I'm Matthew Low, better known on both Pojo.com as the person who techs decks and stuff like that. I wrote one of the articles in this neat book; the Videl deck, dedicated to my sister.
This is one of the best things you can get if you want some tips starting out. Of course all card game books get outdated from time to time, but this one is all you need to catch up to right before Buu Saga. People like the almighty IQ and accomplished veterans like Zeller, Williams, and Fashbinder give their ideas. Most of the people included in this book (not all) are of the greatest there are in the game; take their advice.
It helps the person wanting to start out with a bunch of nothing, like the Cheap decks, to the tournament level ones like Richie's outdated Cell Namekian. More or less the decks are still good for the most part; make sure you swing by dbzcardgame.com and find any changes that have sprung up in the last few months.
If anything, read the articles. They are by far the most useful things you can read to help you in this game. The decks will get you started. After all, this is a beginner's book. If you are ready to go to the advanced/expert level, feel free to email me (go find my address in my article ^_^) for a deck tech or some tips.
So... I say get this book, especially if you need some help in the game of DBZCCG. It has a wealth of information you won't find ANYWHERE else. Get this. I said so.

It's about time!.......2003-06-17
It's about time someone created a book about the DBZ Card Game. This game has been around for years, and there's not too many places to get information.
This book is perfect for newbies, and people that are trying to get better. I think you World Champion type guys will enjoy it too, as you finally can read about your sport. ;-)
This book has History, Killer Decks, Top 10 Lists and more. My favorite part is the Top 20 Most Collectible Cards, as I like to collect the rare ones.
There's 96 pages ... and all of them are fun to read! Pick in up!

Horrible.......2007-05-13
Quake! by Gail Langer Karwoski was one of the worst books I have ever read! It is really cheesy and I would recommend it for grades 1-3 more than 4-6. I had to read this for middle school summer reading. It was so bad that I wouldn't read it by choice at any moment. I didn't want to give it 1 star because I liked a couple parts of it.
It starts off with a boy named Jacob Kauffman. The earthquake happens within the first thirty pages of the book. I would think that it should happen in the middle of the book and explain more of Jacob's life before than the disaster. Jacob finds a dog he names Quake after the earthquake, which I thought was really dumb. He finds his family at the end, they were seperated throughout the book. I didn't like it, and I would only recommend it to a 6-year-old.
Trajic in San Frasico.......2007-03-31
The plot of this story is a earthquake. When Jacob and his family are asleep the dog his Uncle Avi gave him woke them.Jacobs dad told him to give it back. When Jacob was returning the the dog the quake struck.Afterthe quake there was buildings fallen down and building blocks on the sidewalk.Fires where every where, water pipes wheredown and people where trapped under buildings. With no no water the army had to blow blow up buildings tostop the fire ,after the fire stoped ,the next day it rained.
Quake! Disaster in San Francisco, 1906.......2006-08-24
With stereotypical characters and obvious plotting, QUAKE! seems to warrant a lower score, but, in fact, this is a historical fiction novel that works well for the lower-level reader. I don't think this really belongs on the 6-8 grade Sunshine State reading list at all, but only on the 3-5 grade list.
Full of ethnic working-class characters in olde time San Francisco, QUAKE! tells the story of a boy (and his newly acquired stray dog) as he does what he can to survive and find his family after the devastating disaster of a century ago. Necessarily fast-paced to keep the interest of the younger reader, the story does rely extremely heavily on interspersing actual facts and characters of the disaster to maintain its integrity.
My 8th grade students would probaby be interested in this story more for the historical perspective than the story being told. My daughter (3rd grade) enjoyed it thoroughly.
I would give this 3.5 stars if the Amazon rating system allowed half-points.
Well done for children's fiction.......2006-07-25
I admire the author for taking such a catastrophic story and telling it in a way that children can understand and learn from. I consider myself a collector on all things "Quake '06" and this is one of my prize possessions. I highly recommend it. If you're looking for a DVD that tells the non-fiction version of the quake and fire, I'd recommend "Disaster by the Bay" also here on amazon, easily the best documentary on the subject.
Son Loved This Book!.......2005-11-01
I bought this book for my 9-year-old son, and he thought it was "awesome." He said it was one of the best books he has ever read. It truly prepared him to understand a disaster of an enormous magnitude; after he read Quake, the Pakistan earthquake hit and he understand the devastation and fear that people were experiencing. That, to me, is what the best books for kids do. They open up the world and teach them what they could not learn for themselves (such as experiencing an earthquake). Learning and loving to read at the same time - what a great combination.
He loved the book (he could not stress this enough).

