Customer Reviews:
Very informative.......2007-07-03
I ordered three face reading books to try to get as much information as I could. This book by far was the best. She adds a bunch of humor. This book is very well written and easy to read. I recommend this to all who are curious about what the face means. I am very pleased.
Useful and Insightful.......2005-12-10
After reading The Power of Face Reading, I am shocked by the response from "Almost Useless". In her book Rosetree asserts that we all have various challenges as well as styles with which we excell at, and I think Rosetree does an excellent job of expressing our different styles for work, spending money, communication, etc. with great compassion and depth. This is not a "too positive spin on every negative interpretation"; it's more a realistic way of looking at our strenghts and weaknesses.
I also firmly disagree with "Almost Useless"'s assertion that some of the interpretations are "just inaccurate." I have done many readings after reading the book, for friends and people that I've just met, and everyone remarks how surprisingly accurate they are! Rosetree also points out that the traits of our face reveal our propensity for a certain style of being. We are all human and can choose to behave in other ways as we choose. Knowing what are preferences are can help us use them with more strength, and to also gain understanding for the strengths and propensities of others. Brilliant for relationships!
In terms of "putting it all together" for doing face readings, I found this to be no problem. Like I said, I started doing readings for friends and new people I met right away. Rosetree also explicity states to set an intention to be of service, and begin with the features that strike you the most, and then notice what you notice next and go from there. This is what I've adhered to and what has made my readings so successful.
Lastly, I would be cautious with the review titled "Gems for Tabliod and Intellectuals." I might chuckle at these having not read the book. Rosetree's book provides much more depth than these quotes reveal. The book shows us that there are many ways to be in the world, and the beauty is that we can choose. I find it powerfully useful to know my style preferences at my very core.
The best of the best!.......2005-12-03
I know this book. I know this author. Rose Rosetree is a woman of the highest integrity and she is a great force. She's been on this path for many years, researching ancient studies and particularly refining the hidden traits found in faces. Each one of her books is a gift. But the wisdom contained in this one, The Power of Face Reading, showers the reader with clues and tips on discovering the very essence of, say, co-workers, first dates, celebrities, politicians -- any person with whom you might come face to face. For those with a sense of wonder and a hunger to know more, this is an easy read.
Amazing insights.......2005-12-02
I found this book, like all the ones I've read by Rose Rosetree, to be witty, insightful, and very useful. When reading this book, keep in mind that reading faces isn't just a formula, which is a point that Ms. Rosetree makes. The whole face needs to be considered, since it is a reflection of the soul as a whole. I use face reading often, and it's amazing how accurate it is. In addition to the companion book WRINKLES ARE GOD'S MAKEUP, I strongly suggest reading AURA READING THROUGH ALL YOUR SENSES. Combining aura reading with face reading is a very powerful tool and provides a far more complete picture.
Almost useless.......2005-05-02
The author tries so hard not to offend anybody, that she puts too positive spin on every possibly negative interpretation and overemphasizes what would already be considered as a positive one. Also, I found the most interpretations just inaccurate. Examples from nose chapter:
short nose - workaholic
long nose - talent for planning and strategy
straight nose - you work systematically
arched nose - creativity
...
Ok, of course you are supposed to interpret everything and put it all together, eliminating contradictions on the way, but the book falls short on instructions how to do that. There should be a chapter titled "putting it together" where the author should explain the process of face reading: what to look first? how to determine basic information about a person and go from there? Instead the book focuses on details without giving you the big picture.

Best Serial Killer Book Ever.......2007-06-09
I knew very little about Coral Watts other than from a show I caught about him on A&E. When I found out about this book I had to get a copy right away. I could not have been luckier. This book is phenomenal.
Instead of starting off with a dead body like 99% of the true crime books out there, this starts off with an escape. I was hooked instantly with the struggles of the amazingly brave Melinda Aguilar.
From there I learned great detail about a lot of wonderful young women with untold amounts of potential. Sadly, none of that would be realized as they were all destroyed by America's most vicious serial killer, Coral Watts.
