Customer Reviews:
Very high quality book.......2007-09-19
This book provides a really outstanding collection of quilt patterns based on the theme of roses. The quilt artists interpret the rose motif in a variety of ways in each of their quilts, which is very unique and inspiring. These quilts make clever use of rose colored fabrics and fabrics with rose motifs that will remind you of a rose garden interpreted in fabric. The cover applique quilt is truly spectacular, however, all of the shapes can be appliqued by a beginner. The only challenge in making these quilts is finding the right fabric.
Visually Stunning.......2007-05-13
This is a spectacular collection of beautiful quilts and pillows. It is definitely not for a beginner quilter. There are a lot of pieces for almost every project in the book. I was disappointed that the paper piecing templates did not have color placement guidelines. Painless Paper-Piecing is a new way to paper piece without having to rip off all those pesky foundation papers. Preparation is necessary, but the results amazing.
A DOZEN ROSES comes filled with different ideas and variations perfect for quilters who love flowers........2007-05-12
Jennifer Rounds and Catherine Comyns' A DOZEN ROSES: BEAUTIFUL QUILTS AND PILLOWS offers some eight quilt projects from a sampler and baby quilt to a coverlet, plus four coordinating pillow designs to be used with such quilts. Packed with full-page photos of finished quilts, inspirational roses from real-life, and diagrams and patterns, A DOZEN ROSES comes filled with different ideas and variations perfect for quilters who love flowers.
An Abundance of Projects!.......2007-03-19
It is rare to find a quilting book that has more than one or two projects that appeal to me. In "A Dozen Roses," there are six that I'm already buying fabric for! The quilts are beautiful and reflect an artful style that is easy to achieve for quiltmakers who buy this book. There are instructions for coordinating projects - simple but which add just the perfect touch. Knitters will love the knitted pillows. The authors have put together a fantastic book, with great tips and techniques. Love it!
Gorgeous and Inspiring!.......2007-02-23
This book is so lovely and it contains a wide variety of quilting and sewing projects for people of all ability levels. The photography is beautiful and the instructions for each project are very detailed and precise.
One great thing about this book is that there is a wide range of projects for everyone. Some of the projects are traditional (such as the Bed of Roses Baby Quilt) and others are more modern and funky (such as the Roses and Ribbons Strips Pillow). There are projects that could take several months to finish and others that could be completed in a matter of an hour or two.
The authors also explain the inspiration behind their projects and give interesting background information. For example, the Rose of Havana Quilt was inspired by Azulejo tiles from the Moorish period in Spanish history. There are also many interesting legends relating to roses scattered throughout the book.
I love this book and enjoy flipping through it to look at the gorgeous projects. I think my first project will be the Rose Petal pillow to add a romantic touch to my bed.

Customer Reviews:
beautiful.......2006-01-08
I give this book four stars because of the beautiful artwork and wonderful recipes. Very beautifully illustrated and simple to follow. However I have one complaint: most of the herbal recipes call for mugwort which I cannot find. I haven't yet tried any of the recipes in here because of that but in my opnion it is very original and definitely a keeper.
Making Herbal Dream Pillows.......2005-07-13
Wonderful book! Jim Long has done alot of research into the origins of the pillows. Very informative compact book.
Not bad, not great.......2004-05-22
The recipes for making herbal pillows are good. However, the book only gives you one instruction for sewing a pillow. I guess I was hoping for more than one style.
Making Herbal Dream Pillows.......2004-05-04
We had to read a "how to"book for a reading project.Make the item and present a "book report".I found the book very interesting and easy to follow. The blends were simple to make, tho I did have some trouble finding all the herbs I needed for my pillow.I will be presenting my project to my class at the end of this week.
Just what I ws looking for!.......2003-11-08
This book was exactly what I'd been looking for! It has lots and lots of recipes, segmented by 8 different types of blends:
Stress-reducing relaxng dream blends (5)
Pleasant dream blends (2)
Romantiv Dream blends (4)
Creative dream blend (1)
Traveling dream blends (2)
Great outdoors blend (1)
Holiday blend (1)
Prophecy blend (1)
In the beginniong there are instructions on how to make a blend (selecting flowers, preparing them etc) as well as a section on making the pillow - its very easy - make a small bag, put in the blend then sew up the other end. I'm going to lok for really pretty fabrics that match the type of blend I'm putting in. one thing I find interesting is that there are no essential oils used -the author doesn't recommend them saying that they're too unpredictable and can create unpleasant dreams if they turn.
The recipes all have info about the specific flowers being used, and info on if the belnd was an ancient formula or what the source was. Its pretty cool. The book itself is beautiful - lots of wonderful drwings/colors - quite dreamy in itself.
I highly recommend this book - lots of fun!

