The artist does a good job covering all the needed supplies and methods to create such beautiful floor cloths. There is a lot covered in these pages, although I could have skipped the color theory part given its really trial and error and personal design ultimately. There are lots of beautiful floor cloths to admire by this artist and others. Wish there were some substantial patterns to apply in addition to the very basic stripes included. This book helps motivate one to begin and do it right, and the rest is really up to one's imagination which the author gives a good springboard to leap from.

Where Civ came from.......2007-10-01
Maybe it's not the first of the civ building type games, but it's the first rule set for those games. Played between H.G. Wells' kids, with him as moderator, this nation versus nation in combat and comerce game is still fun to play. It's very family oriented and a good way to bond with parents and kids. Since everything is physical there is no ambiguous rules to be misinterpreted, this helps belay blow ups between siblings. A fun fun game for all!

I must admit I had not heard of "Floor Wars" prior to reading "Little Wars". The book predates "Little Wars" but is often considered a companion to the other book. It focuses more on the collecting and building of settings than actual wargaming. The books compliment each other well. "Floor Wars" sparked my imagination even more...taking me back to the little countries and armies that I used to think up in my youth. It was amusing listening to Wells go on about how good figures for certain periods and ranges were not available. I guess nothing really changes after all!

I am long-time gamer and also a great fan of H. G. Wells. When this reprint came out, I knew I just had to have it. It is really neat. Thanks to Skirmisher Publishing for making it available again!
A gaming classic from a literary master.......2006-05-25
If you haven't read H. G. Wells's "Floor Games" (and the later but better known "Little Wars") you owe it to yourself to check them out. They're funny, creative, insightful, and elegantly written--a century-old testament to Wells's genius. Kudos to Varhola and Skirmisher Publishing for rescuing these classics from obscurity.

This toys helps in many facets: helps child learn the alphabet, associate sounds to letters of the alphabet since there are objects associated with each letter and solve puzzles. High recommend this. My 2 1/2 year old loves it!
Nice Quality Puzzle.......2004-04-17
While this was a puzzle of nice quality and really outstanding photos - - - I think that if you had to pick one of two, I would go with "Alphabet Train Floor Puzzle" rather than this one. It's just more logical and a whole lot more fun when children arrange the puzzle way across the room, rather than this rectangular shape. Both my kids, when I first bought both sets, preferred the train puzzle to this one, despite this one being of impressive quality.

My 13 month old son makes use of this puzzle at his age. He'd go through the pieces and admire the pictures. We're using it as a book now and then we would use it as a puzzle when he gets older. The size of the complete puzzle is just right. It's big enough to use on some tables and small enough for the floor space in his bedroom. The box has a handle so it is convenient to carry around from room to room or even to a friend's house. It would make an excellent gift.

This is a great book/ puzzle for truck-obsessive toddlers. Each of six 2-page spreads features text on one page and 1/6 of a photo of a dump truck in action on the other. Most of each photo page consists of a pop-out puzzle piece. The six pieces can be assembled to make a large (maybe 18" x 30") completed photo. They can also be flipped over to make an illustration of a construction scene featuring a bunch of different trucks.
The puzzle pieces are easy to remove and replace. The same photo appears on the page in the space left when a piece is taken out, so little ones can see which piece goes where when it's time to put them away.

Solid Introduction to Economic Indicators, although dated.......2006-05-18
This book is an easy read and it is a great introduction to economic indicators. Unfortunately, it is out of date. It gives a description of what each indicator actually measures, who produces the indicator, and why it is important to the stock, bond, and currency markets.
It is a very quick read (less than a day) and can be used to refresh one's memory on the basic econ indicators.
It also includes an in-depth discussion of how the Fed actually regulates the money supply. This is one of the better introductions to the Fed's operations that I have read.
I recommend quickly reading this book whenever you need a refresher course on the very basics of what to look for in economic indicators, especially with respect to how they affect the markets.

When data has been made public from the FED, this book helps one to diagnose and better comprehend those economic figures.
