Light, easy to read story..........2001-12-12
This book was a lot of fun to read because it addressed one of the secret wishes a lot of middle-aged women keep to themselves -to wake up in a younger, glamorous body with a dream job, sexy boyfriend, and a limo :) I won't spoil how it happens so follow the fun tale of Elisabeth Whitfield as she takes over the body of TV reporter Gypsy Dugan and sit on the edge of your seat wondering what she's going to do next! Will she really use Gypsy's body to get her own husbands attention?! You bet :)
Absorbing story; great characters; realistic emotions/dialog.......1999-08-21
New author to me and I loved the book. Situation somewhat predictable but I felt all characters were well-drawn, with authentic emotions and dialogue. Entertaining view of TV news business, with additional mystery of who is stalking heroine. Since heroine is long-married middle-aged woman, I could identify and empathize with her. Book would make an excellent TV movie because scenes were so vivid. I look forward to reading others by same author.

The perfect companion volume to the "BtVS" musical.......2003-06-28
I have three different CD versions and the "for your consideration" Emmy video tape, so of course I am going to add "the original shooting script from the acclaimed musical episode" of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." We all thought that once Joss Whedon was nominated for his script of "Hush" the Emmy people had recognized what great work he had been doing in relative obscurity over there on the WB. We figured "The Body" would obviously get a nomination, but that did not happen. Then we though "once More, With Feeling" was a no brainer, but, ironically, it turns out we were right and the people who do Emmy nominations do, in point of fact, have no brains.
This edition of "Once More, With Feeling" proves once again that the "official" volumes associated with "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" are top drawer. What we have here is much more than the script, but let us start with that, because this is a Joss Whedon script, and if you have ever read one of these efforts you know that he tosses around editorial comments with gleeful abandon. For example, the script begins with the TEASER, which immediately explains how there is NO TEASER, but sketches what he would like to see if they have the time. Even if you have the entire script memorized, you will still have fun reading Joss' stage directions. This is essentially the shooting script, which is just a way of saying that you are not going to find lots of stuff that ended up on the cutting room floor, especially since the episode ran eight minutes over anyhow.
Once you finish the script, you happily discover you are not even halfway through the book yet. There is a list of "Musical Terminology from the Script" that helpfully explains not only the basics such as melodies and verse, but also the pop culture references to Carmen Miranda's coconuts, Seventy-six (bloody) trombones and "Koombaya." Then we have "I've Got a Theory," where Joss not only explains about the genesis of this musical episode, but also offers insight on the role of music in the series (there is an especially interesting section that talks about "The Body"). Marti Noxon offers insights on the production problems and other behind the scenes personnel provide additional details, including the literary idea of nonstop dancing (i.e., "The Red Shoes"). "Something to sing about" provides a musical look at the episode, explaining the rational behind the various types of music. Of course, we already know that the strength of the songs were that they were so wonderfully character drive. "Where Do We Go From Here?" covers the rest of the season in answer to the musical question that closes the episode.
Obviously, by this point we have more than gotten our money's worth from this volume but now we get to the color photographs taken mostly from the episode and then you get sheet music for all of the major songs (i.e., not for the bit pieces "Parking Ticket" and "They Got the Mustard Out"). That is certainly a lot for your money and a lot more than just the script and/or the sheet music. When you have a rare individual like Joss Whedon, who puts together a first rate-television show that keeps finding ways of establishing high water marks, and who also takes care of the show's fans in terms of products like this, then supporting him and his efforts through out patronage is both a privilege and a pleasure.

Second Chances.......2006-09-29
Once more with Feeling
by Nora Roberts
Reviewed by Pamela Ackerson (author of Home of the Braves trilogy)
I've always thought second time around, second chances when it came to romance was pretty much a person's way of trying to hold onto the past. Ms Roberts has taken a hold onto the past situation and made it a happily ever after. Through the whole story I had a warm, happy feeling even when the main characters were struggling with their ghosts. It was a good story, definitely the kind to read curled up on the couch with a cup of tea.
