Online Recruiting is an excellent resource for a HR professional, headhunter, or anyone attempting to land a new position.I utilized this great book for my own job hunting and now I use it to find new hires on the internet. It is a great resource. It has helped me keep my recruiting costs down.This book is easy to follow, understand, and what a great resource with all of the charts, etc.. This book takes the guess work out of online recruiting. Packed with information that would have taken hours of surfing the Net. Tools and Tricks in Chapter Four make quick and easy work of getting the most out of Internet job posting and job seeking. A step by step guide on how to attract high quality employees to your firm quickly and easily. I'll keep this on hand as a much needed reference tool.

Highly recommend this guide for online recruiting.......2000-12-21

This book is well written and packs a lot of very useful information for company recruiters. For this reason I purchased a number of these books for all my recruiters. This book has great endorsements by Monster.com, The Riley Guide, and CareerXRoads. I can see why they say "written for the experienced recruiter, the rookie, and everyone in between."

I've been recruiting for over 20 years and using the Internet every day for the last 5. I read the first two chapters of this book and then just glanced through the rest. It is very basic stuff and much of the information is completely out of date now. The author seems to be self-promoting and sounds more like an Internet marketer than a serious recruitment professional.

Sorry - but this book misses the mark.......2003-01-10

Very little real solutions...I don't know if the other reviewers read a different book than I did but honestly not that informative and has nothing "new" in it. Nothing in here that one couldn't figure out for oneself just by using common sense and having a better-than-rudimentary knowledge of the Internet.

Very well written. It provides a comprehensive overview of the major changes that have occurred in the last five years in the recruiting industry. Ling's style is easy to read and will make sense to the non-geeks out there. My copy is already dogeared and highlighted and will be required reading for our department managers.

Appeals to a broad audience.......2001-01-11

I am a seasoned strategic internet sourcer who has been online for over four years. I found this primer to be quite informative because it reminded me of many advanced searching and sourcing techniques that are quite useful and not well-known. This book has broad appeal because it can be read by both novices and experieced professionals who rely on the internet to market and grow their businesses.

Poor Richard's Internet Recruiting addresses the key topics that are presented in many of the top internet recruiting seminars.

While I'm sure this was a good resources when it came out the material is now very out of date. This is a basic primer on why you should have a web site and how to use it. References to Compuserve are just one example of how old the information is.

The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: The purpose of this thesis is to assess the effectiveness of the Recruiting Station Location Evaluation System (RSLES) optimization model developed at Naval Postgraduate School as a result of the OSD Recruiting Station Location Project. RSLES was designed to aid DoD decision-makers in determining the optimum number of recruiting stations, their geographic location and staff size. The optimization procedure attempts to maximize contract production subject to service budget constraints. This system integrates an Access database, a GAMS optimizer and Mapinfo graphics to provide a flexible environment to maximize production through market analysis and demographic information. This research applies RSLES to 39 Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSA) under three different stationing scenarios and analyzes the output to determine the effectiveness of the model. The recommended station location actions of the RSLES model are compared to actual stationing decisions made by the Navy and Army in fiscal years 1999 and 2000. The comparisons show that applying the RSLES model could increase Army and Navy contract production by 3, 938 high-quality accessions for all 256 MSA's in the U.S.

The primary objective of this thesis was to develop an Internet-based "mock-up" of an Online Recruiting Station (ORS) to benefit military recruiting. An ORS Web-site was created with the assistance of a contractor (and funding support from the Commander, Navy Recruiting Command). Several interactive elements were constructed as part of the ORS, including a wide range of linked Web pages for a "virtual recruiter" environment. A focus group of high school students was then assembled to evaluate the ORS "mock-up." Focus group participants were able to identify the purpose and concept of the ORS "mock-up." The participants appreciated many of the features of the ORS, and felt that it offered a "comfortable" alternative to dealing directly with a military recruiter. Further development of the ORS is recommended so that it may become fully integrated into the military's recruiting process.
