4 out of 5 stars For those serious about producing.......2007-06-08

Good basic legal information oriented towards the independent feature film producer but useful for anyone who wants to produce film or other distributed video. Won't replace having an attorney but will allow you to do some things by yourself and understand what is going on when you need to hire one. Similar to "The Independent Film Producer's Survival Guide" but with enough distinct material (example contracts for instance) to be worth having both.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent resource.......2007-05-13

Comprehensive and a terrific resource. The goal is not to use the book instead of legal advice, but it is a terrific starting point.

5 out of 5 stars Irena Tully, Impulse Films & Prestige Entertainment.......2007-02-09

This is a useful and inspirational book that explains a variety of legal film production matters and provides drafts of contracts for basically every aspect of film & TV production. And it covers all major players in the colossal process of making a film, helping to make sure that whatever your role in the production is, you understand your rights.

3 out of 5 stars Decent book - no CD.......2007-01-03

This book is a good collection of legal contracts for the industry, but it doesn't have a CD-ROM or associated website where you can download the contracts as a starting-point template.

I believe the author is gouging us by forcing us to buy the CD separately. Very cheesy business practice. I hope you have OCR software to scan these pages into your computer.

5 out of 5 stars A fine and thorough book.......2001-07-10

Litwak provides about as much as a professional could share in this throrough outing. He also shares 'boilerplate' contracts for virtally all key players in a film production. Of course, direct experience is the best teacher, but EVERY neophyte in film or television must own this book, and its a handy reference for seasoned professionals and part-timers.

Also check out his companion book, "Dealmaking..." which has priceless cues on what gray areas to avoid in negotiating with lawyers and their clients.

Essential for producers, directors, writers and anyone hoping to get financed or paid or both!

4 out of 5 stars Make your agent read this...but you should read.......2004-01-31

This is a great resource for dealmaking, but most actors and writers that I know aren't negotiating their own deals. The trick is to get your agent to work harder at creating opportunities, so that they actually have deals to make. Yes, your agent should read this book ... but for myself, as an actor/writer the book HOW TO AGENT YOUR AGENT...is my bible. It helps me kick my agents in the butt ( without them knowing)and I get results...they're working harder and I'm getting work. Also I liked that book with all the casting directors pictures...just in case you see them in Starbucks and want to say hello.

5 out of 5 stars Super Helpful Book on Entertainment Industry.......2002-08-15

I work at a Production company and a lot of contracts we hand to outside lawyers, but this is a good tool for me because it goes into details and discusses each point in a contract. This is something I'd love to have had many years ago, when I just got started in the business, and now that I have it, I am learning a lot of new things. There isn't any other book out there- quite like this.

4 out of 5 stars Useful Book.......2004-11-28

This book is a handy reference for business and legal users. The text strikes a good balance between being useful as an informational reference and being overly encyclopedic. The forms reflect many good contracting practices. www.ambroziaklaw.com.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Very well written, extremely helpful for American or British.......2000-10-31

I found this book to be very helpful and informative. Although a British legal system book, the fundamentals of filmmaking and legal issues around them are very well set out. Because the industry is global this book really does shed alot of light on the subject matter. The CD Rom with the book is also very helpful

2 out of 5 stars While Well-Written, Not Tailored to American Law.......2000-06-27

On first glance, this book seems quite a find; it comes with a CD-ROM complete with all the contracts discussed in the manuscript. The book's format is also very user-friendly; the left hand page displays contractual language, while the right hand page explains the "legalese" in lay-person's terms. The scope of the book covers the major contracts any indie producer (film or TV) will undoubtedly use. But there's a catch (and a BIG one at that)...

The book is written by an English attorney, and seems tailored to English law. The U.S. publisher has neglected to indicate this fundamental split anywhere on the cover. Although American Law originally came from English Common law, there are just too many differences between the two system's today to make this a reliable source for American producers and attorneys unfamiliar with the differences between both systems.

A case in point is the book's treatment of Copyright law. The English system is a bit different than ours; copyright terms and policy issues are often at variance with U.S. law. These subtle differences will probably slip by most producers and attorneys unfamiliar with U.S. intellectual property law..

Bottom line: it is a good book if you are well-grounded in American contract and I.P. law and want to see how the English handle entertainment contracts. But if you aren't well versed in differences between the two legal systems, the ease of downloading a contract form that may not comport with American law might get you into more trouble than its worth.

The recording is very good, but the level is more than intermediate, specially the Piazzola suite, which is played in a very fast tempo and looses a bit of it's tango spirit.

2 out of 5 stars Doubtful selections and low quality music, but the only one.......2004-05-16

I play the classical guitar and my daughter play the flute. I thought that this music book could be a very good selection. And it was, in a sense that this is the only available one in the market.
First of all, the selection of the music. In my opinion, only one third of the selections are reasonable. I do not know what the author's quality of music is, but other two thirds are quite degrading if they were played with flute and guitar as were written in this book.
Second, the quality of transcription is also quite doubtful and not so high quality. Mostly low quality. For example, J.S. Bach's Siciliano. It's a good selection. But the playability of the guitar part does not match the quality of the sound it produces. It must have been transcribed by the person who does not know anything about guitar. If you look around, there is a sheet music of Siciliano for flute and guitar duet. Much easier than this one and much better quality (this is the one which was written by the person who knows how to play guitar).
Third, the level of flute and that of guitar do not match. The flute part is for beginner, and guitar part is intermediate or higher.
Unfortunately, this is the only one that is available in the market. I hope that someone who can actually play the classical guitar and have good musical quality may publish a better music book for flute and guitar.
If you are desperate, this book is OK. Otherwise, look around the individual sheet music. Or if you play guitar well and know how to write music a little bit or you can improvise, find the original music and add your own musicality.

5 out of 5 stars A great musical value: some easy, some hard, all fun........2000-04-20

This two-book set (one for guitar and one for flute) has the sheet music of 47 duets for intermediate players.

`Guitar and Flute Duets' is an excellent and long-lasting value, especially if you play the flute and have a classical guitar player in the house, or of course vice versa.

I'm an intermediate player resuming after many years of inactivity: I found I could play many of the Bach, Mozart and Beethoven pieces in the collection. None were too easy to be boring, and some were just beyond reach at first. I also enjoyed the Dowland, Handel, and there's a really great slow sensual Corelli piece too.

There are also pieces by Purcell, Telemann, Chopin, Schubert, Granados, Tarrega and others, some waltzes and Spanish pieces which we haven't played at all. I'm just mentioning them so you can get an idea of the range of music in the book.

I am a professional sax player who doubles on flute and there are very few MMO items out there for flute. When I found this I was pretty excited. When I got it home I found it very very difficult (which is good in most cases). A high school player would have a great deal of trouble with it, but it would be a good learning experience. Excellent music reading skills are needed.

The sheet music only gives the guitar part -- no flute part! I got this so that both the flute player I do duets with and myself could have some good music to play. I had to return it because of that. What a rip off! Volume one was great. The sheet music had both guitara nd flute parts. I wonder why this volume only gave the guitar part.
