Customer Reviews:
A typical release from the planescape team.......2000-05-02
The Planes of Chaos set seems to suffer from the same qualities & drawbacks as most of the planescape serie. What you get for your monney in the box is four booklet, the first one for the DM, the second one for the players,a very short monster supplement (probably the most interesting part of this set)and the last book is an adventure book filled with different scenarios for your players. This book, like so many dungeons & dragons book since the 2nd edition came out, follow the principle why make a book short and concise when you can make it longer and sell it for a higher price. To be more precise most of the information you will find in this book were already written in Jeff Grubb's excellent manual of the plane, and the remainder could have easily been condensed in a single 60 page book. However there are sufficient interesting elements to justify this purchase for the gamers who have a specific interest in the planes chaos and who aren't on a budget. Some of these features are : an excellent altough short monster supplement with great color illustrations by DiTerlizzi (introducing two new Tanari!), Some great maps, and interesting new descriptions of abyssal planes and the Pandemonium. Overall this is an okay book, but one I would only recommand it to fans of the topic and experienced players who will be able to use it to it's full extent.
good - but not great.......2000-04-17
The Planescape team isn't perfect. Not everything that they have done is brilliant. But even their relative failures are better than most of the stuff out on the market today.
'Planes of Chaos' isn't the best boxed set that the folks at TSR have ever done for Planescape. For that, you need to look at 'Hellbound: The Bloodwar', which is so good that it could stand alone as a campaign.
But 'Planes of Chaos' isn't terrible, either. Some of the sections on the nature of Limbo and the politics of the Tannar'ri are really, really good. Experienced planeswalkers will be looking for more, most likely, but as an expansion to a game like Planescape, where it's all in the mind's eye anyway, this box is good enough for jazz.
If you're dying to know a little bit more about travel conditions on Pandemonium, looking for a few new beasties to spring on berks who wander through the Chaos planes unprotected, or just want to get a bit more info on how the Githzerai and Sladdi really interact, buy this box. If not, save your money - and DON'T buy it for the art.
If you're really looking for a good investment, purchase the Planewalker's Handbook. No matter what you want to add to your game, it's got it. If you already own one, buy one for a friend. It'll make their day

Customer Reviews:
Hmm.......1999-06-24
I think Moore's story was strange, but good. It leaves you confused, and lost and wondering. Probably the worst stories were the Eyes of Chaos, the Noble Folly, and Lessons of the Land. The plots were boring.
Dragons of Chaos is just like the other anthologies........1999-03-27
Dragons of Chaos is the same as the other anthologies in the fact that some stories are great and others are truly terrible. This collection of short stories by various authors of the Dragonlance saga has some very good stories. Knaak's Son of Huma is great and so is the Dragon's Eye. But there are others that are simply boring and make you say "I wish I skipped that one." And most of the stories take place either after or before the Chaos war, not during it. But I have to say that Roger Moore's "There is Another Shore..." is probably the best story. It tells of two men who are whisked into a parallel dimension where the Cataclysm never happened! This was an awesome story and should have been a book. It deserves 5 stars itself. So pick up this anthology if just to read Moore's great short story.
It was exciting to find out some of the Dragonlace History........1998-09-22
The short stories in this book were very entertaining. They showed some of the things that I wanted to know after reading the chronicles and the legends. If anyone reads Dragonlance that wants to E-mail me go for it!!
Fine anthology.......1998-08-05
For a newcomer to Krynn and its world of Dragonlancers, THE DRAGONS OF CHAOS was a very interesting book to read. Stories are clear, concise, and both fun to read (Dragonfear) and almost sad (Son of Huma). Most likely the Krynn aficionado will be more appreciative of the finer nuances of THE DRAGONS OF CHAOS but I found it a delight to read.
The ongoing battle continues..........1998-04-14
I really like the way this series is going, and The Dragons of Chaos is no exception. There is lots of action, character development, twists in the plot, and finishing the book makes you anxiously wanting the next book of the series to come out.
Weis and Hickman give us just enough information on certain characters and events to get your mind thinking on what could happen - and then when it finally happens, it's very different than what you expected.
I have found Weis and Hickman to be consistently excellent writers, and I've read most of their other books. I felt it would be hard to come close to the success of their first Dragons series, but with such an excellent storyline, it will be close.
I definately suggest reading this anthology. What are you waiting for? Get it!

It's cool to play for dark paladin. It's amasing adventure in Dragonlance.
