Book Description
Spiritual medium and healer Rosemary Altea touched the lives of millions with her New York Times bestseller The Eagle and the Rose. In this classic work, Altea described how she discovered her gift, and recounted the miraculous experiences she had in her early years of connecting the living with the dead. In The Eagle and the Rose Take Flight, she shares inspiring new stories of working with her spirit guide, Grey Eagle, to help sick and troubled people heal, to help people recognize their true path in life, or to help people find peace in reuniting with departed loved ones.
Born and raised in England, from the time she was a young girl Rosemary Altea heard voices and had visions of people who had died. But feeling threatened by her mother, the young Rosemary kept silent about the strange, menacing faces she saw in the dark. In the 1970s, now in her midthirties with a ten-year-old daughter of her own, Rosemary was abandoned by her husband. Nearing rock bottom emotionally, she began to nurture her spiritual gifts. She claims it was her spirit guide Grey Eagle who advised her to publish her first book, The Eagle and the Rose. Even as the world has come to accept-even revere-people who have the ability to communicate with the dead, with various mediums gracing the bestseller list and with such television shows as The Medium and Ghost Whisperer high in the ratings, in recent years Rosemary Altea has had to struggle to realize the transformational power of her work. From defending her integrity as a medium in a vicious lawsuit to coping with the loss of a friend who was very close to her heart, now Altea brings us The Eagle and the Rose Take Flight, detailing a new chapter in her rich personal history as she recounts story after story of remarkable encounters with the spirit world-encounters that will amaze and inspire Altea's millions of fans.

A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH offers much insight into the world of psychic perception........2007-08-09
Fifteen years ago the term 'medium' was barely known to the public: today the ordinary American knows it well. Psychic Rosemary Altea's A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH: REMARKABLE TRUE STORIES OF HOPE AND HEALING comes from a woman widely known as the 'voice of the spirit world' and here provides an important survey of how to spot fakes in the industry, and how to understand the spirit world. From the author's latest encounters with the spirit world, including a soldier who died in Iraq, to increased media coverage of psychics in modern times, A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH offers much insight into the world of psychic perception.

Slightly hypocritical.......2007-06-27
This is the first book by Rosemary Altea that I've read. Perhaps I should have read "The Eagle and the Rose" first, but I got the gist of who the author is (and who her spirit guide is) from this book.
I didn't find any of the stories really mind-blowing (although there were a few that were intriguing). And while I find Altea more credible than Sylvia Browne (comparisons are bound to be made between the two), I do find her just a little bit hypocritical. In one breath, she talks about how she is skeptical, always questioning everything. And yet, anything that Grey Eagle (her spirit guide) says seems to be taken as truth without much questioning at all.
I was also turned off by her talk of "Dark Souls". It's just too similar to the Sylvia Browne canon, and strikes me as a lazy way of looking at things... especially for a psychic.
I do question the value of these kinds of books for being able to help people with their grief. Reading about someone else's experience is not necessarily going to help you with your own, no matter how often you are told so by the author. For many, seeing (or personal experience) is believing.
Other than that, though, the book was interesting. I don't regret reading it. Taken as a collection of interesting (if a little disjointed) stories, it's a perfectly adequate summer read.
A Matter of Life and Death.......2007-05-19
I thought this was a great book. One of Rosemary's best. I look forward to her next one.
Customer Reviews:
An exciting book -- and yet so very wrong.......2006-11-25
Forde captures something of that same excitement that set Martin Luther aflame, and for this reason alone this little book deserves reading, especially by preachers. Forde's theology is a theology for preachers. How do we preach the gospel? How do we do the gospel to our congregations?
Yet Forde is also so very wrong in his reading of St Paul. If Forde is right, then nobody read the New Testament rightly until Martn Luther showed up on the scene. The critical flaw in Forde's presentation is most clearly revealed in his discussion of sanctification: sanctification is getting used to the fact that we can't do anything for our salvation. Who before Luther ever understood life in grace in this way? Absolutely nobody. That alone should tell us Luther/Forde has gone off the tracks somewhere.
Yet the book is absolutely worth reading. [...]
Grace abounding.......2005-06-02
One of the most significant books I have ever read. As a non-Lutheran, I so appreciate Forde's refusal to allow performance to creep into the salvation of sinner's--not only for justification but for sanctification as well. His insights into our freedom as Christians from the whole legal process as we recognize the death of the old man and the resurrection of the new are the very best I have ever seen. Each read of this little jewel (about six now) has produced new insight, and with each new insight, life in my heart.
Justification in Terms of Life and Death.......2000-03-13
Another good read. O Forde makes a great case both from Luther's writings and scripture that Justification needs to be placed not only as a forensic/courtroom truth as in the Lutheran Confessions but needs also to be restored under the 'death/life' category as well. It's not until we come to the end of our own 'theological rope' and despair of our self efforts towards salvation (via the cross)that we can clearly see salvation hanging there for us. The author begins with our need to 'sit down, shut up, and listen' (to scripture) and the book goes uphill from there.