Worst Nora Ever.......2005-08-24
I am a huge fan of Nora Roberts and read her books religiously. I have loved almost every book of hers that I picked up but I did not like this one at all! It was cliche and Brand was an A-hole. You can skip this one.
A sweetly romantic, easy to read, feel good story.......2005-05-02
from the back cover: Their songs and their passion would electrify a waiting world. Raven Williams was a singer who had an overwhelming need to love and be loved, and whose voice of rich dark velvet had catapulted her to fame. Brandon Carstairs was a musician in whom the charming Irish Dreamer warred with a practical British reserve. The music they made together was exciting, disturbing and erotic. Soon it would reach a dangerous crescendo.
From inside the front cover: Singing with Brand was more moving than a kiss, more sexual than a caress. When they finished, their voices hung for a moment in the air. Brand saw her lips tremble before he brought her close to him and took them. Spotlighted before thousands, Raven didn't hear the roar of applause, the cheers, the shouts. cameras flashed like firworks, but she felt wrapped in velvet darkness. She lost all sense of time. His lips might have moved on hers for seconds, hours, or even days....
*******
This book was far superior to other Nora Roberts' older books that I've read, almost reaching the quality of her current releases. Although written in 1983, the story itself and the style of writing wasn't at all dated. I loved the well-written way the romance and attraction was presented, with very subtle erotic undertones, but without being overtly graphic at all. Set against an artistic musical background, much of this story takes place in beautifully described Cornwall England, adding a depth to the story that most romances of this type don't have. And both heroes were very likable people, whose dialogue flowed naturally and for the most part, without silly hostile bickering, another unusual feature of many of these types of romances.
Raven and Brand were a couple five years earlier, but went their separate ways in a hurtful manner after a terrible misunderstanding, yet each had never truly gotten over loving the other. When their brilliant musical minds are thrown together to write the score to a musical, they must face the issues that had separated them in the past, and come to a new understanding, reconciling their love.
I deducted one star because the story came to a natural ending point once the professional project had ended. However, another silly misunderstanding was unnecessarily thrown in to separate the couple once again. To me, it sort of undid all the beauty of the previous 200+ pages.
okay, but not great.......2003-06-19
Raven is a famous singer and Brandon is a charming musician. They'd once been in a relationship, but Brandon left. Raven assumed he'd left because she hadn't wanted to have sex with him, but that wasn't really the case. When Brandon comes back five years later, he wants to try to resume their relationship. Raven resists, but resistance becomes more difficult after they team up to come up with the score for a much anticipated musical. However, for their relationship to last this time around, Raven has to learn to share the more vulnerable side of herself with Brandon. Although I did enjoy this book as a quick read, with occaisional parts that made me smile, nothing about it really grabbed me. Brandon and Raven were both interesting, they weren't really characters that would stick around with me for a while. Also, I got tired of Raven's inability to share any of the really important parts of her life with Brandon. I don't see how she expected them to get into a serious relationship and stay that way without some sharing going on. Even with her lack of relationship experience, I still felt like she should've noticed that she was holding back things from him and not acted like every problem with their relationship was Brandon's fault. Although this isn't too bad a read, I would recommend picking up one of Nora Roberts' other works more - The MacGregor Grooms is good, as is The Stanislaski Brothers.
What a page turner!.......2003-03-03
This is definately one book by Nora Roberts you will not want to miss! A real page turning story!
Book Description
Giles (to Buffy): "What did you sing about?"
Buffy: "I, uh...don't remember. But it seemed perfectly normal."
Xander: "But disturbing. And not the natural order of things and do you think it'll happen again? 'Cause I'm for the natural order of things."
Since she's been brought back from the dead (for the second time), Buffy the Vampire Slayer hasn't quite been feeling her calling. Sure, she still gives the underworld a run for its money, but her heart just isn't in the job. Luckily, she's been able to keep her lack of enthusiasm a somewhat secret.
Until now. When someone accidentally summons a music-making demon named Sweet, Buffy finds herself belting out her most private emotions. And she's not the only one -- before the battle is done, each of the Scoobies will have uncovered -- through song and dance, for better or for worse, each others' most guarded thoughts -- prompting the question, "where do we go from here?"
