A memorable passage from The Art of the Dragonlance Saga explains the saga's birth in 1984: "The god who began to envision the possibility of this world in his mind was the God of Marketing. This god ascended from his mighty throne one day in early 1983 and announced that he had done a survey. And, according to the survey, people who played the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS® game wanted more dragons."
And more dragons they got. The prolific and extraordinarily popular writing duo of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman produced a veritable treasure trove of books telling of the heroic exploits and dastardly deeds of the denizens of their fantasy world. The Art of the Dragonlance Saga, long out of print, collects all the art from the novels, calendars, and game products that the God of Marketing created. This is an extremely rich collection, with sketches, paintings, drawings, and studies of beloved characters and settings. It is also full of artist's notes, character development, and explanations of the ways in which the books and the art coevolved. A must-have for Dragonlance fans, The Art of the Dragonlance Saga is also wonderful eye candy for all swords and sorcery fans. --Therese Littleton
Customer Reviews:
Amazing!.......2004-06-05
I have to agree with the other reviews on this book, it's a MUST have at any price.
The art from the early Dragonlance covers has always been some of my favorite fantasy art, and this book dives deeper in the vaults to bring out art that if you're like me might never have seen. Some of the art is from the dragonlance calandars, posters, etc. This book will leave you with a deep appriciation for Larry Elmore and the other great artists who've done these covers.
The art of my name!.......2003-01-11
I was born with the name of Raistlin.. naturally i would want to see the character i was named after. This book provided me with the start to my passion with Dragon Lance.
It goes into detail and explains everything (how the dragon riders stay on the dragons etc.).
I have one copy and so does my Dad, but mine has pages missing from when he used them as posters. I want another copy but it depends how much i am willing to pay on e bay.
This book is worth getting for a price such as £50.
Enjoy.
Excellent, excellent book!.......2002-03-04
This book is worth every penny I paid to get it. It includes a short story about how the Dragonlance epic came to be, the four original color roughs (by Larry Elmore), sketches of the dragonlance and saddle and how to use it, sketches and pictures of the many types of draconians, armor and weapons, beautiful oil and acrylic pictures, a little history and pictures of the Heroes of the Lance, pictures and history of minor characters such as Lord Lorac, the elven king, and much, much more! This book is a must-have for any Dragonlance collector. You won't be disappointed!
Lavish selection of TSR's best works.......2000-04-30
This gorgeous book is one of the finest compendiums of TSR artwork ever created - it is loaded full of hundreds of illustrations, free of print, on glossy paper; included are every piece of full-color artwork ever created for Dragonlance (up through 1987), supplemented with rich text and many, many concept sketches that appear nowhere else! For Dragonlance afficionados, or those who appreciated classic art by Easley, Caldwell, Parkinson, Elmore, and more, this is the ideal collection.
Wonderfully Organized! Beautifully Presented!.......1999-07-05
This was an absolutely beautifully laid out book. It contains 'round 40 full color full page prints of paintings of the dragonlance saga. Along with the prints there is also background info. on how the artists put the images together, along with an intriguing storyline that ran with the images. An absolutely fantastic book... can't say much more about it!

A Neophyte's Perspective.......2007-06-27
While I'm not a computer security specialist, by any means, nor do I even
have a lot of in depth knowledge regarding computers in general, I was
surprised at how much I did understand, and also at the fact that I did learn quite a bit. The authors' intended audience obviously was not a neophyte such as myself, but even a beginner can find many aspects of computer security interesting and eye opening. Stopping often to look up
words and ideas that appeared Martian,(to this super-neophyte,) I laud the authors' clear and succinct writing style.
Nice look at Unix forensics!.......2006-09-01
I must admit that some parts of this book are "over my head". However, this book packs quite a punch with much insight into forensics and explanations that are detailed and accompanied by MANY practical examples. The authors do a fine job of making this book interesting and they actually keep it rather short (believe me, most books on the subject are). One possible flaw is that I'd probably prefer for it to have a bit more theory and a bit less practical examples.
Forensic Discovery is a great resource.......2005-07-04
I read forensic discovery last week on the plane home from San Francisco. After a few chapters I was hooked and could barely put it down to eat. This book is absolutely recommended for anyone at all interested in security concepts as well as system administrators or anyone who would need to understand the way that information exists and persists on computer systems.
More informative than books twice its size.......2005-05-17
This book is full of information on every single step involved in forensic incident response. I've had articles published on this same topic, and found this book informative above and beyond my prior research and industry experience. If you haven't had much IR experience on the UNIX side, you need this book.
Superb forensics book on evidence discovery.......2005-04-20
I enjoyed the book ("Forensic Discovery") since it came when I was preparing for my SANS forensics certification (GCFA). Obviously, the "household" names on the cover caught my attention as well. I used TCT and other tools created by the authors and thus my expectations for the book were pretty high. It did deliver! I picked up a whole lot of tidbits on file system forensics as well as malware and compromised system investigation. Unlike some other volumes, this book does not seek to be comprehensive; instead, it focuses on the fun things and focuses on them well.
In particular, I liked authors' ideas and tips on the OOV (order of volatility) of evidence. While not new, they are extremely well-presented in the book. Other highly useful sections were the ones on time stamps and their analysis and file deletion analysis (with thorough persistence of deleted file analysis). I did not like the sections on malware analysis that much, likely because some other book go way more in-depth then this one (like, for example recent Szor's book on viruses).
The book mostly covers Unix, Windows is also mentioned a couple of times.

