Excellent stories, great fun for all........2005-07-14
This 102-page, 7" x 5" mini-sized volume is a fantastic addition to any comic book collection, and fun entertainment for kids and adults alike. It contains five complete short stories inspired on the Cartoon Network's animated "Justice League Unlimited" (JLU) series. Matching the writing and artistic style of the show, the stories are filled with action-packed plots, clear and precise dialogues, detailed drawings, vivid colors, and tons of good humor, and each one showcases more than a handful of superheroes and villains, all straight out of the recently expanded lineup of characters on the series.
The stories included, which were originally published individually as monthly issues of the JLU magazine, are the following:
*JLU #1: Divide & Conquer - When Superman, Wonder Woman and Captain Atom suddenly go berserk and are unable to recall their actions later on, they decide to quit the League and go into hiding before they end up hurting someone. It's up to Batman, Zatanna, Hawkgirl and Flash to discover what or who is behind their strange behavior.
*JLU #2: Poker Face - Superman, Flash, Huntress, Steel and Booster Gold's Poker Night in the League's Watchtower gets interrupted when they receive a report that the Royal Flush Gang is breaking havoc in Las Vegas, and it's up to them to protect the city that's so famous for its casinos, Elvis sightings and Marilyn Monroe impersonators.
*JLU #3: Small Time - When Atom mysteriously materializes on top of the Watchtower's meeting room table, looking seriously ill and battered, is up to him, Wonder Woman, Ice and Firestorm to fight off the new threat of microscopic invaders from another dimension that he has just discovered.
*JLU #4: Local Hero - Batman, Superman, Martian Manhunter and Elongated Man are celebrating on the Planet Rann after helping Adam Strange put away the evil conqueror Kanjar Ro. But Salaan, a young Rannian, doesn't believe that the planet needs an alien as its guardian, so he steals an old Adam Strange costume and frees Kanjar Ro to make his point by proving that he alone can recapture him. When the villain proves too much for Salaan, it's up to the local hero and the members of the League to capture him before he makes Salaan pay for his foolishness with his life.
*JLU #5: Monitor Duty - Blue Beetle seems bored out of his mind while on monitor duty at the Watchtower almost five hours before his shift ends and Green Lantern's begins. After trying some snacks, some costume swapping, some ego surfing on the net, and some casual chatting with other JLU members, a strange noise draws his attention to an intruder. The General, who had to be taken on by the whole JLU team the last time he was captured, was left in deep space as punishment for his deeds, but has just come back seeking revenge. It's up to Blue Beetle to stop this seemingly invincible menace on his own or perish in the effort.
Although this title is advertised as a graphic novel for kids, it's an enjoyable read for everyone who likes comics and the characters of the DC universe, particularly if they are also fans of the show. It's also a healthy tool, free of the needless violence and gruesomeness so familiar to comic books today, with which to set an example for kids on the real meaning of friendship, teamwork, conviction, trust, sacrifice and other values and ideals embodied by the League's superheroes.
Whether you buy this delightful little title for yourself or for your kids, you won't be disappointed.

