Customer Reviews:
Ok for some, not Ok for others..........2003-07-14
I purchased this for school (of course) for a really speedy condensed course on Accounting. If you have a GOOD teacher that can explain this material in layman's terms PLUS use this book as an example, then this is a great book to reflect/study the lectures & do the excercises. I think a person COULD study this on their own but they must like to work out logic problems and have the patience to figure out what is wrong when the problems don't balance.
The CD program that makes spreadsheet that comes along with this is stupid. What a person can do on the program is limited(e.g. put in your own date, make transactions active...)BUT the GREAT THING ABOUT IT IS that you don't have to make pages of SPREADSHEETS. Punch in numbers and DONE! QUICK!
The tutorial CD made the steps of accounting easier to understand. Clear.
I was afraid of taking accounting because it sounded BORING but when I took this class and read the book, it became clear and easy (to me). The people that didn't get good grades were either not absorbing the material(boring attitude all the way!),practicing the problems(who has time to do that when you can go SURF), and didn't ask questions (who wants to hang at school?).
I think a person needs to take time to practice and absorb the material to actually figure it out.
Book is just too hard to comprehend.......2002-12-31
This book has its high points. The exercises are to the point and easy to understand, but yet somewhat hard to do. However, the text has the problem many accounting books I have seen have, that is the fact it contains too many in-text examples and not enough to the point study points for someone who just needs to know the principals for quick and easy studying. If a course you are in requires this book you best go looking for an additional study manual for study help.
Not good for self study.......2001-10-18
I am taking a course which uses this book. The book is written well but there is no answer key in the book for the problems. There is no way to get feedback on the exercises. Even the practice question in the chapters do not have answers.
Personal Education!.......2001-08-26
I purchased this book because I wanted to learn more about accounting. I am finding very helpful. I find easy to read and like the examples that it has. I like all the exercises and problems it has at the end of each chapter, they help by allowing you to practice the new knowledge you have read in the chapter.

Footprint gets you around.......2007-01-12
My wife and I checked almost every India travel guide book that is sold in the USA. We took three travel guides with us to India but the footpring was the only one to return.
Its descriptions aids the reader in visting a site. It guides you as a (semi) independent travel in exploring the sites and how to navigate through them. Other travel guides have similar descriptions of the sites, but they do not tell the travelar where to go. This works fine if you have a guide (but then why bother with a travel guide book), but is not helpful as an independent travelar.
It also had great pre-prep suggestions on who to contact for booking your independent trip.

Book Description
This practical and inspirational handbook touches on every aspect of Ayurveda, a traditional healing system of India, for beginners, and serves as a refresher course for more seasoned students. Written by one of the world's leading Ayurveda practitioners and teachers, this guide offers a complete overview and lays out the principal areas of the system—involving eight branches that include medicine, toxicology, and geriatrics—in ways that are easy to follow yet not oversimplified. The author outlines the history, terminology, and practice, and includes a glossary of terms and a well-researched treatment section. The book also contextualizes Ayurveda within Buddhism, and recommends therapies and the herbs and plants that best accompany them.
Customer Reviews:
One of the best introductions to ayurveda,.......1999-05-01
I am an alternative practitioner and have been interested in ayurveda for a number of years. Out of the numerous books I have explored in the field, this has to be one of the most concise introductions. The first few chapters lay the foundation to what turned out to be a very fascinating read. The book demonstrates the importance of ayurveda in a modern lifestyle which makes it all the more relevant in this day and age. Included are numerous case studies and preactical tips. The book is well illustrated and included contact details for further information.
An excellent introduction.......1999-04-08
This is an absolutely fantastic introduction to the complexities of ayurveda. The narration is clear and concise and more importantly it is easily accessible to those with little or no understanding of the subject. From the outset Dr Godagama highlights the importance of ayurveda in the modern western world, and provides practical advice and tips which can be incorporated into the modern lifetsyle. In addition, throughout the book Dr.Godagama's draws on his own personal wealth of experience in treating patients with numerous conditions, stemming from irritable bowel syndrome to diabetes. This is a must read book for anyone requiring an easy to understand introduction to this fascinating science.....I found it a pleasure to read.

