not good.......2002-02-27
...the first thing I see is that the front cover picture is all blurry. Plus the photos inside are all black and white. "worst book ever" as the comic book guy would say.
"I'd never lend my name to an inferior product" (Bart).......2001-09-15
Lots of effort, research and love for the hobby has made this book as excellent as it is. It's obvious that this piece is written by a true fan, which makes it all the more interesting. The book takes an exhausting look at the variety of Simpsons merchandise, with hundreds of photos and pricing information. I've never considered myself a collector, but browsing through the pages of this book made me want more items I can ever afford to buy. That's why having this guide is a nice substitute for having the real things.
As Flanders would say, "IT'S SCRUM-DIDDILY-UMSCIOUS!".......1999-12-03
Instead of History 101 this is SIMPSONS COLLECTING 101. It is a very well written, and highly entertaining book, for anyone who knows THE SIMPSONS are not related to OJ! It's not your basic "collecting book" but much more. Just an all around great book that makes me want to shout WOO HOO!
Outstanding!.......1999-11-29
I've been collecting Simpsons memorabilia for several years and have been following the Collecting Simpsons website since just after its inception. I can unequivocally say that Bill LaRue's book is AWESOME! Whether you are a beginner to the hobby or a veteran looking for some new collecting inspiration, this book covers Simpsons collectibles like no other written material available. The book is fun and easy to read, well organized and practically updated for free through the website. It's a must have for any Simpsons fan.
NO Simpsons fan should be without this book!.......1999-11-29
What can I say? This book is excellent! Just when I thought I had seen every item made regarding the Simpsons, turn the page, and there is something new! The book is highly organized, fun to explore, and will be a valuable resource for a long time to come. I really enjoy how the book is set up in two sections. The first half gives you an overview into the many different categories of Simpsons collectibles. Then the second half of the book is the higly detailed price guide, FULL of pictures! I truly recommend this book for any fan of the Simpsons!

Prime reading.......2004-09-02
Since 1999, Mr. Alvarez has done a great job of providing both the curious observer and hard-core fans a visual guide to the Transformers toy mythos. This addition is a particular triumph because of the wealth of photography of rare figures, both those whose presentation vary dramatically from their North American release and those never released outside of the Japanese market.
It really is a teaser for the community, to leave fans salivating for these rare items.
While the visuals are first rate and Alvarez does an admirable job of walking the reader through the significance and timing of each release, it's clear he is no writer. A lot of his writing borders on the banal, although he does a better job of conveying the message in this edition than he does in others in this series. But as this is really not intended as a great writen masterpiece, the superb organizational job more than compensates for the prose here.
This is a must-have for anyone with a passing interest in Transformers toys.
A good history lesson, but an uneventful book........2003-10-12
What I learn was the Transformers were put together by Takara from combining many different toy manufacturers line in Japan. Later in the early 80s a storyline was conceived through the cartoon series and a seperate comic from the existing toy products. This simply mean the story had very little to do with the early toy design. The problems I had with this book is it is not a very good as a toy catalog nor did it described the history in great detail. The writing is not very deep nor long, it just give you a lot of surface information that make you ask for more questions. Each chapter writing contents averaged only about a page long. There are no in depth analysis on the individual toys at all. For the image qualities: The photographs were horrible. The photographers need to learn about lighting and angle. You get a lot of pics of Transformers' boxes, unsharp close-up, reddish tint, redundancy, and a lot of white empty area. As a history book there is not enough for you to own this book, more of a library checkout. Takara's own "Welcome to the World of Transformers" as a toy catalog is much better. There is writing for each toy products and the photo is very professional, but it is in 95% Japanese's' text. I am somewhat happy with this book, but can not recommend it to a casual fan and it was done very generic.
Lots of pictures... and that's it.......2003-01-28
I bought the two guides and I don't see any improvement from one to the other.
A lot of pictures, some trade prices but that' s it.
I expected some explanations but for an "unofficial guide", there is not even a word about the previous transformers (diaclone, kronoform, etc) and/or all the fakes you can find.
There is also no chronology and more over as a european transfan I didn't see something about the european special releases.
In others words: it's every thing but a reference.
You would find much more info by surfing on personnal web sites.
I gonna keep the two books cause there are very nice pictures in them but it's very disappointing.
