Not up to date with game.......2004-11-17
This book is useful for its strategy discussions, but much of it is now incorrect. Ceritfications have changed and mechs in core combat have changed the landscape of planetside - they are not mentioned in this book. This book also treats Planetside as combat across multiple continents, not the planets connected by jump gates in the current game.
It is what it is. Don't expect too much & you'll be happy........2003-06-26
Why jmu would use his review space to bash Prima is beyond me. Here's a clue: Planetside is persistent, on-line world. Books are permanently printed on paper. Of course they're not going to put hit points and other hard numbers about weapons, armor types etc. BECAUSE THEY CHANGE. They've changed already and the game has only been out a month. As the developers see fit, weapons change, vehicles are added, base attributes change, objectives are modified, etc. To put it all down in a book, print that book, and then have to change that book every time the devs come up with an update is simply cost prohibitive. If you really want to know about hard numbers, check the website . . . OFTEN.
another ... excuse for a strategy guide from prima.......2003-06-05
I'm a big fan of the planetside game so naturally when I heard that the book store where I work had gotten in a copy of this strategy guide I was anxious to see it. I was very very dissapointed. The 'strategies' presented in the guide involve more common sense than anything, with such gems as 'crouch while firing' and 'strafe to avoid being hit'. As far as game information the guide has very little you can't find in game, there are no hard numbers on any of the weapons or vehicles as far as damage, rate of fire, and other things are considered, instead the guide uses relative numbers (1 is the worst, 5 is the best) to 'rate' each weapon in each category. As far as maps of the game world go, they are in black white just like the rest of the book, but the contrast is so low that you can't tell whats on them and they are much to small to prove any use as far as planning goes. The facility maps are even worse and are little more than screen shots of the minimap from ingame. Overall I'm really dissapointed but I guess I shouldn't expect much more from a company that consistantly puts out lackluster material.

The Disney Way Fieldbook.......2006-11-03
the first thought is ....WHAt is DREAM, BELIEVE, DARE, DO ?????????
Where is the mouse??? Then before long it pulls you in and you are hooked!
As a role playing book team approach, i think for private business the concepts are perfect for team building . need to look real close at a missing link that is EQ (Emotional Intelligence).
This part will go along with the 7 habits of highly effective People and should be showcased as well.
It is not a ONE item of management fits all here, rather a blend of different skill set that can be brought to the table for employers and employees to learn from and grow together while achieving a better understanding of how we can better work, live, and succeed together.
Excellent Companion Title.......2006-06-26
The Fieldbook is an excellent companion book to The Disney Way, and gives tons of helpful hints and exercises for implementing new Disney Way methods of organizing or structuring your business culture, so to speak. As a trainer, I found it extremely helpful, and highly recommend it.
Practical magic.......2000-12-12
This engaging and enlightening book is as much fun to read as it is profitable to use. Structured like a theater script and written with a dramatic verve, it casts teamwork as human drama, and taps and energizes team members' innate will to succeed not just as individuals but as members of a group. This book, and its companion volume "The Disney Way," really stand out from the business book pack in their passion, good humor, and advice on creating the practical magic that makes a team even greater than the sum of its parts. Authors Capodagli and Jackson are really onto something with their "Dream, Believe, Dare, Do" guiding principles, and their business-wise and human-wise insights make their work essential reading for leaders of all types.
Finally a book that's specific!.......2000-11-04
As a consultant myself that works with cross-functional teams, it is great to finally come across a book with proven activities that really work! This is a great tool to add to your repertoire. Individual activities are spelled out in terms of the benefits they provide, the materials required and specific guidelines on how to conduct them. This is a great contrast to the plethora of books on the market that promise great activities but provide nothing of value.
Extremely useful.......2000-09-20
An extremely useful collection of tools. I'll use this book in my teaching and training and recommend it to others.

Mickey Rocks.......2006-02-07
Interesting book with good insights- many of which you will also find in toher books, but here presented along with a history of their development within Disney.
