Coming out ahead.......2002-03-18
I'd like to start out by thanking the author. I've been a gambler for several years, but not a very smart one. I used the - Green Plan - on quarters and it worked for me. I made a profit late in the afternoon. Had I been playing 3 quarters all along, I would have run out of money hours earlier. I'm anxious to study up on the other work plans and put them to the test.
It was a new feeling for me that I was in control of the outcome much more than ever before. I recommend it for the gambler that likes to go often, but can't afford it if they lose. This way, you win a little or lose a little, and can afford to keep visiting the casino.
It sure beats some of my previous strategies, like rabbits feet, wearing red and walking around an oak tree during the full moon.
Thank you, Claude.
Slot Smarts: Winning Strategies At The Slot Machine.......2002-02-26
This book would have received higher "stars", however, the author is too moralistic in preaching on the perils of slot playing. There is too much information in this book that the average slot player is already aware of. The book was disappointing from this stand point. I did use the author's spreadsheet to enable better tracking for my future slot sessions. Frankly, the book is overpriced for the knowledge gleaned.
Good strategies for those new to slot money management........1999-08-28
I read this short book in one night. The strategies for playing the machines are well documented and easy to follow. My only complaint is too much time repeating the basics of limiting your gambling to money you can afford to lose and limiting your expectations for profit--we all know that I hope. But I'm going to try the strategies on my next trip to the casinos and I'll let you know if they work then...
A Worthwhile Read.......1999-04-30
As we say in the Old Country, this one's a "corker," a real pick-me-up and put-down "read". Good for browsing which is about all travelling slotters like me get to do en route to the next tournament. The author had won me over well before I got to his piece on slot tournaments. Beats me why others haven't woken up to that lure yet. Best of all worlds! Fun galore and somebody in the group is always guaranteed to take out the big money. Makes sense to me but then most of this book does, and for old pros like me too. After some of the junk put out by "experts" on one-armed bandits, this book sticks to reality. We all need a game plan before the money goes in AND we all need to stick to it. That makes real sense.
Easy to Read, Well Worth Trying.......1999-02-05
Have read most books on winning at slots. They don't help much. This one has much more to offer. I'm a $$ player anyway which helps because the author insists on two coin $$ machines and a hefty start stake. I am a bit of a wanderer so I don't object to his frequent movements. Do his ideas work? I am making a better job of "managing my luck" (as he puts it) since I found this book in Atlantic City but I haven't ventured to Vegas yet where he seems to concentrate his efforts. Maybe I will go after my next big win. I've had a couple in three trips using one of his strategies and sticking to his two coiners.
Book Description
Slot machines are the heartbeat of a casino. Enter any big house of chance and the first thing you'll hear is the humming, clanging, ringing, jingling of those dispensers of luck known as "one-armed bandits."
SLOT MACHINE STRATEGY is a concise and easy-to-understand guide to the exciting, and potentially lucrative world of the casino slot machine. MacIntyre Symms offers important lessons, including:
· How can you choose the North American casino with the best chance of paying off?
· How do you decide whether to stick with the machine you are playing or move to a new machine?
· How is slot machine strategy affected by casino innovations such as the progressive jackpot and multiple-coin machines?
Along with helpful tips on how to win and win big, Symms also briefly offers slot machine history, a quick course in how to manage your money, and some of the wacky things to expect should you win the big jackpot.

Enjoyable easy read.......2002-05-25
I personally enjoyed this book, which I borrowed from the library. The part that I enjoyed the most, were the case studies near the end of the book, which described several types of slot players, and the common mistakes that they made, and how they overcame them. One case study was about a guy who won 2 million dollars playing 10 dollar slots, and continued to play after he had won. That was really interesting. There might not be much new in this book, as another reviewer mentioned, but playing slots is not as complicated as other casino games. This book is to the point, and drills home good ideas and strategies like the title suggests.
same old stuff.......2002-03-22
There's nothing new in this book that hasn't already been written about playing slots.

