Book Description
It is a great irony that garden books are filled with sunny, colorful photos taken at midday, while the gardeners who tend them are usually away at work. Peter Loewer's The Evening Garden is an exciting revelation of the delights to be found in a garden that is planned and planted for evening enjoyment, from night-bloomers to fragrant orchids and wildflowers. This book runs the gamut from technical considerations, like how the eye sees color at night, to essential discussions of plants with night-time value, whether it be fragrance, bloom, or the ability to attract moths. There are chapters dedicated to night-blooming daylilies, evening primroses and other nocturnal wildflowers, water gardens of the evening, moonlight gardens, and fireflies and glowworms. All are made eminently readable with quotes from past botanical writings, and the elegant text is graced with 160 beautiful line drawings. This is an indispensable book for any gardener who plans to venture out to the garden after sundown - or who just likes to read about it.

Very fine book -.......2005-08-02
This book has excellent information, it just didn't fit my needs. However, the information was excellent, and I am glad I purchased the book. It would have been nice to have color plates of the flowers, since the black and white line drawings were a little inadequate.
The Evening Garden.......2005-07-02
Seller didn't inform me the book had a great deal of highlighting. I purchased it primarily for the illustrations, but was disappointed by the highlighting.
Excellent!!.......2003-09-08
After taking an insect class which had as part of it a night class I decided to set up a night garden. This book is great - it has some neat poems sprinkled in which is an extra bonus. The book starts out with a chapter called "The Beauty ofthe Night" which talks to the moon, colors at night, stars/brightness. The next chapter is an overview of a niht garden - fragrances, pollinators, and plants. Then there is a chapter on orchids, another on bromelaids, another on annuals and perrenials for the night garden, night blooming daylillies, primroses and water gardens. Cactuses are also covered as well as trees and vines. There's also a chapter on fireflies, glow worms and moths. A very complete book - I'm really happy with it.

Book Description
Chopping wood in the fall, hauling sap buckets in the spring, and weeding, howing, and weeding again in the summer: That is life on a farm in the north. It is also seven months of snow; sloppy, impossible mud season; and hot days of haying. Who would miss growing up in such a place? A love of life and a love of place shines through in Natalie Kinsey-Warnock's richly imagined prose. Illustrated with Mary Azarian's beautiful woodcuts, this book reveals how chores lead straight to the best kind of fun: night-swimming in the pond, skiing off the barn roof, and finding new gray kittens in the haymow with their eyes still closed. And at story's end, readers from cities, towns, and the country will ask themselves, What would we miss most about our home?

Book Description
This book explores the many facets of black urban life from its genesis in the 18th century to the present time. With some historical background, the volume is primarily a contemporary critique, focusing on the major themes which have arisen and the challenges the confront African Americans as they create communities: political economy, religion and spirituality, health care, education, protest, and popular culture. The essays all examine the interplay between culture and politics, and the ways in which forms of cultural expression and political participation have changed over the past century to serve the needs of the black urban community. The collection closes with analysis of current struggles these communities face - joblessness, political discontent, frustrations with health care and urban schools - and the ways in which communities are responding to these challenges.

Great Movie - Script is worth it just for the lines of Chet.......2001-04-11
You'd better hope you don't cross paths with the infamous Gecko brothers Richie and Seth. They're fond of banks robbing them, that is. They're tough. Cool. Notorious. In From Dusk Till Dawn, we follow them as they tear a path through the heartland of America on their way to the border. It is there, near El Paso, that they will meet up with their Mexican partners-in-crime to divvy up the loot they've acquired.
Along the way, though, an innocent family will enter their lives an ex-Baptist preacher, his teenage son, and sexy daugh ter. We watch as Richie and Seth enlist the family's help in get ting them safely across the border in the family's Winnebago. When they arrive at their dreamed-about world south of the border, they are met with a terrifying twist.
Move over Dracula, there is a new vampire king.
An average screenplay.......2001-04-08
I read this on the way to Seattle and I thought it was okay. I didn't know Tarantino would write something like this. It was very unusual. I didn't care for the movie at all. I really think Robert Rodriguez is a good director and very creative. I just didn't think this one was all that great.
The best movie i liked so far.......1999-10-22

FROM DUSK TILL DAWN Rules!!!.......1999-04-09
From Dusk Till Dawn is the best Quentin Tarantino screenplay, besides Pulp Fiction. He combines the story of two criminal brothers and vampires at a Mexican bar.
Tarantino style, but no Tarantino substance.......1998-11-09
Quentin Taratino's 'Pulp Fiction', 'Jackie Brown, and 'Reservoir Dogs' screenplays were outstanding. But, 'From Dusk till Dawn' is borderline o.k. Robert Rodriguez destroys the film with his pathetic directing so I bought the screenplay to see Tarantino's script, hoping it would be better, but was terribly dissapointed. The script is certainly not Tarantino's best and the plot is really bad when it gets to the monster part. It is a shame Tarantino wasted his brilliant writing on some two-bit monster flick. (there were some cool conections with his other movies though.)

Book Description
During the first part of the nineteenth century, the Lost Worlds Romance, a new literary form, appeared in which an explorer, most often a scientist, made a voyage to what was then considered to be a remote part of the earth where he discovered a fantastic lost world. This book surveys the Lost Worlds Romance from its beginnings as it evolved from travel literature and utopian fiction to its eclipse when there were no more unexplored corners of the earth and it took to the stars, evolving into modern Science Fiction. Interestingly, these romances reflect the developing natural and social sciences of the times in which they were written. The themes of evolution, teleportation, human longevity, euthanasia, other dimensions, reincarnation, uses of radium, utopian and dystopian societies, among many others, play a prominent part in the discussion of these works. Darwin, Marx, and Freud are shown to have especially influenced the authors of these romances. The book also demonstrates that at a time when the sexual mores of mainline fiction were fairly repressed, writers of the Lost Worlds Romance were permitted much liberty with the erotic imagination. The treatment given to women in these romances is explored.