This sequel is a vast improvement over the previous guide.......2002-04-03
I liked the original book (80's through 90's) but this book is SO much better. The writting has improved although some dire humour is still there, the pictures are of a better quality and show more details of the variations. A lot of the Japanese Transformers i have never seen before as well as the white Astrotrain and Red Tracks for example. The price guide should really be dropped as it really isn't that neccesary. The only thing that is realy missing is the Programme and comic guides but there could be a chance he's saving that up for another book. It is a good continuation of the series and I'm looking forward to the 2nd edition of the origianl and the Beast Wars book keep up the good work.
Another excellent book.......2001-08-08
Lots of pictures to drool over, and lots of information that I did not know previously. If there are omissions in this one, I am not equipped to point them out. The price lists are still here, and I still consider them unneccessary. Don't use them as a guide if you're looking for a deal ...This is a minor quibble. This is a must have book for the Transformers fan.

My Little Pony Guide: Complete, User-Friendly, and Fun Fun Fun.......2007-08-23
This inventory is a toy collector (or kid's dream) come true! Each page is full of high quality, colored pictures with the name and description of the ponies IN YEAR ORDER of when they came out. A picture of the new in box ponies of EACH one is also featured at the bottom of the page!
This guide also feautres EVERY pony and My Little Pony piece from 2003-2007 when the book was published- If your little girl (or boy) loves the ponies, you would be at a loss to not purchase this book for them.
Can't afford to buy or purchase every pony out there? Well this would make a great addition to the pony collection and doesn't take up as much space and money as owning all the ponies!
Book is a WONDERFUL tool to have for collectors!.......2007-08-06
The pictures are nice and glossy with excellent descriptions of each item. SO many pages from the past few years of all the pony toys and playsets and she provides checklists next to each item! I was personally excited about getting this book and was lucky to get to meet Summer in person and have her sign it for me. :) I highly recommend this book. I will definitely be using it for years to come. Thanks so much Summer for a fantastic product!
FANTASTIC Resource for G3 Collectors!.......2007-06-22
This book is DEFINITELY worth it if you collect the current release My Little Ponies. Everything is very organized, with pictures of the different ponies both in their original packaging and removed from the box. Some even have detailed Cutie Mark pictures. There are notes about special European released items and the peculiar Mexican and Brazilian ponies, as well as those available for general distribution worldwide.
The only error I caught was a picture mix-up involving Fancy Hair ponies Royal Beauty and Rainbow Treat on page 112. Other than that, everything was perfect!
It is a fabulous paper resource to organize and catalogue one's collection.
This could also make a very good gift for children who like the My Little Pony toys, due to the pictures and interesting information, but beware--they could fall in love with one of the RARE ponies like Rosey Posey! ;) Of course, perhaps that would create a budding collector!
I can't wait to see a second or third edition as the My Little Pony line continues! Heaps of thanks to Summer Hayes for taking the time to get this guide together!
just got it today!!!!.......2007-06-22
this books even better than i thought it would be. my sister and i collect all these ponies since they came out in stores and we didn't know which ones we were missing. my mom wants us to sell them so we got this book so we could figure out what went with what because everything is all messed up and mixed up lol. this book is good for that because it tells you what comes with each pony and all their names and that stuff. The pics are all really nice and the whole book is in color with pictures of all the ponies both and in out of their boxes so its nice to just look at them. its a really big book , you could totally hit someone with and do some damage lol.if you love my little pony, this book is really fun!

Comparison shopping...........2006-09-10
I've noticed that a few people have said the book is worth reading but the price is steep. In my comparison shopping, I found the publisher on Ebay selling the book for $16.99 (plus shipping). Just thought I'd mention that here...I don't quit 'til I've found the best price and it's not always at Amazon.
This book has the POWER.......2006-08-08
This 57 page paperback edition of She-ra toys is well worth the pricey tag that comes along with it-- at first i was disappointed with the amount of pages for a $30dollar book- BUT almost every single page is colored-and there are excellent pictures of every She-ra MOTU character including crystal castle and the extra outfits and comic books.
Each of the characters has a page dedicated to them- in color- and a SMALL description of each; including what makes them more valuable and variations between year releases. Then there is a box to the right of the picture with a average price for a NIP (new in package), complete (with accessories etc), and loose (the figurine without all clothes/swords/etc). At the end of the book is one page dedicated to the Horde characters (minus Cat-ra & Entrapta who each had their own page). There are not prices for the Horde characters.