Excellent book on gambling.......1998-03-31
This book covers just about every game in the casino's. It will tell you the odds on each, the best strategies ( if there are any ), money management, and the absolute best strategy for blackjack. I have read more than one book on gambling, and this is the most all around informitive book ( as well as up to date ) out there. Definately worth the money!!

WORTHLESS.......2003-08-18
After living in Las Vegas, and Reno for over 20 years, I've seen tons of people write about secrets to winning at slots. About 95 percent are completely worthless. This book does not tell you where to win or how. Most of his "Tips" are a lot of junk, mostly common sense. If a machine isn't hitting after you hit the button fifty times, the chances that it will are slim. Mr. Cardoza never gives any real, solid winning advice through the whole book. If you've never in you life played a slot read the book. It is good for people who don't know anything about slots. If you have played slots, don't waste your money on this book. Understand that Vegas, Reno, Atlantic City, Laughlin, and others are built on SLOTS not the table games, not the pricey shows, SLOTS. Casinos in Las Vegas make about 50-75% of their revenue on the SLOTS. Keep that in mind when you go. I love playing the slots, and I have won several thousand dollars, but not by employing anything in this book. Use the money you want to spend on this book and get a book on Black Jack and Poker. Which incidentally are the best paying games in the casino. Problem is they take a long time to master, but the pay off is much greater.
This is a must!.......2001-01-21
I happened to see this book at my friend's house but didn't finish the book. So, I went home and ordered it online. After finished reading this book, I must tell you that I'd gained a lot more confidence in winning more money. Last week, I went to Las Vegas with my family, and it DID pay off. Not all the tips and secrets in the book applied, yet I managed to win more money than I'd ever done before. Take it from me, I don't like reading much, but I got to admit that this book is pretty easy to read. Better yet, you can just skip to any chapter you're interested in right away.

A Must Read for Any Video Poker Fan.......2002-08-16
A wonderful, comprehensive, easy to read book on video poker. It makes it easy and fun to play the game and to know you are making the right play. Lenny Frome deserves his title as master of video poker. I started out not really knowing how to play the game but now I love playing and feel confident that I am using the winning strategy! The EV tables make are easy to use. I also suggest reading VP Americas National Game of Chance by the same author.
ALMOST AS MUCH FUN TO READ AS IT IS TO PLAY.......2002-01-22
I am a regular video poker player. I had heard many positive things about Mr. Frome's book, though I do not generally anjoy reading. The book was very enjoyable to read and immediately improved my play and that was very rewarding, if you know what I mean. I highly recomend the book for players at any level.
Not for Beginners.......2001-06-16
The author is a former rocket scientist and the book contains many charts that the "average" person may find difficult to fathom. There are very few explanations for the terms used in the charts and minimal examples. The beginning player wants to know why video poker is so popular; the difference between normal slots and video poker; what are full-pay machines. If you are just starting out - don't start with this book.
Don't Leave Home without this book!.......2000-07-21
I go to LV a couple of times a year and take frequent day trips to Atlantic City as well. I always make sure to bring this book with me. The book helps me make sure I only play the best paying machines with the best pay tables.
It has the strategy tables for more than 60 variations of Video Poker which makes it easy to learn how to play the version you like the most.
I also own the companion software which lets me practice on the same versions of the games and tells me when I make a mistake in playing.
If you play Video Poker, you HAVE to have this book
BEST VP BOOK EVER!.......1999-04-13
Frome has put together the best book on VP if you want to win. It includes the strategies for 60 of the most popular games out there including the very popular DOUBLE BONUS/DOUBLE-DOUBLE BONUS Games.
I was in Las Vegas back in February, and I found a strategy table in here for virtually every game I could find in a casino. Nothing is left out!

