It arrived a bit late and it was in good condition
Strategic Thinking by Simon Wootton and Terry Horne.......2005-05-19
In Strategic Thinking, Simon Wootton and Terry Horne teach step-by-step the thinking skills required for sound strategic planning. The authors set out questions to ask and teach how to learn to formulate strategies and write clear and concise strategic plans. The steps taught are easy to apply in the real world. The authors used a very practical approach, and wrote in simple language. The book also has a CD ROM with practical examples that can be used as templates to facilitate the formulation of strategies.
The book teaches a nine step process covering the gathering of information, formulating ideas and planning action. The gathering of information involves an analysis of what is changing, carrying out an audit and reflecting on what one knows. In formulating ideas, one is required to predict where the organisation is headed, decide where it should be going and take care of obstacles to achieving organisational objectives. Planning action involves thinking creatively about alternative courses of action, evaluating their feasibility and making decisions on implementation of the plans.
The book enables me to carry out a systematic process of arriving at optimum plans and strategies for my organisation. I am now aware of the full range of issues to be considered in a systematic thinking process by examining a set of relevant questions and answering them objectively before formulating strategies and writing clear and concise strategic plans.
Very good book, plus..........2003-06-23
This is a very good book. In addition, I recommend "Strategic Organizational Change" by Michael Beitler.
A handy, no-frills guide to kick-start your planning!.......2001-03-14
Of so many business planning books, which I hold in high regard, this one is the simplest to read and follow, and yet still packed with useful tools and powerful tips. To some extent, I would consider it to be a no-frills, straight-to-the-point, hands-on kind of planning book.
In a nut shell, it provides a step by step approach, with a total of 9 steps, and involves 3 critical stages: gathering information, formulating ideas, and planning actions.
In fact, it has many thought-provoking Prompt Questions and clearly-defined Checklists to help you execute your thinking and planning work - starting from scanning the environment (to find out what's out there), measuring your organisational health, creating more options, right up to implementing an action plan with a monitoring system, using Gantt Charts. These unique features are intended to stimulate and guide all your thinking processes, with each of the nine steps involving a different thinking process.
As a mater of fact, by the time you have gone through all the Prompt Questions and completed all the Checklists, you would have already thought through analytically, numerically, reflectively, predictively, imaginatively, visually, creatively, critically, empathetically, ethically, pragmatically and politically. Also, they have been structured in such a way that you would have developed strategic conversations skills with your people across all levels of the organisation, in the course of the planning exercise.
From a strategic thinking standpoint, this book really scores high marks from me, in spite of its simplicity. When reading this book, it reminds me of two other good business planning books with practical "hands-on" features: `Breakaway Planning,' by Paul Levesque, whose book I have also reviewed earlier. In comparison, `Breakaway Planning' gives a more detailed treatment. The other is `Putting It All Together: A Guide to Strategic Thinking,' by William Rothschild, whose book also gives a more detailed treatment.
This book also comes with a CD-Rom, which provides a business case example, using the 9-step approach.
My only `adverse' comment about the book - it would have been more complete if the authors have crafted a global flow chart at the end pages, showing all the 9 steps in sequence within the 3 prescribed stages, in concert with all the applicable thinking processes and resulting action possibilities. This would have been a superb feature for more visually-oriented readers, like me.
In summing up, if you do not have much time to read, and want a proven tool to help kick-start your planning, this one is for you.

Forecasting Economic Time Series by Granger & Newbold.......2006-01-24
This is a great book, if you are looking for a graduate level experience -- but beware. There are 2 texts from 1986 with the same ISBN number. The first is a Hardcover book by Granger and is an undergraduate text. The second is a Paperback book by Granger and Newbold and is the real deal for grad students interested in time series analysis. So if you want this book, be sure to order the Paperback by Newbold. Good Luck! I received the Hardback copy twice in error before receiving the great paperback.
Good Book.......2000-09-09
I learned a lot by reading this book. I know well how to use excel now and I did very well in class

Excellent Hoshin "How To" Reference Book.......2006-03-09
Pete Babich has prepared an excellent Handbook on how to implement a Hoshin Plan. It is clear, concise, and to the point.
Companies that are interested in implementing a Hoshin Plan should definitely add this to their library.
He also includes a CD of Hoshin templates. In my opinion, the value is in the cultural transformation from traditional to Hoshin. Sometime the IT systems and software get in the way of the transformation (we spend too much time worrying about the numbers and not enough time aligning the organization).

What a great disappointment¡¡¡ .......2005-06-25
This book really frustrated me. It doesn?t reflects what I truly expected. What am I going to do with this book? Throw it away, burn it or use it as toilet paper. This book is disastrous. Do it again, with exercises, spreadsheets, solved cases, CD, etc. I?m going to rate this book with 1 star. I want my money back.

