Book Description
While women make up 52.1 percent of the U.S. population, they control two-thirds of the nation's disposable income. In Pocketbook Power noted marketing expert and bestselling author Bernice Kanner describes how female spending power has radically transformed the face of advertising and marketing over the past several decades. Combining compelling demographic and statistical information with eye-opening and entertaining "tales from the trenches," she explores how the ad world has responded to a female-dominated marketplace. Industry sector by industry sector, Kanner describes successful approaches that have been used to reach women consumers of apparel, financial services, health care, technology, and more.
- An entertaining and informative look at how today's women-dominated marketplace is shaking up the status quo on Madison Avenue
- Anatomizes some of the most successful (and unsuccessful) women-oriented campaigns of all times

Highly Recommended!.......2004-09-17
Women not only rule the roost, they control its purse strings. In an economy 75% driven by individual consumer spending, women make decisions that affect 88% of all purchases and control almost half of all the households with assets of more than $500,000. The results of marketing research data show, in staggering and unequivocal terms, that women are the dominant demographic and financial engine behind the U.S. economy. The first half of author Bernice Kanner's book focuses on women's impact on various industries. The book's second half notes failed campaigns and explains what kind of marketing appeals to women. Despite its overwhelming reliance on marketing data, this book suffers from mixing the differences and similarities between the genders. At times the distinctions are clear, but often the differences get blurred. This extremely informative book would have benefited from tighter editing to make it less jumbled. Still, we think marketing and advertising executives can use this book to avoid chauvinist marketing pitfalls, adjust to changing demographics and more effectively draw female consumers to their clients' products.

This authoritative annual on Grand Prix racing is in its 47th year of publication. The 1997-98 volume includes a foreword by the 1997 title winner Jacques Villeneuve, the first driver to win the championship after just two full seasons of Grand Prix racing. As usual, this large, attractive volume is packed with color photos, statistics, bios, commentary from the experts, and analyses of the year's races.
Book Description
At the end of each season, Grand Prix enthusiasts and collectors eagerly anticipate the release of the world's leading Formula 1 yearbook. The 49th installment will be no exception, with complete coverage of every championship round. Dramatic color images from the sport's leading photographers accompany detailed race reports, in-depth analyses, and complete statistics. In addition, there's the much-awaited top-ten driver rankings, and a team-by-team guide and topical features that provide insight to the various aspects of the 1999 season. Additional color coverage of the American racing scene, Le Mans, Formula 3, Formula 3000 and Super Tourers make this an indispensable reference.

