- Provides new EOC materials that require readers to analyze the financial statements of real companies using a new database available on the Pratt BCS.

Financial Accounting Study Guide.......2007-10-05
Arrived in excellent, brand new condition. Came in a timely fashion. Great study guide with review and practice questions.
Not a good book from a student point of view, but serves the purpose.......2005-10-13
I bought this book because it is required for my Financial Accounting course. The book serves its purpose, which is to introduce the world of financial accounting to student like me who has no business background. However, the author has injected a lot of personal opinions into the text, which some are really biased. For example, the author emphasize on the mis-trust between management and investor. There is, to some extent especially after the scandals of Enron and WorldCom, but author has exaggerated it. Also, my professor, a former CFO, pointed out some formulas and pratices on the book have no value in the real world. The plus side is that the text in the book is not hard to understand.
Speedy Delivery.......2005-09-03
I got the book three day after I ordered.
Incredible fast .....
Thanks for doing me a favor.
Not even an answer key to the exercises.......2003-03-08
The book is easy to understand, but there should be a solutions manual, or at least an answer key to the exercises. It has been very difficult for me to "learn the mechanics" and "apply the concepts" at the end of each chapter. The pace of the course allows the teacher to solve only 2 or 3 exercises in class, and the book certainly does not make selfstudy easy. Needless to say, that you can't learn financial accounting just by reading. To makes things even worse, a study guide, which does not refer to the same exercises in the book, is out of print.
Confusing.......2001-04-13
The text is very confusing.

Book Description
Context and Application Value-Based Management Edited by Glen Arnold and Matt Davies Over the past ten years hundreds of leading companies worldwide have adopted the principles of value-based management (VBM), an approach to corporate strategy and business organisation in which the primary objective is always shareholder wealth maximisation. As VBM has become more widespread the idea of shareholder value has become integral to business. Consultancies have prospered by selling prescriptions for developing a value-oriented firm and managers thought to be excellent in generating shareholder value are held in high esteem and command huge salaries. This book draws on empirical evidence to demonstrate the success of VBM ideas as well as highlighting many of the hidden questions, doubts and difficulties. It examines the validity of some of the underlying assumptions of VBM and tackles many of the key technical issues. This book provides a timely assessment of the theory and practice of VBM as it grows to maturity.

Good Book but no answers to Problems.......2004-01-07
This is a well laid out book, with very good examples and problems. My reason for giving it a 3 star rating is the absence of answers to numerical problems. I had purchased this book as a self help improvement process in the Capital Budgeting process. But if there are no answers to the problems, than a person does not know how effective was the learning.
The book is organized well, and has good examples and explainations.

Book Description
Accounting in a Business Context covers all the key areas of financial and management accounting, but is written specifically for non-accounting students. It focuses on how managers will actually use information, rather than how accountants prepare it. This way it avoids burdening the general business student with unnecessary technical skills or obscuring the core management issues with accounting jargon. This fully updated and revised edition takes account of all the latest ASB developments, and includes new material on ratio analysis and activity based costing.
Customer Reviews:
Attractively presented but incomplete text.......1997-04-23
'Accounting in a Business Context' is an attractively presented text for non-accountants which draws on interesting examples from business life to illustrate various points. However, from the beginner's point of view, it lacks the simple summaries and overviews that could make it a useful reference work and its index is sadly lacking fundamental concepts such as Turnover, Output, Capital, Standard Costs, Shadow Prices, etc. (Interestingly, it does include Tottenham Hotspur - one of the authors' favourite teams I understand!)

Book Description
Ethics and accountability have become important themes for modern government, as in most of the countries there is a severe crisis of legitimacy. Increasingly there is a feeling that performance management alone will not solve this crisis. Citizens also expect from politicians and public servants ethical responsible conduct. As to the ethics, however, there is a problem. Governance and new public management have raised new problems which cannot be solved by referring to the traditional bureaucratic ethics. Devolution and decentralisation processes have enhanced the responsibility of public servants. The increase of transparency and openness and the service orientation of public organisations have challenged the traditional values of discretion and equality before the rule. The growing interaction between the public and the private sector have raised the question of integrity. In light of these developments, it is important to update the ethical system, or reversibly, the traditional values of the public service can question some actual evolutions in government.

Book Description
The main aim with this book is to provide English speaking readers with a comprehensive overview of the German corporate governance model. The authors introduce the reader to the unique features of the German Business and Enterprise Law. The book deals with the most important company organs, namely the General Meeting, the Management Board and the Supervisory Board. The unique interplay among these organs are also covered and the reader is introduced to the particular dynamics of the German two-tier board structure. Further the authors deal with the dominant role of the "German banks" and new players in the German financial markets, focussing particularly on voting rights of these institutions at companies' general meetings and appointing members to companies' supervisory boards. The final chapter gives an overview of corporate governance in the European Union, the OECD Principles of Corporate Governance and corporate governance in the US, the UK and Australia.

Book Description
This handbook is a companion volume to Beere's Gender Roles: A Handbook of Tests and Measures, which describes 211 measures pertaining to gender roles and attitudes toward gender-related issues. Sex and Gender Issues extends the Gender Roles' coverage, describing 197 scales usable in research and applied settings. The measures relate to the following topics: heterosocial relations, sexuality, contraception and abortion, pregnancy and childbirth, somatic issues, homosexuality, rape and sexual coercion, family violence, body image and appearance, eating disorders, and other scales. In preparing these handbooks, Beere thoroughly searched the literature in psychology, sociology, education, and related disciplines and identified 1,450 measures. For this handbook, she selected 197 measures that are relevant, have evidence of reliability or validity, and were used in more than one published article or ERIC document. If a scale did not satisfy these criteria, but its development is the focus of an article or ERIC document, it is included. Unusual scales and those pertaining to a topic that would otherwise receive inadequate coverage are included as well. The scale descriptions follow a standard format that includes information such as title, author or authors listed in the earliest publication mentioning the scale, earliest date that the scale was mentioned in a publication, variable measured, type of instrument, description, sample items, previous subjects and appropriate subjects, information regarding reliability and validity, and a listing of published studies that used the measure. Sex and Gender Issues is the most up-to-date compendium of these tests and measures and will be welcomed by social science researchers, students, and teachers. It is a necessary addition to university libraries, research centers, and to the private collection of researchers in relevant areas.

Book Description
"Women's Rights at Work" is a comprehensive guide that begins with the point when a woman finds work right through to the end when she finishes a job through dismissal or resignation. Starting from the premise that, while rights at work affect all workers, there are many issues that affect women workers in very specific ways. Topics covered include unfair dismissal, discrimination, harassment, maternity rights, and health and safety in the workplace. A British attorney specializing in women's employment rights, Alison Clark demystifies the subject and provides up-to-date reference guide to employment law for the non-specialist. Free from legalistic jargon, this book explains any unfamiliar terms in detail in order to make the law accessible to all women who want to assert their rights in the workplace.
