Perfect Gift for My Husband.......2006-03-10
As soon as my husband started flipping through this book, he was so excited. I surprised him with it on Valentine's Day, and within a couple of minutes, he was checking out trick shots that had always eluded him, shots that he always wanted to learn, some he had never seen before, and some that he was doing incorrectly. It has great diagrams and excellent explanations. We whole-heartedly recommend this book!
A great addition to you pool library.......2003-08-03
Highly entertaining, and informative to boot, even for regular, non-trick play. Anyone who already has Byrnes Standard Book of Pool and Byrne's Advanced should also get this, and his Wonderful World of Pool & Billards book, as all four volumes regularly refer to (useful) information in eachother. While this is MOSTLY a fun book about cute tricks shots (and possibly profitable ones, if you can master them and find suckers for bar bets), your casual, league and even tournament play can learn a few good pointers from the materials herein.
Super-Excellent, Awesome Book for Trick Shots!.......2002-07-24
This book covers the classics, such as the football shot, butterfly shot, machine gun shot, just showin' off, etc, plus variations, (i.e. masse machine gun shot) lesser known shots, and shots by the author. Some require almost no skill at all, while making others could keep pros happy all day.
Every shot has information about its history, how to do it, and sometimes even suggestions on what to say before you attempt it, plus a clear yet detailed digram of the setup and shot.
Almost any book will tell you how to do a few, common trick shots, but this one has them all.
Byrne's Delivers.......2001-08-21
Once again Byrne delivers concise info in an easy understandable manner. I currently own several of his books and videos; all of which are helpful. Some of his info may be found in earlier writings, but that's the case with many tomes in this area. It's no surprise he was inducted into the BCA Hall of Fame for his wonderful contributions to this sport via his writings/videos.
Good Luck..........1999-11-28
The book is interesting, but I tried a number of the supposedly "easy" trick shots.. They're not easy and I'm a fairly decent shot (play in leagues etc..). I'm sure with consistent practice, you could actually make 1 or 2 of these shots, but even then they would be "low percentage" shots. The placement of the balls must be perfect and no text can tell where to place these balls with the kind of precision you'll need to make these shots. Just don't expect to buy this book and be making trick shots the next day.. - You'll be disappointed. Even so, it's fun just to see these shots diagramed and the historical facts/anecdotes are interesting.

Book Description
For over 20 years, the development of children's television programming has been subsidized by toy manufacturers. The result has been an increased commercialization of children's popular culturethe creation of a "material world" of childhood characterized by brand-name toys, games, clothing, and television characters. Drawing on historical background and case studies, this book presents a unique look at the development of children as targets of the media and commercial industries, and examines the economic and social forces that have defined the evolution of children's entertainment.

depends on what you're interested in.......2005-01-25
This book is good as a history of the children's market in the United States.
However, I was looking for a summary of the psychological ploys which are used in the market, so I was somewhat disappointed.
Book Description
When an Ethiopian woman of modest means opens her home to AIDS orphans, lives change. With this immensely powerful story, a distinguished author and two-time National Book Award finalist puts a human face on Africa’s AIDS crisis. Haregewoin Teferra’s middle-class life in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, was shattered when her husband and daughter died within a few years of each other. Bereft, she became a recluse, living in a hut near her daughter’s grave. Then a priest delivered two orphaned teenagers into her care. The children thrived, and so did Haregewoin. As word spread, children of all ages began to appear at her home. It became known as the rare place where ailing parents and impoverished families could safely leave their children. Today, Haregewoin runs an orphanage and daycare and facilitates adoptions to families all over the world. With simple humanity, humor, and a sense of hope, she is facing one of our century’s greatest challenges: the AIDS pandemic that is leaving millions of children without parents to care for them. With the flair of a novelist and the reportorial instincts of a seasoned journalist, Melissa Fay Greene tells a story of struggle, despair, the triumph of saved lives, and the renewed happiness of children welcomed into new homes.

Opening our eyes to global needs.......2007-06-30
Melissa Fay Greene has the gift of story telling. The book beckons the reader to think beyond themselves and consider what contribution they may make to the cause of the orphan/Aids in Africa. Thank you Ms. Greene for inviting us on the journey...for educating us on real life on the other side of the globe...for jolting us out of our comfort and compelling us to action. One would need to have a heart of stone not to be moved by this powerful story!
awesome, informative book.......2007-06-09
I am so thrilled that I spent time reading this book. I loved it. This is a well written, informative book. I enjoyed the writing style as it moved through factual historical perspectives to the story of one women making a difference. Take time to read...you will be happy you did!
Moving, informative, gripping picture of humanity in Ethiopia.......2007-05-29
This is the best book I have read in some time. It is meticulously researched, insightful, and explains difficult technical issues clearly. It is gripping in its description of the plight of AIDS orphans and the incredible poverty of Ethiopia. But it is particularly special in the even-handed description of Haregewoin, not as a saint, thought she has given of herself like one, but as a flawed human (as we are all flawed) who has accomplished incredible good at a time when doing so put herself in great jeopardy in her society. This book is a great accomplishment by an accomplished author. I hope she receives the National Book Award for this one!
inspiring book.......2007-05-27
I loved this book! If you want to learn about Ethiopia, the AIDS crisis there, or if you want to be inspired by a true hero, read this book.
A must-read for the globally minded!.......2007-05-25
Sometimes it is difficult to break out our own local environment to learn more about important events are taking place around the world. Melissa Fay Greene's book, "There Is No Me Without You," allows even the most superficial of us to learn about the AIDS crisis in Africa and begin taking steps to help support a solution to the social problems plaguing that continent. I was familiar with the AIDS crisis in Africa but was horrified to learn about the lack of available pharmaceuticals for treatment of HIV-positive adults and children. It was truly an eye-opener to hear about the gross (for lack of a better word) profits made by drug companies producing these medicines and then the reluctance of those same companies to allow these treatments to be shared with the sick and dying.I was appalled.
I would highly recommend this book. After finishing "There Is No Me Without You," I researched the websites in the back of the book and found it was possible to directly donate to AHOPE. Interested individuals can even sponsor an orphan for as little as $30 a month. I easily spend more than that on books every month.
I was inspired, enlightened, motivated and educated by this book. Thank you Melissa for writing about these wonderful people and sharing their stories with us.