Its WAR, but not usual war of Good and Evil, no here paladin will save lawful evil lich. It classical war of Chaos and Law. If you ever test it you'll never forget it.
It's like the END OF THE WORLD!.......2000-04-07
Krynn had many hard times in a long hystory of wars and disasters. But in this book Chaos itself claims the life and the existence of all people on Krynn. In an epic conflict, a group of heroes must destroy the most terrible creation of Chaos, made only to kill and destroy the creation of the Gods. Li: Dynamic Form in Nature (Wooden Books)
ASIN: 0892814047
Release Date: 1993-05-01 |
Book Description
We live in a universe of apparent dualities: light and darkness, reason and romance, order and chaos. Exploring the interplay of form and energy, David Wade takes the reader on a journey through the world of successive ages--from Plato's conception of the ideal form and the ancient Chinese philosophy of change to the modern scientific view of structure and indeterminacy as embodied in the laws of physics.
The author shows us how perceptions about the nature of the universe are reflected in the art of of a given period. He details the form and fluidity of prehistoric art, the crystalline order of Islamic patterns, and the subtlety and vitality of Chinese landscapes and calligraphy.

The Title Says It All.......2007-03-08
I buy a lot of books about these current theories about the brain, consciousness, the cosmos...and how it all relates to art and creativity.
This book is especially good in bringing all of those together...following threads in many directions...and keeping them all connected by common idea of Symmetry. Definitely grounded on scientific information as well as knowledge of the symbolic, spiritual, mystical, and artistic associations. The author has an enthusiasm about this subject that is evident, and he wants to explain his insights and broad views in a way that will be clear and interesting. Excellent book.
Customer Reviews:
This has to be one of the most careless adaptions, EVER........2007-08-03
Before this book there were multiple versions of the Stormbringer (BRP) system, changed somewhat and renamed 'Elric!' and then changed back to Stormbringer again.
This book is nothing but a cut & paste job by a company obviously not at all interested or informed on making a d20 product.
There's two types of customers who may look at this product:
If you really are into Elric and want a faithful adaption, avoid this product. (Except maybe at the $4.99 level.)
If you know nothing about Elric and just want some wild ideas that are interesting (but ultimately busted), this product might prove a measure of worth.
I am the former, and my rating reflects this.
I guess the best way to describe just how careless the conversion was is to show some "stats" on a few saga personalities:
Dyvim Slorm (Level 8 Aristocrat/Level 7 Wizard)
(Um... didn't Slorm ride a dragon at the end and do pretty well with Mournblade? And when did he use magic?!? Didn't Melnibone fall when he was fairly young?)
Magum Colim (Level 4 Expert (Sailor)/Level 6 Fighter/Level 6 Wizard)
(What's up with another arbitrary wizard?)
And the tin foil hat award goes to...
Dyvim Tvar (Level 7 Fighter/Level 7 Wizard)
(So his son is an Aristocrat and he is not?!? And yet ANOTHER wizard. Grrr... anyone who has forgotten about Tvar's reaction to sorcery might want to read a few pages into "The Ship Which Sails Over Land and Sea" from "Elric of Melnibone" again. The terrible drawing of him and the gaggleload of "demon items" [he, and almost everyone has] only adds to all this.)
These are just the very basics. Seriously, do a google search outside of Amazon and you'll see what I mean.
Mediocre and rushed adaptation..........2002-01-18
I was very disappointed when this product came out.
Potentially it could have been the highlight of the early d20 system's open license, but the producers did a very 2nd rate job of putting together the materials.
The presentation was no better then a novice could've accomplished on a home pc. The artwork was old, the organisation was not updated at all for the new book and directly borrowed from prior products.
This setting is just waiting for someone who really cares to adapt it in a good light instead of rushing to make a quick buck.
I expected more from such a fine company as Chaosium.
A complete role gaming adventure.......2001-06-09
Based upon the popular Michael Moorcock fantasy novels, Dragon Lords Of Melnibone offers the players a complete role gaming adventure in a dark world where the forces of law and chaos clash. Players are provided with a complete description of this mystical world of Young Kingdoms and such strange races as Melniboneans and the Myyrrhn; magic and religion; demons, monsters, folk and heroes; and a gaming system that is riveting from first to last. Of particular value is The Dungeon Masters Companion section including reference guides for campaigns, mass combats, effects of chaos, scenarios, allegiances, three forces, enchantments, rumors, a character sheet template, and user friendly index. Wonderfully illustrated throughout, Dragon Lords Of Melnibone is a very highly recommended addition to any dedicated role gamer's reference and player collection.