Here, in one volume, find complete, uncut dialogue, song lyrics, sheet music, and a full-color photo insert. For the true fan, a complete, authorized guide to the smash hit musical episode!

A must for Buffy fans.......2006-12-29
If you love BTVS, they you probably love the "Once More, With Feeling" episode. And you MUST add the script book to your collection. Awesome.
a must have for fans.......2006-05-23
This volume should be purchased by two kind of readers: the fan of the series who wish to possess everything was ever officially published and the fan who wishes to learn more.
I address this review to the second kind because the first one simply needs no spur to buy. He will be pleased with the text of the songs and with the pictures.
Someone interested in the know how of Buffy's authors, possibly to learn how to become a screen writer, will be interested in reading the script. Those interested in the music, such as myself, will find the score (vocals + piano) of all the songs.
I gave just four stars because of the commentary which was a little disappointing: from Mr Whedon I expected much more humour.
This volume is rather inexpensive so I think no one will be disturbed by the average quality of paper and pictures.
Great Product and...........2006-04-13
a lot of fun. This one of our 2 favorite Buffy episodes. It's a lot of fun reading the script along with watching the episode. The musical script is in the back of the book so you get all the songs as well.
Good item for Buffy fans.......2005-08-21
The Buffy musical episode was undoubtedly one of the most memorable moments in Buffy history, perhaps in television history as well. This script book is a good item for avid watchers and musical fans, as it includes not only the full original script, but sheet music and photo inserts. I found the sheet music (for all of the songs featured in the episode) very fun and useful, especially if you're a music fan, like myself.
Interesting book but I prefer CD, watching episode.......2005-02-28
I've seen the episode several times and I have the CD (parts of that are actually pretty good)so I decided to get the accompanying book to go along with it.
You'll get introductory material by Joss Whedon, a preface setting up the background for the episode followed by a copy of the script itself which other reviewers say is somewhat different to the broadcast version.
After that you'll find sections covering music details and backgrounding for various show segments. This is followed by a short color section of photos, most from the episode itself.
The last section of the book is I guess a complete selection of the sheet music, not of much interest to me.
I did find the book interesting but I much prefer watching "Once more with Feeling", or listening to it, than reading about it.

Great Book!.......2006-01-19
This book was really adorable. It evokes so many emotions that you feel like you are actually living with the characters! I could barely put it down. It's a great, fun read.
Way to go again.......2005-03-10
I loved this book. It was sweet and funny. This is my 3rd Herring book and in the middle. Beyond All Reason was the best.
A REALISTIC PIECE!.......2000-08-03
This book presents characters that are down-to-earth in realistic situations, demonstrating real-life emotions. I really liked this aspect because romance fiction is often dominated with characters and lifestyles beyond the realm of the average womyn.
Breathtaking example of true love, lots of emotions!.......2000-02-11
This book is about two women in love with each other. Laura the main character is a dedicated hard working woman while her partner Mavis is some what of a player, also job oreinted, but most of all very immature. These women have over an eight years relationship behind them and stand the chance of losing it all including their friendship. This book displays beautiful love making that only the soft touch of two women in love together can share. It also shows the many stages of growing up and finding ones true self.
Couldn't put the book down..........1999-08-18
This is the first book I've read by J. Herring and it was fabulous. I couldn't put the book down. It made me smile, made me laugh, made me sad, and it had a great ending. I only wish these characters were alive in some of her other books. After reading this book I have now ordered several others. Excellent reading.
Customer Reviews:
Definetly good!.......1999-05-20
I love this book. Hey, I am a teen-ager, and loved it. It is really descriptive, so uh--reader discretion advised, but otherwise...great, great, and marvelous, darling!
Very Interesting, Yet Disturbing.......1997-12-29
The young women in this book are all very troubled. They all have slept with some of the most important men in Hollywood. Most of the stories are quite interesting and it makes for a quick and good read.
