Value-based Management: Context and Application
Manufacturer: Wiley ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0471899860 |
Book Description
Context and Application Value-Based Management Edited by Glen Arnold and Matt Davies Over the past ten years hundreds of leading companies worldwide have adopted the principles of value-based management (VBM), an approach to corporate strategy and business organisation in which the primary objective is always shareholder wealth maximisation. As VBM has become more widespread the idea of shareholder value has become integral to business. Consultancies have prospered by selling prescriptions for developing a value-oriented firm and managers thought to be excellent in generating shareholder value are held in high esteem and command huge salaries. This book draws on empirical evidence to demonstrate the success of VBM ideas as well as highlighting many of the hidden questions, doubts and difficulties. It examines the validity of some of the underlying assumptions of VBM and tackles many of the key technical issues. This book provides a timely assessment of the theory and practice of VBM as it grows to maturity.

Ethics and Accountability in a Context of Governance and New Public Management: EGPA Yearbook (International Institute of Administrative Sciences Monographs, ... of Administrative Sciences Monographs)
Manufacturer: IOS Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 9051994192 |
Book Description
Ethics and accountability have become important themes for modern government, as in most of the countries there is a severe crisis of legitimacy. Increasingly there is a feeling that performance management alone will not solve this crisis. Citizens also expect from politicians and public servants ethical responsible conduct. As to the ethics, however, there is a problem. Governance and new public management have raised new problems which cannot be solved by referring to the traditional bureaucratic ethics. Devolution and decentralisation processes have enhanced the responsibility of public servants. The increase of transparency and openness and the service orientation of public organisations have challenged the traditional values of discretion and equality before the rule. The growing interaction between the public and the private sector have raised the question of integrity. In light of these developments, it is important to update the ethical system, or reversibly, the traditional values of the public service can question some actual evolutions in government.

Sex and Gender Issues: A Handbook of Tests and Measures
Carole A. Beere Manufacturer: Greenwood Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0313274622 |
Book Description
This handbook is a companion volume to Beere's Gender Roles: A Handbook of Tests and Measures, which describes 211 measures pertaining to gender roles and attitudes toward gender-related issues. Sex and Gender Issues extends the Gender Roles' coverage, describing 197 scales usable in research and applied settings. The measures relate to the following topics: heterosocial relations, sexuality, contraception and abortion, pregnancy and childbirth, somatic issues, homosexuality, rape and sexual coercion, family violence, body image and appearance, eating disorders, and other scales. In preparing these handbooks, Beere thoroughly searched the literature in psychology, sociology, education, and related disciplines and identified 1,450 measures. For this handbook, she selected 197 measures that are relevant, have evidence of reliability or validity, and were used in more than one published article or ERIC document. If a scale did not satisfy these criteria, but its development is the focus of an article or ERIC document, it is included. Unusual scales and those pertaining to a topic that would otherwise receive inadequate coverage are included as well. The scale descriptions follow a standard format that includes information such as title, author or authors listed in the earliest publication mentioning the scale, earliest date that the scale was mentioned in a publication, variable measured, type of instrument, description, sample items, previous subjects and appropriate subjects, information regarding reliability and validity, and a listing of published studies that used the measure. Sex and Gender Issues is the most up-to-date compendium of these tests and measures and will be welcomed by social science researchers, students, and teachers. It is a necessary addition to university libraries, research centers, and to the private collection of researchers in relevant areas.