I can only hope this is the beginning.......2001-04-27
For those that are NOT familiar with the idea, WOTC has offered an 'Open Game License' to any publisher that would like to contribute to the further growth of the d20 system that has been implemented with D&D3Ed.
Chaosium, the fine purveyors of Call of Cthulhu (for many many years) and the oft relaunched RPG versions of the Elric of Melnibone have thrown their hat in the d20 ring with this first offering.
DLoM is Elric d20... it's that simple. And the folks at Chaosium have not let us down. The package is tight, conscice and filled to the brim with vital info for running a d20 Young Kingdoms campaign.
All the main players atre faithfully presented, details for adapting Melnibonean and Pan-Tangean magic to the d20 formula and the surprising detail of summonings and pacts that were so vital to the Elric storyline all contibute to an amazing package.
If you love Elric, then this is the game for you... now... when do we get Hawkmoon and Corum?
Wow d20 Elric!.......2001-03-29
To be totally honest I have been waiting for this book for the last couple of months. Elric in the Dungeons and Dragons world brings back memories of playing as a kid with Deities & Demigods ( a book that I treasure to this day). Dragon Lords makes the Deit & Demi material look like a pamphlet. So much powerful source material. Stats for the dragons of Melnibone', Elric, & Stormbringer. New skills (conceal object), feats, (close-order fighting), races (full and half Melnibonean) and even new spells and weapons. The new alignment system seems very workable.
As with any new material, only thorough reading and hours of playing will show which aspects of the book will be inserted into your D&D world. This book is a great start to what will hopefully be a long line of d20 Melnibonean products.
Buy the book, then go reread Sailor on the Sea of Fate to get you ready for the world of Law and Chaos.

Alien Invaders and Time Travel: Why Not!.......2006-07-10
"Where Chaos Reigns" is another adventure created by TSRs UK team. Layout and graphic designs is similar to other UK adventures at this time, more specifically, modules UK 4 to 7.
In this strange, nontraditional adventure, the PCs homeworld is threatened by a technologically advanced race bent on dominating all worlds and civilizations they encounter. The race, known as the Oards, possess no magic, but have developed numerous technological devices of terrifying power. These include ray gloves, blasters, communication and time travel devices, and so forth. The PCs are approached by Immortals who wish to stop the Oard. They hope to accomplish this feat by getting the PCs to travel back in time to the Oards' homeworld. There the PCs will attempt to alter events so that the magic-using races the Oard destroyed will develop and evolve. Thus, these races will stop the Oard of the future from becoming so powerful. The module is divided into five time periods--from primitive to more advanced--for the PCs to travel to and manipulate events of that time.
This world-spanning adventure is very plot thick with PCs having to zoom from one time era to another. This adventure is a whole campaign in of itself. While the module is superbly crafted (as are all of the UK-created modules), the hook to get the players involved (the Immortal requesting a favor) is weak. It should be altered to reflect the DMs own campaign. Otherwise, the impact of the invading Oards will mean nothing to players that have little or no vested interest. A DM should also develop other eras to explore, expand the ones presented, and create introductory sections where PCs view the might of the Oard firsthand. Groups of Oard invaders could menace the PCs homeworld, reeking havoc, enslaving, and destroying everything, etc.
Note that this adventure's plot is similar to a number of Michael Moorcock novels, especially in the latter "Hawkmoon" series of books wherein Hawkmoon and his companions travel back in time to New London. Any of books are a great source of inspiration for development of this adventure.
Classic lost world adventure from the UK.......2000-04-30
If you liked S3 Expedition to the Barrier Peaks, you'll love this! In this classic UK adventure, the high-level heroes (17-19) must journey through time to a savage lost world that is being exploited by a nefarious alien race - masters of an eldritch magic known only as technology. Time itself has become corrupted, and the reality the PCs dwell in begins to unravel... interesting and very challenging!

Product Description
This monograph presents a challenge to the view that the Hebrew Bible contains allusions to Yahwehs battle with chaos, showing how the term has been inappropriately applied in a range of contexts where far more diverse spheres of imagery should instead be recognised. Through the construction of a careful diachronic model (developed with particular reference to the Psalter), the author presents a persuasive case for reversing common assumptions about the development of Israelite religion, finding instead that the combat motif was absent in the earliest period, whilst the slaying of a dragon was attributed to Yahweh only in a distinctive monotheistic adaptation, which arose from around 587 B.C.

