There is not ONE SINGLE PICTURE or mention of Robert Reed in this entire book! Reed was an essential part of "The Brady Bunch," and his image is not included or cut out of the entire book. What's that all about?

Ok, so there's no Mike Brady (by his family's choice); get over it! This is still a great book filled with the "wisdom" that years of watching the "Brady Bunch" can provide you. Can't we all use a little common sense?

Wow, imagine my surprise when I discovered that not only is there not one quote in this "guide" from Mike Brady, who, in my opinion, offered the best advice, but they even made sure to cut him out of EVERY single picture in the book, replacing his face on the tic-tac-toe picture cover with Alice the maid who belonged in the middle square. I looked through every picture in the book and all I want to know is WHERE IS MIKE BRADY? It's simply not "The Brady Bunch" without the father.
Fun book (for what it is).......2006-07-22
The book is fun and harmless enough, particularly if you're well-versed in all the episodes. It's an interesting yet silly way to actually teach some life lessons because, let's face it, that's what the show was all about anyway.
As for the absence of Robert Reed, the book's author and publishers are not homophobic. It is Robert Reed's estate that doesn't license his image for all products, because he considered himself a more serious actor and didn't like to be linked to that role (sort of like Johnny Depp and "21 Jump Street," but on a much different scale). Just look at other Brady products (lunchboxes, keychains and other things like that), and you typically won't find Reed's picture on those either.
But back to the main topic... If you're a big fan, you should enjoy the book. It's also a simple and great gift for anyone you know who may be a fan and has a decent sense of humor.

I loved the mini book and all the pictures, but was perplexed by the lack of Robert Reed pictured anywhere in this book. It makes you wonder if the author is anti-gay. The book would be so much better with pics of Mr. Brady!!!!

Not a "Strategy" Guide.......2007-02-04
Unfortunately, this is one of the least helpful "strategy" guides I've ever used. Most of the information is in the manual, and the information that you REALLY want from a strategy guide, such as side quests, character subplots, and hidden secrets, is 100% absent. I was most disappointed that it didn't explain the character influence system - what situations and responses would change your influence, and what the ultimate result would be. For example, does influence trigger a side quest for each character or only for certain ones. Influence is hardly even mentioned in this guide. Another glaring omission is the lack of information about item crafting. I expected this guide to detail the different crafting materials, spells, and gems needed to build your own arsenal. Again, hardly even mentioned. I'm not sure what the value of this guide is, really, since everything in it would be discovered in the course of the most casual gameplay.

As has been stated in the other reviews, no real substance to this book. I just wanted to add that this is the worst proof-read ever done. My six year old could have done a better job proof-reading. There are even entire passages that appear to be in French. WTF? You would think that as the person typing this out you could go back over your own text. Obviosly didn't happen.
See? It's not even that difficult. I just corrected two errors in my review. Before it was even posted. What a novel concept....

The Incomplete Guide.......2003-05-18
The guide was written before the game was complete - specifically the final level. Their comment is "As of press time the final encounter was still not complete, so we don't know exactly what waits on the other side of that portal..." Not exactly helpful. Nor would I call it "Complete" or "Perfect"
The maps and narrative are quest specific. Other areas where you might encounter creatures, houses, or items are left out. The maps are inconsistent in quality. Some are thorough and well marked. Others are missing the letters being referenced completely.
The creature, item, and spells appendix is not much more useful than finding it in the game and examining it. Reference to where the items might be found or made is not given. The narrative text does list items that can be forged, but a hint to the rest (i.e. high level boss chest in ch4 only) is missing.
Multiplayer is not covered at all.
Final: If you are really struggling with the early and mid portion of the game, you are probably better off looking online. If you want to mule your way through making sure you get every quest, this book has some limited value.
so-so guide for NWN.......2002-11-27
I'm obviously in the minority here; I didn't hate the book, nor did I find it worthy of a great review. I think the book is just so-so. It does the job giving you a point in the right direction, but sometimes, only barely.
I love NWN, and purchased this book to help slog through the different possible quests. I think that the asking price was too much for a magazine-ish glossy book.
Aside from the price, there were other things to disappoint. There were errors in the book (I'm guessing that the book was written before the game was finished). Also, the layout and organization is horrible. Columns of text are punctuated with screenshots and cartoon-ish. The maps in the book are not great, either.
On the other hand, the book does point you in the right direction, and I found myself flipping through it in order to save some time and rack up a few extra quests.
A good portion of the book lists out spells, weapons, skills, and monsters. These sections are easiest to read and most uniform, more so than the little book that comes with NWN.
For those of us who don't get dressed up and beat each other with wooden swords on the weekends (or know the newer DND rules), this book is helpful, if you can get past the gaudy, glossy, cluttered pages.

I definitley can't speak for the rest of the people who reveiwed this game guide but I found it to be informative and detailed. I'm new to the rpg gameing experience so people who have played rpg's for a while might dissagree, but on the whole I found the charachter descriptions to be very well written and useful.
The only major flaws I found were the lack of markings on some of the maps which gets confusing, but the weapon appendix and spell appendix was way better than I could've hoped for. I also plan on getting the world builders guide, and I can only hope that is's half as good as the adventure guide. :-)

