Book Description

When Black Is OK!, Andras Adorjan’s first book, was originally published in 1988, it became an immediate bestseller and a cult classic. In this follow-up, his message remains just as emphatic: too many chess players adopt an unnecessarily defensive approach with the Black pieces. Instead, they should strive immediately for double-edged positions with winning chances. Adorjan offers concrete opening variations and illustrative games to support his claim.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A very good book, but a very bad proofreader..........2005-03-25

This book is a sequel to "Black is OK", a book that I never read but became something of a cult classic. I bought this book because I had seen some positive reviewes somewhere.

Reading the book, you get a distinct feeling of Adorjan's passion for his topic, and he does so in a way that is both enthusiastic and infections. But the book has one MAJOR problem. And actually, the proofreader isn't the problem -- it is that someone didn't check the "global replace" feature. All throughout the book, every instance of the word "black" is in ALL CAPS... It is humorous and cute in some places, but rapidly grows old and turns into a distraction from the fine work Adorjan did in putting this book together. Although it is annoying, I still recommend this fine book and I hope that it does as well for Adorjan (a fellow Hungarian! :) )as his other book has done.

The Don Quixote flag on the cover is cute, too. And it's in BLACK...

                5 out of 5 stars Great Overview.......2007-04-25

4 out of 5 stars The Best of Its Genre.......2007-02-03

"Casino Operations Management" is the best book on the market now focusing on operational issues that confront casino managers. It is arguably "too much" for an undergraduate course, but the book is highly recommended for casino managers who want to strengthen their understanding of what makes a casino really tick. Those simply interested in in-depth knowledge of the industry's operational issues will also find the book helpful.

                4 out of 5 stars casino operations.......2006-06-30

This book is a must read for everyone entering the casino business. It's a clear reference, and it shows derails some myths about gaming operations.

                5 out of 5 stars Great read.......2005-06-14

This books assumes you know nothing about Gaming Operations and goes from there, taking you on an in-depth exploration of the gaming industry, from it's beginnings through modern-day operations. This book was highly beneficial. I also read "The Gaming Industry: Introduction and Perspectives" from the UNLV International Gaming Institute, both of which I would strongly recommend. Well written and dives to the appropriate level of detail.

                Book Description

Over the years a number of books on casino operations have been written but the subject of Slot Operations has been neglected. A definitive guide to Slot Operations has been sorely needed by the gaming industry. The wait is over with the publishing of this book!

Slot Operations: The Myth and the Math is the definitive guide to slot operations that will soon become the industry's bible on this subject. This book is authored by Richard Lehman, a former vice president of slot operations at a number of resorts including Caesars Palace. Mr. Lehman is a slot expert who consults on this subject worldwide.

The book describes the rapidly changing slot industry with a true insiders viewpoint. Slot Operations covers topics such as slot departmental organization, personnel issues, policies and procedures of the slot department and all current slot operational issues in casinos today. The book continues and gives a detailed look at slot development with a great chapter on slot analysis. The book also gives detailed information on slot player tracking systems and their integrated usage.

4 out of 5 stars Good Information but dated.......2007-04-25

Slot Operations gives a good overview of the slot operations and sample polices and procedures. However, the information is somewhat dated and does not deal with TITO (Ticket In - Ticket Out) which is now used in place of coin in most casinos, multi-denomination, and multi-game machines. Still I haven't found a better book on the subject.

                1 out of 5 stars A symplistic presentation of a complex subject........1998-10-25

This book should be considered for a "young readers" level. After completing (1 hour) you will not have any more practical knowledge on this subject than what you could gain by walking through a casino and observing. At $61.00 this book is overpriced by $55.00 when measured against value. If you are serious about this subject try "Casino Operations Management" by Kilby/Fox (best) or "An Introduction To The Casino Entertainment Industry" by Eade.

                2 out of 5 stars Not a good text.......2002-06-30

This book is not worth purchasing if you have any knowledge whatsoever of the hotel industry. It attempts to cover too many topics in too little space and fails to penetrate the surface of any given issue. I think that it is probably too much to ask that an in depth analysis of an industry as diverse and complex as the hotel industry be compiled into a single volume.

                5 out of 5 stars UPDATE?.......2000-02-20

A good book...But needs an updated version....1993 is a long time ago

From the supplier: Embassy Suites Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL, focused on a two-pronged approach in complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Creativity played a key role in the hotel's compliance decisions, as exemplified by the use of bright colors which are both decorative and functional in aiding visually impaired guests to identify doorways and walls. Other initiatives include gradually inclined ramps and the use of lighted strips, specialized elevators and frame-style beds. Hotel staff also underwent awareness training geared toward extending quality service to handicapped guests.
