    Book Description

The book provides an extensive discussion of asymptotic theory of M-estimators in the context of dynamic nonlinear models. The class of M-estimators contains least mean distance estimators (including maximum likelihood estimators) and generalized method of moments estimators. In addition to establishing the asymptotic properties of such estimators, the book provides a detailed discussion of the statistical and probabilistic tools necessary for such an analysis. The book also gives a careful treatment of estimators of asymptotic variance covariance matrices for dependent processes.

      Book Description

In the past few decades, methods of linear algebra have become central to economic analysis, replacing older tools such as the calculus. David Gale has provided the first complete and lucid treatment of important topics in mathematical economics which can be analyzed by linear models. This self-contained work requires few mathematical prerequisites and provides all necessary groundwork in the first few chapters. After introducing basic geometric concepts of vectors and vector spaces, Gale proceeds to give the main theorems on linear inequalities—theorems underpinning the theory of games, linear programming, and the Neumann model of growth. He then explores such subjects as linear programming; the theory of two-person games; static and dynamic theories of linear exchange models, including problems of equilibrium prices and dynamic stability; and methods of play, optimal strategies, and solutions of matrix games. This book should prove an invaluable reference source and text for mathematicians, engineers, economists, and those in many related areas.

          Book Description

Many optimization questions arise in economics and finance; an important example of this is the society's choice of the optimum state of the economy (the social choice problem). Optimization in Economics and Finance extends and improves the usual optimization techniques, in a form that may be adopted for modeling social choice problems. Problems discussed include: when is an optimum reached; when is it unique; relaxation of the conventional convex (or concave) assumptions on an economic model; associated mathematical concepts such as invex and quasimax; multiobjective optimal control models; and related computational methods and programs. These techniques are applied to economic growth models (including small stochastic perturbations), finance and financial investment models (and the interaction between financial and production variables), modeling sustainability over long time horizons, boundary (transversality) conditions, and models with several conflicting objectives. Although the applications are general and illustrative, the models in this book provide examples of possible models for a society's social choice for an allocation that maximizes welfare and utilization of resources. As well as using existing computer programs for optimization of models, a new computer program, named SCOM, is presented in this book for computing social choice models by optimal control.

            Book Description

Dynamic Programming in Economics is an outgrowth of a course intended for students in the first year PhD program and for researchers in Macroeconomics Dynamics. It can be used by students and researchers in Mathematics as well as in Economics. The purpose of Dynamic Programming in Economics is twofold: (a) to provide a rigorous, but not too complicated, treatment of optimal growth models in infinite discrete time horizon, (b) to train the reader to the use of optimal growth models and hence to help him to go further in his research. We are convinced that there is a place for a book which stays somewhere between the "minimum tool kit" and specialized monographs leading to the frontiers of research on optimal growth.

              Book Description

Peter Kall and János Mayer are distinguished scholars and professors of Operations Research and their research interest is particularly devoted to the area of stochastic optimization. Stochastic Linear Programming: Models, Theory, and Computation is a definitive presentation and discussion of the theoretical properties of the models, the conceptual algorithmic approaches, and the computational issues relating to the implementation of these methods to solve problems that are stochastic in nature. The application area of stochastic programming includes portfolio analysis, financial optimization, energy problems, random yields in manufacturing, risk analysis, etc. In this book, models in financial optimization and risk analysis are discussed as examples, including solution methods and their implementation.

Stochastic programming is a fast developing area of optimization and mathematical programming. Numerous papers and conference volumes, and several monographs have been published in the area; however, the Kall and Mayer book will be particularly useful in presenting solution methods including their solid theoretical basis and their computational issues, based in many cases on implementations by the authors. The book is also suitable for advanced courses in stochastic optimization.

                Book Description

Business cycle theory has been one of the fastest growing fields in modern nonlinear economic dynamics. The book is centered around models of multiplier-accelerator type, emerging from Samuelson's seminal work, later developed into nonlinear formats by HIcks and Goodwin. These models left open ends, as the tools then available did not permit more systematic analysis. The present situation is different, due to the emergence of new methods also focusing global analysis. The focus on classical, causal or recursive models implies a deviation from current main stream business cycle theory, based on "rational expectations", which in view of the possibility of mathematical chaos becomes untenable. This book is a rejoinder to Puu and Sushko, Oligopoly Dynamics - Models and Tools, (Springer 2002).

                    Book Description

This volume presents some of the most important mathematical tools for studying economic models. It contains basic topics concerning linear differential equations and linear discrete-time systems; a sketch of the general theory of nonlinear systems and the stability of equilibria; an introduction to numerical methods for differential equations, and some applications to the solution of nonlinear equations and static optimization. The second part of the book discusses stabilization problems, including optimal stabilization, linear-quadratic optimization and other problems of dynamic optimization, including a proof of the Maximum Principle for general optimal control problems. All these mathematical subjects are illustrated with detailed discussions of economic models. Audience: This text is recommended as auxiliary material for undergraduate and graduate level MBA students, while at the same time it can also be used as a reference by specialists.

                      Book Description

DLP denotes a dynamic-linear modeling and optimization approach to computational decision support for resource planning problems that arise, typically, within the natural resource sciences and the disciplines of operations research and operational engineering. It integrates techniques of dynamic programming (DP) and linear programming (LP) and can be realized in an immediate, practical and usable way. Simultaneously DLP connotes a broad and very general modeling/ algorithmic concept that has numerous areas of application and possibilities for extension. Two motivating examples provide a linking thread through the main chapters, and an appendix provides a demonstration program, executable on a PC, for hands-on experience with the DLP approach.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to daily laws in a clear language!.......2004-10-12

This book provide you the common sense and the fundamental knowledge in the legal arena that relates to all aspects of our daily life. The language is clear, direct, easy understanding, and well written. I have read several fundamental law books, some of them is difficult to understand due to the "lawyer English"; for example, I encountered one paragrah that has only one sentence and has around 100 words; and most of those sentences I found in those books are around 50-60 wrods in complex structures.

This book is replete of the basic legal knowledge for a common citizen how to handle their daily affairs with confident.

This book is also good for the would-be first year law students gaining the fundamental knowledge before starting the career in law schools.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Introductory Book for Everday Law........1998-07-29

This book by Messrs. Belli and Wilkinson uncovers mystery concerning the law. This reference book give very clear and readable legal advice which is free of the legal jargon. I found information on the topics of wills, estate planning, and real estate very useful and worth the price of the book. A must for your personal library.