Some of the action figures are missing their accesories in the pictures but overall they are complete- a couple of them shown are NIP as well.
DePino also provides a concise introduction worthy of a standing ovation. I loved this guide and read it from front to back. I would recommened the book to She-ra collectors as well as Children/Teens of the 80s who had anything to do with these characters- a nice item to have and read.
The entire She-Ra toy line in paperback form.......2006-06-18
What an awesome book! Hillary DePiano has compiled an unbelievably thorough inventory of all the Princess of Power toys and related accessories that were released in conjunction with the She-Ra cartoon. "The She-Ra Collector's Inventory" features an introduction that summarizes the creation of the He-Man and She-Ra toy lines and cartoons. There is a page devoted to every She-Ra action figure that was ever released. In addition to photos of each action figure, DePiano also gives a brief description of each character and the special features of each toy (mobility, accessories, collector's pricing guide, etc.). There are also photos and descriptions of She-Ra playsets, books, fashion accessories, and other Princess of Power merchandise.
This is an amazing book for anyone who is a serious She-Ra fan. I was a huge fan of the She-Ra cartoon when I was a child and I owned many of the different action figures and toys that are featured in this book. Sadly, most of those toys were lost or thrown out a long time ago, but now I can pick up this book and fondly remember all the fun my sister and I had playing with our She-Ra and Glimmer action figures and the Crystal Castle and Crystal Falls playsets. Those are some of the best memories of my childhood, and now they're all available in this fabulous little book!
Some people have complained that this book is too pricey. I think die-hard She-Ra fans will gladly shell out the money for a book as awesome as this! The only disappointment I had is that the book is almost more like a pamphlet because the cover is so flimsy. Maybe DePiano will consider releasing a hardcover edition that includes info on all the She-Ra DVDs that are in the process of being released.
If you loved She-Ra as a child, you really need to buy this book. It's the next best thing to owning every single She-Ra action figure that ever existed...and how many people actually have all that stuff?! NONE! Buy this book...you'll be so glad you did!
A must have for all Princess of Power She-Ra collectors.......2006-01-18
This is the ideal book for collecting or selling She-Ra action figures. It is very complete and full of very interesting informations. Hilary made a great work with this book. The price guide is very close to reality. You won't find best book on this topic. So you will not regret buying it.
Enjoy !
Brings back memories......!.......2006-01-13
I have been looking for a guide such as this for some time now as She-Ra is my favourite toy from my childhood. Just browsing through the book brought all the memories flooding back. The pictures are fantastic and the listing of all the action figures, accessories and playsets would be very helpful to the collector. There is also a fab introduction and notes on other dolls such as Golden Girl and He-Man. The seller delivered really quickly for an international sale too, and was very friendly in all communication. Well worth the money!

Customer Reviews:
Great book, but out-of-date.......2007-05-28
I actually worked with Alex Bove on updating a book on estate planning, when I practiced law in Boston many years ago. I purchased this book back in 1996 (the date of the current edition), but since then the laws have changed several times, most notably in February 2006, with the enactment of the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. As a result of those changes, many of the examples and planning suggestions discussed in Bove's book no longer work. For example, all rules relating to gifting, penalty periods, look-back periods, "half-a-loaf" planning, and annuities, have been radically changed. Do not rely on the examples in the book!
That being said, his material on durable powers of attorney, trusts (other than the Convertible Trust, which no longer works), gift taxes, general eligibility requirements, and ethics of Medicaid planning, is still worth reading.
For an example of a book that incorporates all the latest changes in the law, together with case studies and numerous cutting edge planning ideas, take a look at How to Protect Your Family's Assets from Devastating Nursing Home Costs: Medicaid Secrets. It's pricey, but well worth it when you consider all the information and ideas packed into it!
Woefully out of date........2007-04-28
While I own this book (I bought it ten years ago) it is now very much out-of-date. The law of Medicaid is one that is constantly in flux, changing just about every year. Recent changes to Medicaid law have made every book on the subject of Medicaid published before January 2007 obsolete. While this book and its author, Mr. Bove provided a great overview of the Medicaid planning process and for many years was the go to book to learn about Medicaid and the nursing home, today it is woefully out-of-date. For an example of an up-to-date book with information for all 50 states see: The Medicaid Handbook 2007
Not Topical.......2006-11-11
The book fairly explains the complexities of Medicare. However, many changes have been made in Medicare since the date this publication was printed. The book should be updated to reflect the recent changes.
