Customer Reviews:
Fascinating!.......2004-11-03
Bruce Lee was an "original" no doubt..He was an innovative martial artist who created an eclectic style of Gung Fu called Jeet Kune Do, an assimilation of many fighting styles...Bruce didn't believe in systems..he always believed that if you could use something to achieve a result use it! Bruce had many followers and "famous" students..such as Steve McQueen, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Chuck Norris, Joe Lewis, Mike Stone, James Coburn and many others...Bruce would be the first to admit that he was first and foremost a martial artist...He used the movies to bring his "art" to the masses and what an impact he made! His films today are quintessential examples of what a martial arts film should be! This book by his wife Linda Lee is a beautifully written biography that offers worlds of insight into who Bruce Lee was as a person..Linda writes lovingly of their relationship and brings a history of Bruce from a baby to his death at the too young age of 32 to you..Bruce lived his life to the fullest and was not only a great martial artist but a very profound philosopher as well...This is a wonderful book and highly recommended, not only to fans of Bruce but to anyone seeking inspiration in their lives....
Very good an interesting book about an interesting man!.......2004-05-13
Bruce Lee. Some things the average reader will not know about this man: Bruce Lee only made four movies in his lifetime. Bruce Lee was an intellectual. Bruce Lee revolutionized the martial arts. Bruce Lee brought the martial arts to the masses.
This book is written by Bruce Lee's wife. It is a short and loving memory to an extraordianry man who is still famous. Why exactly is a mystery. Perhaps it is the outstanding artistry Bruce Lee brought to the martial arts.
Bruce Lee had been a child actor in Hong Kong before coming to the United States and studying at the University of Washington. Ironically, he was a philosophy major. However, Lee transformed himself into a tremendous human specimen through his physical discipline, and a intellectual regarding his sport. He introduced "the way of the moving fist," which was a new methodology in the training of martial arts. He also dared to tech the subject to non-Asians, a idea which was tremendously disturbing to many and resulted in a fistfight with a young challenger in Lee's studio in Oakland, California.
Linda Lee comes across as a traveler who feels luck in being able to travel (for a brief while) on the road with Bruce Lee. He was convinced to move to Hollywood, where he began training stars like James Coburn, and later Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Unfortunnately, Bruce Lee had to fight racism and stereotypes. At home, his wife's family rejected him because of his Asian heritage. Hollywood rejected him because he didn't want to play the 'chop-suey' roles Hollywood routinely put forth in portraying Asians in film and television. However, a searing performance in the late 1960's on a detective show cemented his star quality, and he made some appearences on "the Green Hornet."
Finally, he made some pictures in the Hollywood system such as "Enter the Dragon."
Unfortunately, his most interesting and allusionary work, "The Game of Death," which was supposed to be a representation of his philophy of his art was never completed. I believe an assembled film was cobbeld together after his death, but the film was never finished. Interestingly, Kareem Abdul Jabbar played the ultimate obstacle in the movie.
Linda Lee's book has many interesting pictures, and I think gives an interesting look at Bruce Lee's life and impact that will have even the most casual reader satisfied.
If you are looking for lurid details, conspiracies and the like this book is not for you. Understandably, Ms. Lee does not cover the topic of Bruce Lee's supposed drug use and the unusual circumstances of his death, but what would you expect, this is a loving portrait by a woman who obviously loved Bruce Lee very much. Cheers for her!
Interestingly, several weeks ago, I watched a Turkish film in which a charecter kept repeating the line, " I will chop them up like Bruce Lee." In a Turkish film for crying out loud.
Obviously, Bruce Lee ahd a great impact on the world for his incredible talent which was taken from us before Bruce Lee could intepret it for the rest of us. In this way, he reminds me of Jimi Hendrix; Bruce Lee was a shooting star across the heavens.
This is a good book, and I believe you will like it as well.