Customer Reviews:
A Life Changing Book--Truly Transformational.......2007-04-21
I recently read on Google that a thousand books are published every day in the United States. However, in my opinion, there are only a very few that are personally transformational or life changing. My short list of books that changed my thinking or made me sit up and take notice includes:
"The Road Less Traveled by M. Scott Peck
"The Art of Selfishness" by David Seabury
"Man's Search for Ultimate Meaning" by Viktor E. Frankl
"Ideas Have Consequences" by Richard M. Weaver
"Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom
"Witness" by Whittaker Chambers
"Guide for the Perplexed" by E.F. Schumacher
"The Way of the Peaceful Warrior" by Dan Millman
"Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius
"The Lessons of History" by Will Durant
"Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill
"The Richest Man in Babylon" by George S. Clason
+ any books by Mortimer Adler and Eric Hoffer.
Now, I can add one more title to my list:--"The Highest Goal" by Michael Ray.
As a book junkie and an avid reader, I have skimmed and read many books, sometimes three or four times. Many of them have provided some wonderful insights and some new wisdom, but seldom does a book capture on every page profound thoughts and ideas of value. "The Highest Goal", in my opinion, does just that. When I read it, I took the time to underline key phrases and words, and wrote my own thoughts and ideas in the margins as well. After I was done, I was amazed at the number of entries I had made. For me, that is one important way to judge the value of a book. Moreover, the book is very well written in a clear and lucid style, and very well organized as well. Simple but quite profound, which is my highest accolade for a book.
I also call "The Highest Goal" a capstone book, which means for me, a book that brings together a lot of ideas under one framework. Michael Ray introduces eight simple life steps in his book and reinforces these life steps with a powerful mechanism he refers to as heuristics or "rules of thumb for insight and learning." What is truly powerful about these heuristics is that they are quite simple to understand and, of even greater importance, they are easy to put into practice on Monday morning--in business or in our personal lives. I believe this book can easily change the life of anyone who puts these eight life steps and heuristic "live-withs" into practice.
Here's my challenge to each of you. Buy the book, read it carefully, underline those ideas or thoughts that resonate with you, and in the margins write ideas or thoughts that are prompted by your reading. When you complete the book, I think you will be amazed at what has occurred. Michael Ray is a voice of value and his book is one to be shared with family, friends, and business colleagues. I would love to hear back from anyone who reads it. [...]
Clear look at why you should align your life.......2006-07-13
If you experience a lack of connection between what you love doing - what you are genetically and physically programmed to do - and your work, the misalignment can make you miserable. Author Michael Ray contends that life doesn't have to be that way. He guides you through some soul-searching steps to put you in touch with that one thing that really brings you joy. He calls this your "highest goal" - the quest that drives you to fulfill your purpose. He explains that you can think creatively, discover your highest goal, and steadily follow a path that leads to satisfaction, joy and meaning. We recommend this book to readers who are interested in self-help literature; Ray does a good job of explaining how to define your highest goal and get started on the path to achieving it.
Live with .......2006-03-01
Michael Ray, a professor at Stanford University, has some wonderful ideas for living fully in the present. In his book The Highest Goal, he suggests a concept for initiating meaningful change in our lives called "live withs."
A live what? A live WITH is a conscious way of seeing and perceiving the world. A live with allows us to purposefully choose our perceptions easing change and bringing awareness to our filters that we see through.
One of the live withs suggested is to "Have no expectations"
I discovered I have expectations for everything. In fact ,it is my expectations that cause so much dissapointment and misunderstanding in my life. That discovery along with the perseverance to really "live with" no expectation has allowed moments of aliveness and a fresh feeling about life that I had no idea I was missing!
This is a life changing book; equivelant to the work of Dale Carnegie and that genre.
Quite a live with, isn't it? What about trying it for the week?
Alicia Fruin
Beware!.......2006-02-11
This book is full of eastern religious philosophy and has little to do with reaching your highest goal. This book was assigned as required reading for an MBA program and I was extremely disappointed. Even if the author is a well-known Stanford professor, I believe he's a yogi first. Buyer beware! Needs to be -5 stars.
An Unexpected Introduction.......2005-10-22
I had a personal encounter with Michael, until then a stranger to me, in which he turned my criticism of something he had done into positive feedback for himself and as an expression of gratitude, he sent me this book!
A week or so ago I read the introduction and I am still digesting the powerful insight derived from conducting a simple exercise to "Find the Most Meaningful Thing." It is amazing and wonderful that a couple of pages which arrive so unexpectedly and are read at the appropriate moment can create such an affirming experience.
