Book Description
R and B singer, talented actress, budding soul diva — by the age of 22, Aaliyah had accomplished more than most dream of, and seemed destined for superstardom. But on August 25, 2001, the dream died in a plane crash. Tim Footman tells the dramatic story of this precocious talent, from securing her first record deal at age 12, to nailing her first number-one hit at 15, to an early romantic involvement with her mentor, R and B producer R. Kelly. The book shows how she became a leading female vocalist, paving the way for other young performers like Destiny’s Child and Alicia Keys. The book also covers her brief acting career in such blockbusters as Romeo Must Die and Queen of the Damned. Dozens of color and black-and-white photos are included in this in-depth biography of the ill-fated princess of R and B.

Aaliyah Review.......2006-03-15
I like this book because of all the pretty pictures that were inside, they were big and detailed. Sometimes the author would compare Aaliyah to other artist and sometimes get off topic. They just needed to focus on my girl only. THere is a picture of her and Dame in there when she is wearing a black dress and her nipple was showing. I dont like her exposed like that. But overall it was one of the best AALIYAH books I ever had.
Review for the "Aaliyah" Biography by Tim Footman By :Tee.......2005-08-07
Of all three biographies of Aaliyah that are out so far, I must say that this is the best one! Footman's book on Aaliyah's life is not only the first completely illustrated biography on her life to date, But the author was (unlike the other two writers, Farley and Kenyatta), is very detailed about her life and career. It pays tribute to the late entertainer in the loveliest way. Despite what the other reviewers claimed, I was never bored when I read this book. Most of the photographs of Aaliyah in this book are at least "8*10" in size, in full-color, and are very beautiful. They would make either lovely posters, or very nice screensavers,(If you can find these images of her on the internet.) There are also very nice pictures towards the end of the book of the murals on her billboard which promotes her last CD (in either N.Y. OR L.A.) and other murals/tributes that were created by her fans across the country after her passing. Her "Discography" and her short "Flimography" are also included. The author (Footman) at the end of the book puts it best when he simply says: "We may have lost Aaliyah, But at least we still have the music". To put it best, if you plan on buying a book about Aaliyah, This one is DEFINITELY worth buying. (Hopefully, one day, They'll make a movie about Aaliyah's life.) Until then,......WE LOVE YOU AND WE MISS YOU BABYGIRL.....MAY YOU REST IN ETERNAL PEACE!!!!!

Book Description
AALIYAH: AN R & B PRINCESS IN WORDS AND PICTURES is a story of sacrifice and dedication, of being disappointed but bouncing back. It is the coming-of-age story of a young artist who became a major force in music and acting. Aaliyah had something extra that super successful people have, the ability to “Dust Herself Off and Try Again” which is the title of one of her #1 hit songs. Although the sun has set on this magnificent young woman, Aaliyah lives forever in the hearts of her fans worldwide.

A fallen Angel.......2005-06-08
This book paid tribute to the late Aaliyah. It wasn't written to talk about her airplane crash or the investigations that the last reviewer talked about. Aaliyah fans get loads and loads of pictures of the singer and get to learn about the person she was. To alot of people she was cinderella! In the Remembering Aaliyah chapter, all the quotes by other famous entertainers make that clear!
Review for the Kelly Kenyatta/ Aaliyah Biography.......2004-08-28
First of all, I did'nt buy this book--I checked it out of the library. I have to honestly say that I was very disappointed with it. The Author said in her introduction that she had planned to do this book with Aaliyah herself shortly before she died. It's a shame that she did'nt get that chance. The book that the author ended up with after the entertainer's passing was very fairytale-like, almost childish, and very unrealistic. It was almost as bad as reading a modern day version of Cinderella--minus the happy ending. It might as well been written by any one of Aaliyah's fans. The author doesn't even really go into detail about the day of the the plane crash or the investigation. It doesn't even bother to talk about the "Wrongful Death Suit" that Aaliyah's parents filed against her second record label, Virgin, and the (now out of business) airline company that was involved in the crash, Blackhawk. The highlight of this book is the very candid black-and-white photos that the author provides of Aaliyah with her family, friends, and other industry notables. The author also provides nice quotes made by other enterainers about Aaliyah in the last chapter called "Remembering Aaliyah" as well as a short "flimograpy" of her flims and her "discography" of her music. I know that this author wanted to pay tribute to the late entertainer in a loving way, but just because a person is deceased (famous or unknown) , does not mean that we have to put them on a pedestal and pretend that thay were perfect while they were alive--No one is! If you want a more accurate story on Aaliyah's life watch the documentaries: "E! true hollywood story:Aaliyah" or "VH-1's behind the music:Aaliyah" . Bottom line: Check this book out of your local library , but don't buy it!
I miss her..........2004-03-22
Coming from a person who never saw AAliyah, never been to her concerts, and never spoke with the woman.... she seems to have still made me one of her numero uno fans! I admire this woman; her beauty, intellect and just every possible thing about her. I was very heartbroken when I heard what happend to her. Everyone knows that I was a diehard fan. Nevertheless, God needs his angels to come home early sometimes and it is not up to us to actually say when that is. I read this book once (my close friend is also an AAliyah fan) and it really touched me. I felt as if I knew her just a little bit more than what I learn from the media. Sometimes people never realize that stars are "people" too and they act goofy and want to have fun. My advice is to read the book-not TOO informative but still worth reading.
Aaliyah...As an inspiration...!.......2004-02-08
I love everything about Aaliyah, cause she was trully an entreteiner, a sweet little girl that will always be in our hearts..!
She was not only beautiful, but a great person with a lot of dreams, some of them came true, but not all...
Iam sure that she is watching us right now, and that she would love to see us smile whenever we think about her...
i loved this book, its treasure for me that i will always carry and another way to know that iam alive, and to fight for my dreams because we never know when is our time to go..!
Always missed........2003-12-17
Aaliyah was a true inspiration in life and still remains to be in the after-life. This book told Aaliyah's story and the pictures were also a nice addition. The only thing that faltered in this book were the small spelling errors on the picture pages. Other than that, this book should be in all Aaliyah fan collections.

