The working papers are a great addition to the text because they have charts for you to fill in when doing the exercises at the end of the chapter. It's nice to have the double entry journals layed out for you.

3 out of 5 stars We all have to suffer somehow. .......2004-09-25

Despite how intimidating accounting can be for some students, this book really offers a lot. From the CD to the neat little transparencies in chapter 4, this book does give students a greater insight to accounting. Unfortunately, I feel that the book offers too much to students. Icons are all over the place in the book, examples that go nowhere, and page references for problems that actually don't help at all. You have to sift through the chapters yourself to find the right page.
If you have to buy it, buy it... But get all the add ons, they're great to have.

P.S. When in doubt, go to the website, they have great narrated powerpoint presentations on each chapter!

          Book Description

Work more effectively and gauge your progress as you go along! These Working Papers that are designed to accompany Kimmel, Weygandt, and Kieso’s Principles of Accounting, Volume I, are solution forms and partially completed solution forms for all end-of-chapter problems and exercises. This resource demonstrates how to correctly set up solution formats.

This new Principles of Accounting text helps students navigate their future accounting and business careers with a practical set of accounting tools and the confidence they need to use those tools effectively in making business decisions. The authors have taken a more conceptual and decision-making approach to the material, which many instructors are now bringing into their accounting courses based on the AECC "white paper" report and other recent market trends (e.g., a reduction in Accounting majors, etc.).

Kimmel, Weygandt, and Kieso motivate students by beginning with the larger picture. Taking a macro-to-micro approach, the discussion starts with real financial statements first, rather than starting with the Accounting Cycle. This innovative approach quickly establishes how a financial statement communicates the financing, investing, and operating activities of a business to users of accounting information. Throughout, the text clearly demonstrates the importance of accounting to society and the relevance of accounting to students’ future careers.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Introductory Text.......2006-03-09

I have never written a review on here, but I felt like I should give praise for this book, beacuse I really liked it.

I just finished my second principles of accounting class, and thus completed this text book. I found it to be an excellent learning resource. The book is well written to make the subject entertaining and accessible. There is a wealth of problems after each chapter, and many illustrations to aid in understanding. Even if you get a bad professor, you can easily learn the subject just from this text.

5 out of 5 stars Principles of Accounting, with Annual Report.......2005-09-27

Book used for accounting classes...very complete and thorough. Entertaining and helpful stories and illustrations to help understand concepts.

5 out of 5 stars Best single volume accounting text out there.......2005-08-15

I found this to be the best single volume accounting text to include both financial accounting and managerial accounting topics at a reasonable price.

I use this in my accounting courses. The other reviewers mentioned that the text uses jargon. It does not, though one will need to know or learn standard American business terminology. If you are not interested in American business, you should not be taking an accounting course in the first place. Many of my students are taking this course because it is required. Many of them would be better off in another major, as they have no interest in American business.

1 out of 5 stars Difficult to read.......2005-08-02

This textbook is very difficult to read and comprehend. When I took Principles of Accounting the textbook was very unhelpful and left myself and others looking for alternate resources to understand the basic concepts of accounting. But for those who are in classes that must use this textbook, I recoomend finding the best ways to avoid buying this, such as sharing with two or three friends or buying used.

            Book Description

This book takes a very critical look at management fads and fashions to show that many do not stand up to scrutiny. It is believed, for example, that coaching is successful. What is the evidence for this? Selection procedures at interviews result in the right candidate being selected. Again, what is the evidence? The author shows that although many fads and fashions in management are short-lived and based upon flimsy evidence, they still enjoy a period of support and popularity. His bok will be an important tool for managers who want to understand the substance and rigor or lack thereof associated with modern management ideas and concepts.

            3 out of 5 stars Unfortunately, a missed opportunity.......2006-10-29

Ever since reading "Hard Facts,.." by Pfeffer and Sutton, I've become a believer of 'evidence based management' (EBM) and always looking for more information/books on this topic. This book by Adrian Furnham was recommended by Pfeffer and Sutton, and so I bought it in eager anticipation.

The introduction offers excellent information on the fads and fallacies of management, including the need for evidence based management (EBM).

The rest of the book, unfortunately, just doesn't cut it from an EBM perspective. Many significant management topics are discussed, Furnham gives his opinion but doesn't give the reader any evidence to back-up his opinion on the subject(i.e. proper references to relevant research). Where's the verifiable evidence?

So, the book discusses the right topics, but the evidence is lacking.
In my mind, a missed opportunity. It could have been so much better.