5th graders loved this book.......2005-09-17
I'm the Breakfast Book Club coordinator for my children's elementary school. I read and selected this book for the 5th grade group. It was the book they liked the most. I'm keeping it on this year's list.
A good, but short read..........2004-03-28
Quake: A novel is a good book. It is set in the late eighties, in California. I really enjoyed it and it shows how much things have changed just since then. I'm a teen and I would say that when I first started reading this book I thought that some of the characters were kind of shallow, but by the end of the book I didn't think that anymore. I really recomend this book!!
Tries too hard........2002-05-15
I am a 14 year old male. I needed to read an easy short book in one week for school, so I picked up this piece of [junk]. This book revolves around a "normal, average, every-day" girl (like we need another one of THEM). She and her friend experience an earthquake. Big deal. This was pure torture trying to get through this garbage. As if us teenagers don't get stereotyped enough, this author describes a "cool" teenager as the head-phone-wearing, couch-potato, MTV-loving punk. I laughed out loud. Joe Cottonwood, the [person] that wrote this, is horrible at dialogue. He describes teenagers talking: "Like Totally for sure whatever!" Does he even have kids!? I don't mean to be a little wise-[butt], but I think I could write better sub-plots. I'm a writer, and this book actually inspired me more. If there are novels out there that are this bad.. I could write an Epic! Compare this to someone like Harper Lee.. it's kind of funny. But in the more younger category, this one ranks way below Lois Sachar. This guy tries to be descriptive, like he knows he's good. Sometimes it's okay. But mostly it just makes you want to slap some sense into him. He needs to learn how to build better characters. Too plain, and too original. This is coming out of a 14 year old too.. so does this tell the author something?
CHECK THIS OUT!!!!!!!!!.......2002-01-25
This book is about two former friends who see each other for the first time in a long time. Their parents are going to the world series together. While they are visiting there is a massive earthquake. What will happen?
I liked this book because of the intense description. Another reason is because of the plot of the story. My favorite character was Sydney because he acts just like a little boy should. He likes bllod, guts, and war movies. The best part of the book was when the earthquake hit. The reason is because the author made it very real. It made you feel like it happened to you. The ending is disappointing because I wanted something else to happened.
Relive Loma Prieta '89.......1999-02-27
This is the best book for all ages to relive the disastrous Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989. As you read this book or any of Cottonwood's novels it easy to bond and relate with the characters. This book makes you feel like you are living out the disaster with the family. A must read!

A dummies book...for dummies.......2007-01-28
Sadly this thing only really covers Map making, with the title it has I would cry foul and demand your money back, unless you are focusing on maping.
Mapping and Modding.......2007-01-13
While this book does primarily cover mapping for Quake 4 (which is a form of modding), it also covers other aspects of modding (although in lesser detail). However, if you want to make a new level for the game, this book rocks. It comes with complete examples on making maps from start to finish. It shows you how to make custom textures for your maps and characters. Then it shows you how to package and release your map to the world.
[...]
Definitely worth the price. You'll be making your own maps for your friends or clan by the end of the weekend.
Not what expected, advertised.......2006-09-01
The title is Quake 4 Mods for Dummies. The tag line is "Ever wonder what Quake 4 would be like if it included that especially cool weapon you dreamed up? Here's the fun and easy way® to find out." But here's the deal: it will show you how to INCLUDE that fancy new weapon, but not how to make it. Nor will it tell you how to change the gameplay mechanics of the game.
What you get instead is 200+ pages of how to make maps. At the end of that is a small section on how to make a GUI, reskin models, and package them for putting into the game.
I'm giving it 3 stars because it seems like a pretty nice map tutorial, but this is NOT a book on how to make mods. If you wanted to learn how to make that machine-gun-shotgun, you're out of luck here. If you wanted to find out how to make new power-ups, you're out of luck here.
Summary, the book would be better named Quake 4 Mapping for Dummies.

Gripping!.......1999-05-04
My 11 year-old son loved this series. The minute he finished the first one, we had to go out and get the second one. We are both eagerly anticipating the third book. It's nice to have a series that boys can relate to!
This series is off to a GREAT START!!!!!.......1998-12-13
A horrible Earthquake is tearing Stieg apart. It is up to Adam and Stieg to save San Fran. Agent Tagget finds out where they are and holds them at gun point. Stieg runs away to a near by carnival and thats were the EARTHQUAKE hit's. To find out the end READ THE BOOK
Heroes that boys can relate to and admire.......1998-08-25
Like the first book in the Disaster Zone series, "In the Eye of the Tornado," this is an exciting story with heroes young readers can relate to. Brothers Adam and Stieg race against time and a mysterious enemy to warn people of an impending earthquake; the urgency of their mission will leave readers as breathless as the latest high-budget disaster movie does. Unlike so many cartoons, movies, and other entertainment for boys, however, the protagonists here don't posture fearlessly or thrill to violence without apparent consequences. And unlike so much entertainment for boys, this book includes a smart, determined woman without whom the boys' mission will fail.
A gripping, uplifting sequel.......1998-08-24
With good humor and emotional maturity, the two protagonists of this sequel to "In the Eye of the Tornado" tackle the cataclysmic consequences both of earthquakes and of growing up. I recommend reading the two books in order, though "In the Heart of the Quake" can stand on its own. This series packs in the action and suspense without the gratuitous violence or mindless machismo of so many TV cartoons, movies and books aimed at boys.

Earth shaking facts.......2001-06-30
After our class felt Seattle's earthquake, I found this book. The kids were captivated to learn more about what makes the ground shake. You can also find out how long the longest recorded quake was, why soldiers break step when crossing small bridges, what special equipment rescuers use, what building shape is very strong, and read earthquake legends. There's a brief explanation of the Richter scale and experiments you can do. This book was hard to find on our class book shelf because someone was always reading it.