I ordered the adventure guide in spite of these reviews. I've played Baldurs Gate I and II and I was pretty sure that the guide would help me. I was right. I don't like to zip through these kinds of games, but be thorough and take ALL the side quests and find all the loot.
While I waited for this guide, I played all of Chapter 1 and part of 2. When I got the guide, I found that, in spite of my attempts at thoroughness, I had missed some good stuff and some side quests. AND, I had two amateur walkthroughs I had gotten off the net to guide me. They weren't as good as this guide by far. For instance, I found that neither the game manual nor the amateur walkthroughs helped me design my main character correctly. In fact, the manual mislead me in my design. This Versus guide got me straightened out.
Not only do I like the walkthrough in this Versus guide, but I like the character descriptions and like the information given about how to build effective characters that take advantage of the uniqueness of each type of character. I also like the extensive spell and equipment lists. I find that NWN is even more full of neat equipment and items to find and use than BG and BGII. Having this guide has helped me determine what is the best equipment for my character to use as it levels up. As to spells, I've found the same thing. Due to this guide I have a better idea about what the spells do and how to effectively use them than I had without it.
The bottomline is: I'm glad I ignored the previous reviews.
VERSUS BOOKS need to stick to console games.......2002-08-13
Ummm, to start off the guide is 232 pages and you'd think "this guide is nice and thick and its made by VERSUS BOOKS so it must be good."
Even if VERSUS makes some of the best guides of all time, but do they really need to make PC guides? My opinion, they shouldn't. Here are a few things to explain why.
The layout and organization in this guide is terrible! And lets face it this guide is full of error after error after error! The tables and such are good but some pages are put in the guide horizontally formatted making you flip the book (why might I ask?) Its nice that this a PC guide in color and while it doesn't seem like much its the only reason that the guide is worth two stars (cuz every other PC guide is black and white).
The monster appendix and such are easy to read, the game basics are very nice but I think where the guide fails is the walkthrough the adventure. The guide is full of errors. Also the price is too much (that goes for every PC guide). Its bad enough that console guides are 15 dollars, do we really need to lay down 20 dollars when we could go and get a greatest hit game for that?
Overall the guide is bad, so you may want to go to a place like GameFAQs for the info.
VERSUS BOOKS guides are better sticking to console games thats the only place they're any good so far.

"guidebook" not a how-to.......2007-08-23
This book teaches you nothing about how to use the interface. It is just a guide to start a world. It simply suggests things you need to do to build your own world but tells you nothing. Skip this book unless you don't have any clue whatsoever about the world you want to make, and don't have any idea where to start.

The NWN2 toolset is a powerful, yet complicated piece of software. If you work through this book page by page, you will not even open the editor until p. 38! The book is filled with story advise, boiling down to "don't do too much this, or too much of that...and be sure to plan ahead!" and other obvious advice. Where is the documentation on the scripting events? Where is the how to do stuff section? This leaves us all a very steep learning curve with no official help. Don't waist your money, go online for community help!

All I can say, is AVOID THIS BOOK. It is nothing like the NWN1 builder's manual. Devoid of all useful content and filled with nothing but worthless interviews, you can quickly tell the authors never used the toolset themselves. So much has changed that even the handful of suggestions they provide are meaningless. Please I beg of you all! Check out the forums, vault and fansites for assistance and leave this dreadful guide out of it!
A horrible waste of money.......2006-12-19
Despite it's sharp looking cover (the best thing about this book), this is an utterly useless book, containing maybe 3 to 4 hours of basic info that you can get off of the net, in better form and with better screenshots, in the same time. The rest of the book is fluff. BradyGames has never, imho, done a good job with strategy guides and such, but this one takes the cream when it comes to shovelware.
Do yourself a favor - dont buy it. Get the Dont Panic guide off the net, and a lot of useful tutorials scattered around on the vault and on the official forums. You'll be much happier than if you waste time and money with this trash.

As I understand it this book was built before the toolset for NWN was even completed. It is dated and far from helpful. My advice is to go to nwvault, there are plenty of free scripting and worldbuilding tutorials put out by the community that are far better than this paperweight.

Pages 1 through 124 are absolutely useless as the errors and false-starts out-weigh the positives. I did like the monster details. They're good for when I'm putting my ideas on paper for pre-planning.

A Waste of Money.......2002-12-06
This book was terribly written and poorly organized. It's difficult to follow, the tips come in the wrong order, and the examples often don't work. In addition, the book doesn't go into enough detail explaining terms and how and why things work. If you're not already a programmer, the book won't help you to learn anything about module creation. As a tool for getting started creating modules (which it purports to be), it's an utter failure. The authors often refer to their own module that they created, which you can allegedly download and use as an example, but as of December 2002, it still was unavailable. The section on monsters at the end is pointless filler that belonged in the adventure book if anywhere (even the tips the books gives are geared toward fighting the monsters, not using them in your adventures)...This book was a terrible waste of money...
NWN World Builders Guide - Two thumbs down.......2002-11-23
This book is very poorly written. I am not exactly who their target audience is but I do not think it will help a novice or experience builder. There is much better resources available on the NWN site from Bioware as well at the NWN Vault on the internet for free. There are lots of tutorials that you can download to read or activate and view a module being built right over the internet.

The guide doesn't offer a great deal of content. Some nice shiny pictures, a lot of information rehashed from the game manual, a few good character ideas and a fairly good walkthrough. As some one who played this game way too much, it's clear the creators had only modest familiarity with the game just by the descriptions they offer for feats, items, etc. If you like having a walkthrough it does a solid job of that, but otherwise I found it mostly useless.

Well, I must say that the writer has a bit of a sence of Humor, however I think the book is a bit backwords. The detail for the story and quests are very good, however they should have placed it in the front of the book, not the back. Very colorful, well writen and full of info. This is a must for NWN players.

The text is too small. The book has too many screenshots taking up space that do not tell you anything. Needs to have more emphasis on the walkthrough with detailed maps. I often got the feeling the writer was holding back on me.