Dont bother getting this.......2007-07-04
For one, the company is almost bankrupt and out of business. Two, its a terrible game. If you want to play a great heroes game get Mutants and Masterminds.
I bought this and returned it. Save you money for quality material.
Stalwart.......2006-09-14
What Heroes Unlimited lacks in diversity and customization (point buy systems have this staple pretty much cornered) it makes up for in overall playability and dozens of raodblocks to game abuse. Don't misunderstand, any game can be min/maxed, but the Palladiums strict class system makes it much more difficult that games with more freedom.
This is a great game to introduce players to (I, myself, started with Ninjas & Superspies back in the late 80s). It is great as a standalone book (in fact, the sourcebooks are mostly fluff, the game just doesn't need anything else).
Heroes Unlimited revised second edition.......2002-05-10
The original Heroes Unlimited was published by Palladium books way back in 1984 amidst a wide selection of Super Hero genre RPGs.. 2002 and this game is in it's third incarnation while others of it's type have faded into the past. The game is cohesive and features Palladium's universal rule system, the first of it's kind back in the 80's (yes, even before GURPS), so it is compatable with every other game in the Palladium Megaverse. Aside from covering every main type of super hero, anti hero or villian, from aliens to super sleuths; Heroes Unlimited provides a loose framework for creating the entire campaign environment, including quick roll tables for Non player characters and words of advice in how potential game masters can breathe life into thier creations.
Why buy this book?
Two words : It works!
You are buying a reliable product that is supported by Palladium Books ... with an active message board, numerous fan sites and frequent releases of supplimentary titles (such as Villians unlimited, Aliens unlimited, Heroes unlimited G.M.'s Guide and more planned this year).. HU2 is here to stay.
Flawed masterpiece..........2000-08-23
Palladium's contribution to the 'superhero boom' that hit the RPG industry a while ago, and one of the most durable. If you know the Palladium system, you'll find this a doddle to use, and the combat system has been expanded considerably (rules for vehicle and arial combat). The 'power category' system works well (mutants, aliens, cyborgs, psychics etc) and the skill selection system is realistic for a present-day setting. With a little imagination, the rules give the ability for almost any kind of superhero to be (re)created.
Bad points. Firstly, some sections are badly worded. For example, the Robotics section is extremely confusing and the cybernetics listing contradicts itself, giving different listings for the same item. Also, despite a 'Mega-Hero' option, there are few facilities to create powerhouses on the level of Superman or the Incredible Hulk. I can see how something like that would have been open to abuse, but the option would have been nice. And the magic listing is somewhat truncated, though this is rectified in a later sourcebook.
Aside from those gripes, I recommend it. It may be intimidating for those new to roleplaying or the Palladium system, but few games have the sheer possibility on offer here.
Heroes Unlimited II.......2000-02-10
Great both for a stand alone Supers Game, and wonderful as an addition for most other Palladium games. DM's running RIFTS will find it useful when your players are running rampant over the Techno based and Magic based NPC's. Adds spice to your Horror based games. No more seeing the players stake and cross your vampires when they have INVULNERABILITY.

Wayne Breaux Cannot Draw, But He CAN Write.......2006-12-30
For some reason, Palladium Books relies heavily on an untalented artist to fill its pages with mediocre art. Wayne Breaux is that artist and he must work for cheap because he's featured in almost every book. His art inspires backwash of stomach acid and the disgusted aversion of eyes that accompanies any glance at the aftermath of a train wreck.
The text parts, though, are good. There are tons of aliens and they're grouped well into categories like dog-type aliens, humanoid aliens and so on. I enjoyed reading the text and using the alien races in my campaigns as much as I loathed seeing the scrawlings and scrapings called "art" on each page. Just get the book and white-out the art. You'll thank yourself for it everytime you open the book.
Excellent resource for RIFTS.......2000-09-02
My friends and I use this as Rifts resource regularly. We use the alien races often and the weapons/equipment section, which offers generic items, literally dozens of them, minus the backfrouns and pics, so there's more bang per page. Probably a hundred guns, plus armor, bots. AND.. that means they can be given your own names, etc... This is an all rouns good books, even if I haven't done a great job presenting it. USEFUL INFO for once.
Aliens .vs. Superheroes.......2000-04-07
This is the best accessory to Heroes Unlimited. Everyone who plays superhero games has dreamed of taking the battles and wages of war beyond the planet Earth to Outer Space. Now you can wth the perfect addition and must for Heroes Unlimited players to give a switch and new turn to the game. If you are tired of the same old Superhero saves the city you should run or play this Role-Playing Game. I loved this because it gives new flavor to the Superhero world.

A new world of wonder!.......1999-01-05
This book is great if you want a new Heroes world, or Rifts world to play in. It has a lot of need ideas, characters, equipment, and weapons. It lists some of the conversions for taking Heroes powers to Rifts, but leaves out most of the new ones. It would have been better if they would have just added the conversions for the new powers, and not reprinted the conversions for the old ones. The do offer the idea that you can use the ones given as a bases of the powers that where not converted. Over all it is a good book, with only some minor problems. It does have one new power that was left out of the Heroes Unlimited 2nd Ed. book.

RPG.......2007-09-03
Superhero role playing game using the Palladium system, allows random and created design with various types of superbeings. An interesting read just for the detail put into that section, it should keep superfans happy allowing them the flexibility to play whatever sort of character they like, in general, or even just make one quickly.
Comic Book Hero roleplaying at it's finest!.......1999-08-20
This is one of the most enjoyable and comprehensive Comic Book Hero based role playing games out there. The only thing missing is "symbiants". The Palladim game system is far more advanced and enjoyable than any other on the market, including Dungeons and Dragons. If you enjoyed it, you'll love Palladium Fantasy RPG.
Hell-yeah.......1999-03-18
If you are at all interested in role playig you absolutely must get this book.
Excellent.......1998-11-04
"Heroes Unlimited" is another shining example of Palladium at it's finest.
This Book Kicks Ass!.......1998-08-22