The author goes into great detail about Watts's life and what led him to become a killer. It's fascinating because Watts does not fit the serial killer mold. He is black, well-liked, and does not have many issues as far as his child-rearing was concerned.
This book is not only about the serial killer. It is also about so many people whose lives were touched, and sometimes destroyed by Watts. despite the large number of victims presented here, I was never confused nor did I feel like I did not learn enough about the women. Also, this book is about two strong women who never knew one another until they had run-ins with Watts. The author shows how these two normally reserved women stood up and made sure a serial killer would stay behind bars forever.
The writing in this book is terse, emotional, and evocative. Ignore the negative review below that tries to slam the writing. That is a ludicrous claim. This is easily the best-written, most suspenseful, and heartbreaking true crime book to come out in years.
Evil Eyes.......2007-04-19
I loved this book! I could NOT set it down until it was finished! Im so happy that mr watts is still behind bars to this day, for he is a danger ,and a menace to society! bravo Corey! keep up the good work, I really enjoy your books.....

EXCELLENT true crime book! .......2007-04-17
In the typical Cory Mitchell style, this is a page turner that's difficult to put down once you've started reading it.
I was not very familiar with the Coral Eugene Watts case other than an occasional headline I'd catch. Little did I know before reading this book that Watts is quite possibly one of the most horrific - if not THE most horrific and worst serial killer in American history.
The author has the talent and writing style that brings out a variety of emotions in the reader. As the author takes us from crime scene to crime scene, the readers are not just horrified as the body count rises, but start to feel emotion for the victims who are humanized.. brought to life by the author.. which is so important in grasping the magnitude of such a horrific case.
It doesn't stop there as the reader is introduced to heroes of the story who keep feelings of hope alive.. the loved ones of the victims who worked to keep this serial killer behind bars as the readers are taken through a justice system that is sure to outrage and frustrate.
Feeling horrified, frightened, sadness, frustrated, outraged, hopeful... this book has it all and written in a way that will keep you wanting to read on.. and even think about when your not reading it.
Obviously well researched, this book is brilliantly written to keep the reader fascinated.
Thanks for another great book Corey Mitchell!!
Better Than Ann Rule! --- Capotesque.......2006-11-07
Corey Mitchell is easily the best-true crime author out there today. Actually, he has been since his first book "Hollywood Death Scenes".
"Evil Eyes" is his latest masterpiece about the brutal serial killer, Coral Eugene Watts. Watss is a rarity as he is an African-American serial killer. He also crossed races and mainly killed white women. A profiler's nightmare! Mitchell's writing always invokes a sense of dread and terror that most modern true crime writers can even dream of. Furthermore, he writes about the victims in such a lively and empathetic way that you feel as if these girls were your own best friend, sister, or daughter. Not to be overlooked are the non-authority heroes of this story, which there are many. Harriet Semander, Joe Foy, Andy Kahan, Lori Lister, and especially Melinda Aguilar.
"Evil Eyes" grabs you from page one and never relents. It is true crime writing at its best.
Coral Watts should be a well known SERIAL KILLER!.......2006-07-24
I couldn't put this book down, i read it in 3 days! This is the story about Coral Eugene Watts, a fledgling serial killer that stabbed so many women, with anything he could get his hands on, stabbed horrendously some infront of their homes. This was one sick individual and it surprises me that this man got away with so much! He got away with murder for years and years! Thanks to Corey Mitchel people find out about these serial killers that aren't as well known as Charles Manson but should be! Coral watts was SICK.
Great read, at it to your collection today!

Book Description
This classic text describes the many afflictions said to result from being given the “evil eye”—as recorded in the days of the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans up to the late 19th century. A thorough study of the notion about harmful or bewitching stares, it focuses on superstition and folklore surrounding the use of gestures, amulets, incantations, and other protective acts to ward off power of the evil eye. Enhanced with hundreds of illustrations of evil-preventing charms—from the author’s personal collection—this in-depth study will appeal to students and scholars of folklore and anyone intrigued by tales of the supernatural. 199 illus.

