Customer Reviews:
this book is a mess.......2007-05-21
I bought this primarily for the Nurikabe puzzles. After a while, I started getting a feeling of déjà vu. Turns out that the same few puzzles are used over and over. A real ripoff.
aggravating, and not in a good puzzled way..........2007-02-22
I started this book with the Hitori section, which it seems was a big mistake. The "solutions" contain many errors. After doing a search online, I found that this had been acknowledged at the publisher's website: "From Michael Mepham: While all the hitori puzzles in the Monster Book of Japanese Puzzles and the Book of Hitori are valid, some of the published solutions are incomplete, leaving a final square or two unpainted. The error will be obvious to anyone who checks an erroneous solution, but for clarity we have reproduced all the solutions here, with corrections wherever necessary." [...]
My continuing complaint with this is that, while the reprinted solutions may in fact be valid (I haven't checked them) many of the puzzles do NOT, in fact have unique solutions. There may be 2 readily apparent alternatives, or even 3.
I've also found solutions in the Nurikabe section that are different from the "unique" solutions that Mepham has included in the book.
Hitori and Nurikabe are the 2 sections I started with, and the puzzles have been mostly entertaining...right up until the aggravation kicks in when you reach a different solution than the reportedly unique one, and you spend more time double-checking your work than you did doing the puzzle in the first place.
1/4 of the book is useless.......2007-01-10
It is great to see more of Nikoli's puzzles becoming popular, and indeed the Masyu and Nurikabe puzzles in this book are great fun and are a refreshing change from the more standard Sudoku and Kakuro, which this book also contains.
Unfortunately, the author completely misunderstood how Hitori is supposed to work, so those 100 puzzles (1/4 of the book) are next to useless. When introducing and explaining Hitori, he states the rules correctly, but one hint he gives ("If a number is unique to both its row and column, then it must be white") does not follow from the rules. All of his Hitori puzzles do not work out unless you invoke this "hint". And some of them do not work out even if you do invoke it.
I give the book 3 stars because the other sections of the book have given (and still are giving) me hours of puzzle-solving enjoyment.
Tons of fun!.......2007-01-06
I bought this book as a Christmas present for someone else, but it was so much fun I ended up solving many of the puzzles myself! In addition to sudoku and kakuro puzzles, which many people are already familiar with, the author includes hitori, masyu and nurikabe puzzles. There are 50 sudoku puzzles and 50 kakuro puzzles, plus 100 hitori, 100 masyu and 100 nurikabe puzzles. This means there are 400 puzzles in this book--truly a "monster" book of puzzles! You certainly get a lot of bang for your buck.
The puzzles are all high quality and the author provides a little introduction before each section of puzzles, giving a bit of history as well as a few solving techniques. I haven't finished the book, but so far I haven't found any errors or typos.
So, if you enjoy sudoku and kakuro and are looking for a few new types of puzzles, definitely check out this book! I really hope the author comes out with something similar in the future, because I've become quite addicted to the new puzzles and there aren't many other books that include them yet.
This book gives you an idea of the flood of "Sudoku" Books that are literally inundating the bookstores and newspapers........2006-04-10
A few weeks ago about the only variant to Sudoku was another number puzzle called Karuro. Oh yeah; there were also some larger ones of 16 X16 cells, some circular, etc. Now, it looks like a feeding frenzy around the Games and Puzzle section of the bookstore. Not to mention the plethora of hand held electronic sudoku games on e-bay. The only thing competing for attention is the raft of books started by the monster hit Da Vinci Code.
This author has put out several other Sudoku books and is one of the most popular amongst what is becoming many. For a quick look of 5 different types of "Grid Puzzles";you can't go wrong with this book.
It is anybody's guess how many other types we'll see in the near future. But I can tell you this ;I have been a 'puzzle nut'
for 60 years and have a collection of over 500 puzzle books;and there are literally hundreds more of variations on grid puzzles.
And then there's the whole world of Magic Squares;simply put,you
ain't seen nothing yet.
There is also another book that has recently appeared,"The Sudoku Code" by Francis Heaney that combines Da Vinci with Sudoku for those who like mysteries and puzzles combined.

D Smith.......2007-08-09
This book will keep you interested forever! I pull it out whenever I ride the bus, at dinner when my spouse goes to the bathroom, even before bed! I'm so challenged by the possibilities that I am hooked for good! What in the world do I do when I'm done with this one?
Monster Sudoku by Alastair Chisholm.......2007-06-25
This book is a lot of fun for those who have gotten tired of the glut of easier 9-square sudokus and are looking for something more challenging but not frustratingly impossible.
Sometimes more isn't better.......2007-06-19
I love puzzles and Sudokus and was excited when I first got this, but it quickly lost its allure. Instead of being challenging, it's simply tedious having more digits to fill in. There's no real difference between this and a regular 9 x 9 Sudoku; it's just more work. This is one of the Sudoku variations I tried after working through Will Shortz's Favorite Sudoku Variations: 100 Kakuro, Killer Sudoku, and More Brain-Twisting Puzzles and thinking that all Sudoku variations would be fun, but this one certainly wasn't.
Not your usual Sudoku.......2006-10-03
I found this book after having tired of the typical 9 x 9 grids and immediately fell in love. There are four difficulty levels (delicious, pernicious, malicious and vicious) using 15 x 15 grids. Fill-ins are 1-9 and A-F. At first it was odd to use both numbers and letters, but it didn't take long to adjust. The harder puzzles are not so difficult as to be impossible, and all of the levels are a terrific challenge. If you want something other than the usual boring 9 x 9 grid, give this one a try. This is really a fun book!!!

