Since I am a very enthusiastic crossword puzzler and since I live in an area of the world where they are unavailable, it isn't always easy trying to find something you like on-line. The good news is that the N.Y. Times Coffee Break book is EXACTLY what it says it is......I love it! It is easy but not
"brain-less" easy. Yes, the puzzles can be done in a coffee break! I only wish there were more puzzles in the book! I know I will finish the book too quickly. Buy and enjoy!
Light and Easy Puzzles.......2007-01-04
I find crosswords a way to relax and the Light and Easy series are just that. Not too hard, but engaging enough to keep me interested. The size of the puzzles makes it easy to finish one relatively quickly. The book size is convenient for carrying around. The expert crossword addict may find these too easy, but for the rest of us the Light and Easy series are fun. Great airplane/airport activity.

Well, pretty easy but not THAT easy. Finishing one on a coffee break is probably not something I could always do. They are fun and in a good format.

The thing about crossword puzzles is that even hard-core fans sometimes like to do an easy and fun puzzle. These ones are great. An excellent puzzler should be able to complete them in 10-15 minutes or less, a decent puzzler should easily have them done in under 20 minutes. The title is no joke: these really are great puzzles for your coffee break. This little book makes a great stocking stuffer!

Will Shortz Crosswords for Stress Relief.......2007-08-26
Mr. Shortz is a genius. I have learned so many words from him. And I don't peek until I've done everything I can, pondered a proper amount of time for each answer, and reached that final moment of total frustration. Mr. Shortz's crosswords are extremely entertaining and in almost every one, there is one word that will drive me bonkers, only to find out it's a simple word that I've used most of my life! (and these are stress busters?!) Yes, these are stress busters. Much better than a pill. They are delicious fun. I can focus on these in Grand Central, in a room full of sports fans, and sitting next to Hubby while he watches adventure, crime, or sports games on tv. Thanks, Mr. Shortz, for creating top entertainment with some education on the side!

Execution is the key.......2006-09-12
The idea that Gostick and Elton proposed is not new. In fact, it has been proposed in 1940s by Abraham Maslow in his hierarchy of needs. Maslow's argued that human behaviors are motivated by a series of needs, and are hierarchical in nature. If I understand correctly what Maslow had proposed and applied the same theory to this book, in fact what we are seeing is the execution of satisfying the needs on love/belonging and esteem. This is why an employee will prefer public recognition anytime compare to bonuses, since money, to a large degree, is use to satify the human needs for food and shelter only, which is at the lowest hierarchy of all human needs. The book carries no new theory of human behavior, but a new way in reminding managers that employees are human, and do satisfy human needs in the hierarchical form.

It is a great tool for all managers of any organization - big or small - or any industry.

This is an easy-to-read book providing useful tips on how to develop and implement a recognition reward program in your organization.
It offers suggestions at a macro and micro levels. Therefore, you can benefit from it no matter what type of managers you are. There are numerous best practices shared from a wide range of private companies.
In my opinion, the authors spend too much time demonstrating the importance and the benefits of recognizing employees' contribution. If you read the book, it is because you are already converted, isn't it?