A Treasure Trove of Charming Information.......2005-06-11
What can I say about this book? If you are Pagan or a witch of any kind, this is an indispensible resource. Written over one hundred years ago and reprinted in 2004, it contains excellent museum quality drawings of charms and history that is not prevalent in modern books on spellcrafting. Even such information as it offers as an aside to its main thesis is pertinent to anyone interested in magickal and mythical studies as well as superstitions. This is a scholarly work which does not adopt a superior attitude with readers. Though its ultimate audience was not meant to be any but folklorists and other scholars, the sheer weight of information contained in this book makes it a must have for any Pagan or Witch interested in more indepth studies than modern publishers are willing to offer us.
Books like this gem are just not being written any more.

5 Stars for Special X #5.......2005-11-26
Evil Eye is the fifth in Michael Slade's epic Special X series and from the first page it never stops moving.
The elite Special X division of the RCMP is the best group of psycho hunters in the world, but now a psycho is hunting them. He knows their methods, he knows their habits, he knows their weaknesses, and now he knows how to kill them all. Could the unthinkable be true? Could the thin red line be rotting from within? Who can the members of Special X trust if they can't trust each other?
Evil Eye takes you from the Great White North to the darkest heart of Africa in a desperate attempt to discover the secrets of Evil Eye before Special X itself becomes the final victim.
Without fail, Michael Slade crafts an ingenious story and brings all the characters to life in this mystery/thriller. His ability to continuously amaze, impress, confound, and horrify his readers secures Michael Slade position as the greatest mystery writer of our age.
Biggest ***DUD*** in the entire series!.......2005-01-27
(WARNING: Virtually ALL Slade novels are meant to be read IN ORDER. If you read a book in the series out of order, you risk learning the ENDINGS/KILLER'S IDENTITIES of/from previous novels which are probably FAR BETTER than the book you are presently reading! Slade made a fabulous start for about the first half dozen books and rapidly tapered off from there. If you haven't read the original *HEADHUNTER*, BUY IT(!!!) and START THERE! Keep them IN ORDER and you'll do fine!)
Down and dirty: Michael Slade/The Slade group has done some absolutely BRILLIANT work.
THIS AIN'T IT FOLKS!!!
Right off the bat, this book FELT wrong compared to those before it. The distant past historical events tied to present day mayhem formula was in place, but not quite working up to the usual standards. Slade (Jay Clark) is virtually untouchable in using dark, claustrophobic prose to effectively draw unsettling pictures in the reader's minds. In this case, the battle of Rourke's Drift was superbly laid out in minute detail to the point where I felt like I was there in the bloody middle of it! It was THAT realistically written!
Unfortunately... the main plot about the framing of Nick Craven for murder can't remotely hold a candle to the Rourke's Drift aside.
There's a "hook" about the birth of twins and the father's subsequent suicide, but that was "easy pickins" for many, if not most, of us I'm afraid. Once the hook is uncovered, your suspect list dwindles noticably and - try as we might - there is no way to legitimately deduce WHICH of the remaining suspects is the psycho.
And there's a good reason that we can't... Slade apparently just flat didn't know how to end the book - so he simply chose one of remaining suspects' name at random and simply said 'Okay, the killer IS ______. The end."
The basic fun of great mysteries is being able to compete with the writer over solutions and identity. The GREATEST FUN of great mysteries is being LEGITIMATELY BEATEN by a great writer!
There is NO FUN HERE! Read and enjoy ALL the Slade novels PRIOR to this - but AVOID EVIL EYE LIKE THE PLAGUE!
One hell of a read.......2003-03-14
This book is 400 pages long. And in those 400 pages, there is enough sheer chaos in this book for three novels of this length.
Slade sometimes gets a bit too verbose, but one thing you can always count on is that things will be nothing short of anarchy with his settings and plots. And while there were a few characters that really could have been left out of this book, I was absoulutely blown away by how cunning, manipulative, and relentless Evil Eye (the main villain) was in this book.