Better Than You Think!.......2002-07-02
Like many Bruce Lee fans, I was dubious when picking up this book, suspecting it would be too sentimental and one-sided, glossing over the "true facts." However, don't be misled-- this book is GREAT. Easily among the two or three best Bruce Lee biographies, if not the best. Very well written, well organized, great rare photos. Linda does a fantastic job of giving us an idea of who Bruce Lee was, from the singular perspective of the person who truly knew him best. Sure, it glosses over the more controversial topics that have surfaced over the years (e.g., alleged drug use, personality problems, the circumstances surrounding his death). But you'll come away with a profound respect for the integrated depth of Bruce's genius, his commitment to his family, and his profound sense of integrity and character. And you'll notice that the qualities Linda chooses to highlight are in fact the ones that come out in his art as well as his screen persona. For example, here's a man who, feeling the weight of racial prejudice against himself, was nonetheless willing to physically fight a fellow Chinese for the right to teach Kung Fu to whites! That story is well-known, but the way Linda captures it illustrates Bruce's commitment to principles and his global perspective. Linda does a great job of balancing Bruce Lee as a profound philosopher as well as a uniquely gifted physical specimen. She makes you understand that it was more than simply his physical gifts that made him who he was. Perhaps Karate master Ed Parker said it best: Bruce was "one in two billion." In Linda's book, you'll be amazed at how disciplined, far-seeing, and erudite Bruce Lee was-- at such a young age. He was simply WAY ahead of his time. One could easily say that, through the medium of film, Bruce Lee singlehandedly effected a paradigm shift in the world's perception of martial arts, Asian males, eastern philosophy, and action films. This book is a very illuminating and satisfying read.
A touching insite into an amazing family.......2002-03-15
As a UK housewife with young children I have virtually no martial arts knowledge and read the book out of curiosity. I found a truly real book about an amazing marriage and an amazing couple. I think Linda Lee is as extraodinary as her husband. I am left feeling inspired about my own life and shall pass on little nuggets of knowledge to my own kids. This book is for people interested in fellow human beings and not just martial arts followers. It is testimony in itself that nearly 30 years after his death Bruce Lee has inspired an ordinary British woman.
Basically informative, with some mythmaking thrown in.......2001-03-16
An OK book, as far as propaganda biographies go. But if you want to read one genuinely great book about Bruce Lee, make it THE TAO OF BRUCE LEE by Davis Miller, which I recommend over any other biography of Lee. Davis Miller's book is beautiful, funny, sad, a pageturner, and it's the only book to sort through all the hokum and myths to give us something real-world and true.

Book Description
Although the time Bruce Lee spent in Oakland, California is often treated as a mere footnote on his path to stardom, these years had a substantial impact on the martial artist and man he would become. After many years of research, authors Sid Campbell and Greglon Yimm Lee (son of James Yimm Lee) continue their fascinating, up-close description of Bruce Lee's early life.
The Dragon and the Tiger, Volume 2 takes up where Volume 1 left off, detailing Bruce Lee's departure from Seattle and his adventure-filled return to Oakland. We follow him as he comes to better know Gung-fu extraordinaire James Lee and his circle of martial arts friends. As Bruce discovers James's numerous talents—as an author, publisher, martial arts equipment inventor, herbal pharmacologist, body builder, and phenomenal 'brick breaker'—he begins to make regular trips from Seattle to Oakland to learn from this exceptional man. Bruce Lee also begins teaching his Jun Fan Gung-fu and elements of chun to his newfound friend.
Bruce Lee and James Yimm Lee were both highly opinionated free thinkers and when Bruce and his new bride Linda Emery Lee moved to Oakland and lived with James Lee's family, they began to share ideas, insights, philosophies, friendship, camaraderie, and a deep respect for one another's special traits and talents. Although James was twenty years Bruce's senior, they forged a bond and became more like brothers than friends- young Greglon Lee even took to calling Bruce and Linda 'Uncle' and 'Aunt.' This rare friendship and further never-before-revealed details from the life of the young Bruce Lee unfold in The Dragon and the Tiger, Volume 2, a story the authors refer to as the 'Fusion of Two Fighters.'