Book Description
As elected coroners were replaced by medical examiners with scientific training, the American public became fascinated with their work. From the grisly investigations showcased on highly rated television shows like CSI to the bestselling mysteries that revolve around forensic science, medical examiners have never been so visible—or compelling. They, and they alone, solve the riddle of suspicious death and the existential questions that come with it. Why did someone die? Could it have been prevented? Should someone be held accountable? What are the implications of ruling a death a suicide, a homicide, or an accident? Can medical examiners unmask the perfect crime?
Postmortem goes deep inside the world of medical examiners to uncover the intricate web of social, legal, and moral issues in which they operate. Stefan Timmermans spent years in a medical examiner’s office following cases, interviewing examiners, and watching autopsies. While he relates fascinating cases here, he is also more broadly interested in the cultural authority and responsibilities that come with being a medical examiner. How medical examiners speak to the living on behalf of the dead is Timmermans’s subject, revealed here in the day-to-day lives of the examiners themselves.
“Postmortem is a wake-up call to forensic pathology. . . .This book should be viewed as provocative, rather than threatening, and should be a stimulus for important discussions and action by the forensic pathology community.”—Journal of the American Medical Association
Customer Reviews:
Postmortem: How Medical Examiners Explain Suspicious Deaths (Fieldwork, Encounters and Discoveries).......2007-04-08
Not a fun read...qusi scientific with enough detail to satisfy anybody shor of a fourth year med student...lots of details such as what is the difference between a medical Examiner and a Coroner...a walk through of a autopsy of an unkown death and how the ME made critical decision as to how the person died.
The author then goes into spacific areas of interest such as suicide...infant deaths...murder and the organ tissue trade.
A criticism of this book to some might be that the author uses fictious names, places and ME's in telling his stories. Although he explain this in the preface and provides extensive notes and source material this may bother the purists among us, I didn't find it to be a problem.
Superb and fascinating.......2007-03-17
This is a superb book that examines the profession of medical examiners from a sociological perspective. The author spent several years observing the practices and methods of one (anonymous) urban medical examiner's office close-up, standing in at autopsies and conducting many interviews with all levels of staff.
The book looks at several topics in detail: coronary artery disease; shaken baby syndrome in the "Nanny Trial"; suicide; and organ and tissue donation. (I'm probably leaving something out here.)
The introduction is a tad jargony if you are not a sociologist or academic, but very interesting nonetheless. The author explains the difference between medical examiners (physicians) and coroners, who do not need any medical experience, are usually elected, and conduct public inquests. Much of the book looks at differences between various professions and explains why they may be competing with each other for authority and professional recognition. For example, forensic pathologists do not have the same goals as public health officials, as seen in the cases of coronary artery disease and suicide. Pathologists (looking at dead bodies) may come in conflict with clinicians (looking at the live patient), as seen in the case of shaken baby syndrome at criminal trials. The goals of pathologists are often at odds with those of organ and tissue donation advocates; the pathologist may need to do an exceptionally thorough autopsy in the case of a suspicious death or a homicide, while the organ donor advocate may insist that a patient in need of a liver should ethically take priority over the non-existent needs of a dead body.
The endnotes and bibliography are extensive and well worth reading.
A close-up look into just how medical examiners work.......2006-08-06
Postmortem: How Medical Examiners Explain Suspicious Deaths offers what few competitors can: a close-up look into just how medical examiners work. The author spent three years shadowing examiners to understand how they probe questionable deaths, and Postmortem covers not just the physical but the legal, social and moral issues faced by the industry. From issues of objectivity in the face of subjective evidence to influences in headline cases, Postmortem is a title not just for the general public, but especially for the college- level medical collection.