Worthless after Feb 8, 2006.......2006-08-24
Dear Worried Reader,
On February 8, 2006, President Bush signed a law called the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005. This law makes sweeping changes to the ability of seniors to transfer (gift) any assets to their children and grandchildren. Following the advice of any book written before that date can cause a catastrophic loss of Medicaid privileges when a senior citizen is most vulnerable..when they actually enter a nursing home. Do not use this book as a reliable guide to current law. elder law attorney Chicago, IL
Thanks to Mr. Bove.......2005-09-21
The information in this book is easy to understand and extremely valuable. It saved my family thousands of dollars by helping me get Medicaid for my father.
Customer Reviews:
Give it a try before you buy.......2007-01-29
I may well be alone here, but I failed to find the author's style 'humorous and engaging.' I found it awkward and off putting. So be warned: read over a few pages and a few lame jokes before you commit your money.
Practical Retirement Advice.......2007-01-13
Important practical advice for those headed towards retirement. Boomer or Bust provides readers the information they need to financially prepare for their retirement. A clear, concise and enjoyable read.
Don't Pass This One Up!.......2007-01-02
A great, easy to understand, resouce on retirement financial planning. For baby boomers like me, who do not have a lot of free time to read, this book highlights the "Need To Know" areas to make a smooth and economically sound transition into retirement.
Essential Information Made Easy to Understand.......2006-12-21
Most Boomers are torn in so many directions they just don't have time to investigate the crucial topics covered by "Boomer or Bust", which is why they are bound to make costly mistakes either with their own planning or that of their parents. Attorney Weisman, in his down to earth manner, makes complicated material easy to follow and even fun to learn about. Readers will feel quite empowered to take control over their own situations before they find themselves having to make difficult decisions or worse; while in crisis.
Informative and entertaining.......2006-12-12
Along with being extremely informative this book is a very enjoyable read. The author has an amusing style that keeps you engaged and hungry for more. As Alan Colmes states in his endorsement above, this "is as entertaining to read as it is practical."

Customer Reviews:
Initial dissapointment - 2 stars for now.......2006-03-05
I know next to nothing about long-term elder care, so I bought this book as an introduction. I have just started reading it (I am through page 71) and it is introducing a number of terms and concepts that appear to be very useful. However, I was startled by the sloppy financial analysis example on page 66. Entitled "Pay Now or Pay Later", it has the tone of sales material from a provider of long term elder care insurance.
The example compares a hypothetical client #1 with a hypothetical client #2. The unfortunate client #2 has not bought inflation protection. The example "demonstrates" that client #2 will be far behind client #1 in the first and all subsequent years of needed care. The premium dollars client #2 "saved" over 20 years appear to have been buried in the ground, as not a single additional dollar of investment earnings from the reduced premium is subsequently credited to client #2. This example is biased towards a recommendation to buy inflation protection through the unrealistic investment behavior of client #2. Someone familiar with the insurance industry should know about the added value of a annuity-like stream of dollars over 20 years.
I will post an updated review when I am further along in my reading ...
Awesome Book -- A Must Read For Every Baby Boomer.......2005-11-30
This book is excellent, and opens your eyes to the very real possibility of encountering a serious 'health event', now, or in years ahead, and with no plan for financing this near certainty. As a nation, we mistakenly have believed that Medicare or Medicaid will be there for us. WRONG! Phyllis Shelton is leading the pack in helping to cast light on this all important subject. This book can arm you with the right questions to ask, and the right direction to look. You won't be disappointed.
Detailed and Informative.......2005-09-02
This is a very detailed report on what happens when you get ill later in life and Medicaid or Long Term Insurance are necessary. The book has a great deal of facts, but is somewhat hard to follow and very complicated - just like Medicaid actually is. If you want to prepare yourself for very possible situations in your (or your parents') senior years - this is the book for you. Just make sure you have enough time to read and understand it.
Phyllis is the "Queen Bee" of the LTCI industry!.......2003-06-05
No Financial Planner in their right mind should be without Phyllis Shelton's latest book on Long Term Care. She continues to jam-pack this book with great information on a subject that so many know so very little about. It's no wonder that she has been described as "the most prolific trainer in the long-term care insurance marketplace."