Highly recommended .......2007-08-17
This is a great book on Sudoku for kids. The book includes 150 puzzles. The puzzles are of various sizes: 4x4, 6x6, and 9x9. The solutions are at the end of the book. There are four levels of difficulty for the puzzles.
The first four pages in this book are dedicated for strategy, hints, rules, or tips. All the puzzles in the book are Classic Sudoku (with numbers). There are no Alphabet Sudoku (with letters) or Symbol Sudoku (with shapes and symbols) like the two books "Kindergarten Sudoku" and "Super Sudoku for Kids".
Very Challenging.......2007-05-14
It's a good book to introduce kids to sudoku. It starts off very easy and then gradually becomes more challenging.

Book Description
Pat Sajak's Monster Sudoku is based on Pat's pending-pending "Code Number" and "Code Letters" puzzle-solving system. This game-play feature of Sudoku is fun, challenging and will always be exclusive to Pat Sajak. Here's how it works: there are code symbols embedded throughout the puzzle. If a player is certain as to what an answer/number is in the code symbol box, then they can fill that number in throughout the whole puzzle on the corresponding code spaces. For examle, all the boxes that contain a star symble might all be sixes. It's just like Pat saying, "There are four Ts" on Wheel of Fortune. Ths fun, innovated game-play method allows for a slightly different thought process when solving the puzzle and is unique for Sudoku.

A - AAA - Study - Witness - Tool !.......2007-09-27
This bible is like a jack hammer made into a work of art.
Watch when you break out this bible, it is like showing up to a north side high school ball game in an 8 door limo, with go team painted on it.
Folks treat ya like - "E. F. Hutton" - you remember the commercials where everyone gets real quite so as to hear anything he might say.
Warning when you whip out a serious bible like this, people expect you to either be a seeker or a teacher.
Way to nice to be used as a door stop!
If there is a seeker or teacher in your life that you would like to bring a tear of joy to - put this bible in their hands, and be ready with your camera. Most excellent, ***** Highly Recommended!
The One From Kirkbride.......2007-09-05
I have read that some are buying the NKJV Thompson-Chain Reference Bible and getting a Bible of lower quality this time. I didn't know what it was all about until I bought one for sale at a bookstore one time. After noticing that the pages where glued instead of sewn, I investigated (they can't be messing with my Thompson)! Anyway, here is what I found out. If you want the quality made one you have to get one that comes from the original publisher Kirkbride Publishing company. They sold the right to Nelson Publishers to publish the Thompson Chain as well at a lower price. The one from Nelson Publishers (ask before you order) is the lower quality, but the one from Kirkbride is the higher quality. I pray that this has helped. Pastor Aaron Gravett
Declining Quality---What a Shame!.......2007-08-28
Years ago(not too many years, though) Thompson Bibles from Kirkbride were a quality product. There was Morrocco Leather, Cowhide, Bonded Leather. The smooth and thick Cowhide leather has disappeared, and has been replaced aby some sort of Levant(pebble)grained madness that sells for $84.99, versus the $89.99 of the Cowhide. Definitely not worth it! There are now Bonded Leather editions in some horrible shade of bright purple, and also a forest green---both with black ribbon markers---is Kirkbride so cheap they can no longer afforsd to coordinate the ribbons? Also, most of the ribbon markers are cut very short, so they serve no purpose since there is nothing to hold onto...then there is this miserable Kirvella substance, which comes in Ivory, Grey, and Black. As soon as you hold the open Bible in your hands, the spine caves in. I don't care for red print in the Gospels, but the red-letter is now pink on some pages, or very light red, and hard to read. Bleed through with the inferior-quality paper. Need I go on(there IS more), or have I made my point as to quality?
The helps in the Bible are excellent and unchanged. The Thompson has been around for going-on 100 years, and still sells, so something must be right. You can learn much from the Thompson Bible. It's almost a Bible school between the pages. Unfortunately, the product quality now stinks, but the outrageous prices continue. Your choice.
KJV Bible of Choice.......2007-08-16
I love KJV bibles and own several different kinds of KJV bibles. However, the KJV Thompson Chain-Reference Bible is the one I would take with me if I were to be away from home for a long time. This bible uses scripture to back up scripture, less of man's input and more of the holy word. I love the way the chain references was set up and ton's of bible information at the back. I could take this bible with me anywhere and enjoy every minute of learning subjects and issues based on scripture and the excellent chain references. I always look forward to reading the KJV with this bible. I purchased the large print because it makes it easier to read the sideline scripture references and because I am going on 50. If you're looking for the only KJV bible for your home or if you know someone who loves the KJV bible and needs a replacement, this is the bible I highly recommend and the one I would buy for love ones. May the holy bible transform and renew your mind, that you may prove what is good, acceptable and the will of God.

I love Yvonne Whittal's book. In fact, the only romantic books I read are hers. The stories are always realistic & wonderfully romantic & logical too. Sadly, Yvonne hasn't have new book coming out since 1994, I wonder what happen to her....
Book Description
This study covers the world outlook for jewelers’ machine chain made of gold and platinum excluding machine chain made of gold and platinum clad or plated to silver and non-precious metal across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.