A Mysterious Book.......2006-02-21
Get ready for goosebumps! Just kidding, read the following reveiw to get a hang of what's going on.
This book is mysterious, very mysterious. At every page there's something that just pulls you to the next page. It is very hard to stop reading it because you feel just like the detectives in the story, you're waiting impatiently for a call or something like that. The only difference is that you're waiting to turn to the next page.
You wouldn't want to say "no" to getting this book. I have great emotions for this book. You would have to wait a long time for my writing to end if I wrote everything I feel for this book.
My favorite part is when they explain about the blood testing. It's really cool how the detectives find out who's guilty. I like every part of this book. If you buy this book, I suggest you read it all at the same time.
I found the other reveiw plenty enough helpful.
Wishing you a grrrrrrrrr-eat time with this fantastic book! I hope you liked my reveiw and found it helpful!
Interesting, but.......2003-05-18
I think this book will be interesting to kids who like science, mysteries, and CSI-type shows (though the book is definitely for a younger audience than CSI!). I like the way it takes the kids step by step through an investigation and gives them an idea of just how many pieces of evidence are left behind at the scene of a crime and how police are able to glean information from them. The major drawback I found as I read through the book was that it would really have helped to have had pictures of the various instruments described. For instance, it mentions several types of microscopes. For those of us who are used to seeing only the basic microscope used in a school science lab, it would have made things clearer to see how those are different from a stereoscopic microscope, an electron microscope, a comparison microscope, and a polarizing microscope. Similarly, when pictures are shown of an image from one of those microscopes, it would be helpful to have labels showing what (for example) is the hair and what is the shampoo, or what is the bark and what is the pollen.

This is the Real Deal not Fiction.......2007-08-02
If you want to know what REAL criminalists do and how they behave at a crime scene then this is the book for you. To hear what actual forensic technicians have to say about their craft in their own voices is Connie Fletcher's strength.
What makes this book so valuable is the number of experts she interviewed and the range of skills represented. Real criminalistics ain't like CSI and several of the professionals in this book want you to know it!
Interesting potpourri of bits about forensics.......2006-11-30
This is a collection of excerpts from interviews with more than 80 police officers, homicide investigators, prosecutors, defense attorneys and, most importantly, criminal forensics technicians and scientists.
There is no "story" here, no unifying theme or grand scheme. It's just bits and pieces about the underlying premise that every contact at a crime scene leaves a trace of itself. Broken into nine chapters, the book covers crime scene processing, crime scene interpretation, trace evidence, evidence from bodies, DNA, what goes on in the crime lab, the reality of cold cases and the rigors of tesifying at trials.
In a way, the treatment is almost too light, not really providing detailed information about the various forensic disciplines examined. However, that may be a blessing since many of the disciplines are very, very complex.
Instead, Fletcher allows the real-life players to talk about their work, how it fits into the criminal justice process and their own feelings about being confronted with death and mayhem. Some of the interviewees were apparently not very articulate and the excerpts could have benefited from some editing.
On the whole, Fletcher provides a solid overview of forensics in the real world and demolishes without trying the myths perpetuated by CSI and other television concoctions.
Jerry
Interesting read.......2006-11-13
This was an interesting book. It was a fascinating look into a world most of us never see. Should be required reading for criminals so they realize that the police will not give up and every crime has evidence left behind.

This is a GRAND CHAMPION.......1999-04-21
We couldn't have asked for better help when it came to finding my son a science project. The help that was given to my son on the web, e-mail, and especially through this book was a big part of him winning the Grand Champion Trophy at his elementary school science fair. We appreciated the information and help. Thanks Fingerprint Discoveries!!!!! S. Campbell
Excellent.......1999-03-18
I found this book very easy to read and understand. It is perfect for someone who is just learning to identify and classify fingerprints. The illustrations of the various fingerprint patterns were extremely helpful.
Attention Teachers! This is classic Science! Buy this book!.......1998-11-20
We discovered this book and project kit during the annual Science Fair at our school. While looking for something unique and interesting for our 7 year old to submit to the judges we came across Fingerprint Discoveries. The kit included everything we needed to submit a Science Fair project we have also donated a kit to our school for the 4 - 6th grades to use every year.
Are you disenchanted with buidling the volcano project....?spaced out on models of the solar system....? This is the book and project kit you have been looking for. Originally, we thought it would be too detailed for our first grader but we found that we could modify the project to her level and then use the book and project kit in full for the upper grade levels.
I would give this book 5 stars ***** and make sure every elementary and science teacher had one on the desk.
