Great seller.......2005-10-02
Book was a little more used than described, but hey for the price it couldn't be beat. To bad my sylabus was wrong and the professor changed the edition. Anyhow, seller was excellent. Fast shipping and I would reccommend.
My first accounting book.......2005-02-16
I used this textbook for my first accounting class and it was by far the best. Examples are all spelled out step by step and the numerous exercies and problems contribute to a higher level of understanding. Buy the workbook offered. It will save you a lot of time normally spent setting up the problem. Much better then some of the higher level books I have used.
Fundamental Accounting Principles.......2000-12-12
This text was VERY helpful. The illustrations and examples were enough to explain the topic without havung to read the entire book.. Also the problems given at the end of each section were very good. Some were tough; however, the author starts you out with easy problems and works up to the more difficult ones. This text definitely is a good learning aid.
Book Description

In addition to a clear, concise writing style, carefully planned organization, and numerous illustrations, this new edition now offers an even more attractive design that enhances learning while maintaining student interest. A spreadsheet applications disk can be packaged with the text.

Excellent Accounting theory.......2000-11-05
I find this book very interesting about accounting theory and principles. He base his structure about a revenus-expenses method, instead of the usual assets-liabilieties approach. Furthermore, the Author develops his structure starting from some declared principles, instead of implicit or misunderstood assumptions or preconceptions. He derives some operational concepts starting from these principles. His assumption about satisfying principle is most insteresting. The Author considers this satisfying principle as opposed to the maximisation principle as firm's objective. See also an article in Harvard Business Review, 1960. A book to buy, to study hard and to remember.
Book Description
Accounting: What The Numbers Mean, 5e, was written to meet the needs of non-accountants who want a basic understanding of financial statements, and who want to learn how to use accounting information in the financial decision-making process. The reader is introduced to basic concepts supporting financial statements and managerial accounting information. Students learn what financial statements do and do not communicate. A complete annual report is included in the appendix.
Customer Reviews:
Seems intentionally confusing.......2007-03-25
I'm just starting a class that requires this book. I don't have a financial background. The book is confusing. It seems like the chapters outline basic principles. However, when it comes to doing the homework problems, the text asks things that were poorly covered and/or obscure.
I wish I didn't have to take this class and could get my money back.
Trish.......2006-02-27
I gave this book one star because there are no negative numbers available. The other reviews here are all true! This is a horrible textbook that jumps from subject to subject quickly, gives simplistic examples in the chapter and then throws complex homework problems with new components not explained in the chapter--oh and don't let me forget to mention that the terminology changes from chapter to homework as well! A friend with two masters (business and engineering) became so frustrated trying to help with a problem that he threw his hands up. The terminology kept throwing him off.
If you are supposed to buy this text I suggest you either show these to college administration ahead of time, or take another class. This is so bad I won't even sell mine back. I'm throwing it in my grill to burn.
This text is terrible.......2005-11-16
This book lacks effective structure, or comprehensible structure at least, and the writing is both tedious and meandering. Many of the examples are minimally useful and some are only vaguely associated to the concepts they are meant to support. Useless! This book wasted the time I had taken from my family to study accounting. Why would anyone select this text for a graduate level class???
What a waste of money.......2005-10-17
This textbook is fullllllll of inaccuracies. Additionally, the author gets some sort of sick thrill from giving really simple, insufficient examples in the chapters, and then giving over-the-top difficult questions in the homework. This author also loves to ramble and make this already tedious subject just as incomprehensible as he can possibly make it. My husband is a CFO and could NOT believe how horrible this book is. It's that bad. Students should demand that a different textbook be required.
Very confusing text.......2005-02-09
I found this textbook to be very confusing. It doesn't spend enough time elaborating on each topic before it moves on to the next.

Customer Reviews:
Starts out good...........2007-03-23
I got through 5 chapters out of 12 before the ideas started to become repetitive and muddled. It was like someone who talks very fast, sharing every thought and theory without a clear idea of the desired outcome. Way too much jargon and Phrases That Were Needlessly Capitalized. Maybe useful as a text book, but for somone looking for a clear process to assist my organization, it really missed the mark. Oh, and the book started to fall apart the second time I picked it up.
A Welcome Guidebook.......2007-02-08
I enjoyed reading "The Strategic Development of Talent". It clears shows that the workplace is changing and CEOs, owners and managers alike need to open their eyes to the changing business landscape. In this book, Rothwell engages the reader with the tried and tested principles of strategic business planning to talent management, knowledge management and workplace learning. The book is very easy to read and understand and contains several exhibits and a template to guide you through the process. There are dozens of bland business books out there, which are difficult, at times, to relate to my own experience in the workplace. "The Strategic Development of Talent", on the other hand, hits the nail on the head. I got the sense that here is a book I can easily relate to, which is practical and useful.
Here is a book that not only "tells it like it is," but offers prophetic insights into "how it needs to be." Rothwell ignites the imagination, expands the possibilities, and offers practical strategies any organisation can use to effectively develop, retain and utilise talent for the benefit of an organisation and enter the fluid, flexible future. Managers at all levels will cheer the sanity Rothwell suggests.
Rothwell's ideas apply to any organisation which competes for available talent and then is challenged to keep its best people who, more easily now more than ever before, can leave the organisation whenever and wherever they wish. From my perspective, effective development of talent is essential to winning the competition for customer's repeat business. A careful implementation of the strategies and tactics which Rothwell recommends in this book will help to achieve that ultimate objective.
Outstanding Text.......2005-10-11
I am a professor and have used this book in one of my classes for preparing managers of training. This book was especially helpful in understanding strategic planning for those who have not been involved in that process previously. It provided several models that can be used to plan strategically the needs of the organization of which talent, is the most critical and difficult factor within an organization to plan for. It is also one of the only books that addresses the issue of people and talent development as a strategic need. It provides a rationale for talent development and an updated review of how the field of training has evolved into Workplace Learning and Performance. The reviewer who was so disappointed with this book probably doesn't understand how these roles have changed. Training as it is tradionally known, would have no need for understanding the criticl nature of talent development. It's time to move into the new millenium!!
Great Information, Reader Friendly.......2005-10-08
I found this book to right on the money and helped tremendously with a project I am conducting on competency modeling as it relates to organizational talent. This book carries pertinent information, but it is organized and written in such a way that is easily digestable. I am confused by the review that states it is poorly written. Are you sure you were reading "The Strategic Development of Talent"?
Well deserved award receiving book.......2005-10-08
I bought this book for my research about talent management and human resource development. It is very clear and practical not to mention that its clear contruction and organization. This book very reserves and actually got award from Academy of Human resource development. Thanks for great book.

Book Description
"High flyers" are high-potential employees expected to progress rapidly in their careers with the prospect of eventually filling senior positions. One cannot, however, simply recruit high flyers at will - to earn their status they must go through a necessary process of building an identity with the organization and developing loyalty to it. This book emphasizes the paradoxes involved in this process. It is a guide to the complex strategic issue of replenishing core leadership within the context of future uncertainty and within new organizational structures.
