In keeping with the first two books in this trilogy, Conversations With God, Book 3 continues to clarify the muddy waters of our spiritual existence, but moves from individual and global issues to "universal truths," which apply to all levels of existence from the microscopic to the macrocosmic. It is difficult to criticize God, but if he is as pleasant as he presents himself in Walsch's books, then he won't mind the paltry mention of a structural problem. A hefty portion of Conversations With God, Book 3 backtracks to topics that were well covered in Book 1, and while a certain amount of recap is good to build on, Walsch's repeated return to these earlier conversations gets a bit frustrating for the reader who is familiar with the earlier books. Minor blemishes aside, Conversations With God, Book 3 explores some of the most fantastic subjects that people are prone to ponder under starry evening skies: What happens when we die? What is time? Are we alone in the universe? Walsch's dialogue with the creator puts these and other imponderables into comprehendible terms. If these revelations are true, and it is ultimately up to us to know them as truths or not, then the universe is a very intriguing place, and we haven't come close to realizing our potential in understanding it. However, the great thing Conversations With God, Book 3 makes clear is that we can understand the universe if we so choose. --Brian Patterson

Are You Listening?.......2007-05-18
This book series is a must read for all seekers of truth. But if you are not open minded, if you are not teachable then do not bother. You must admit to yourself that you may not actually know the truth in these matters. If you can do that then the seeds of truth may sprout and grow. If you dismiss this opportunity then you may very well miss your calling in this life. Time is short for those who wish to rise for the coming changes on Earth. Listen if you have ears!

Beautifully Inspirational Truths.......2007-04-08
Best book of the trilogy. I noticed that about 90% of the negative reviews are from Christians who tout the Bible as their source to discredit the inspirational truths in this book. The problem with trying to convince them that this book rings true on many points is like trying to teach a kindergartener calculus: They just won't get it until they are ready. Their egos seem to be so rigid at this point in their growth cycle they just can't let go. Eventually they will learn. So I have given up on trying to convince them that their path is not the only one. Someday, like I did, when they are ready they will learn.
Fundies Christians are the Anti Christ (if there was one) .......2007-03-23
I do not believe in the Anti Christ, but it is self-evident that evil is the stupidity and darkness on earth best represented in the western world by the fundie Bible thumping simpletons who think they actually have a mission by spreading their bigoted and narrow minded message to the more intelligent populous. If this sounds harsh it is because I cannot stand that self-righteous, ignorant bunch.
While CwG is not perfect nor it is complete I love the message (actually the truth) and despise the ignorant morons who say it is not right because it "contradicts the bible".
If you take the Bible word by word then what say you to the following passages?
Happy To Kill Children
"Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." (Psalms 137:9, KJV)
"How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones Against the rock." (Psalms 137:9, New American Bible)
"Happy the man who shall seize and smash your little ones against the rock!" (Psalms 137:9, New American Bible)
"a blessing on anyone who seizes your babies and shatters them against a rock!" (Psalms 137:9, Jerusalem Bible)
CWG #3.......2007-02-14
The best of the CWG books and the one most given away to others. It answers the question of is there other life out there and what is it like. Even if this was totally science fiction it would be worth the read. And I believe there is much to think on here based on my life's research as a scientist. You can't have to much information so this must be read if you seriously call yourself a seeker or quester.
WAKEUP.......2007-01-03
There is a prophet on the earth today as there has been in other dispensations and Walsch hasn't taken the time to meet him. The scriptures have all the information we need and if anyone put in as much effort as they do into reading this unenlightened book into reading the truth, they would be much happier then this book could get you.