Book Description
Aaliyah Dana Haughton was that music business rarity: a teen idol who transformed herself into a critically acclaimed hip-hop soul artist, a singer who successfully made the transition to actress, and a beautiful woman who never let the trappings of celebrity go to her head. Following her impressive debut at age 14 with the album Age Ain't Nothin' but a Number, Aaliyah raised the bar with her hugely influential and bestselling follow-up, One in a Million. She then took her talents to Hollywood, starring in the action thriller Romeo Must Die and the highly anticipated horror film The Queen of the Damned. But soon after the release of her third album in the summer of 2001, Aaliyah's life was cut short in a tragic plane crash.
Here is the inspirational story of the star The Washington Post dubbed "Hip-Hop's Lady Di" -- a woman who, by the time of her death at age twenty-two, touched legions of fans around the world with her haunting voice and gentle spirit.

More of name dropping than Biography.......2007-01-19
I was very disappointed in this book. The author seemed more interested in writing about who he knew than about the rising star.
A star that we will never forget.......2005-02-01
Aaliyah:More than a Women, written by Christopher John Farley, tells about the life of Aaliyah from when she first started acting and singing until her tragic death on August 25,2001.This book really tells the reader about Aaliyah's determination to become the best that she could be, and the way she strived to reach to the top .It explains about how she went to a school of the performing arts, and how she started acting when she was in the first grade in a production of Annie, and she would rehearse three hours a day, four days a week. Also the book tells how Aaliyah went to from a singer to an actress. The book also has quotes and stories, and memories about Aaliyah from many famous actors, producers, video and movie directors, music artists, and family members. I would recommend this book to Aaliyah fans. But I would also recommend this book to people who never thought about reading about Aaliyah because her life is really interesting. The only thing that I did not like about this book was that the author sometimes went off topic. The book is about Aaliyah, but he also started writing about other people, and subjects that didn't have anything to do with Aaliyah. But, besides that the book was pretty good.
Very healing.......2004-12-02
For anyone who still feels the world's loss of Aaliyah, but isn't in to reading a long book, this is a great synopsis of her short life and all her accomplishments. I recommend to all of her fans.
I know that I could've written a better book........2004-08-28
Although, I thought that his Aaliyah Bio was'nt as bad as Kelly Kenyatta's, The downfall of Farley's book was that he failed to stay on the topic of Aaliyah-who was supposed to be the main subject of this book! It seemed liked veered off the subject to either fill pages because of lack of research; or because he just wanted to brag to the reader about all the rich and famous people that he knows. The highlight of this book was that the author was somewhat detailed about the details regarding the day of the crash and provided some nice publicity stills of Aaliyah-esp the ones from her last movie, "Queen of the Damned". I thought that he exaggerated a bit about this movies reviews, though. It may have earned alot of money in the first week, but ticket sales soon dropped after that when it was heard through word-of-mouth that although Aaliyah was playing the title role, her part was rather small, and she does'nt come into the story until towards the end and her character was then killed off. I'm a writer myself , and with the right "connections" and research, I know that I could 've written a much BETTER BOOK than both the authors Farley and Kenyatta put together. Bottom line: Check the book out of the library, But don't but it! It will be a waste of your money!
R.I.P. Baby Girl.......2004-04-01
Aaliyah is a young woman that was in the music business. Her impressive debut at the age of 14 with album Age Isn't Nothing But A Number. Aaliyah was very smart and she was always happy. She also loved to singing and dancing. She played and a couple of movies. Aaliyah had secretly became engaged to Damon Dash. Soon after Aaliyah released her third album, Aaliyah life tragically cut short in a plan crash. Saturday, August25, 2001.
Yes, I liked the book, Aaliyah (more than a woman). Because Aaliyah was one of my favorite girl singers. I thought that she had a beautiful voice. Her songs weren't always about sex, killing each other. It was about love and happiness. Her music touched everyone in different places. I also liked it because I learned more things about her and her life. I think Aaliyah was a very talented young lady. And it wasn't her time to leave.
The author Christopher John Farley did a good job writing the biography on Aaliyah. It was also a great opportunity for people who didn't know her. Plus it was a great look on how hard it will be to make it in the music industry. This book had captured my attention as a reader and a young lady. That' why I think others should read this book because it will catch your attention. Maybe you will learn more about Aaliyah Dana Haughton.

Product Description
This collection is the first of an annual monograph that captures the black experience from various perspectives: mature versus youth and those within versus those outside the community. The primary contributors are the winners of the publisher's annual literary contests. The short stories and poetry range from thought-provoking to humorous: Like White an interracial family in Newark, DE copes with a KKK march; My Sisters Keeper a newly divorced mother of two finds help in a humble setting; the children at summer camp ask politicans for help when their lunch is a disaster in Pnut Butter and Rubber; Just Asking sharply criticizes black folk engaged in self-destructive behavior; Freedom recounts past challenges, progress, and failure in solving racism; Black and White, with sophisticated imagery, captures the essence of the conundrum, separate but equal education.

Book Description
Youth in Revolutionary Russia explores the everyday activities of urban youth in Soviet Russia, including communist ritual and performance, popular pleasures like the foxtrot, and the subcultural activities of homeless and hooligan youth. Gorsuch examines the relationship between the realities of youth and Bolshevik ideals for youth, between popular culture and official ideology, and the meaning of these relationships for the making of a "Soviet" state and society.