The book is easy to read, and has something for all to learn.
Dreaming Big is the First Step .......2005-11-27
Many books are produced by firms to act as sales tools for their products. This book falls into that category. Capodagli and Jackson present many personal success stories to show how their firm has saved companies. However, aside from this bias, this is a very good book for the times.
They have researched, as outsiders, the inner workings of Disney to glean the principles that have made Disney great. Disney is a great choice for a business model. Its repeat business and low turnover is its industry's gold standard. It has constantly advanced on many fronts from its inception, till Walt's death in 1966. Then the company slowly started to fall apart for two decades until it was revived by Michael Eisner (CEO) and Frank Wells (President) who in 1984 re-established the fundamental principles Walt had set in place.
Walt Disney put it this way, "I dream, I test my dreams against my beliefs, I dare to take risks and I execute my vision to make these dreams come true."
If you are desiring some extrapolation on the above statement and would like additional fresh observations of the authors, you will love this book. I especially enjoyed learning how Walt turned his whole company into a very-willing idea/dream machine, and how that he also realized that from the customer's perspective, every employee is the company.
May I also recommend The Experience Economy and Pour Your Heart Into It.
Five Stars
Dream, Believe, Dare, Do!!.......2004-03-21
Those four simple words are at the root of the Disney business philosophy, established by Walt himself and carried on by Michael Eisner. I found this book to be both entertaining and informative. The business principles outlined by Capodagli and Jackson seem like simple, common sense - but bear repeating numerous times until more businesses adopt them. Principles like encouraging innovation and even failure, since you learn how *not* to do something...building on the strengths of your employees (development plans instead of demeaning performance appraisals) ... all will make any business work better. I found numerous ideas here that I will be applying in my workplace as well as to my personal life. This is a must-read for any manager who wants to motivate his or her team to really excel - and for any employee who wants to be his or her personal best.
A BUNCH OF MOUSE CRAP!!.......2004-02-29
In other words...kiss the guests A-- and treat them the way we show you in this book. As for employees just make sure they say yes to everything with a smile. Plain and simple. I actually worked for "house of the mouse" as we call it in Florida. Basically if you are not an enternainer (costumed mainly) you dont get treated as well. Your pay is almost in peanuts. Universal is NOT much different. At Disney WAY to many brown nosers and back stabbers. If you want a company like that then hey this is the book for you ;-)
Where's the beef?.......2003-07-25
In 30 words or less...vague. Not for those who want a real deep look inside the Disney company's way of doing business. This is a rock skipping across the water...

not quite there..........2007-05-22
The idea behind this book is certainly good (I got really excited when I first saw this), but to be honest, I finished this book feeling very disappointed. It's a cute book, but was rather empty and certainly didn't spark my creative side. I'd suggest buying "Walt Disney Imagineering: A Behind the Dreams Look At Making the Magic Real", as looking at the Imagineers ideas and accomplishments will get your creative juices flowing long before "The Imagineering Way" will.
Fun and functional.......2007-01-09
Looking to ignite some fires at your office because the team cant stand their ideas getting squashed by the man? Buy multiple copies of the book, write a little forward tailored to each of the recipients including the boss and let them know there will be a quiz. Make sure you remind them about the quiz and administer it. Even if the boss doesnt read it the employees will feel valued and that might keep the good ideas flowing long enough for you to find a more fulfilling job elsewhere.
Seriously though, quick read with great ideas to generate new ways to approach how to get projects moving again. Has it helped us here at ... yes to a point.
Nice short read........2006-01-04
The Imagineering Way Ideas to Ignite Your Creativity is an interesting, enlightening, and inspiring look at the creative process that the Imagineers of Walt Disney World go through when tackling one of their larger than life problems. Whether you're an engineer, artist, musician, or anything in between, this book will definitely help you in solving problems creatively on the job or in everyday life.