The History of America's Forgotten Martial Pioneers.......2006-03-02
Volume two picks up where the previous issue left off. Plenty of stories here to delight the curious, as featured Bruce Lee and James Yimm Lee interact with Kenpo's Ralph Castro, T.Y. Wong, Al Novak, Wally Jay, etc. While it is probably the name of Bruce Lee that will attract most readers, it is the story of James Yimm Lee that I have been following. The experiences of these men are intertwined as they search for understanding and mastery over themselves. These are the days before Bruce Lee's fame as a screen star, when James Yimm Lee Introduces Bruce Lee to bodybuilding, and Bruce teaches James the Sil Lim Tao form of Wing Chun Kung Fu. James teaches Bruce how to break bricks, and Bruce Lee brings James to a new level in Chi Sao. Bruce is fascinated with a method of breaking whereby James and his student Al Novak are able to break a specified brick out of a stack of many...Bruce wants to know how it is done, and James tells him. One third of the book deals with the effort to write and publish Bruce Lee's first book, "Chinese Gung-Fu: The Philosophical Art of Self-Defense".
One of the faults of this series is that it is written as a long story. There are no footnotes, no bibliography or index at the back. This makes it awfully hard to use as a factual reference. Were there interviews done, and with whom? Who contributed to this book, is entirely based on the memories of James Yimm Lee's son, Greglon Lee? That aside, "The Dragon and The Tiger" series makes for an enjoyable read. More's the pity that so many of the pioneers of physical culture and martial arts from that era remain unknown and unheralded. Perhaps along with James Lee, someday we will have detailed accounts of (or by for those who are still with us) Al Novak, Lau Bun, T.Y. Wong, James Wing Woo and Paul Pung to keep Bruce company on our shelves.

Book Description
First time in paperback: A myth-shattering book on codes and codebreaking that "no one with the slightest interest in World War II or in the origins of the Cold War can afford to ignore."-Robin W. Winks.
Robert T. Crowley, an intelligence officer in World War II who later became a senior executive at the CIA, has called Marching Orders simply "one of the most important books ever published about World War II." At last available in paperback, the book reveals a host of previously untold stories about codes and codebreaking-including how the American breaking of the Japanese diplomatic Purple ciphers led to the defeat of Germany, as well as why America and England agreed to use nuclear weapons against Japan. Bruce Lee, who had access to 1.5 million pages of U.S. Army documents and 15,000 pages of the sometimes daily top-secret messages sent to Tokyo from Japanese diplomats stationed in Berlin and elsewhere, constructs the most complete history available on American codebreaking activity and its consequences. He concisely documents the extraordinary casualties both American and Japanese forces would have suffered in an invasion and occupation of Japan, demonstrating through intercepted secret communications between Japanese leaders that Tokyo was adamant in its refusal to surrender.

Stunning. Without it you don't know WWII.......1999-05-16
Read it. It takes away the schroud of politics into the reality of a very difficult world situation, with life and death decisions, troubling potential alliances, and knowledge available to only those who could be counted on by the fingers of one hand. A must read.
Stunning book. Best historical read in years!.......1998-06-22
Lee's masterful account draws you in like a spy novel, even though you already know the ending! His book provides the clear reasoning behind why allied leadership made decisions that, until this book was written, looked like blunders. As the reader learns how Marshall and his generals applied the information gained from the routine interception and decryption of high-level enemy communication, his understanding of the grand strategy of WWII will be greatly enhanced. A stunning achievement, this book will become a "must read" for WWII historians and buffs alike. Everyone who has read this book on my recommendation has been equally impressed.
It further provides clear information which soundly debunks the convoluted rationalizations of those "politically correct" Smithsonian historians and their fellow travelers who have been so eager to portray the allied side (or at least America) as the "bad guys" in the war.
