Intercoastal Waterway Chartbook.......2007-01-12
Great book, you have to have them to run the intracoastal and it's MUCH cheaper at Amazon then in the bookstores - or boat stores!!
Intracoastal Waterway Chartbook : Norfolk, Virginia, to Miami, Florida.......2005-10-09
A must for traveling the Intercoastal Waterway. A very detailed illustrative set of information to successfully achieve your trip.
Excellent source... More than a set of charts!.......1999-07-14
Very usable in it's small page spiral format. Flipping pages as one cruises north or south is easy, and takes very little space at the helm. The annotations indicating marina locations save looking in separate guides when a stopping point is desired. Some obvious side trips (e.g. Banana River) are omitted and would have helped increase usefulness if included.
Excellent up-to-date reference.......1999-04-11
The charts are well organized and very reliable. Only a minimum number of aids were missing or changed in number. Some of the bridge info is a little dated but generally did not cause any navigational problems.

Book Description
An insane criminal threatens to destroy a family, and the police are powerless to protect them.
For fourteen years convicted rapist Max Cady nursed his hatred for Sam Bowden into an insane passion for revenge. He lived only for the day he would be free -- free to track down and destroy the man who had put him behind bars.
Murder was merciful compared to what Cady had in mind -- and what Cady had in mind was Bowden's innocent and lovely teenaged daughter . . . .
"A powerful and frightening story." -- The New York Times
Customer Reviews:
Enjoyable Read.......2007-08-06
This is a good read and MacDonald has an easy to read prose style. This is an enjoyable but not gripping book. I liked it but it is not a grab you by the shirt collar suspense book.
"I'm Gonna Give You The Word, Lieutenant.".......2005-08-03
CAPE FEAR (formerly THE EXECUTIONERS, which was somewhat of a spoiler title and better changed) is one of prolific author John D. MacDonald's many classic thrillers. MacDonald, who brought the world Travis McGee, has written a short, taut frightening tale of a homicidal stalker.
In 1943 while overseas, JAG Lieutenant Sam Bowden stopped the rape of an Aussie Sheila and helped to convict one Sergeant Max Cady, sending him up for life at Leavenworth. But now it's 1957, Bowden is comfortably practicing law in the Hudson Valley and environs, and Max Cady's sentence has been commuted. Cady smashes Bowden's idyllic Eisenhower-era life to bits by beginning the slow and deliberate hunt of his wife and children, while Sam's beloved legal system is paralyzed by its own sense of fairness.
A phenomenally frightening book which was made into 1962's terrifying film CAPE FEAR starring Gregory Peck (as Bowden) and Robert Mitchum (as Cady), and 1991's remake starring Nick Nolte and Robert DeNiro, CAPE FEAR is one of those rare books that makes you shiver---and the Peck/Mitchum version particularly is even more effective, one of the best book-to-film translations ever. Well worth reading (and/or seeing) CAPE FEAR lives all the way up to its name.
Great Book.......2001-12-13
Cape Fear is a great book. I think it is the best I've ever written. In this story, convicted rapist Max Cady is released from prison and goes after the star witness against him, a lawyer, Sam Bowden. Bowden has to defend his family from Cady before he kills them all. I would reccommend this book to anyone.
Nice, smooth read.......2001-08-17
Cape Fear is a quick book to read, and it's fun. The plot is based on the Bowden family: Sam, the father, Carol, his wife, and the three kids, Nancy, who will turn fifteen soon, and the younger Jamie and Bucky. During World War II, some thirteen years before, Sam Bowden prevented Max Cady, a young private, from raping an australian girl in Melbourne. Cady was tried, convicted and sent to prison in a forced-labour camp for life. Unfortunatelly for Bowden, he was released and has come after him and his family back in the US. Although the book is quite short, MacDonald is able to develop two of the main characters. The story is focused only in the Bowden family, which means Max Cady only appears when he interacts with them. And that's too bad, cause Cady could have been more active, allowing the reader to get to know him better. So, he's kind of a evil presence hanging over the story, and even if it's bad for the reader's personal taste, it's good for the plot. What we do know is that he is a total psycho, and his only intent in life is to end the Bowdens'lives. Sam Bowden is the lawyer who lives his life the way he makes his living: in complete accordance to the laws. His life turns upside down when he realises his only chance against Cady is getting harm done to him, which goes against his conscience. And Carol is the most interesting character of all, like a Scarlett O'Hara, she doesn't mind what things she must do in order to achieve her objectives. I think the story could be a little longer, making more explicit the relationship between Cady and the Bowdens, the way it was in the movie featuring De Niro. Also, Cady is too good a character to be spent the way he was in the plot. All in all, a good book, just too short.
Compare and contrast/Movie vs. Book.......1999-07-18
Though John D. MacDonald's "The Excecutioners" (renamed "Cape Fear" after the release of the movie) is an exceptional novel, one cannot help but compare it to the movie. Somehow, seeing these performances put on screen and portrayed to electrifying intensity (most notably the 1962 version, where Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck crackle with tension -- and Mitchum performs one of the most believeable performances ever filmed) makes it even better than merely reading it. I am not saying that, overall, movies are better than books, I believe neither medium is "better", both having their own advantages. MacDonald sure needs to receive kudos, though, for writing mounting suspense and for creating a memorable character in the villain Max Cady. Book: ****1/2. Movie ('62): *****. Movie ('91): ****1/2.