SHE'S A WINNER!!!!.......2002-11-14
Wow!!! Thanks Gayle, you have made me (finally) a winner. Seemed that I attended casinos for the sole purpose of "donating" money - rarely did I ever leave with my pockets jingling.
Read your book and did I ever LEARN!!! Soooo very nice to leave the casino grinning from ear to ear. Well, not every time, but 70% more.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insight. And, please,, keep writing about any more tips that come to mind. You just may make me rich one day.
-a frequent winner, Kathy
Don't Waste Your Money.......2002-10-07
This book (book ? more like a pamphlet) is worthless. Nothing and I mean nothing of use here. I read both pamphlets All Slots Made Easier and All Slots Made Easier 2 and they both stink.
Slot Machines.......2000-06-16
I actually won on slot machines, for the first time! I had my trip paid for when I flew to Vegas. The book provided a simple plan to make all the different types of slot machines easier, and this easy plan helped me when the money that I normally just donate to whatever casino I visit. It is very helpfuly knowing that your odds are pretty good--that you have a better chance to win money than all the people sitting around you. This book changed me from a table player who sometimes wins, to a slot player who always wins.
Somehow.......2000-03-29
Well, if you aleady read the other book such as "break a one arm bandit" than basically you don't need to read this book, but if you didn't read other slot book it is not gonna hurt you.

Nostalgic, Pre-1980 look back at the way it was........1998-07-02
This book was interesting in it's look back. I found no information that would have been relevent to the modern day casino, or the games of the 90's. Readers would be better served to use the price of this book in a modern day quarter machine.