How the allies really used the Ultra and Purple codes to win.......1998-06-21
Marching Orders reveals for the first time what the Allies knew about Axis plans and strategies during WW II . The combined information revealed to them by Ultra and Japanese codes is staggering. Throw everything you know about WW II out the window, for this book will teach why events unfolded as they did. Direct quotes from Axis leaders read by the Allies in real time. An amazing fountain of information that must be savored! You will never view Allied generals in the same light again!

A good introduction to Karate and other martial art forms........2001-08-15
This is a good introduction to martial arts and a primer on Karate; a hand-and-foot fighting method developed in Okinawa from Chinese Kung Fu. The beginning of martial arts, as we know it today, is generally acknowledged to have come to China from India and Tibet 2000 years before Christ was born. Initially, these forms were exercises used by monks to keep their body fit and as protection against bandits. This early form of martial arts practiced and perfected by the monks at the Shaolin monastery is known as Kung Fu.
Kung fu soon expanded into a method of self-defense that would protect the monks from bandits when they traveled. Stories soon got out how various monks would soundly defeat multiple opponents and when the Emperor heard the stories, he asked the Shaolin monks to come protect him in his court and help him fight his enemies.
Karate is ONE form of marital arts but, in this book the authors fail to clearly express this. No evaluation or comparisons between the different martial art forms are made. This would have been very helpful. Since Karate was derived out of Kung Fu the authors do a reasonable job covering its history. Other martial art forms: Akido, Jijitsu, Tae Kwon Do, also get a page or two.
This is a simple introduction that helps you understand how Karate evolved and how it has found its place in our modern world. It has very good photos and a wonderful section on Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. If you are a young person wanting to get a better understanding of this martial art form then this would be a good book to begin with. Recommended.
A good all-round introduction to Karate for new students.......1999-11-12
This book will especially appeal to both the younger reader and to any student beginning Karate. It does not over elaborate which is a common failing of many martial arts publications. Instead, a good all-round history from origins to present day are covered in a way which keeps the reader interested. This book is probably not as relevant to the more advanced Karate student, but nevertheless is still entertaining. A great gift for any budding Bruce Lee you might know!
Buddhism & Bruce Lee have nothing to do with Karate........1998-08-06
Buddhism & Bruce Lee have nothing to do with Karate. No more need be said on this book. There are a lot of other, good books on the subject of karate available through Amazon.com.

A for effort, and five stars for research!.......2002-03-22
Although this book could be a bit of a headache for anyone who's grown accustomed to an easy pulp-fiction read, it is nevertheless impeccably researched. The material presented, everything from court documents to official correspondence to casual correspondence, presents a startling factual picture of "the ties that bind", and manages to avoid the Usenet-style conspiratorial bent that shows up in most other books documenting the strange Dulles-Kennedy-Bush triangle. American history at its strangest!
Five stars for tracking down and formatting the immense volume of material in this book, and five stars for having the couage to print it. A bargain at any price- in fact I'll trade my copy for a nice Texas gusher, if anyone's interested...
Why Are So Many People Happy on EBAY?.......2001-02-07
I find this volume well researched and extremly incriminating. Why are so many people happy with this volume on Ebay. Adamson has many positive reviews on Ebay. Everyone who has purchased the volume has left a positive review, it seems on EBAY at user I.D. at ciajfk.com. If it is so hard to follow, why are they happpy? C.W.