This Book Delivers.......2007-09-04
This book really delivers if you're looking for a fair, in-depth look at what Loretta Young was like and to understand her daughter's difficult journey. This book is especially useful to Loretta Young fans since Young always seemed to want to paint an angelic saint-like image of herself. Loretta's human, just like the rest of us, and it's too bad she never figured out that it is okay to be human and make mistakes. I thought this book gave her mother a fair examination, and I would recommend it to Young fans as well as anyone who was ever raised to feel abandoned and unwanted.
An excellent book. I will reread it.......2007-08-16
I could not put the book down. Even though I am in my thirties, I love old movies. This was a very entertaining book and I am so glad I purchased it. The writer, unlike many other similar books, does not pity herself. She states the facts in a compelling manner. I found myself wanting to just reach out and give her a hug for the way she was brought up and treated. She really makes you feel like you were there. The pictures are great and really lend to the story. I would recommend this book wholeheartedly!!! It left me wanting to know what happened next in their lives.
A Different Loretta Young.......2006-09-14
Judy Lewis is the illegitimate daughter of Loretta Young and Clark Gable. Today, that sounds like nothing what with stars like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie having children out of wedlock and being praised for it. However, then, it was a major scandal, one that could have ruined both their careers forever. Young chose to have the baby instead of aborting it due to her Catholic faith and kept the child masquerading as her adopted daughter. In order to keep the secret, she did all she could to hide the traits she inherited from her parents by fixing the crooked front teeth that Young shared with her daughter and by surgically altering the size and shape of her ears that she shared with Gable.
It is startling and upsetting to think that Young would put an innocent child through that kind of torture instead of giving her up to another couple to love and care for. It seems we have another example of awful parenting by a major movie star here. I knew virtually nothing about Loretta Young's life other than the fact that I highly enjoy her pre-code films. Perhaps that is because she was still innocent during that era. It seems she hardened after that time; perhaps that was due to having a child. After reading this book, I have become angry at this woman for being so controlling, resentful, and condescending toward her own daughter, the girl that loved her mother despite constantly being destroyed by her actions.
Do not think that Lewis was trying for this result. Throughout the book, she praises her mother and tries to find explanations for her actions instead of blaming her. She is a commendable writer for her honesty and love for her subject despite everything. However, the truth came through.
Uncommon Knowledge.......2005-01-13
I saw Judy Lewis years ago in soap the Secret Storm and I noticed how much she resembled her mother Loretta Young. Therefore, I was very surprised when I read back then she was an "adoptee." I later read rumors here and there that she was a "love child" of Clark Gable and Loretta Young. I was not surprised by her revelations: anyone looking at her can see she was Loretta Young's natural daughter and there is a resemblance to Gable also. This is a story that needed to be told and it is good that Ms. Lewis did find out the truth about her roots. It also is an insightful look at the images of the stars back in the 1930s where someone having a child out of wedlock would be ruined. Today, there would be no problem revealing by a film star an out of wedlock pregnancy. This book is a must read for anyone interested in the Golden Age of Hollywood and for fans of Ms. Lewis and her natural parents, Loretta Young and Clark Gable.
Not Just One Autobiography.......2003-12-31
This is a very interesting book. It does not just tell the story of Judy Lewis, the illegitimate daughter of Clark Gable and Loretta Young, it also tells the story of a family over several generations. Judy had to dig into her mother and father's past to understand just what made them do what they did on that mountain in Baker, Washington that led to her being born. She tells about the histories of Loretta's parents-her mother virtually orphaned at the age of five- mother of five by the age of 28; a father who constantly cheated on his wife and left her raising five children all under the age of 10. As well as the history of her father, who's mother died at the age of 10 months, whose father never wanted Clark to be an actor because it was "sissy". Clark the man who married two women old enough to be his mothers.
She also describes the hardships they had to deal with when Loretta found out that she was pregnant. How the public knowing she had a baby by a married man would make her and Clark loose their jobs. Judy describes the acrobatics that Loretta did to make sure that the press never found out about her pregnancy and then what Loretta did to hide the fact that Judy was hers after she "adopted" her.
Judy goes on to describe her life after her mother married Tom Lewis. How Tom went from treating Judy like a princess to treating her like the hired help after his sons Christopher Paul and Peter Charles were born. Judy describes the years of emotional abuse that Tom meted out to her until the day when she was in her mid 20's and she heard him telling Christopher and Peter that because she was adopted she was not their sister.
Judy goes into detail about some of her friends and childhood adversaries. She tells about her friendship Daniel Mayer Selznick (the son of David O. Selznick and grandson of Louis B. Mayer.) She also tells about her friendship with people like Bucky Hearst (the grandson of William Randolph Hearst and cousin to Patty Hearst), and the children of Bing Crosby and Irene Dunne. Some of her adversaries were the children of other Hollywood Bigwigs who would make fun of Judy because of her big ears (a trait she inherited from her father and pasted on to her daughter and grandsons.) The teasing got so out of hand that Judy wanted to have surgery to get rid of them. Though she thought that the surgery was her idea it was really her mothers who did not want any evidence about the parentage of her "adopted" daughter because as long as Judy still had those "Dumbo" ears people would know that she was Clark Gables daughter.
Judy describes her early boyfriends like Robert Dornon and Jack Haley Jr. as well as the relationship she had with her fiancé Russell Hughes, whom nobody in her family liked. She goes into detail about her husband Joseph Tinney and their rocky relationship, which produced daughter Maria Tinney Dagit, and two grandchildren.
In the book, Judy also describes her on again off again relationship with her mother. She tells about when she was younger and her mother was very loving to her, but would not want to be asked about Judy's adoption to the scene after Judy was married and Judy finally confronted her mother about being her and Clark Gable's biological child to the fight that they had Mother's Day 1986 when the pain and anger Judy had about her childhood as well as the fact that her mother the movie star said that she did not have enough money to get a dress and pay for a plane ticket to Pennsylivania to go see Maria get married to Daniel Dagit.
All in all this is a very good book, and I recommend it to anybody interested in old Hollywood.

