Corporate Financial Reporting: A Global Perspective
Herve Stolowy , and Michel J. Lebas Manufacturer: Int. Cengage Business Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 1861527535 |
Book Description
Financial Accounting and Reporting courses today need to recognize both the diversity of national traditions and the trend towards accounting harmonization. The profile of students in Financial Accounting courses in European and international business programs is changing. Student bodies are now real melting pots of cultures. English has become the lingua franca of business for most MBA and many undergraduate students. More and more business programs are taught in part or completely in International English. Students today need to be trained to appreciate, understand and analyze a variety of Accounting and Reporting problems from a theoretical and pragmatic point of view, rather than just memorize the local regulatory solution prescribed in one given country or context. Corporate Financial Reporting: A Global Perspective provides an introduction to financial accounting for today's international business student. It provides a user perspective. Financial Accounting and Reporting is a universal knowledge base required from all students intending to become economic actors. Whether they will use accounting and financial information as internal managers or executives, or as external users (investors, credit analysts, etc.) they will need to interpret accounting data. Rather than providing a regulatory solution to a reporting or measurement issue, Corporate Financial Reporting examines the economic logic of the problem and identifies generic possible solutions and shows the impact each might have on a company's or decision maker's decisions. Rather than adopting a `national' approach to accounting issues, Corporate Financial Reporting offers an international perspective, guiding students through IAS, US GAAP and different local standards where they provide an interesting and relevant lesson.Customer Reviews:
clearest book on financial accounting in the market.......2003-02-17
The positive message that the authors send out is that accounting is not that difficult. This book is clear in its structure and language. The reader is gently taken by the hand and shown how to dissect any financial report, whatever its underlying accounting methods.
Readers have to be aware that because of its international perspective, the prime focus is on analysis and not on writing a financial statement.

Financial Accounting and Reporting: A Global Perspective
Herve Stolowy , and Michel J. Lebas Manufacturer: Int. Cengage Business Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items: ASIN: 1844802507 |
Book Description
Financial Accounting and Reporting, the re-titled second edition of Corporate Financial Reporting, has become respected and widely used over the four years since it first appeared. This updated and redesigned edition is an introduction to financial accounting for business students who need a user rather than preparer perspective in accounting. Even more so now than when the book was first published, students of financial accounting in international universities or business schools should be taught to appreciate, understand and analyze a variety of accounting and reporting issues from a global theoretical and generic point of view, rather than just be provided only the answer prescribed in their country of study. This book provides that modern global perspective. Financial Accounting and Reporting has four key strengths. It takes a user perspective throughout, whether discussing reporting principles or in the practice of financial analysis; it both offers a non-prescriptive a-national approach and allows an understanding of comparative differences in practices; it is highly international and reflects the trend towards harmonized international reporting.

Financial Reporting and Global Capital Markets: A History of the International Accounting Standards Committee, 1973-2000
Kees Camfferman , and Stephen A. Zeff Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 0199296294 |
Book Description
Standardization and harmonization of accounting practices is a fundamental element of a global business environment. Achieving this is a complex process that involves technical and political negotiation. The International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC) was the organization that pioneered this process on a world-wide basis. The IASC prepared the way for the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and its International Financial Reporting Standards, which since 2005 have held the dominant influence over the financial reporting of thousands of listed companies in the European Union, as well as in many other countries. The forces and influences that shaped the formation of the IASB were intimately connected with the historical organization and operation of its predecessor, the IASC, and so to understand the standards enforced in financial reporting today, a historical understanding of the IASC is required. Financial Reporting and Global Capital Markets does just this. It examines the history of the IASC from 1973 to 2000, including its foundation, operation, changing membership and leadership, achievements and setbacks, the development of its standards, and its restructuring leading up to the creation of the IASB in 2001. The book also studies the impact of the IASC's standards on national standard setting and on accounting practice in developed and developing countries, as well as the impact on the IASC of the policies and positions of the UN, the OECD, the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the International Organization of Securities Commissions, and the European Commission. It will be of vital interest to all concerned with accounting developments in a global environment, be they academics, policy-makers, or professionals.

ASIN: 1402079524 |
Book Description
Over the past two decades, not only has supply chain analysis become a strategic focus of leading firms, it has also spawned an impressive array of research that brings together diverse research communities. Adding to this diversity and intellectual energy is the emergence of E-Business. E-Business creates new competitive dimensions that are fast-paced, ever-changing, and risk-prone, dimensions where innovation, speed, and technological savvy often define success. Most importantly, E-Business challenges the premises and expands the scope of supply chain analysis. The Handbook is a comprehensive research reference that is essential for anyone interested in conducting research in supply chain. Unique features include:
-A focus on the intersection of quantitative supply chain analysis and E-Business,
-Unlike other edited volumes in the supply chain area, this is a handbook rather than a collection of research papers. Each chapter was written by one or more leading researchers in the area. These authors were invited on the basis of their scholarly expertise and unique insights in a particular sub-area,
-As much attention is given to looking back as to looking forward. Most chapters discuss at length future research needs and research directions from both theoretical and practical perspectives,
-Most chapters describe in detail the quantitative models used for analysis and the theoretical underpinnings; many examples and case studies are provided to demonstrate how the models and the theoretical insights are relevant to real situations,
-Coverage of most state-of-the-art business practices in supply chain management.
Audience: This volume is suitable for researchers, faculty, graduate students, and practitioners in the following areas: supply chain management, operations research, management science, decision science, industrial engineering, operations management, civil engineering/transportation, logistics management, risk management, applied mathematics, economics, computer science, industrial management, and other related areas.

Book Description
Despite the US government spending about 15 to 20 percent of the GDP on contracts, public procurement remains an underdeveloped area of research. This book discusses public procurement reform, a process emphasized by the World Bank and the United Nations, and addresses specific topics such as e-procurement. Samples of RFBs, RFPs and contracts are also included in the text to demonstrate how to write specifications that avoid contract disputes.
