Book Description

Interest rate swaps--used globally by both corporate finance departments and investment firms to control interest payments, manage debt, and enhance investment portfolios--constitute a growing 1.9 trillion market. Now, financial personnel, swap traders, corporate treasurers, and professional cash managers can turn to this clear, authoritative guide to master all the methodologies used in the international swap market. Written for anyone whose work is touched by swap market activity, the guide uses diagramming techniques to first explain what swaps are, and how and why they are traded. It then addresses more sophisticated financial transactions, such as rate setting, analysis of swap desks, market-to-market, speculating, and financial statements. Readers will find detailed coverage of more than two dozen derivative products, including spreadlocks, swaptions, caps, and flows, and learn how swap trading works in foreign currencies and interest rates. Critical light is also shed on questions regulators are currently raising about the security and future of the swaps markets.

4 out of 5 stars Me thinks some reviewers protest too much.......2004-07-11

This book has been damned for being too simplistic, therefore consign it to the trash cart, or so we are expected to do. But given the relative novelty of these financial products simplicity in the best sense of word could be seen as a virtue in any work dealing with this topic. So, why the evident annoyance from some. Could it be that this work dissolves some of the mystery involved, and threatens some closed shop in these markets ?

1 out of 5 stars Outdated and Shallow.......1999-09-02

The book easily shows its age in its focus on standards and issues which have long ago fallen by the wayside in this dynamic market. Far worse is that the book is preciously short on quantitative and analytic methods, and long on third-grade-teacher types of admonishments. I read the whole book becasue I paid for it, there are better, more up-to-date volumes out there. Could possibly be re-named "Swaps for English Majors", although, English majors as a group might correctly be upset at this association.

1 out of 5 stars This book really is not about teaching someone to trade.......2007-09-18

I was looking for a basic book teaching the concepts and trading practices and fundamentals. This book has a lot to say about none of the topics needed to help someone become a trader. If you are looking to have someone trade your account you might be helped by it. There are a lot better books out there "Getting Started in Currency Trading" is a fine example. This is the best buy for the money when you are done reading it you will be much better informed to move ahead. 2 out of 5 stars The Cover PAge looks pretty!!!.......2007-06-07

Well when i grow up i to be Russell R Wasendorf, whether sr. or jr. I think these two are the greatest salesmen around. I bought a wonderful book which adorns my bookcase and adds colour and life to my room. Whats more is that i found the same book in my brother's home. Thinking he 'borrowed' it I asked him, He replied saying he 'invested' in it and it works well as a sleep aide . Seriously some points for beginners are reasonably covered but most of the book was a waste of time, paper and resources. There were no Fine points covered in the book to memory but if there were it was lost in the dribble.

1 out of 5 stars To the authors: you must be kidding.......2006-02-09

I'll summarize this book for you -- "Foreign Currency Trading is difficult, if you want to learn more, send us some more money and we will enroll you in a class."

Save your money, buy yourself a newspaper instead.

1 out of 5 stars Rarely have encountered a book this useless........2003-06-05

As others have said clearly, this book is a waste of trees, ink and the time of its reader. The "authors" should be ashamed of such blatant hucksterism and poor description of even the most basic aspects of trading. Even if you are a neophyte, look somewhere else.

1 out of 5 stars save your money ..........2003-03-16

... I have no idea what objective these guys had in mind when they sat down to write this book.... This book is just a bunch of information thrown together (probably downloaded from the internet) and they obviously took no time to put any real effort into this book. I was terribly dissappointed with my purchase of this book.....look elsewhere if you are interested in getting started in forex trading.

            Book Description

Do you know how the mandatory rules of the newly-enacted Market Risk Amendment will affect your financial institution? From this point forward, any banking professionals who donOt understand this mandatory regulation could unwittingly run afoul of its increased capital requirements for market risk. The Market Risk Amendment is the first book that examines the 1996 Market Risk Amendment from every angle, creating not just a listing of techniques or tools with which to comply but a comprehensive understanding of how to operate and build your business in this new risk environment. Clearly written, without the reliance on intricate mathematical formulas so prevalent in other books of its kind, The Market Risk Amendment is filled with charts, graphs, and actual cases that clarify its most important points. With the Market Risk Amendment, the influential Basle Committee established standards and practices for risk management worldwide, and greatly increased the risk exposure capital requirements for banks worldwide. In The Market Risk Amendment, Dr. Dimitris N. Chorafas thoroughly explains this mandatory regulation, describes methods for establishing compliance for your institution, relates the parametric and simulation techniques for calculating Value at Risk, and provides easy-to-understand practices for monitoring and controlling your bankOs risk exposure.

3 out of 5 stars Good book for the novice.......2004-05-03

This book gives a great overview of the agricultural commodities markets of the world. It covers how the futures markets work, why they came into existence, and how they can be used to manage risk. The first six chapters are the most useful for the majority of readers; they focus mostly on the corn, soybeans, and wheat futures exchanges in the midwest United States. Several later chapters cover European exchanges and minor world exchanges. Don't expect to become a trader after reading this book, but it's a great place to get started learning about agricultural futures and options.

              Book Description

A step-by-step guide to licensing technology-based intellectual property assets

For many modern, high-technology companies, licensing their technology-based intellectual property assets is the best way to fully exploit them. Firms that are unable to utilize their proprietary technology assets can license them to other companies more capable of doing so. This book serves as an informed and comprehensive guide to developing a technology licensing program and the legal hurdles, operational needs, and strategies involved.

Suitable for companies seeking to implement or redesign a technology licensing program, as well as individual inventors who want to protect and profit from their proprietary technology, Technology Management covers all the bases.
