Book Description
Get in-depth technical information for implementing and troubleshooting Active Directory services, security, and enterprise technologies such as distributed file systems and clustering in Windows 2000 Server-straight from the Windows 2000 product development team. Part of the official MICROSOFT WINDOWS 2000 SERVER RESOURCE KIT, this 1600-page guide is now available separately for IT professionals focused on Windows 2000 distributed systems. Coverage includes using Active Directory services to centrally manage users, groups, security, and network resources; resolving names in Active Directory and extending the schema; performing multimaster replication; deploying distributed security technologies, including authentication, access control, and encryption services; using Windows Clustering to balance server load and maximize availability; and other vital topics. The CD-ROM contains essential tools and utilities, along with a fully searchable eBook.
Customer Reviews:
Huge and helpful.......2007-10-03
I can't believe there is only one other review of this book on here.
This book is the most detailed and complete reference to Windows 2000 Server I've ever seen -- period. Additionally, as the review before mine mentions, the information contained within is still very relevant and useful for troubleshooting Windows 2003 Server based networks, so don't be put off by the title if you're looking for something to help you administer Win2K3 Server as well.
This book has almost no "fluff" in it, either. To give you an idea of its detail and completeness, the chapter on "Active Directory Diagnostics, Troubleshooting, and Reovery" is almost 200 pages long and full of detailed information I've never seen in any other book on Win2K or Win2K3.
I don't think Microsoft put out an upate to this, which is too bad, but it's still relevant today and will be for the next couple years, at least.
Simply Great in Every Aspect !.......2006-01-25
I always liked Microsoft Press Books and when there is some subject I must look for, my first priorities is to look in Microsoft editions if there is something related to it.
This Book has tons of invaluable information regarding Server 2000 o/s in lots of subjects and in such a level of detail that administrators with experiemce levels from little to very advanced, will definitely benefit from this book. It certainly is a valuable volume with information that is very helpful for providing resources and theory to help in Microsoft exams preparation also. Of course this is not a book solely indended for that purpose. It is mainly intended to provide resources, like all so called "Resource kit" books do, for better and efficient o/s maintenence and configuration, in the many many fields it covers. I give this book 5 stars because I realize that not a single day passes without referring to it. No Microsoft Administrator should miss this heavy volume. Get it and will be rewarded. To my opinion, you can be benefited from the material in this book even if you started your administrative career with Windows server 2003 o/s. it covers topics that 2003 server related books do not, at least not in that extent, maybe because they take ii for granted that most of 2003 admins have gained experience already from working on Windows 2000 environments.

Book Description
Multimedia application techniques used in contexts as diverse as business, government, education, entertainment, and healthcare are continually challenged by modeling, specification, analysis, and design issues that affect distributed multimedia database systems. These challenges are analyzed and practical solutions are offered in this scholarly discussion of database techniques such as image retrieval, video abstraction, video database, and multimedia and multistream synchronization. The most recent research findings are presented to facilitate effective database management.
Download Description
In the last few years we have observed an explosive growth of multimedia computing, communication and applications. This revolution is transforming the way people live, work, and interact with each other, and is impacting the way business, government services, education, entertainment and healthcare are operating. Yet, several issues related to modeling, specification, analysis and design of distributed multimedia database systems and multimedia information retrieval are still challenging to both researchers and practitioners. Distributed Multimedia Databases: Techniques and Applications points out these challenges and provides valuable suggestions toward the necessary solutions, by focusing on multimedia database techniques.

A good book, but too much formal method.......2000-06-08
I am a Ph.D Candidate, majored in Multimedia Communication. This book provides the reader with some very important principles and fundamental knowledge about the design of distribuited multimedia systems. It is a good book for the researchers and graduate students majored in multimedia communication architecture. You must have enough knowledge about CORBA, DCE, ODP and multimedia communication. If you just want to get some general knowledge about ODP, do not read it.