A Horriffying Thriller.......2006-12-19
In this horriffying thriller, 4 teenagers get a job at "Wolf Inn". They got a friend's aunt to drive them there, then she starts having pains. So they take her to a cousin to help her, then they go to the island. Then they meet the man of the hotel, he tells them the hotel needs fixing and that they should go. The teenagers convince him into fixing the hotel to stay. So he says, " Yes." Then weird things start happening. My opinion is that you should read this great thriller, if you enjoy horrifying books. Also if you enjoy the books R.L. Stine writes, then this book is for you!
don't look behind you.......2006-12-12
the 4 teenagers never know when to look behind them because they are staying in an old creepy hotel.it is an action packed thriller.and I would recomend kids of ages 7-12
Scary, huh?.......2003-08-04
'Party summer' is a thriller that I can assure you would love. Maybe you find it confusing, but later on you will understand everything perfectly, so I don't recommend you to star reading the book but then you must finish it 'cause you won't get it.
When I started reading this book, by the way amazing, I fin it a little bit boring... But in the middle.... Oh, my God! It was really suspenseful and I just couldn't stop! I totally advice you reading it, you will extremely enjoy it! It is for all ages, but specially for teens!
I hope it helped you.
TRAPPED!.......2002-09-18
I totally recommend everyone reading this book. In my opinion, it is one of R. L. Stine's best books. At the beginning, a girl named Cari and three friends go for a job at an old hotel. When they get there, someone tells them to leave immediately. They don't listen and start working. Everything was okay until they see a ghost, until Simon Fear dies, until they try to escape the island and notice they're TRAPPED!
Great Book, READ!.......2002-01-20
I do not really remember what the story was about except some parts. I am in the 8th grade and had last read the book in the 5th grade when the other day I started thinking of the book and how good it was. I couldnt remember the title and I have spent hours trying to find this book on the internet. After I looked at some titles that looked familiar I found Party Summer, and knew that was the book. I looked at some of the reviews, and sure enough it was! I was sooo happy and after I am finished writing this review I am going to buy this book! Please read, because after about 4 years I remembered how good the book was, and I know that you will love it too. Dont listen to the bad reviews because if you do, you dont know what youre missing! Murder Along the Cape Fear.......2006-08-02
Though the excerpts of this book sounded really good, I just couldn't get into it because the book was too much about the author and not enough of the story line itself. Half way through the book I gave it away to someone else who might have better luck getting into it.
A light read, but murder's not the focus..........2006-01-29
Morgan's fondness of his hometown is clearly evident in this book, written by a native son who basically tells a story of Fayetteville...though "Murder Along the Cape Fear" is the title, the author doesn't really make these regional crimes the focus of the book, and they take up relatively little text space in comparison to the rest of his narrative...those local to the area, or who are native North Carolinians, will find this book a light read with interesting facts about the town, its geography, demographics, the emergence of Ft. Bragg, and finally, some of the crimes that occurred there. The author tends to stray on tangents at times, "over-explaining" events that had little to do with Fayetteville, and focusing heavily on his boyhood before returning to the topic some pages later...the goal of the book, which the author claims is establishing a common thread throughout the town's history by way of murder, isn't accomplished...overall, not crime-oriented as the title may suggest, but simply a light read written in a "living room conversation" style...
A Great Look Back.......2005-10-25
I am from Nc so I thought I might enjoy this book. It is full of little known facts about the Cape Fear and Fayetteville. If you live anywhere near the Cape Fear river this is a good one.