Michael Slade has an amazing gift as a writer - he makes you want to root for the bad guys because they're so darn cool. This is one of those books.
Don't waste your time.......2002-05-03
This book is hard to follow, as it jumps around a lot in time - starting in Africa in 1879 and jumping forward to the 1990s in Vancouver, Canada. There are too many plot twists. I finished the book because I was bored and had nothing else to read, otherwise I'd have stopped about a third of the way through. By the end I didn't really care who the killer was, I was just glad the book was done. I haven't read other books by Michael Slade, and this one doesn't inspire me to seek out any others by him.
A new friend in an old series.......2002-03-08
I was happy to see Slade pick a new character for the main spotlight, this time around pushing Nick Craven forward as the center of attention. As always, several plotlines are blended amazingly well .... This time around the flashback scenes involve the Zulu Wars, and it's nice to see Slade can handle action on an epic scale as well as the one-on-one murder scenes. You might get an idea who/what the killer is ahead of time, but in the end the identity isn't even close to what you expect. All in all another fine Special X book, although it's not like this series has ever let me down.

Book Description
Two magical families live in the hardscrabble town of Stonefort, Maine: the shape shifting Morgans and the Haskell witches. But evil is coming to Stonefort. A drug lord and frighteningly powerful sorcerer covets the Morgans' alliance with the magical being known as the Dragon. Now 17-year-old Gary Morgan must claim his heritage and save his family. But first, he will have to master the power of the Dragon-and he'll need the help of the Haskell witches to do it. Somehow, the Haskells and the Morgans must overcome their differences before the sorcerer assumes the power of the Dragon and destroys them all.
Customer Reviews:
Great series opener.......2007-01-18
Stonefort is a quiet community ruled by legend and two strong clans. The Haskell Witches, mostly women, live in The House, an ancient structure that has a life of its own and hardly tolerates either men or electricity. The Morgans, are descendents of pirates, but the family has other secrets--Ben, the head, has been legally dead for years, but is still around to keep the money supply going. Oh yes, and they shapeshift into seals.
When an evil bruja threatens their community, Alice Haskell and Kate Rowley must band together to put a stop to it. The women are beautifully realized, the action is fast and the fantasy is well worth reading.
This was my first James Hetley book, but I'm a fan.......2005-12-18
Very few books have the ability to keep me engrossed until 4 am. James Hetley's Dragon's EYe did just that. At first I thought this would be a light contemporary fantasy but as the story unfolded, I was stunned at Mr. Hetley's ability to give the reader multi-layered characters that just jumped off the page. I'm going to run, not walk, to the bookstore and pick up everything I can from this talented voice in fantasy fiction.
James Hetley .... more please!.......2005-11-07
He takes truth and sews it together with mysticism and fantasy in a thoroughly enchanting way.
urban fantasy is as good as it gets.......2005-11-02
The town of Stonefort in Sunrise County, Maine is anything but ordinary although at first glance it looks like a typical New England village. Two prominent families are involved in two different forms of magic. The Morgans have a connection with the magical entity known as the Dragon whose tears turn into the jewels that are worn around the necks of the Morgans so she can see what they can see. They can also communicate with one another. They have the ability to turn into seals and are able to call on the Dragon's magic.
The Haskells are practicing witches with the head of each generation living at Haskell House called The Woman. This is a refuge for women in trouble and they stand guard over the town of Stonefort. The Pratts, drug smugglers and all around criminals are working with the Peruvian drug lord Don Antonio who happens to be a powerful sorcerer. Daniel Morgan becomes Antonio's prisoner as the evil sorcerer wants to use the Dragon in his illegal activities. It falls to Daniel's son Gary, his half sister Caroline and the Haskell witch to save everyone and destroy the sorcerer without getting killed.
This urban fantasy is as good as it gets. The story is told from the views of many characters so readers come to know and understand the main players though that can be a bit overwhelming. The audience will like Gary who matures over the course of the challenge as many revelations are thrown at him yet he still does his best to save his loved ones. James A Hetley needs to write more books featuring the magical town of Stonefort.

