Book Description
The making and sharing of money is a loaded issue for every couple. A Citibank survey found financial issues to be the primary reason for divorce, but in this practical guide, clinical psychologist Jonathan Rich shows partners how to avoid finance-based conflicts and make negotiating money matters both pleasurable and productive. Section One starts with a self-assessment quiz to help readers determine their own "money personality" from categories such as "gambler," "banker," "homesteader," "pioneer," "spartan," or "monarch." Working from this foundation, the couple can learn to navigate differences in money-management styles and effectively negotiate financial matters. Section Two focuses on strategies for growing money. Quizzes and exercises reinforce these concepts and make learning them fun. A final section helps readers decide when to seek professional financial help. 20 worksheets are included.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent book with practical, step-by-step advice for real couples!.......2007-01-11
This great workbook is one of my top picks for my clients - couples working on money issues. Jonathan's useful and validated assessment creates much fodder for in-depth discussions on differences around money.
Couples can finally get off the blame wagon and start to really understand why they each operate the way they do around money. My husband and I enjoyed the fresh perspectives for our own marriage too! ;)
Jonathan measures three different "Money Personality" dimensions: Risk-taking, Lifestyle and Dependence. He goes on to dispense useful suggestions for real-life applications - managing spending and debt, work, investments, savings, insurance and financial planning.
The Couple's Guide to Love & Money is among my favorite money book collection. Other titles include: Money Harmony by Olivia Mellan, The Secret Meaning of Money by Cloe Madanes, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, Smart and Simple Financial Strategies for Busy People by Jane Bryant Quinn.

Amazing strategies for prosperity and intimacy.......2003-10-24
Too many self-help books offer vague "positive
thinking" advice. Not so with this one. Virtually
every type of financial conflict is addressed in these
pages, and the reader is given fun, interesting, and
effective ways to specifically address problems, gain
insight, and to start a mutual creative path toward
prosperity. The book is filled with real-life stories
of couples with conflicts over money - it's impossible
to go through it without finding situations that you
can perfectly identify with. One section provides a
method for weighing the value of your time - this
section allowed me to make a compelling case to my
husband that hiring occasional household help would
actually help rather than hurt our bottom line! Even
though my marriage is strong, I could still find many
tips which were powerful and effective for moving us
forward financially.
As a psychologist, I frequently see clients facing
the types of problems discussed in this book. I'm
delighted that this volume exists as a resource for
them, one that I'm glad to refer them to. This book
is strongly recommended for any couple, or for any
professional who counsels or advises couples.
Financial Advice with a Heart.......2003-03-25
This book provides useful, unique perspectives about dealing with money as a couple. It is written in a personable style and, unlike a lot of personal finance books, it's fun to read. The book exactly pinpointed my own and my husband's financial styles, and then gave insightful and practical suggestions about how to work together effectively without arguing. I loved the "Shared Dreams" chapter. The author explains that you can accomplish far greater things by working together as a couple than by working individually or at odds with each other. This is a great book, not just for couples that are having money problems or money-related arguments, but also for couples that want to reach higher financial ground. After going through the book with my husband, I feel we understand each other much better, and have a clearer vision of our future together. I LOVED this book. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for any couple.
Book Description
Powerful, yet fun to read, this book shows how you can win at the game of love and money. It's filled with proven principles of money management and provides you with practical step-by-step tools to uncover the deeper, often hidden meanings of money and conquer the problems it raises in your relationship. And, it's from a male and female perspective!

The financial education few of us ever received.......1997-04-22
This is a textbook for one of those "boring"
junior college courses on planning your life and marriage. Funny thing is, it's also a fantastic wealth of advice and homey insights most of us desperately need. Centers on finances in marriage, always a problem area, but plenty of other good stuff. I think with the right literary agent and a lean rewrite, this would be a bestseller. Most Americans should take Prof. Poduska's course.

Customer Reviews:
Alright.......1999-11-21
I used this book at Cornell's school of Industrial and Labor Relations in an OB course. It was ok, but I have seen better. The examples are mostly revelant, but sometimes it strays from the covered material. A good book to use to review for the final exam, but if your teacher draws tests from their own lectures, make sure you utilize the index in the back!
Poor theory, good applications.......1999-06-11
This text was used at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for an honors OB course. It served the class well by providing relevant and often humorous applications of theory. However, the descriptions of the actual theories themselves were weak and vague often referring to other concepts not yet learned.

Workplace success..........2007-03-29
This book has all sorts of information that will help any group of people working together get along better because of a greater understanding of different kinds of people.
not for MBA students.......2006-03-16
This book was required for an MBA class. It is more suited for undergraduates. It does not encourage deeper thinking or analysis appropriate for the graduate level.
The book is strong in theoretical understanding but weak in management applications. It is nice to be able to list the names of motivation theories, for example, but the authors seem uanble to provide criteria one might want to consider for policy decisions. I wonder if this book is by and for academics who have no real life work experience but need to publish or perish.
End of chapter supplementary articles are only from the New York Times. Although the book's introductory material lets us know how wonderful this is, a greater variety of source material would enhance the overall effectiveness. After all, the book does speak of diversity.
To its credit, the book is reasonably readable and does not overwhelm us with too much esoteric academic speak.
Great book. Must have it, if you are studying Org. Behavior.......2005-03-14
A colorful introductory textbook on organizational behavior that integrates concepts, theories, and research findings to examine individuals in organizations, groups and organizational processes, and inter-group relations and the organizational context. Case studies illuminate concepts and provide managerial implications. There is a diversity of heuristic features, some integrated into the text and some at the end of each chapter or part.
Great book. Must have it, if you are studying Organizational Behaviors (OB).
Also, this book is well known to many of top ranked universities in Graduate Programs (MBA) and No. of copies this books have been sold are in few hundred thousands !!! (@ 380,000 copies) justifies it's strength and quality of knowledge as well.

Customer Reviews:
The new Bible in Knowledge Management.......2000-04-12
This book will be a new bible in knowledge management, as was the Fifth Dimension (P.Senge)or the Knowledge-creating Company (Nonaka). It is one of the most interesting books available on knowledge management, for academics and practitioners. It provides a new vision of knowledge management and has a real value-added, compared to most of the books currently published in this area, which all propose the same ideas and success-stories. The editors and authors (among them Von Krogh, Ross, Blakler, Nonaka, Probst) are the best academics in the area, in America, Europe and Asia. Their theoretical background offer a comprehensive view of knowledge in organizations. They provide a new vision based on a constructivist and pragmatist approach of organizational knowledge and action, which contrast with the classical positivist school of thought. However, their book is not only for academics, but also for high-level managers concerned with implementing and measuring knowledge. The excellent quality of the conceptual background offers a basis for reflection, and they provide useful tools and examples of knowledge creation and measurement. The best book in this topic currently!

Book Description
Managing Development is an authoritative text for all courses in development management, and provides insights into the partnership approach to development. It demonstrates how changing institutional imperatives, terminology and political agendas have resulted in new types of relationships emerging between groups and organizations in the development process. The book examines these opportunities, both by analysing the underlying concepts and agendas, and by thinking explicitly about what these mean for management practice. The contributors suggest ways in which inter-organizational relationships can be worked out in practice, and provide examples and case studies which explore ways of managing real-life complexities in development management.
This book will be essential reading for those studying development management, and for those working in development and policy. It will also be relevant to students and teachers of organizational development.
Managing Development is the course text for The Open University postgraduate course Institutional Development: Conflicts, Values and Meanings (TU872).