Technical Analysis Applications In The Global Currency Markets Second Edition.......2005-07-16
Having always been intrigued by the FX market but also having never traded a day in my life I bought this book and his other with the intent of learning the basics. I wanted to get an overall view of wha the FX was and how I could trade in it. I believe it has done what I wanted and helped me to greatly understand the MANY different aspects of trading. I would say that it covers the basic aspects while only slightly delving deeper into some of the more complex issues. I believe one of the greatest things about this book is that it has helped me to figure out which directions I need to pursue as well as which I don't. I have read some other comments on this book and am rather appalled that people actually take the time to make negative and unsubstantiated claims about the author, his knowledge and experience. If you are disattisfied with the book, state your reasons why and perhaps make a constructive recommendation. Otherwise, all you're doing is wasting my time. This book is probably not for someone who is experienced and has a fair command of their trading. For someone who is looking for a clear, concise discourse on the basics this is definitely the book for you.
To be critical is to be constructive........2005-02-05
If this book is very bad, I am glad to learn it from people who consider themselves knowledgeable and who have read it. But should it be possible for such critics to propose another reference which they appreciated the content. It would be much more instructive for readers who are shopping for quality books.
Not any help at all..........2004-02-02
As a Foreign Currency Dealer, I was NOT helped from this book at all! Actually the title is misleading since he does NOT concentrate on FX, he only shows some graph examples using FX crosses instead of stocks... The author just refers to a lot of TA indicators only reviewing their typical Buy and Sell signals that are written in every TA book, and furthermore the sections are very bad structured. Really very very disappointed!!!
Very Very good book.......2003-08-08
This is a very good book. If you want to start trading currency online (like me) you must read this book first.
excellent value!!.......2003-03-21
I haven't completed the book but if I never read another page it's well worth what I payed compared to some prices of other simular books on the market. I don't know what the initial cost was, but those who wrote the unfavorable reviews should have waited to purchase. Maybe they would have been more positive.

Playing with the Big Boys & Girls in Real Estate.......2006-11-09
I loved this book !!! My time is hurry up, too much to do. The chapters with each person was well written, and in the langage I can understand. I was kept interested at all times, and the knowledge I received from this book is very helpful to me
Needs a proofreader.......2005-08-03
The author or publisher should have proofread this book before publishing.
Also, some of the top-performers featured in the book need to familiarize themselves with the National Association of Realtors Code of Ethics. You'd think they would have done that long ago!
In spite of its flaws, the book does provide useful information, and some ideas other Realtors can adopt.

Learn from the "big boys," too!.......2003-09-15
The "big boys" learned long ago how to create networks and gain visibility through "personal publicity," aka "toot your own horn!" Women generally show far too much humility about their talents and skills. If we want people to value our skills, we must first show that we value ourselves -- by making sure our accomplishments are visible to targeted audiences. If we want people to hire us, promote us, buy from us or invest in our companies, they have to know who we are, what we have accomplished and why they should do business with us! Self-promotion isn't bragging. It is a valuable business tool that career women must add to their strategies for success. (from Marion E. Gold, award-winning author of "The Personal Publicity Planner: A Guide to Marketing YOU")

Customer Reviews:
Sadly, the worst poker book ever.......2006-04-19
If, as a stunt, someone set out to write the worst book of poker, they would not do as fine a job of it as have the authors of this truly awful book. Their annoyingly cutesy style is benign compared with the enormous number of serious errors about poker. Among their many factual errors, here are two: According to the authors, Aces are always high in poker (not true -- Aces are high or low. You can only draw three cards, or four with an Ace in 5-card draw (not true -- you can draw all five). The writing is so poor in general that it renders unintelligible even the information they get right. The book is also a major rip off -- really a couple of pages of original writing with the remainder just filler -- like an incomplete list of casinos in Las Vegas and Atlantic City (with no indication of where they spread poker)and a badly explained list of off beat home poker games. The one redeeming feature in this horrid text is the interview with Wendeen Eolis -- a truly interesting, thoughtful, engaging and highly skilled and experienced poker player. Too bad few if any readers will make it that far -- having thrown the book out after reading the first few pages.
Can I make this a negative star?.......2005-01-12
This book is horrifyingly cute and offensively patronizing. The assumption is that the women reading it are stupid to the point of immobility. A paraphrase as an example: In defining and naming the four suits, clubs are "sometimes known as puppy paw-prints."
We had a huge laugh over this book at our monthly ladies' poker night, but it wasn't a good laugh. It was derisive laughter. We looked and looked for some indication that the book was meant to be funny, but couldn't find it.
The (female!) authors should be ashamed. Unless you're itching to get smacked, do not buy this book for the woman in your life who wants to learn poker.
Finally, all the secrets of Poker revealed!.......2003-01-21
This is an informative, smartly written book that is filled with details and tips on various games of poker. I enjoyed the wit and humor of the prose as well all the games packed into this book. The writers have a real flair and I learned alot from this book. Sometimes the writing reminded me of Sex in the City, very urbane and witty. Anyone (male or fremale) who is clueless about poker could benefit from reading this book. They even show you how to better your luck if you get stuck with a DUD hand.
All the women at my Saturday night game had better look out! Momma has an ace up her sleeve and I got it from this book!