a pleasure to read.......1999-05-25
Ulmer's book has become a standard reference work on the topic of the "evil eye" in antiquity. Ulmer systematically researched the corpus of rabbinic literature and cites hundreds of references. According to the Rabbis, the course of Jewish history was affected by the "evil eye". Some Rabbis used an evil eye to reduce their opponents to "a heap of bones." Ulmer's explanations of the phenomena encountered are superb. It is a pleasure to read her excellent book. In short, Ulmer is a fine scholar of midrash and rabbinic literature.

PCI Express System Architecture.......2007-10-02
The book is well organized. The illustrative examples are very helpful. The contents of the book follow the specification very well but much better organized.
well written and complete but a little dated.......2007-09-08
this book was written before the pci express standard was ratified so much of the information is speculative. nevertheless, it is well written and complete.
Perfect reference for PCIe newbie.......2007-07-19
I have 2 PCEe books and this one is the best one. I don't have any experience on PCI and PCI-X. This books really have a lot of basic stuff which is very good for PCIe beginners.
comprehensive.......2007-04-03
It's huge, and slow going, but the book is quite detailed and generally clear explaining the concepts.
Best quality.......2007-03-13
I have got a brand new book for price of a used book. Without any damage, with very good binding it's a satisfactory purchase.
Product Description
This is the only book currently available that includes all of the information from XE "PCI Express:specifications" /r "pciexpressspecifications" PCI Express Base Specification Revision 1.1 and PCI Express Card Electromechanical Specification Revision 1.1. Any design and software will be incomplete and possibly incorrect if not compliant to revision 1.1 of this specification. The 1st ed of this book was The Complete PCI Express Ref published by Intel press. For the specifications this resulted in revision 1.1 and for the Intel press book this resulted in this totally revamped second edition. Included is a complete tutorial of PCI Express basics on CD-ROM. All other books are simply incomplete or outdated. There are two secondary specifications related PCI Express: PCI Express to PCI/PCI-X Bridge Specification Revision 1.0 and PCI Express Mini Card Electromechanical Specification Revision 1.1. These specifications in conjunction with the PCI Local Bus Specification 3.0, PCI BIOS Specification Revision 2.1, and the aforementioned PCI Express specifications represent all the design information required for basic PCI Express design. The PCI Local Bus Specification 3.0 provides information about hardware components that are the basis for a lot of the PCI Express hardware design. To maintain software compatibility with PCI, the software model for PCI Express is modeled after PCI. Consequently, the PCI BIOS Specification Revision 2.1 in conjunction with the PCI Local Bus Specification provides all the information for software development on a PCI Express platform. This 2nd ed is over 1120 pages and provides the only comprehensive and detailed info available beyond the specs. In the CD-ROM there are 192 additional pages of associated PCI Express information. In addition, the CD-ROM contains tutorials to assist in quickly learning the basics of PCI Express.
Customer Reviews:
Focus on protocols.......2006-11-14
The binding is very poor, plastic type. It is difficult to open and to turn the pages. Some chapters are on print and some are on CD-ROM. It would be much better if the entire book was on CD-ROM. Also page numbers on paper and PDF overlaps.
The book almost exclusively deals with PCI Express protocols and signalling. The chapter on physical and electrical characteristics is very brief and does not mention ExpressCard. The description of PCI Express Mini Card is not up to date. This book does not replace the need to aquire the official ExpressCard standard documents.
Great content with pool print quality.......2005-07-01
The content of this book is excellent ! I had read the PCIE specification 1.0A before. But do not have clear view of the specification. It is a pain to read the specification directly, and make me fall into sleep quickly.
This book gives detailed explain to each important concept of PCI Express. And the author gives definition of each term in this book. More important, this book is not another "specification copier". The author do introduce PCI express concept in human language. Now I could understand the PCI express architecture and internal operation. For me, it is worth to spend US$90 for this book (contain the delivery cost.).