THE BEST FORMULA 1 DICTIONARY FOR THE 2005 SEASON!.......2007-02-01
i remember buying the 2005 official book and this autocourse 2005, i was dissapointed with the official book because they dont have pictures of the most important events from the races, like kimi raikkonen's last lap pass on fisichella at suzuka. the offical guide didnt even have a picture of it! while this autocourse book, had a two page picture of raikkonen just inches away from fisichella's renault about to take the lead. it blew my mind. if youre a rabid formula 1 fan that just loves a lot of photographs, this is for you. ive been collecting formula 1 articles and i must say this is definitely what i wait for every year. theres so much more on offer with autocourse!
Great F1 Book........2006-10-02
Great pictures and commentary. Great coffee table book. Tons of stats and info. on F1 teams and drivers. I bought 2000-2001 through 2004-2005. I've enjoyed these books and look forward to buying future and some older issues.
Typical of recent examples and still a "must have"...........2006-03-29
The 2005-6 Autocourse continues in the same vein as in recent years with superb photography complimenting good, if minimal, race reviews. Jared M's review (#1 above) is misleading I think. The race coverage is typically woeful with a 'once over lightly' feel and pretty short on detail. The qualifying coverage is dreadful, a few paragraphs at most and it only deals with just a few of the 20 cars leaving you wondering just what happened to the rest of the field in practice and qualifying. This trend started in the last ten years and if you compare the current example with an Autocourse of say 1996 or 1991 or earlier, you'll be shocked at the decline. What was once a comprehensive review that covered the entire event and detailed the whole field, even back to the non-qualifiers, has become a thumbnail sketch with the photo quotient amped up in an apparent attempt to dazzle you into not noticing the editorial drop-off. It's a shame really, but since other F1 reviews can't hold a candle to Autocourse, there's no motivation for Autocourse to improve. So despite this year's Autocourse comparing badly to it's predecessors, it is the definitive article and the useful reviews of other race series from around the world are still very good. Three and a half stars would be a more accurate rating.
An improvement on previous years.......2006-02-12
During 2004, there was considerable upheaval at Hazelton, the publishers of Autocourse since at least 1979 (which is far back as my collection of Autocourse annuals goes) which, as I understand it, meant the 2004 edition very nearly didn't get published. As it transpired, the 2004 annual did make it to the shelves, and Crash Media Group (CMG) took over publishing duties from Hazelton for 2005 and beyond. At the time of the takeover, CMG, who were aware that they were picking up probably the longest running of all the motorsport annuals, and promised the loyal readership of Autocourse (and its sister publications Rallycourse and Motocourse) that the standards of Autocourse would return to what it had been. Autocourse over the last 10 years or so (some readers would say 15 or 20) has slipped somewhat in its attempts to be more commercial, with a trend towards increasing the pictorial content with fluff tabloidy photographs and layouts and less focus on editorial content.
This pledge of CMG to its readeship is immediately obvious at a glance at the dustjacket of the 2005 Annual. Gone is the horrible montage of photographs making up the 2004 cover, and back is the traditional single large photograph of the winning Driver's Champion adorning the dust jacket, in this case Fernando Alonso in his Renault R25. What is also apparent is the increased content, which is illustrated by the page count of the 2005 annual, which stands at 336 pages, compared to the 248 pages of the 2004 edition. The increase is in both F1 content, and the other forms of motorsport traditionally reviewed in the annual.
Gordon Kirby does his usual roundup of the US motorsport scene, and Simon Arron sums up the GP2 season, which replaced the old F3000 series. There is a layout discussing the other new motorsport series attracting a lot attention at the moment, A1GP. Sportscars, GT, Touring cars, and the main F3 series also gets a look in. David Hayhoe compiles the section of the annual devoted to the major results - note the bulk of the A1GP season hadn't been run at time of publication, so only results the first few race meetings of this series are included.
In terms of F1 content, the traditional Editor's (which is still Alan Henry) Top 10 is still present, ranking the best drivers of the year. One change I would like to see in this area is a return to the attractive black & white photography that was introduced in 1994 for a number of years to illustrate the top 10 drivers. Another point to note in relation to the photography is that the photographs seem much more driver/car orientated than in the past (less "tabloidy"), and the layouts are less cluttered. The team by team reviews for some teams seem a little lengthier than in the past, although it is difficult to tell with the font sizes. The race by race reports are noticeably lengthier than in the past. The USGP report, perhaps fittingly so, covering the fiasco of the 2005 race is the shortest report, but isn't afraid to be critical of pretty much all parties who couldn't reach a compromise to ensure a full field for the race.
So all in all, while much is the same as in previous years, this year's Autocourse is an improvement, with increased content to keep those who read every word happy, great photographs for the visualists, and the return to the single shot of the Driver's Champion for the dustjacket for the traditionalists. Hopefully CMG will continue and build on the progress they have made with this year's annual over past editions of Autocourse.
autocourse 2001.......2005-12-03
This book is a must have for all f1 fans. The photographs are great, and the journalism is faultless. I 've recently started to collect autocourse annuals, and the quality of each of them is excellent. My advice is to by this book, and by the Autocourse 2005 book as well.

Wonderful recipes with great pictures to go along with it!.......1999-05-09
I own the "Taste of Home Annual Recipes" for 1997, 1998, and 1999, and they are fantastic cookbooks! The recipes are easy to make and great tasting, and the pictures are just incredible! The recipes come from everyday people like ourselves, not famous chefs! Each of the recipes in this cookbook really do give you a "Taste of Home"!

An outstanding cookbook.......2006-09-05
I inherited this book a couple years ago, along with about 100 other cookbooks that I added to my already enormous cookbook collection. I picked it up, thinking that I'd donate it to a charity, when I decided to skim it. In a word: outstanding.
The 1999 Annual, along with all the other Food and Wine Annuals, is repleat with creative recipes and wonderful food photography. It includes wine pairings. Every recipe I have tried has been a hit, particularly the Goat Cheese Souffle. If you are a novice, but particularly if you are an experienced cook looking for inspiration, get this book. Actually, you can't go wrong getting any of these Annuals - I've since bought them all from 2000-2006!
My favorite cookbooks.......2001-10-25
I have this edition of the Food & Wine annual as well as the previous two editions, and they are typically the first cookbooks I turn to when I'm in need of a recipe. The Food & Wine annuals are nice because the recipes always taste great, are well written, and are much easier to locate than sorting through magazine clippings. In addition, the annual incorporates many of the tips included in the magazine such as how to make a successful merengue, etc.
Despite the breadth of well-loved recipe books on my shelf, Food & Wine is especially useful because it presents a wide range of dishes from classics to regional cuisine, desserts to barbecues and appetizers. The only reason I don't have the most recent editions is because my dad stopped purchasing the annuals, and I didn't know where to find them until today! You can be sure I'll be picking up both the 2000 and 2001 editions of this great compilation.
this is THE ultimate cookbook, great recipes, great food.......1999-03-27
Actually, I can't believe you don't have this book yet. The hotel that I work for already has a copy and I have been "chomping at the bit" for my own personal copy. I have secretly made copies of some of my favorite recipes, and let me tell you, they have turned out FABULOUS. When are you going to get this book?