While the anecdotes that are provided in the essays are entertaining, the overall message to be gained from this book is to stop talking about doing things and start doing them, even if it isn't the right solution to the problem at hand, just start doing something.
Reading this has provided me with many ideas, and hopefully the kick in the pants I needed to start doing something.
:).......2004-11-05
I've wanted to be a disney imagineer since i was 5 and i am almost done with my degree in mechanical engineering. all this book has done is made me want to be a imagineer more than ever!
It made me weep..........2004-02-26
This book made me weep. It isn't fair that there is a place to work like this. I spend my days having my ideas ridiculed.
The book is enjoyable and inspiring. Recommended. Wish more companies treated their employees like Disney does their Imagineers.

Best All Around Disney Book.......2007-05-15
I've read the Gabler, Thomas, and Manheim (Quest for Community) books, and about 3 other books on Walt, and this was the best. Fantastic!
The Best Biography of Walt Disney Hands Down.......2003-09-26
Easily the best biography out there on Walt Disney hands down. It will never be topped. It neither kisses his hiney as Bob Thomas' studio sanctioned biography does, nor does it discount him as merely a low brow populist (as Richard Schickel did), nor lies about him as some sort of communist spy in order to sell books. Not only is this biography even handed, but Mr. Watts makes brilliant connections between Walt and his time that no other biographer had the insight to do. This is a fair, balanced, well organized, incredibly entertaining biography that really brings the real Walt Disney to life. Steven Watts is a genius biographer.
Walt Disney would have approved it!.......2003-06-12
I have read 4 biographies about this man ("An American Original," "The Disney Version," Mosley's "Disney's World: A biography," Eliot's "Hollywood's Dark Prince") and now I realize that I should have acquired this book before, so I wouldn't need to read all of the above stated books.
This book provides Walt's personal story, studio development, good and bad critics, Disney's place in history and his shaping of American culture. It is not biased, but gives a balanced view on a man and his company. It made me believe in this book, since I was very sceptical towards "truths" written in other Walt Disney biographies. In those, Walt was portrayed as either a perfect person, or a villain of the 20th century.
The Magic Kingdom is the balanced truth and the best biography of a man that shaped American culture without a doubt.
most in-depth biography yet.......2002-05-11
far and away the most in-depth biography ever written about a truly great great man. While reading it, you get the sense that you are there, shoulder to shoulder with Walt Disney while he and his brother, and his employees build an amazing company. Also provides the context wherein the company was being formed, and the trials and trevails that preceded building this great company. Any Disney fan would NOT be disappointed.
And now the Disney-sanitized academic view.......2001-09-30
I've probably read every book on Walt Disney. Most are carefully vetted by the studio and manage to tell exactly the same story. There's nothing wrong with that--there are no lies, just spin. Some of the books that are less "controlled" are more fun, however, like Jack Kinney's memoir "Walt Disney and Other Assorted Characters." Some that shake off the Disney thought police do so out of malice--Marc Eliot's "biography" of Walt Disney was deliberately mean-spirited and inaccurate, in my opinion.
In the last 20 years, we've seen a new breed of Disney book emerge that puts Walt Disney in context of the larger cultural picture. These volumes are dense and uninviting, but their view in general is that Walt was an uneducated slug and the people who bought his schlock were no better than he. "Disney Discourse," for example, or "Vinyl Leaves." Well, this book appears to be the Disney people's answer: An imposing academic look at the cultural history of the Walt Disney machine by a bona fide academic who has been lavished with information from the studio's archives.
Personally, I think the truth is inbetween. If all you read are this book and Bob Thomas' excellent biography, you'll have the facts and the current Disney Company spin, but you'll be missing the healthy cynic's view. Leonard Mosley's biography, "Disney's World" or Richard Schickel's "The Disney Version" supply that, while still admiring their subject. Or, for an academic view of the creation of Disneyland that's less Disneyized than Watts, try Karal Ann Marling's "As Seen on TV."