Well Worth A Read.......2006-07-20
This book by Rob Oliver, not only contains beautiful graphics of the South West of Western Australia, but its consise history and general information of this area make it a MUST HAVE read. It would make an ideal "coffee table" book and should be available to every tourist establishment in the region. Too often visitors miss these wonderful places that Rob has covered because they "didn't know about them".
Documenting and showcasing lavish landscapes.......2003-04-14
Written and illustrated by Rob Oliver, The South West: From Dawn Till Dusk is an utterly stunning, full-color photographic showcase of the glory of nature in the diverse landscapes of Western's Australia's southwest region stretching from Mandurah to Albany. A thoughtful and informative text is enhanced with simply gorgeous color photography documenting and showcasing lavish landscapes, as well as offering the reader social history, background information, and even legends. The South West is a welcome contribution to Photography and Australian Cultural reference collections, and is particularly recommended for tourists, naturalists, and armchair travelers with an abiding interest in spectacular, wild, and hauntingly beautiful nature.
Book Description
The Chronicles of Narnia series has entertained millions of readers, both children and adults, since the appearance of the first book in 1950. Here, scholars turn the lens of philosophy on these timeless tales. Engagingly written for a lay audience, these essays consider a wealth of topics centered on the ethical, spiritual, mythic, and moral resonances in the adventures of Aslan, the Pevensie children, and the rest of the colorful cast. Do the spectacular events in Narnia give readers a simplistic view of human choice and decision making? Does Aslan offer a solution to the problem of evil? What does the character of Susan tell readers about Lewis’s view of gender? How does Lewis address the Nietzschean “master morality” embraced by most of the villains of the Chronicles? With these and a wide range of other questions, this provocative book takes a fresh view of the world of Narnia and expands readers’ experience of it.
Customer Reviews:
The worst of this series.......2007-06-13
By "Philosophy," apparently they mean conservative, ecumenical religious ideology. If you disagree with Neil Gaiman and think poor Susan got what she deserved, this book is for you. I'm not a member of an organized religion (in fact I have a distaste for them) but I always saw a real spiritual beauty in Aslan that made me hope God is that deep and full of love. This book, though, reads more religion into the books than is justified. I recognize that religious philosophy is a valid area of thought, but this book offers little else, which is a real disappointment.
Beyond the Wardrobe.......2006-05-05
C.S. Lewis has been dead for over forty years, but he's one of the hottest authors around right now. Lewis has always been a favorite in Christian circles and college campuses, but now that his famed children's fantasy series, "The Chronicles of Narnia" are being adapted into major motion pictures, his works are gaining an even wider audience. THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA AND PHILOSOPHY is a collection of philosophical essays that examines and explores the moral, ethical, and sociological realm that Lewis created through his Narnia series.
Was Lewis a sexist? Do dogs go to Heaven? Do words have any power or real meaning? These are just a sampling of questions that the essays in this book examine. Some of the essays I found fascinating and others were just so-so. However, overall I enjoyed reading the book. My only preface to would-be readers is that many of those who contributed to the book are Christian professors. This isn't anything negative, but would be readers should know that before buying the book.
For Those Who Want fo go Further In and Up.......2006-01-21
Into Narnia? Want to go deeper? This is excellent book to aid with that. Not written for professional philosopher. Not written for those who just want to leave Narnia as the entertaining read it is, even for child in all of us.
This delves into the philosophy behind Narnia which for sure Jack was into as well, for he taught philosophy early on in his career and was avid philosopher all his life.
Here parallels to such metaphysics as time, epistemology, altruism, objective morality, and more, they are each treated here from Narnia position by this group of committed philosophers. There is definite Christian bent to their worldview, as there was with Jack's. The article on Aslan and Other Religions explores the stickiest issue with Lewis' theology, that of inclusivism. This discussion brings forth the issues in contention. Likely this is why many Christian apologists shy away from Lewis, due to his likely unbilbical stance here. Sure we would all like to believe this somewhat, but the Scripture evidence is lacking.
I particularly found Kevin Kinghorn's work on virtue epistemology fascinating, especially as he sees it in relation to Uncle Andrew's inability to hear the Talking Animals.
Further, Michael and Adam Peterson's venture into time and eternity from Narnian view is cogent and timely, ha! Angus Menuge tackles the gripping topic of "why Eustace Clarence Scrubb"almost deserved his name. This is engagement with modern secularism exposing its bias which even it itself cannot provide all evidence it seems to demand from other views. Closeness to Transcendent is vital area to explore and this will help.
Hopefully for those kin to engage in these thoughts, this is good source to take off exploring these some twenty authors ventures into Aslan's country.
An excellent companion.......2005-10-04
The Chronicles of Narnia and Philosophy is an excellent companion and must-read for anyone who is interested in what C.S. Lewis puts at stake in his much beloved Chronicles. The essays are well written and cover topics from time to Lewis' apparent inclusivist views as shown in The Last Battle. The Philosophy portion of this book does not overwhelm and definitely adds to the magic, rather than putting a grown up squash on it.