Sometimes the old ways are the best. Sure, the Internet is a bottomless well of information, but anyone who's spent a frustrating hour or two trying to find a specific fact in that well recognizes the value of a well-organized reference book. The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2000 will tell you what you need to know in a minute or less, thanks to the comprehensive contents list and thumb index. Business, astronomy, science, politics, geography, and sports are all thoroughly covered, as well as highlights from 1999 and a special millennium section including top 10 lists from the past 1,000 years. A thought-provoking lead essay from Robert Reich on the struggle between technology and tribalism sets the stage for the rest of the book. Maps and demographic information give insight into the changing world, lists of organizations and personalities help us navigate the news, and the pages of data on everything from classic films to silver production are good for term papers and bar bets. Browse through the book and you're sure to find yourself stopping, reading, and learning. What do those TV ratings boxes mean? What is the order of succession to the presidency? How many people have AIDS worldwide? It's all here, for a lot less money than one month's Internet service, in The World Almanac and Book of Facts 2000. --Rob Lightner

The first place for all fact finding missions.......2000-10-02
Don't even think of getting through a year without the World Almanac. It's a staple of any complete reference book shelf and it's still a lot of faster than logging into a website!
All you ever wanted to know !.......2000-09-01
This book is excellent to people who are on a quest for information, or just love learning. This book will answer almost any question you might have: from what is the biggest US money bill in ciculation to what is the 13 ammendment to Constitution. If your are non-us, as I am, this book is also a must. Almost half of it is dedicated to world trends and history, from the complet list of roman empror, french kings and popes to a brief summary of every contry in the world. This book is a must-buy for every knowledge hungry people!
A Best Seller And Perfect Gift.......2000-08-24
Whether you're hoping to get on the TV show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", a grade school- high school -or College student,a lover of trivia, or someone who loves to read about a large variety of topics, the World Almanac is hard to beat. It has gobs and gobs of information in its 1024 pages, and has even made it to #1 on the New York Times Best Seller list. Here is just a taste of the delectable topics covered in this entertaining and informative publication: Economic Agricultural Employment and Crime statistics, Baseball, Basketball, Hockey, Golf, Tennis, Boxing, World history, U.S. history, Science & Technology, States of the Union with information and history of each state, Countries of the World with information about each one along with a brief outline of their histories, Travel, Health, and Consumer information, and much much more. This book has so much neat stuff in it it's well worth the price. It lists the all-time television programs from 1961 to Feb 1, 1999, gives the estimated population's of the American Colonies from 1630-1780, gives the complete words to "The Star Spangled Banner", the words to the Presidential Oath Of Office, lists past Nobel Prize winners, has a business directory of some of the United States major corporations including phone numbers web addresses and mailing addresses, and has bunches and bunches more information contained inside. It is one of my all-time favorite books. If you want to read a book that you can use for years to come, this is one to own, and if you're a collector, be sure to pick up the next edition as well.
A Treasure Trove of Knowledge.......2000-07-26
If there is any fact that you want to look up, this book has it right here at your fingertips. It covers a wide variety of interests from sports to politics, from entertainment to demographic information and statistics. There is a full-color section in the middle with maps and flags. It is well organized with a thorough index, and it is easy to find the information you are looking for. This would be a good book for adults as well as children. This is a great reference book that we buy each year in our family(it is updated on a yearly basis). I recommend it to all!
A lot of valuable information.. but!.......2000-07-15
The 1024 pages World Almanac 2000 is real bonus. It contains a lot of valuable information.
My only criticism is that the Almanac has a real bias towards "American information".
As it is a "World Almanac", the editors should understand that non-American readers would like to see that it has a broader base. I'm sure the editors will rectify this shortfall in the next edition!