To the people who are accomplished in its use, Structured Query Language (SQL) is a highly capable, eminently flexible, even beautiful way of describing the data that you want from a database, or the changes that you want to make to a database. For the rest of us, however, SQL is a first-class nuisance that we do our best to avoid by relying on relatively user-friendly--but usually less powerful--tools. SQL Queries for Mere Mortals aims to bring SQL-phobes closer to the first camp by tutoring them carefully in what SQL can do.
The authors recognize that SQL queries usually come about as a result of questions from human beings, and so usefully spend a fair bit of time showing how to convert, say, "In what cities do our customers live?" into, "Select city from the customers table" and, finally, "SELECT city FROM customers" in SQL. They call this the "translation and clean up" process, and it's a fine approach. They don't press it too far, however, and are equally adept at presenting straight explanations of SQL syntax elements in prose. They spend a lot of energy graphically diagramming aspects of SQL syntax in a format that requires some up-front study. A particular reader might prefer text capsules to this arrow-intensive format, but other learners might like the graphical syntax diagrams. --David Wall
Topics covered: ANSI SQL/92 for people who need to use it to make queries against business databases. The authors introduce one or two syntax elements at a time--SELECT, WHERE, JOIN, UNION, and so on--and cover data extraction, data insertion, filtering, joins, calculations, and other capabilities of generic SQL.

AWESOME BOOK.......2007-06-08
This book is very well written. It is very intuitive for both persons who want to spice up their query knowledge and/or those who need a refresher. Having been away from SQL for a while it was a good "crash" course refresher. I highly recommend it. -----
SQL Queries for Mere Mortals.......2007-04-17
SQL Queries for Mere Mortals: A Hands-On Guide to Data Manipulation in SQL
I very well written and concise, easy to understand piece of work. Dont be fooled that since it was written for SQL 7 (2000) that the information is outdated and is not valid, it is definately still current infact this lays the foundation for you to understand why SQL Language is important in designing relationship databases such as Microsoft Access (all versions). I would have paid triple the pieces for this valuable information.
You Won't Be an Overnight Expert, But..........2007-01-17
...you'll be well on your way. I bought this book (and it's database design partner) about six years ago when I started dabbling in databases. It gave me all the knowledge I needed to get started and it was more than enough to pique my interest.
You can't stop your SQL learning with this book, but if you use it as a launchpad to learn more, you'll be fine. I've gotten more than a couple of jobs that required database/SQL knowledge in the years since I've read/used this book, but there was a lot of trial and error along the way. Now, SQL is just like a second language to me and it all started with this book.
Incredible.......2007-01-02
I had a year's experience with SQL queries when I purchased this book, but I am so glad that I did. It is by far one of the most useful Comp Science books that I have bought. I do not, however, recommend it to people who need to learn SQL stuff ASAP, because it contains enough information to confuse the Hell out of ya.
Absolutely outstanding book!.......2007-01-01
Hey, I loved this book! I am a 15 year veteran developer who hasn't had the need since graduate school to build very complex queries since I always had a DBA or such on my team to do the work. So, my real-life experience of queries amounted to little more than "SELECT colname FROM tablename WHERE condition".
Recently, though, while building a sophisticated report interface to an application, I had the opportunity and the need to do more than simple selects, so I went looking for a book and found this one which seemed precisely suited for my needs.
A newbie reviewer of this book complained that it didn't teach him about INSERT, UPDATE, and CREATE TABLE. Well, a chisel is not a hammer, but just as they don't look even similar to each other, you would have thought that the title of this book would have given neophyte a clue, but I guess not.
This book is absolutely great, and even fun to read! Really, I read it over my vacation and had a wonderful time. It clearly and logically takes you through the whole query structure step by step with working exercises that use the supplied tables and data. It teaches you standard SQL, and then mentions how it maps to proprietary variations found in the major RDBMS's.
I don't know how this book would work for a newbie, but if you've written enough simple queries and wanted to do more, this book just lays it all out for you. I now know how to improve the queries behind dozens of the reports in my current project, and now I can design incredibly sophisticated dashboards using BIRT for BAM and OLAP purposes. I've always wanted to do dashboards with speedometer widgets, and now I know how to get the information for them.
Really, although I am still not very experienced, I have total confidence that I can now tackle the most complex queries my current and planned projects will ever require. This book empowered me in ways that few of the literally hundreds of CS books that I have read have ever even approached.