Sober, serious, thoughtful, and inspirational reading.......2003-07-16
A Matter Of Life And Death: Preaching At Funerals by Episcopal priest Charles Hoffacker is a heartfelt testimony written especially for Christian ministers who are called upon to speak to and comfort the friends and family of the deceased. Offering guidelines for speeches that celebrate resurrection and eternal life through Jesus Christ, A Matter of Life and Death: Preaching at Funerals is recommended a sober, serious, thoughtful, and inspirational reading.
The "key" to an excellent funeral sermon.......2003-05-15
When I learned that Fr. Hoffacker was planning a book of funeral sermons, I thought it would be a great book for preachers to have on their bookshelves. When the difficult funeral comes, the preacher would pull the book off the shelf, find the sermon that fits, adapt it, and be ready to go.
Now that I have read the book, I still think that it would be a great book to have on your shelf, but my concept has shifted. I no longer think of it primarily as a collection of funeral sermons, although it does include those. The greater value of the book, however, may lie elsewhere.
Fr. Hoffacker begins by establishing what a funeral sermon should be. He says that it should sound as if the preacher has the Bible in one hand and the obituary in the other -- it should incorporate both the hope of the resurrection and something personal about the deceased.
Then he talks finding "the key" that makes it possible for the preacher to capture that personal element regarding the deceased. He teaches us where to go and what to do to learn something meaningful about the person. Then he asks us to tailor the sermon to that person based on "the key" that we have discovered -- making sure that we have not ignored the hope of the resurrection.
And the eighteen sermons in the book demonstrate how he has done that for a variety of funeral situations. They are, in my estimation, some of Fr. Hoffacker's best sermons, and constitute an unusually fine collection of funeral sermons...
I heartily recommend that you obtain a copy of the book and read it before the occasion arrives where you really need it. Learn what a funeral sermon should be. Learn how to find "the key" to the person's life that will enable you to develop a faithful funeral sermon. Read through a few of the sermons to see what a really good funeral sermon looks like. Then put the book on your shelf until you need it. I think that, over the coming years, you will consult it often...

A great introduction into some very important topics.......2002-06-30
I read this book with an open mind, ready for anything. I was happily surprised to find that for a book with such political implications the authors remained true to their goal: discovery of the truth. No matter whether you agree with them or not, this book is a valuable tool for anyone. It teaches us how to look objectively and carefully at topics that we often have preconditioned ideas about. If anything, its an excercise in intellectualism. This book gives true meaning to the journey over the destination.

FABulous!!.......2006-06-25
This is a well written introductory book, ideal for all ages and interest levels. Unfortunately, the title is a bit misleading as it can be enjoyed by everyone. The author has done a great job in managing to balance the personal lives of the Beatles' and the musical aspect of their lives. I especially enjoyed learning about the background behind some of the songs. I felt good knowing that the book is one of the most accurate portrayals of the Beatles available today, according to a number of reviews in magazines and online. If you don't want to be mired in a very long and detailed account of the Fab Four, then this is the book to get.
An informative, diverse, and satisfying survey of the legacy of four talented musical stars.......2006-01-12

Ideal for school and public libraries, Teenagers Guide To The Beatles is an informative, diverse, and satisfying survey of the legacy of four talented musical stars.
Good for all ages.......2005-11-10
The whole family enjoyed the book. The layout is simple and the book is easy to read. It's just the right length and provides enough information for anyone interested in the Fab Four. It's worth buying.
A wonderful read.......2005-11-02
As a huge Paul McCartney fan, it is only natural that my kids are also fans. When I first learned of this book, I purchased it with the intent of giving it to my teenage son. When it arrived in the mail, I found myself truly engrosed in this well written, easy to read and interesting book chocked full of Beatles facts that even I, having lived through the Beatle years, was unaware of. It provides historical facts in a understandable level and proved to be a pleasure to read. After being read by myself,I gave it to my son, who read it in one setting. That in itself is a huge compliment on any book. Thank you for a tasteful and informational book about the Fab Four.
Good book to introduce teens toThe Beatles.......2005-10-22
Mr. Lalani brings forth the enthusiasm of a true Beatles fan as he guides readers through the Fab Four's history. Parents and their teens will find the text straightforward, easy to read, and hard to put down. The author shies away from the more controversial aspects of Beatle history, such as their drug use, in order to make the book age appropriate. While numerous books have been written about the group over the years, this young adult entry contains information on Beatles fan clubs, Internet resources, magazines and festivals. This book should be slipped into a teen's "must read" pile. Combined with The Beatles' movies, videos and music, having them read "Teenagers Guide to The Beatles" would be a tremendous introduction to the talents of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
