What a waste!
The title of this book should not be allowed to use the term "accounting." There are a plethora of very inexpensive computerized accounting systems for small businesses. I purchased Simply Accounting from Best Software and was looking for a text to supplement my knowledge to assist me in implementing the system. This mechanized accounting system from Best works beautifully and then I discover this accounting book uses "single-entry accounting" which in my opinion doesn't even exist except in the author's mind or can't be defined that I am aware of. This book comprises a system of manual forms to manage your business and as I said before, should not be able to use accounting in its title. At least label it something like "Use Manual Forms to Manage Your Business."

                      Book Description

The scope of service provided by professional accountants is influenced by legislation and case law as well as the dictates of a variety of government and private sector agencies; including State Boards of Accountancy, Academic Accreditation Bodies, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, the Public Accounting Oversight Board, independent standard setting bodies such as the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board [US], the Financial Accounting Standards Board [US] and the International Accounting Standards Board. These entities and self-regulatory organizations such as U.S. State Societies of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
and equivalent and emerging national bodies that exist in most developed and developing countries, are among the emerging entities which attempt to coordinate the activities of professional accountants among sovereign nations. It is important for academics, students, practitioners, regulators and researchers to consider and study the role and relationship of such bodies with the practice and content of our discipline.

Research in Accounting Regulation seeks high quality manuscripts which address accounting regulatory policy, broadly defined, including:

                      1. self regulatory activities

                      2. case law and litigation

                      3. legislation and government regulation

                      4. the economics of regulation of markets, and disclosure, including modeling

                      5. matters involving the structure of education, licensing, and accreditation

The editors encourage submission of original empirical, behavioral or applied research manuscripts which consider strategic and policy implications for regulation, regulatory models and markets. It is intended for individual researchers, practitioners, regulators and students of accountancy who desire to increase their understanding of the regulation of accountancy.

                          Book Description

The theme of this issue is international buyer behavior. The papers collected in this volume contribute to theory development and contain important implications for managers and policy makers. With chapters written by leading marketing scholars from around the world, including current and/or former Presidents of the American Academy of Advertising, the European Academy of Advertising, and the Korea Advertising Society, this volume focuses on cutting edge issues that affect buyer behavior in an international context.

The first of the four sections of the book focuses on a controversial topic: the impact of direct to consumer prescription drug advertising on consumers. Next is a group of papers that looks at the role of emotions in advertising and retailing contexts and their impact on buyers. The third section of the book examines cultural factors as they pertain to buyer behavior in multiple contexts, including explaining apparently paradoxical buyer behavior among Koreans and examining drivers of satisfaction with industrial goods across markets. The final set of chapters examines a truly hot topic in international buyer behavior research: interactive marketing in international contexts. Papers in these chapters examine current issues such as developing loyalty to on-line communities, reactions to mobile gaming and banner advertisements, and cross-national differences in website structure.

                            Book Description

Hospitals worldwide command the majority of any countries health care budget. Reasons for these higher costs include the aging of the population requiring more intensive health care treatments provided in hospitals, the relatively high costs of labor in this labor intensive industry and payment systems that may encourage inefficient behavior on the part of hospital managers and physicians. Governments are seeking to instruments to mitigate this cost rise. Liberalizing hospital markets, deregulation, changing budget systems and changing ownership are only a few examples of attempts to make hospitals more efficient.

Hospital industry responds in various ways to changing market conditions and legislation. In most western hospital markets we observe hospital consolidation, acquisitions, mergers and the founding of several types of network and hospital associations. The question is whether this trend also contributes to more efficiency.

In this volume a number of outstanding internationally known scholars in the field of productivity measurement and health economics provide the reader with an excellent insight in the complexity of the issue. They explain that there is no straightforward panacea or recipe for the issues addressed. It is shown that the composition of the demand for care, the economic context, environmental and geographical conditions affect the outcomes. Policymakers should therefore take these nuances into account. A policy of increasing productivity starts with knowledge and insights in the complexity of the issue. The book therefore advocates the development of a strategy of collecting relevant data and conducting academic research that meet the standard of the state of the art. The book provides two illustrative examples of such a strategy in Finland and Australia.

The authors have avoided as much as possible the technical jargon and complex mathematics and statistics involved in this research area. Therefore the book is par excellence suitable for policymakers and hospital managers, as well as for graduate students of health economics and health administration.

                              Book Description

Volume 18 of Research in Economic History contains six contributions, evenly divided between British and U.S. topics. The first discusses the use of the Charity Commission Reports as a new source for the study of British economic history. These data challenge received wisdom on crowding out during the Napoleonic Wars, the contributions of enclosures to agricultural productivity, and the role of the Glorious Revolution in establishing secure property rights. The second study revisits the more than century old debate about whether nineteenth century industrialization in Britain worsened or improved conditions for child labor. Data from the Parliamentary Papers and the censuses of 1841, 1851 and 1871 confirm high labor force participation rates for older (but not younger) children, particularly in textiles. The third paper investigates the impact of fluctuations in the weather on agricultural output in Britain, and consequently on the level of GDP. Remaining on agricultural topics, but shifting venue to the United States, the fourth essay explores the induced innovation hypothesis using state data. The authors question many of the stylized facts which have been adduced in support of the hypothesis at the national level, and argue that state level investigations permit greater sensitivity to the substantial geophysical and factor price variation within the boundaries of the United States. The fifth paper examines the role of the National Banking System in reducing exchange rate variations (deviations from par) within the United States. The final contribution considers the impact of the introduction of two parallel but completely separate telegraph systems on the operation of U.S. financial markets.

This volume consists of original research articles examining timely issues in financial services, asset pricing, and hedging. The articles in the first part of the volume deal with methods for assessing the safety and soundness of banks, rationales for and economic consequences of bank mergers, valuation effects of lender environmental liability, option-theoretic explanations of the closed-end mutual fund discount, and contingent-claims analysis of price-matching refunds. Articles in the second part of the volume study consumption smoothing and the equity premium puzzle, the yield spread of tax-deductible preferred stock, fitting a jump-diffusion model of currency futures options, duration effects on hedge ratios of currency futures, and dynamics between foreign exchange and stock markets in Southeast Asian economies.

The archival collection has two parts. The first presents correspondence between the American economist, Alfred S. Eichner, and the English economist, Joan Robinson, and related documents. The correspondents were major contributors to Post Keynesian economics in terms of both ideas and creating self-consciousness. The second presents hitherto unpublished correspondence and documents pertaining to the nature, rise and limits of quantitative methodology in economics. The materials are from Wesley C. Mitchell, Henry Schultz, and Arthur F. Burns. They examine many issues that remain in contention today.

                                        Book Description

The three books making up Volume 18 of "Research in the History of Economic Thought and Methodology" are an illustration of the goals of this series: offering a platform for both original research as well as for selections of hitherto unpublished archival materials on history of economic thought and methodology. In Volume 18-A, the research annual, the Editors Professors Warren J. Samuels and Jeff E. Biddle succeeded in assembling an excellent selection of papers on a broad range of topics. The two archival volumes edited by Warren J. Samuels, contain selections of materials that can be considered elementary to the establishment of American Economics (Volume 18-B) in the late nineteenth century, and Twentieth Century Economics in general (Volume 18-C).
