Book Description
Don't try too hard. That's the secret. The solutions to these tantalizing teasers take common sense, not great knowledge of deep subjects. So relax, have fun, and wait for the answers to bob to the surface. Along the way you'll meet a strange collection of humanity: the harem of the Great Tamerlane; Englishmen stranded on a desert island; the twins Peter and Paul, one of whom always tells the truth and one who always lies (you figure out who's lying when one of them answers one question with one word). Solve a murder on a train as four fellow passengers speak only one sentence each. Try this short teaser: The month begins on a Friday and ends on a Friday, too. What month is it? Win bets by shifting coins from one design to another with the fewest moves. Guess your beautiful math teacher's zodiac sign. Take on the fiendishly frustrating Hidden Words and Secret Numbers, and play dominos with no dots. Hints and clues are available along the way, and so are the answers if you try too hard and simply have to have them. 96 pages, 60 b/w illus., 5 3/8 x 8 1/4.

Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse........2007-09-23
Great for the in dept look at a well run warehouse. Has all the details to help you start or clean-up an operation and help it run like a well oiled machine.
This is a must...........2006-10-30
This book is a must for ANY professional working in the finished-goods/products Fulfillment/Distribution world. If your work and responsibilities span anywhere within a FC/DC, you should pick up this book. For less than one hundred bucks, you get one of the best written, concise handbooks I have ever encountered.
It's very important to note that this is not just a dictionary-like handbook, but rather a book that is actually easily readble and enjoyable. It is not for novices, but for anyone with some level of experience, the book comes to life and will help you build depth.
I work for a major e-retailer that disbributes products to end customers. Having worked many years here and picking up most of the know-how from experience alone, I am now questioning why our learning dept doesn't have the insight to make this book a "required" manual for all when we first started. It is excellent and provides great explanations and applications .
Buy it. If I ran a DC/FC, this is a must read for all my mgrs and jr mgrs.
Great warehousing and material handling book.......2003-05-03
This is the best book I've ever found on material handling and warehouse storage. Though a little pricey, this book has content that makes it well worth the cost. Extensive detail on material handling and storage equipment. Also has separate chapters dedicated to small item warehouses, case-pick warehouses, and pallet warehouses.
Anyone designing a new warehouse or redesigning an existing one should read this book.
Customer Reviews:
Great reference on warehouse management.......2003-05-03
I recommend this book primarily for the extensive content. At over 900 pages, this book is enormous. Though you may want more detailed information on certain topics, you will at least find some useful information on virtually every topic related to managing a warehouse. The book is actually a collection of chapters written by different authors. Each chapter can be read independently of the others, which makes this a very good reference book.
Because of the multiple authors, there is some redundancy between chapters and inconsistency in the quality of the content.
If you're responsible for managing a warehouse, you should have this book on your bookshelf.
Not worth the money.......2003-04-11
As a beginner in warehouse managing, the book is very general and does not provide any useful learning to me. In the discussion of communication, it does not touch on web based technology among warehouse, suppliers and customers. It actually focus entirely on the expensive traditional EDI technology.
Tompkins Associates - Quote.......2001-01-08
This is the highly demanded second edition of The Warehouse Management Handbook. The second edition offers 39 crucial, leading-edge chapters, each written by a different noted warehouse management expert. There is not a more complete guide to the science of warehouse management in print. Numbering almost a thousand pages, The Warehouse Management Handbook, Second Edition is literally brimming with information that will improve warehouse performance and the bottom line. This book is a must for every warehouse.
Chapter topics include: Third Party Warehousing, Warehouse Space and Layout Planning, Simulation, Hazardous Materials Management, Environmental Concerns in Warehousing, Automated Guided Vehicle Systems, RF Communication, Warehouse Management Systems, Electronic Data Interchange, and Loss Control.
Special features in this book include a comprehensive index and two case studies. The Warehouse Management Handbook, Second Edition is the standard warehouse management reference, and is an ideal text for industrial engineering courses of study.

Customer Reviews:
Good reference but too detailed for most readers........2003-05-17
This book is a valuable reference, however, I think it is probably too detailed for most readers. If you're a warehouse manager or plant manager looking for information on improving your material handling and storage areas you may not appreciate having to wade through enormous amounts of technical specs and references to obscure material handling techniques just to find the information you needed. I'm not saying that this book does not have valuable information, only that it also has enormous amounts of information that you probably don't need. If you're a material handling engineer, you may want to have this on your shelf. But for the rest of us, try the book listed below.
The same author has another book "Warehouse Distribution & Operations Handbook" ISBN 0070440026 that is outstanding, and I would recommend buying it first.

Book Description
If your business uses warehouses to deal with the sales of goods, then you know that facility operations, shipping, and customer service are important to your company's health. Eaches or Pieces Order Fulfillment, Design, and Operations Handbook offers insights for warehouse, distribution, or logistics professionals to make their "eaches or pieces" order-fulfillment operation more efficient and cost effective as well as provide better customer service. Created for direct marketing and retail store fulfillment operators, this handbook emphasizes the skills and knowledge needed to design, organize, and execute an order-fulfillment operation or concept. The first chapter reviews order-fulfillment activities and distribution operations. The author then proceeds to discuss docking; design parameters; storage; pick, pack, and ship activities; and power stock keeping units (SKUs). The final chapter discusses trash removal, vendor-delivered unit of product (UOP) rework locations and flows, and customer returns. Preplanned and organized order-fulfillment operations increase accurate and on-time deliveries, reduce costs, and improve profits. By developing and maintaining an order-fulfillment concept as outlined in Eaches or Pieces Order Fulfillment, Design, and Operations Handbook, you will discover useful strategies for your next warehouse or plant facility as well as improve existing order-fulfillment operations.

A Different Pespective on Data Warehousing.......2000-06-07
This book offers a good alternative perspective on how to build and maintain a data warehouse. It covers more of the political aspects of the process and offers useful tips on many of the less talked about areas of data warehousing, like how to implement upgrades to your software tools. It also covers the business drivers for building a data warehousing in great detail.
This would be a good companion book to Kimball's Lifecycle Toolkit book. This book (and CD which is included) has several very useful checklists and templates as well. All in all, a good reference book for the data warehouse practitioner (consultant, project manager, architect, or analyst/programmer).

Customer Reviews:
In a Nutshell.......2000-08-09
Great reference for the warehouse manager or project manger. Provides an excellent explanation of the various warehouse activities and equipment. Very useful for project management with good walk-throughs for many warehouse / distribution projects; especially racking, WMS and RF. Also is a good reference for project management in general; provides many examples of project documentation and checklists. Detailed yet information is easy to find. I hope future editions take a closer look at scalability and tecnology that integrates the WMS with the Enterprise system. Overall a great resource for any Ops department...
