Book Description
A day does not pass without a newspaper report about yet another company that has started outsourcing technology or other business processes to India. The Senate recently voted 70 to 26 in favor of preventing federal contracts going offshore, yet US managers continue to beat a path to India because it is the global leader for offshore IT-enabled services. Many CEOs seek to reduce their costs or improve service quality, but not many understand India on their first visit and some are confused by the culture.
In this book author Mark Kobayashi-Hillary introduces India and the major players in the Indian service industry. He offers a balanced view on the trend to outsource to India, describing the reasons why a business should utilize India as an offshore outsourcing destination and the steps needed to find and work with a local partner. Not only does the book make a compelling economic case for outsourcing to this region, it also discusses how to manage the entire transition process, including the potential impact on local resources.
Mark Kobayashi-Hillary is a British writer and independent outsourcing consultant based in London. He has worked at a senior level for several leading banking and technology groups and has been involved in managing outsourced relationships in the UK, Singapore and India. He is a regular commentator on India and outsourcing in the European press.
Outsourcing To India is written from personal experience and several years of research. This practical guide will help managers navigate through the offshore outsourcing maze, allowing them to avoid many of the major pitfalls others have faced when setting up shop in India.

The 2007-2012 Outlook for Outsourcing Services in India
Philip M. Parker Manufacturer: ICON Group International, Inc. ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0497563177 Release Date: 2006-09-25 |
Book Description
This study covers the latent demand outlook for outsourcing services across the states, union territories and cities of India. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across over 5,100 cities in India. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it’s state or union territory and of India as a whole is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-à-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each state or union territory and city, latent demand estimates are created for outsourcing services. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

Building a Future with BRICs: The Next Decade for Offshoring
Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 3540464530 |
Book Description
In 2003, Goldman Sachs published a startling report on the BRICs (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) region: These four countries would be larger than the G6 economics within 40 years, muscling their way to economic dominance over the coming decades, and powering past developed countries such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and Japan. This book focuses on the technology and technology-enabled services that underpin this social and economic revolution. The editor analyses the reasons why these four countries are in a unique position to lead a 21st century growth in international services. He then features 12 chapters written by the most important chief executives from the BRICs service economy. Indian technology leaders, such as Nandan Nilekani (Infosys), Shiv Nadar (HCL), and Rajendra Pawar (NIIT), feature alongside their peers from Brazil, Russia, and China outlining their views on the next decade for offshoring.

Outsourcing to India - A Legal Handbook
Bharat Vagadia Manufacturer: Springer ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 354072219X |
Book Description
For the benefits offered by outsourcing and offshoring, organisations outsourcing to India must however recognise that there are real risks involved, and allocating such risk through a well constructed contract is a crucial step in minimizing such risk. As is the case with respect to any material agreement, the structure of an outsourcing agreement is important because it embodies the rights, remedies, duties and obligations of the parties and provides a blueprint for the parties' relationship.
When contracts transcend national boundaries, the national legal regime of any single country becomes inadequate. When the parties to the contract are located in different countries, at least two systems of law impinge upon the transaction and the rules of International Law come into play. Clauses however addressing certain issues can only be governed by Indian Law.
Specific legal factors around Data Processing, Intellectual Property and staffing implications (TUPE) must also be given careful consideration.

What is Outsourcing? How about Off Shoring? WhatÂ’s the difference? Where does India fit into the Global picture? What do I need to know about the culture there? The aim of this book is to tackle the above questions and more in a simple, easy to read manner and provide a reference of sorts for the uninitiated among us with a heavy leaning towards the country of India and why so many companies are sending more and more of their operations there. This is not a book for those who have been outsourcing for 20 years, it is however a book for those business professionals who would like to begin the journey of understanding a business practice that will one day seem as commonplace as using FedEx to overnight documents. In the not too distant past many companies kept functions like electricity generation and phone service "in house". Today that would seem fool hardy. We believe the same transformation will happen to IT and other business functions, only this time on a global scale. And we believe the country of India will play a big part in this transformation. As almost no large company will be left out of this paradigm shift, it will bec! ome increasing relevant for executives to know about the countries and cultures that will be supporting their organizations. This book starts you on that journey.Download Description