An essential pick for any comprehensive reference library........2007-04-10
Any high school or college-level library serious about world study references should have Pakistan: A Global Studies Handbook in their collection. It surveys the history, culture, politics and social issues of the country offering a basic reference of the people, places and events which are essential to know, and a series of articles which reinforces facts about the nation's peoples. PAKISTAN considers the foundations and institutions of the country: it provides the specifics missing from more general regional titles and thus is an essential pick for any comprehensive reference library.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent guide book.......2007-02-09
The Footprint series are great for getting background and cultural information about the destinations. It provides detailed information about the hot places to be, where to avoid and a true insiders guide to each city. This is a lot more detailed and seemingly more accurate than the Lonely Planet guides.
The one thing it lacks is details of hotels and restaurants. It simply lists them without reviews or justified ratings. My suggestion: travel with two books. Get the Lonley Planet for hotels and restaurants. Get the Footprint series for real life details of your destination.
One example: Footprint gives information like [paraphrasing] 'the registered guides are only allowed on the left side of the entrance of the fort; the local, but frequently better guides, stay on the right'. Details like that make you feel confident in your travels.
where is Gujarat?.......2007-02-09
I bought the book, two day delivery, because I am going to Gujarat in ten days. I went through the book, looked through the index, etc., but aside from a piece on the map, could not find material on Gugarat. My invoice and your title clearly says Footprint Rajasthan (Footprint Rajasthan and Gujarat Handbook) by Matt Barrett. The title on the book is Footprint Rajasthan by Matt Barrett.
Needless to say, I'm very disappointed. I was going to give it a 3 because the quality of the book is good, but because I was looking for Gujarat and felt this was all very misleading, I'm giving it a one, since there's no zero.
good choice.......2006-11-03
The guidebook is useful and detailed. It does not contain a lot of practical information, but the cultural background is excellent.

Customer Reviews:
To India and back!.......2007-03-26
I spent several weeks in 2004 traveling through India using only this guide. The hotel listings were very helpful and even a relative that accompanied me on my travels (who is a cosmopolitan native) was impressed at the hotels we found for very reasonable rates and convenient locations. I always asked to view the room before checking in because my standards vary from their standards, but this book gave me a great headstart on which hotels to visit. If I didn't agree with their recommendation, I always found a similar hotel. It is a bit thin on the history and culture, for which I suggest a Fodor's.
better to buy another guidebook.......2005-04-17
i am in india right now and am so thankful that i have also the rough guide and do wish i had a lonely planet, not footprint. this book is lacking: not enough hotel listings with prices, restaurants with prices, cost of transportation, misses details of "before you go"/"things a traveller must know", nor does it give enough information about the locations it covers - better to buy lonely planet and the rough guide.
Truly Top-Notch.......2005-01-31
I spent two months backpacking through India in the summer of 2003, and the Footprint guide was tremendous. I also brought the Rough Guide to India, but Footprint was much more useful (though both blew away Lonely Planet!).
There is great coverage of smaller towns in all regions of the country, something that is invaluable if you're spending an extended period of time in the country. Almost every time I'd be overnighting in some obscure town as part of a bus journey, I'd at least find a paragraph or two, which saved the day more than once.
The maps are great. The most readable I've seen in any guidebook. The detailed maps of the whole country in the back were extremely useful.
The background section was also the most in-depth I've seen among India guidebooks. Very good.
All in all, this is definitely the best guidebook to use for India. One of the biggest benefits of it though, is that it isn't very popular. If Lonely Planet says a place is cheap, you can guarantee they've quadrupled their price since then. Footprint India really helps you stay off the beaten tourist path... I rarely had encounters with other travellers... almost all of my time was spent with locals, and the Footprint guide is definitely geared towards that. Most of the hotels reviewed aren't backpacker-focused (though those are there), but are mostly used by locals travelling for various reasons.
Highly recommended!
Forget Lonely Planet - this is the one necessary guide .......2005-01-19
Great introduction to the regions and their attractions? Check. Detailed descriptions of even the smallest places of interest? Check. Quick but practical hotel and restaurant ratings? Check. In-depth information on history, politics, geology and landscape, vegetation, including crops, wildlife, religion, culture, festivals, economy? Check! Extensive information on getting around, routes from A to B (and many alternatives), trekking, air and train travel, cycling etc? Check.
This guide really has everything you need, practical and educational - and in a very practical little package to boot (hard cover, small size, paper-thin pages to avoid too much bulk). The authors' biographies are revealing: one of them is a bona fide expert, a professor of South Asian Geography at the School of Oriental and African Studies. It's that kind of company you need to get a grip on a country like India. And you usually don't get it - most guidebooks are written by people who are simply more experienced in travel than your average joe, but have no in-depth knowledge of the country.
What it lacks, compared to Lonely Planet/Rough Guides is a chummy, get-a-load-of-this tone. Unadorned information me seem dry to some, but to others it is a relief compared to guides whose authors assume you share their prejudices. For instance, hotel listings are terse. A typical entry reads: "Category E, 130 rooms, some A/C (better rm on upper floor),restaurant (Indian veg.) rec; reasonably clean but gets crowded and noisy"
It's worth looking through other guidebooks if you want restaurant and hotel listings fleshed out for you. But if you only carry one guidebook to India, let it be this one.