Elevating silk painting to a high art form, this lushly illustrated book turns simple scarf decoration on its head. Some of the painted designs are so intricately detailed they look almost like photographs; others resemble glorious watercolor paintings. Techniques and tools are clearly explained, as are working with color and exploring design ideas. Be forewarned, however: a good portion of the book is devoted to advanced techniques, so the novice silk painter may not be able to jump right in. But for those with some prior experience, this volume really shines as a source of instruction and inspiration.
Customer Reviews:
A great book to have.......2004-04-13
I hope this book will be back in print. It is beautifully illustrated and shows more than the standard silk painting techniques. The author introduces us, step-by-step, to various Asian techniques, which are really interesting. This book is written for beginning and advanced silk painters, so she also discusses the advantages and disadvantages of various dyes, waxes and resists, how to use them on various silks, and which tools (both Western and Asian) work best -- accompanied by lots of photographs so that you know what she is talking about.
It's a book worth having.
Moyer's two books are the best available on silk painting.......1999-04-04
This is Moyer's second book. You need to understand her first book well before getting this one. But then DEFINITELY get it. Several other silk painting authors have followed a good first book with terrible 2nd and 3rd ones. That is certainly not true of Moyer. This book is every bit as excellent as her wonderful first book.
This Book Just Keeps Working.......1999-01-30
This book contains a lot of basic, hands-on info on equipment and practical aspects of silk painting technique. What I have noticed most, is that everytime I go back to this book as my skill and experience increase, I grasp and learn more. Things I didn't pick up at all on from my earlier readings suddenly become real and make sense. This book concentrates heavily on wax, gutta and screen printing techniques. Roketsu-zome and alcohol techniques are covered in a very step-by-step, practical way. There is a lot of surface design, as well as garment design info. If you are interested in block printing, bleach discharge, or shibori, you would do better to choose another title. Complex Cloth by Dunneworld is another fabulous textile book that covers almost every technique. Highly recommend!
The Number Two Book of Silk Painters.......1998-09-07
If you are a serious silk painter, this is the book for you. Beginners need to start with the first Susan Moyer book which contains a plethora of info for those just starting. If you silk paint as a hobby or just for fun, this is it! Suusan Moyer obviously loves silk as much as you do!

Customer Reviews:
Great Book with lots of Step-by-step photos.......2006-06-24
I really liked this book. Not only does it include great photos of the finished project, it has photos of the sewing steps, not just a lot of text. I've sewn several pillows and shams in the past, but I wanted something that had a variety of choices and pillow options. Sometimes it's difficult to think of creative ideas for pillows and cushions, but there are some in this book that are new. I found the directions easy to follow and the photos help tremendously. There are heart-shaped pillows, pet beds, bean bags, cushions with piping and trim, even chair covers for upholstered chairs, sofas, plastic garden chair and director's chairs.
Definitely recommend

Customer Reviews:
Mr. Internet says do not purchase!!!!.......2007-02-13
I have worked on several projects developing E-commerce sites. I am currently in a project management MBA program and purchased this book as alearning tool. The author knows nothing about the Internet. You will not learn anything from this book. If you must spend the money buy a pack of gum for $23.00 and you will get more for your money!!!
This guide is the PMBOK improved and logical next step!!.......2004-05-22
This guide provides the detail and 'meat' that is terribly missed in the PMBOK. The PMBOK provides a foundation where as this guide will help you get to the 'what', 'when' and 'how' to apply a project management methodology. If you are running a project that involves software development, network infrastructure or any other techical project type, this guide will literally run you through the set up of your project, provide excellent tools for tracking and monitoring the project and reporting to senior management, and last but not least, step by step work instructions. I need to point out that this guide is valuable for ALL projects, regardless of the industry you are in - simply because it contains the detail that is so lacking in the PMBOK. I have used a number of the tools and applied-adapted some of the excellent work instructions in one of my projects. It was a tremendous help.
Practical and informative.......2004-05-07
At last a Project Management book that focuses on Internet related projects! This book has all the practical knowledge I needed. It covers the entire life cycle of the project from initiation to close out. The book is well organized and has some great examples which are easy to use and very informative. Highly recommend it to anyone who is managing the entire project or if you need to understand the overall process flow of any good project plan.

Customer Reviews:
A comprehensive approach to project management........2006-05-11
In the Project Manager's Desk Reference, Lewis presents a comprehensive approach to project management. He then goes through his model step by step from developing a concept to final project review and close out. The templates and additional models he uses along the way are extremely helpful. He addresses problem solving, risk management, and how to know when to pull the plug on a project. In the back of the book, there is a thorough checklist for project managers and a list of resources.
This book will be very helpful for anyone who needs to manage a project, expert and novice alike. The concepts and language are easy enough to understand for a novice, but so thorough that it will be useful to experts, too. The content tends to be more focused on projects dealing with research and design, product development, or something that is intended to be marketed and sold, rather than event planning. So event planner will probably want to look for another resource.
There is a wide range in regards to the suitability of graphics, textboxes, and tables. While some were extremely helpful and necessary, others were almost inappropriate, at best, or even distracting. The amateur nature of some of these graphics and textboxes only discredited the good context; but this book is an excellent book despite some of these things, but it would be even better without them. I would have also liked to see an appendix of the templates Lewis introduces throughout the book.
Indispensable reference material.......2003-10-04
Simple examples and clarity of expression help the reader to master even the most complex project management concepts. Be able to distinguish new and old earned value terminology as this edition uses the old language (e.g., BCWS, BCWP, ACWP vs PV, EV and AC). Otherwise excellent.
Ideal for those that want to be introduced to Project Manag........2002-09-07
Project Manager's Desk Reference is a complete, well-written guide about Project Management intended to college students and to any person not familiar with this subject.
The topics covered by this book include Project Planning, Scheduling (PERT), Controlling (Earned Value Analysis), Reporting/Evaluating and Risk Analysis. The book also discusses other subjects that certainly will be faced by the Project Manager, like how to Improve the Communication Skills, how to Solve Problems and Making Decisions.
This book is not intended to experienced managers that need more tools to conduct their projects. These people should look for specific books about the aspect of Project Management that they need to deep into, like Risk Management.
Solid.......2002-06-19
This is direct and to the point. Lewis' writing style is solid and very readable. He does not have a pretentious know it all attitude like so many authors have today. Not only is this an excellent desk reference, but it also can guide you through the essential concepts needed for effective PM duties.
Clearly Written and Easy to Understand.......2002-01-31
This book was a Required Book for a Project Management college course that I took. The book gives a good overview of the basic Project Management techniques that everyone uses, however, it does not get into real detail about some topics. It is good for the beginning Project Manager, or a student, but I wouldn't recommend it for someone studying for their PMP exam. The PMI PMBOK is a better reference for studying for the exam in my opinion