Customer Reviews:
a great text.......2001-10-03
I found this to be a good introductory textbook for a middle/high school age food and nutrition class. The text covers a wide range of topics related to food. One finds chapters on healthy eating and lifestyle, being a vegitarian, how to design a kitchen, and food profiles from around the world. Other chapters even discuss eating etiquette, buying food, and careers in food. The text starts with the basics (this is a whisk...) for the kitchen and for food. One is given profiles of food, nutritional information, and cooking ideas. While it may seem too basic for students who have some knowledge of cooking, it does a good job of introducing it to those who have to knowledge of it at all.
The writing is informative and easy to read. The text is well illustrated with bright drawings and photographs that expand on the written content. I enjoyed the recipes that were chosen for each chapter - they looked fun and doable. In all, this is a well balanced text that fulfills its purpose of presenting food for today.

Customer Reviews:
A few itsy bitsy pieces of useful information.......2005-07-16
I will have to start by saying that I am glad I read this book. No other has convinced me as much of the need to put serious effort into brand, image and advertising. However, I feel that much of this could be said in a single article. Much of the rest of the content can be found in other text. Perhaps the only exception is the extra effort that the author puts into to discussing the need to motivate those around you and to sell your idea, which I guess is still a part of brand, image and advertising.
The man certainly seems to have a talent for promotion and selling his ideas. Therefore, if you want to learn more on this specific topic, the book is a good buy; however, I still think an article in a business journal would be more concise and just as useful. If you are just starting to read up on different ways of running a business then this book would be a good buy. If you consider yourself well read on the topic of business management then this probably isn't for you.
On another note, if you are looking for examples of how the theorised phenomenon of American cultural imperialism works, this is a good book. Frequently the author mentions how the content of foreign programs must be changed to suit the American market while not once mentioning any effort to adjust his own products for markets outside of the US. When one considers the title, the book is almost ideal for this purpose.
In summary, I am glad that I read it but I feel I could have acquired the information I wanted more efficiently.
History of the itsy bisy entertainment company.......2001-11-12
This book has talked about the career deveolpment of Mr. Kenn.
He is a professional in marketing and has done many noticeable work, e.g.the repositioning of MEXX and Thomas the tank engine and Friend(TTE&F).
In this book, Viselman has used (TTE&F) several times to illustrated the marketing skill which he has been used, liking finding a niche market for yourself, if you are a new entrant to the market.
Besides, he has talked about how did his mother and father affected the way he think. Many stories writen by his friend can be found this book. And you can also learn communication skill from him.
However, some time frame haven't mentioned clearly. So, it is quite difficult to follow the development of each issue. If more clear sub-heading are provided, it will be much better for the reader.
Take on the world!.......2001-08-09
This book was highlighted in a trade publication that I get at my office. After the series ended, I had to pick up the book and I am so glad that I did. It is excellent. It can be applied to so many different areas. Whether you are a stay at home parent to a small business owner to a corporate giant, this book applies to us all with great clarity. The writing style is easy to follow, the suggestions are helpful without being overpowering, and you will just be "on fire" to take on the world!
"Eight Steps" make great business sense for any industry!.......2001-01-16
This book was an exciting challenge for me, being completely new to the market of children's entertainment,.... However, I found in this book some homegrown business sense that is rare to find in all those "get-rich-quick" or gimmicky"business model of the week" books, which tend to be popular in retail bookstores. Kenn Viselman has a solid, experience-based understanding of the fundamentals of business, whether discussing international expansion or local marketing.
Eight Giant Steps to Global Domination is an enjoyable read, but also reinforces its core concepts with workshops at the end of each chapter. Kenn mainly talks about his experiences, then makes general business applications for them, then allows the reader to come up with his/her own personalized applications. For this reason, the book is more than just a story about one man and his entertainment company; it is about anyone who believes in a product or service, and is concerned with how to make their dreams into a reality. I strongly recommend this book to any student of business - it is insightful and relevant for the MBA student, interesting and entertaining to the undergrad student, and is a reminder of best practices and unorthodox solutions to the experienced businessperson.