A Hands-on manager's guide to making the most of today's product development breakthroughs
A quarter century after MRP first transformed the global manufacturing arena, Next Generation Product Development stands poised to similarly impact new product development. This movement-defining book gives R&D professionals an in-depth explanation of the ways in which companies are able to achieve substantially higher levels of development productivity, while better aligning product development with strategy through new practices and systems.
Processes explored in Next Generation Product Development, and enabled by cutting-edge new-enterprise software, promise to explode the possibilities of what product development professionals can accomplish. This hands-on practitioner's guidebook will:
- Establish a common set of frameworks and concepts
- Introduce new project portfolio and product strategy management practices
- Help R&D professionals increase productivity by 30 to 50 percent
Customer Reviews:
Close to real life, but sounds like a Sales Pitch.......2005-08-05
As an IM professional in R&D system solution, I'm amazed how this book is so close to real life R&D management situation. I liked MacGrath's summary of the history and the comprehensive finacial management part. Most of the suggestions in the book have been already put into practices for years. Upfront? Yes. Next Generation? No. This is more of a project management book for R&D, no real coverage of product life cycle management(PLM) and its integration with project/program and resource management. Well, this disconnection reflects the current industrial situation anyway. However, I expect him to elaborate it more since this is a "next-generation" book.
It brought to my attention that MacGrath is actually running a software business in this area. Maybe it is the reason why he does not disclose any real business cases but using a hypothetical company - a major pit fall of this book. Inevitably he is hiding some of the real details which is preventing himself to convince the readers. Yet he want to sell his concept and you will have to find out the nitty-gritties maybe only by evaluating or purchasing his nice to have software products.
Cause of troubles.......2005-07-14
After reading the first 150 pages of this book, I feel this book and this "kind of thinking" is really the reason for trouble in companies. The books is completely ignoring the human or team sides or product development and that way tries to sub-optimize organizations. The most interesting is that is uses an example of sofware development, a area where the difference between individual (resources) have been recorded as huge and close teamwork on a teak which works together is recommended. (e.g. Read: "Dynamics of software development, Jim McCarty). Having a resource manager decide which resources area added to which product, and then ensure that all the time people work on the most important project, sounds all like a good idea but is also the descruction of the thing so important in product development.
Some other things interesting, in the beginning the author uses the success of MRP systems as an example of the success of automated planning systems. Did the author read anything about lean production in companies and the effect on MRP systems? It seems not.
The author also all the time uses very strong language and does as if much statement he makes are obvious. The calculation made in the book are based on speculation.
The book also does not mention any case study of where such a system is actually implemented. The book seems to be more fiction about some good ideas of the author.
Recommend: Buy this book, read it and remember it! But please not try to implement it in any company.
Good and clear message.......2004-12-14
A must read for anyone involved in product development.
A clear proponent of modern solutions like Arena Solutions OnDemand Product Lifecycle Management.
Buy the book and begin..........2004-05-03
Review of:
"Next Generation Product Development" by Michael E. McGrath
The last paragraph of Michael E. McGrath's newest book "Next Generation Product Development" boldly states that "product development has never been for the faint of heart." And I suspect that most everyone who has ever been involved in such activities will quickly shake their head "yes" to this "truth" statement, and quietly wish there was a better way. Fortunately in his new book McGrath guides us to this better way--a way that offers "more opportunity and promise for getting better new products to market faster, WHILE DOING MORE WITH LESS." The claim is nothing short of a renaissance of product development capability.
I like this book a lot. I like the multi-faceted emphasis on integration. I like the productivity theme and the need for new management processes. And I like the idea that we are only beginning the renaissance of product development capability, especially given the growth of collaborative development.
I confess that I do not like the continued use of the DCM abbreviation (it stands for "development chain management.)" But I suppose I can learn to live with another "alphabet name" because it does get to the heart of the matter--how to manage a lot of INTERDEPENDENT projects, all of which are going on at the same time. Of particular importance are McGrath's thoughts involving a "networked team," new concepts which I think will be fundamental to tomorrow's successful product development.
To join this renaissance, exactly where does one begin? McGrath offers three entry points: changes in resource management, changes in project management, or changes in strategy management. I suppose someone will try all three at once, but frankly just one is probably a lot for an organization to swallow. For different entry points McGrath offers us guidance, with levels of maturity assessments and/or stages of implementation. But even still, there is a lot of material to assimilate and multiple readings of many book sections will be needed to fully comprehend his recommendations.
However I suggest that you don't spend an excessive amount of time studying. Organizations mainly learn by doing, and this book lays out the "learn by doing" path toward success. Past generations of development have emphasized invention, project management, or time-to-market. This next generation is a path toward productivity within the entire development enterprise. It is a path toward "better decision making, better investment in R&D, better return on that investment, more collaboration with external partners, and true empowerment of development activity."
I suggest that you buy the book and begin.

A Clear and Compelling View of the Next Generation in PD.......2004-04-27
Michael McGrath has done it again. He has articulated a clear and compelling description of the next major generation in product development - the R&D Productivity Generation. The new generation builds on the major accomplishments of the last generation, which McGrath calls the Time-to-Market Generation. Whereas the TTM Generation primarily focused on getting individual products to market as quickly as possible, the R&D Productivity Generation will focus on the most effective and productive use of a company's total R&D capability (both internal and extended enterprise) to drive overall corporate revenue, profit and market share.
During the TTM Generation from 1992 to 2000, benchmarking studies determined that the R&D Effectiveness Index (the ratio of new product profit to R&D investment needed to create new products) doubled from 0.5 to about 1.0 across all industries. Over the next ten years, McGrath forecasts that the R&D EI will double again to 2.0 driven by the processes and systems of the R&D Productivity Generation. The message is clear. Companies that lead the way in implementing the R&D Productivity Generation will gain significant competitive advantage in the market place.
Through out the book, McGrath illustrates the new processes and systems using an example company, Commercial Robotics, Inc. CRI is a hypothetical company, but represents the kind of advances that are now being made at many different corporations. The example gives compelling evidence for the benefits that accrue to a company that systematically implements the new R&D Productivity Generation.
For all committed to product development excellence, from senior management to individual contributors, the Next Generation Product Development is a clear view into the future and what it will take to be world class in the decade ahead.