Book Description
In this book, Timm Mackley shares his experiences from implementing the Core Knowledge Sequence in a small town in southeastern Ohio. His scenarios offer a real understanding of why Core Knowledge has been such a wonderful experience for whole communities of learners. As Mackley describes the reasons for using the Core Knowledge Sequence, he substantiates those reasons with the authentic experiences of administrators, teachers, parents, and students.
The Core Knowledge Sequence, based on the work of E. D. Hirsch Jr., is a curriculum that describes what students should know and prescribes specific topics for instruction in kindergarten through 8th grade. What students learn throughout this sequence gives them a common base for additional learning. The Core Knowledge Sequence clearly answers the questions asked of teachers and administrators everywhere: What's being taught?
The answer is in the systematic syllabus of content. The Core Knowledge Sequence includes topics and subtopics in language arts, world history, American history, geography, visual arts, music, mathematics, and science. It specifies content for only half the school curriculum. The remaining half is preserved for topics chosen by the teacher or the local schools and districts.
Mackley offers suggestions on how to implement the Core Knowledge Sequence in your school or district, as well as information on how to network and find supplementary resources key to your school reform effort.

Waste of Time and Money.......2004-02-12
I had to read this book for a class on women's issues. I found it to be trite and filled with feminist propaganda. The authors are reminiscent of angry repressed 1960's ex-hippies still on a mission to save something. What I don't know.

Book Description
Francis Maes's comprehensive and imaginative book introduces the general public to the scholarly debate that has revolutionized Russian music history over the past two decades. Based on the most recent critical literature, A History of Russian Music summarizes the new view of Russian music and provides a solid overview of the relationships between artistic movements and political ideas.
The revision of Russian music history may count as one of the most significant achievements of recent musicology. The Western view used to be largely based on the ideas of Vladimir Stasov, a friend and confidant of leading nineteenth-century Russian composers who was more a propagandist than a historian. With the deconstruction of Stasov's interpretation, stereotyped views have been replaced by a fuller understanding of the conditions and the context in which composers such as Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Stravinsky created their oeuvres. Even the more recent history of Soviet music, in particular the achievement of Dmitry Shostakovich, is being assessed on new documentary grounds.
A more complex conception of Russian music develops as Maes explores the cultural and historical milieu from which great works have emerged. Questioning and re-examining traditional views, the author considers the personal development of composers, the relationship of art to social and political ideals in Russia, and the ideologies behind musical research.
Customer Reviews:
Non-technical; Perhaps useful to a dilettante.......2005-11-25
"A History of Russian Music," by Francis Maes, could have been better titled: "Music's Place in the History of Russia and the Soviet Union." Though there are some basic definitions given (scattered on pages throughout), there is not one musical example of any of the folk song types listed. For example, no one will, after reading this book alone, understand what a "protyazhyana" is, other than a "drawn-out song." One could say the same about any of Kenny G's music. Analysis of the music is limited. The author obviously assumes the reader has no knowledge of music theory. For example, in a particularly pedantic passage, he acknowledges that his explanation of the octatonic scale "sounds complicated." If you are interested in "play by play" examination of opera plots, etc., then this is the book for you. For an actual understanding of Russian musical style, there are better sources. This book appeared to be a dumbed-down version of Richard Taruskin's scholarship - one will note Taruskin is the most cited author in the book. All in all, not bad for the musical novice, and a great look at how music fit in with the history of Russia and the Soviet Union, but lacks clarity and detail in its definitions, and is without the technical analysis required for scholarly research. More frustrating than helpful. Great cover art though.
Used for Russian Music class.......2005-09-17
This book was required for my Russian Music History class, and so to save money, I bought it off Amazon. However, the great thing about this being our textbook is that it reads like a novel. It's very descriptive, gives all the information you might need on any particular major Russian composer, along with a lot of interesting background insight that helps the understanding of the music and composers even more. The history of Russia at the time of the composers is also included within and so this really is a great all around Russian Music History book. I'd recommend it to anyone needing information the topic.