NEWSPAPER WRITER STEVE PEREZ COAUTHORED BOOK.......2000-01-16
In response to negative review, Steve Perez worked at the Santa Cruz Sentinel for about 10 years. Perez wrote on the homicides in Santa Cruz County. The Sentinel is owned by a division of Dow Jones Inc, and one of the largest stockholder is Mary Bancroft's daughter under the Jane Bancroft trust. Mary Bancroft was a CIA agent and she was the lover of CIA Director, Warren Commissioner Allen Dulles and CIA assest Henry Luce. If you had read first half of the book and gave up you would have read Perez's work. There may be a couple of type'os possibly because when using Quark Express I had to take manuscript to Kinko's and another high grade printer. When I load program it reformatted the text for the entire volume. I went through to clean them up. Have had few complaints since 1996. Many in the JFK assassination community have praised the volume for it's damning evidence against on George de Mohrenschildt's ties to Prescott and George Bush Sr. Bruce Campbell Adamson
George Bush Supporter Reviewed Book -Ignored Evidence.......2000-01-13
What other publisher will publish the truth? Reviewer must have a political This evidence contains evidence that proves George Bush Sr. was involved in JFK's demise no other news agency will touch it.
Difficult to follow.......2000-01-06
I found this book VERY difficult to follow. It contained many typographical errors, misspellings, and inappropriate word choices and phraseology. The content was poorly organized. I had expected a cogent articulation of the situation, the facts, conclusions, and recommendations for further reseach or review. This book contained none of these. I struggled through at least one-half of the book and then gave up. I scanned the rest of the book and decided it was not worth my time. If I could return it for a refund I would do so. Having said all of this, the readers of this review need to know I am not a casual reader of books about the topic. Over the years I have read over 20 to 25 books about the assassination of JFK. I was hoping to learn something more, new, or different. I was disappointed because the author probably had something very worthwhile to say but his message was lost in his very poor presentation. My recommendation would be for him to give whatever information he collected to someone else to write.

ESSENTIAL FOR THE MUSIC ENTREPRENEUR.......2007-08-17
I have read and re-read this book several times. Before I started my company ([...]) I was running incircles trying to discover the best way to take my music career to the next level. If you buy this book make a promise to commit to the steps that Jeffery lays out.
Many readers who come from a creative and production background might be turned off by the basic advice that is discussed here but don't fool yourself! This is a great book that can give you the structure to succeed at your own business.
great insights.......2006-12-19
Self-promotion in the music business is key to a successful career. There are very few other passions that require as much effort be put towards selling one's self. This book will give you great ideas, like how to write a business plan and how to develop a marketable image. It has information that is especially good for the beginner; it helped me by teaching me how to develop a plan for success. It also helps because it reminds you not to be discouraged by rejection; all artists have to get turned down many times before someone recognizes their potential. This book is totally worth its price, as the information is priceless!
Very interesting.......2006-05-20
Promoting is the key! A good product which is not promoted will be left untouched while an average one with good publicity will sell millions of copies! If you know what I mean you will surely buy this book and promoting your music will never be easier. If you wonder why your products are still lying on the shelves while others which are of less value make a hit on the market you need this book and you need this fast because it will be a waste of potential to let your good music unnoticed. Go ahead get noticed and become popular!
Excellent - Music Marketing's Best Effort.......2002-07-17
I first discovered Music Marketing in "This Business of Music" from Billboard publications- If you buy THAT book, make sure you
buy THIS one.
Ruthless Self-Promotion in the Music Industry is like a personal meeting with Anthony Robbins on music-marketing steroids.
The plans of action that are outlined in this book resulted in both added sales for me, as well as renewed self-confidence in approach.
Jeff Fisher covers bases in this book that you may not even know exist! To properly play the game, you have to know the rules and this book goes out of the way to define those.
Everything from graphics, to booking to CD marketing are all covered in great detail and in such a way as to really help you in your efforts to be a success in the music trade. BUY THIS BOOK!
overall, pretty good for a beginner.......2002-04-02
This book is pretty good. Maybe a little too expensive, but not bad. I think the section on the internet was lacking, but you can buy a cheap little guide like BUZZ YOUR MP3 (available here at Amazon) to cover the internet side of promoting music. The author could have come up with some more examples, but all in all, this is a good start for someone who is new to promoting!