Guide to Sea Kayaking in North Carolina.......2003-09-10
A wonderful timesaver for the kayaker on the Outer Banks. This well organized guide provides concise information of all the day trips in the area including launch directions. I've been on 6 of her trips already and find the information to be accurate and informative. I'd have to spend significant time gathering all this information from the locals myself. A must have book!
Fantastic book! Perfect for OBX Paddlers!.......2003-05-09
I have been going to the Outer Banks for over 20 years now but am new to kayaking. I was looking for a book about kayaking trips all along the Outer Banks. I found this one and bought it. I read through it and now I have a second copy of it so I can pull the maps out to take on my trips without destroying the original.
Pam Malec knows the area really well and has plotted some excellent trips to take. She also gives some great advice on things to watch out for (bugs in Ocracoke, tidal influences, high boat traffic areas, etc) and places to stay and eat in the area of the trips. The book also gives a few history lessons on the area and other interesting facts (Ever wonder about the origin of the marshmellow? Get this book and find out!)
With her book, I have planned three different trips for my next vacation to the area.
This is a fantastic book and I highly recommend it for anyone planning to kayak along the North Carolina coast.
An Excellent Regional Paddling Guidebook.......2001-04-23
If you are a coastal paddler who plans to visit the area near the Outer Banks of North Carolina, you will not want to be without this guide.
Pam Malec has compiled an excellent trip planning guide with over 30 day trip paddle plans. Each listing has a general map of the route and describes the required skill level for the trip, wildlife & landmarks of the area, launching and landing sites, safety issues, navigational aids, and camping, lodging & restaurant options. Each trip description also includes a page of local lore (including one about an attack swan!) which really adds to the depth of the guide and to each individual trip.
A chapter on the best kayak surfing spots in the area, safety and surf etiquette and appendices listing local events & paddling clubs, recommended reading, paddlesport rental/ instruction/outfitters, National & State Parks, reserves and refuges really make this an excellent and comprehensive regional paddling guide.
Book Description
Between 1700 and 1775 no colony in British America experienced more impressive growth than North Carolina, and no region within the colony developed as rapidly as the Lower Cape Fear. Totally uninhabited by Europeans in 1700, this isolated corner of North Carolina's southern coast is particularly noteworthy for its relatively late colonization and its rapid rise to economic prominence. First settled in 1725, the region grew to be the most prosperous in North Carolina by 1775. In his study of this eighteenth-century settlement, Bradford J. Wood explores frontier development in a region surrounded by more-established communities. Challenging many commonly held beliefs, he presents the Lower Cape Fear as a prime example for understanding North Carolinaand the entirety of colonial Americaas a patchwork of regional cultures. Employing social history tools used in studies of New England and Chesapeake but seldom applied to colonies further south, Wood examines probate, legal, real estate, and tax records to recreate the lives of 5,000 Cape Fear residents during the era 1725 to 1775. Rarely have such methods of intensive archival research, collective biography, and computer-driven sampling been applied to the writing of Carolina history, and Wood's approach makes for a pathbreaking application in a markedly understudied region.
Wood diverges from previous historiography by arguing that the Lower Cape Fear should be considered an entity separate and distinct from the rest of the Carolina coastal plain. While he links North and South Carolinians by family ties, economic enterprise, and cultural aspirations, he underscores the differences between the regions, including the Lower Cape Fear's commercial dependence on forest industries rather than rice culture. Wood ties these findings to broader processes of regional development and to the forces that shaped life for settlers in eighteenth-century America.
Book Description
The idea of "region" in America has often served to isolate places from each other, observes Douglas Reichert Powell. Whether in the nostalgic celebration of folk cultures or the urbane distaste for "hicks," certain regions of the country are identified as static, insular, and culturally disconnected from everywhere else.

Book Description
While religious diversity is often considered a relatively recent phenomenon in America, the Cape Fear region of North Carolina has been a diverse community since the area was first settled. The Cape Fear River and the port city of Wilmington were more urban than the rest of the state; thus the region provided people with opportunities seldom found in other parts of North Carolina. These opportunities drew residents from many ethnic backgrounds, and the residents brought their religious traditions with them.
In A Coat of Many Colors, Walter H. Conser Jr. explores how religious and racial diversity in the Cape Fear region have functioned as a microcosm for the South and examines the ways in which religion can affect such diverse aspects of life as architecture and race relations.

Everything you'll need to know how to play music from this album..........2007-08-21
As the title states, this book has everything you'll need to know how to play the music from the album The Colour and the Shape by the Foo Fighters. It has the transcriptions for all instruments - which includes standard notation for drums, bass, and usually two guitar parts and tablature for the guitar parts. The notation/tab looks to be spot on.
This is an excellent book if you're serious about learning how to play this music note for note.