I give 4 stars, because I do not like its print and construction quaility. As previous review stated, the book size is a little too small. And I hope the construction would be a little better. I think I will have to refer this book many times, and hope it could stay as "one" book longer. I would expect the print quaility as the same as the "Windows internals 4th ed.". I never have to concern the "Windows Internal 4th ed." damaged while I read. But when read the PCI Express Design & System, I do worry it. If it is cost conecern, I would like to pay more US$10-20 to get better print edition.
If you looking for a book to understand PCI express, buy it. You might complain the print quality as me. But knowledge is more important than the print quality. And it will save you much time to dig into the PCIE specification.
DO NOT BUY!!!!!!.......2005-05-10
Okay this stupid book is cheaply made. The text is small, the diagrams are poorly drawn, and the most important is that the binding is incredibly cheap. As soon as i opened the book the binding cracked and the first pages started to fall out.
Since i am a designer and need a reference book, this one will be worthless since it will fall apart and not last. Buy the Mindshare book.
I want a refund....
PCI EXPRESS Design and System Architecture.......2005-03-16
I used the earlier books on PCI Express based on the earlier revisions of the specification {1.0a}. I am surprised how much better this book is than any of the other books, beyond just the updates for revision 1.1 of the specification. The other books seem to just restate the same basic explanation of the specifications and use the same figures found in the specification. This book is the only one I have found that provides more detailed diagrams that are not in the specification.
I that I was new to PCI Express I first used the tutorials on the CR-ROM. These were very helpful in getting me up to speed and provided the proper focus for reading the book.
I have been using the layer processing diagrams that permitted me to trace step by step how to process each packet type. It is something that the specification did not provide in any reasonable fashion. I was also very impressed by the summary tables and discussion of the addressing and routing within the PCI Express system. It is clear the authors spent time understanding the specification and then wrote this book from scratch with an engineer's point of view. The book's authors also took the time to create figures and tables that should have been in the specification. For some reason the specification writers did not take the time to provide good clear figures and tables.
This book is tailored to the hardware IC designer, system (hardware and software) architect, and software driver writer. For mechanical board layout and packaging engineer it refers back to the specification.
PCI Express Design & System Architecture.......2005-03-08
Reading the specification I could not understand the flow control credit design. I got this book and it had an excellent discussion on flow control credits that is just not available in the specification. The book is a lot more of course, here are some highlights.
The book is organized so previous PCI Express knowledge is not needed and PCI Express knowledge is build for the reader chapter by chapter. The first part of the book reviews the basic differences between PCI and PCI Express, and provides concise figures showing possible platform architectures. These are important topics the specification never clearly discusses. The first part of the book also provides great discussions of the addressing and routing protocols used by PCI Express. Again the specification's discussion of these topics is scattered all over the specification, not nicely summarized as done in the book. The next few chapters cover in detail the format of the different packets used by the different PCI Express hardware layers. The detail of these chapters allows me to know the definition and values of the fields of the packets for the different types of transactions. The specification is very hard to follow the text about packets
The next chapter is for layer processing and errors. This is a strong chapter for the book and reflects the greatest weakness for specification. The specification does not provide a comprehensive and clear discussion on processing the different types of packets. Also, the specification scatters the error conditions all over the place. The book is excellent in providing complete flow charts to process both correct and incorrect (error) packets.
There are several chapters on flow control. As I mentioned above the flow control credit section was excellent. The rest of these chapters covers all aspects of flow control that comprehensively integrates all of the concepts. There are also chapters on power management, hot plug, and of particular note link states. The specification does a very poor job on the link states. The book does a more traditional and excellent job with flow charts and next state tables. In fact the next state tables are so extensive, it appears they were placed in the CD-ROM to prevent book from being another 100 print pages.
The last part of the book provides a detailed discussion about the software requirements. I am not a software person so I can only judge that it seems to be a complete discussion. Finally, there is also a tutorial in the CDROM. I lent the CDROM to another engineer who told me it was a great tutorial to get up to speed quickly on PCI Express. Thus, for all of the above I would strongly recommend this book.
