Book Description

Valuation for Financial Reporting: Intangible Assets, Goodwill, and Impairment Analysis provides guidance and insight in the identification and measurement of intangible assets and goodwill pursuant to the Financial Accounting Standards Board Statements of Financial Accounting Standards (SFAS) No. 141, Business Combinations and (SFAS) No. 142 Goodwill and Other Intangible Assets.

The new rules are sweeping and complex. Valuation for Financial Reporting will bring clarity to CFOs, auditors, valuation professionals, and CPAs by explaining the valuation aspects of the new financial reporting requirements, including how to identify the characteristics of goodwill and intangible assets, determine if impairment has occurred, and employ specific methods to assess the financial impact of such impairment.

While numerous articles and commentaries on the subject have appeared dating back to the time the FASB began considering the issue, Valuation for Financial Reporting is the first to provide "real world" examples of the valuation techniques and methodologies required to perform a purchase price allocation under SFAS No. 141 and an impairment study under SFAS No. 142. Valuation for Financial Reporting will help lift the veil of mystery surrounding these two important pronouncements and provide a practical guide for their implementation.

5 out of 5 stars A must read on SFAS 141 and 142.......2002-06-14

If you need to comply with SFAS 141 and 142, you will want to read this book. The authors understand these standards inside and out. The book's coverage is practical, thorough and written in easy to understand language (which is important because the changes outlined in SFAS 141 and 142 are far reaching and complex.) The best part of this book is that in addition to providing compliance guidance for SFAS 141 & 142, it also shows you how to apply the standards. This is key! I also found the book helpful on showing me how to identify and value intagible assests which is still a somewhatnew area for me.

5 out of 5 stars Great coverage of new SFAS 141 and 142.......2002-06-11

This is timely and excellent coverage of SFAS 141 and 142. The authors' explanation are clear and complete. I would recommend this book to everyone involved in valuation.

2 out of 5 stars For Beginners only.......2006-08-22

This is basically a rehash of the CCCS party line - absolutely NOTHING new or original in here. NOTHING about debt negotiation - reducing the principal balance, the money actually owed, not just payments or interest rates. Easy to read, a fine primer for someone who knows nothing about this stuff and is in debt trouble for the first time, but useless to someone who is fighting for his financial life against debt collection lawyers.

Hmmmmmmm. Five reviews, with all five giving five stars. All of the reviews were extremely simple, just a mere few sentences at most, for them ALL. But the best part is when I looked at "see all my reviews" for each of these people, and I see that they ALL reviewed od they sounded juuuuuuuust like the same person could have wrotene book, and one book only (this one, obviously).

Methinks sumpin' stinks! That's a litte bit too much coincidence there for me, so I am gonna do a little rank equalizin'!

OK, all you cheaters out there, the Doc h as his eyes on ya!!

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good, but..........2007-09-14

The book is chock full of useful information. Some is common sense, some not so common. However, it contains little about dealing with the Internet and communicating by email about credit. Moreover, as a man, I didn't appreciate the book's strong tilt toward women. Throughout, the author uses female pronouns and in places villainizes men. No advice for a man whose ex-wife has cleaned him out.

5 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Credit Handbook.......2003-06-05

We used the information outlined in this book and it worked great. We had an old credit issue that dogged us for years. With this credit advise, we were able to deal effectively with AmEx and get incorrect charge-offs against our credit removed. This information is powerful and valuable. We recommend it.

this book gave me the information i needed to turn my finacial life around. easy to understand the who what where how and why to your credit history and future. if you need help with anything regarding your credit this book is all you need. thank you gerri detweiler.

5 out of 5 stars This book is extremely well written!.......2001-12-05

This book truely answered all of my questions about credit and then went into suggestions that I could understand and implement. My credit is now perfect with a credit score of over 750. You will learn that scores over 700 are considered "A" credit. You will also see the importance of paying off high interest debt first. It sounds so simple but many people, like myself, were paying more on our mortgage while still carrying a credit card balance. This book has changed my family into knowledgable consumers. We are now debt free and I would strongly recommend it to anyone- and no, I don't know the author.

5 out of 5 stars A Good Read.......2001-11-15

A could credit counselling book since: tells you how to budget, where you stand credit-wise, and even suggests bankruptcy (as a last resort). Worth the cost! Common sense is not so common.

4 out of 5 stars everything you wanted to know about credit but were too ashamed to ask.......2006-11-05

This book was very helpful. It revealed some information that I did not know. I would recommend this book for anyone who is just coming out of bankrupty and or who has filed Chapter 13. Need more information on collections agency.

5 out of 5 stars A must for taking control of your finances and your life.......2004-12-09

This book is excellent because it is at once comprehensive and easy to understand. (I'm really surprised that a search of Amazon revealed no other recently published books on this subject.) It really arms the average person with all of the information they need to understand the credit system, with tools and advice enabling him or her to manage and improve their credit. This book does not offer pie-in-the-sky credit repair schemes or tricks. It provides you with a clear understanding of credit in a straight-forward easy-to-follow Q&A format. It also supplies sample letters to help people to communicate effectively with creditors, and review the laws protecting people from being harrassed by them. This book should be required reading for everyone from the age of 13 and up. It's a great example of the kind of book that we should have in schools as part of a desperately needed financial literacy curriculum. Whether you have a credit score of less than 400 or more than 800 (I'm in the low 700s myself, and climbing), you must read this book.

This book is full of great tips and ideas that helped me understand just what my credit report was saying. There were a few items on there that scared me because they weren't my debts. I followed the instructions in D.J.'s book and got it cleared up at all three credit bureaus within a few weeks. Just in time for us to get our home loan finally approved so we could buy our first home.

It's easy to read and to understand. None of that jargon and special code words that our loan officer used when we applied for our home loan. Definitely a good buy if you're having credit problems or need help with money management.

Title: Homebuyer's Helper: How To Have and Hold On To Your House

          Author: Dr. Taffy W. Wagner

Buying a first home is a huge challenge that must not be made without proper investigation and education. There is so much more to it than just getting a mortgage and moving in. Many people fail to think of unforeseen occurrences and costs let alone the high cost of maintaining a home on a daily, monthly and yearly basis.

Dr. Wagner has written a fact filled book that is a must read for all those thinking of buying a new home, especially if this is the first new home. She takes the future homebuyer from the very first step, considering personal credit reports through to moving in, escrow accounts and possible emergencies after the move is final. Appendices at the end of her book give further invaluable information including credit agencies, sample budgets for new homes and payment assistance programs. If you don't need this information yourself, give this volume to a friend or relative who is planning to purchase a new home.
