Now with nearly 120 step-by-step projects! New to this edition are a wide range of timely, popular projects including: home spa maintenance, installing water purifying systems; installing an up-flush toilet; laying a landscape irrigation system; installing a water softener; and installing a modern claw-foot tub with exposed plumbing pipes.
Customer Reviews:
Almost too many photos.......2007-03-26
This book is chock full of photos; so much that it detracts from providing information. I was trying to use it to replace a leaking shower faucet, but couldn't find any useful info about my setup. All there was were pictures of valves that weren't mine. I would like to see more troubleshooting chapters, and more possible fitting/material variations outlined. For instance I would like to know how to go from plastic to copper to galvanized etc.
Still if you doing a new install and have access to the exact material they use then it is good for that.
the complete guide to home plumbing.......2007-03-08
received book in excellent condition and in a timely manner
an excellent book........2007-01-10
It is an excellent book not only for handyman beginners but also for construction professionals to review plumbing details.
Complete Guide to Home Plumbing.......2006-11-30
If you are looking for pretty pictures this is the book to buy. It is not a book for doing plumbing. Be careful before you follow the instructions, it is not adquate for detail plumbing. It just gives you the basics. For example it does not give you the required distances for most plumbing fixtures and shows notching many wood studs in the wall which could cause serious damage to the structure. Be Aware!!
DIY, simply the best.......2006-11-25
Clear illustrations, many cutaways, and clear, concise language mark this edition of "The Complete Guide to Home Plumbing" as one of the best ever. I previewed eight or ten newer plumbing editions at my local library before purchasing, and this one stood heads above the rest. I fully recommend it.

Down to earth, practical methodology book.......1999-01-22
From a number of books I have been reading on passive energy topics, Mazria's small book is the most concrete, understandable and organized. I designed my home using the book and the forecasted energy compsumption matched the calculations!
Excellent reference!.......1998-12-04
When I designed our first house this book was invaluable. We are now designing our second home and looked to see if there is an update. Unfortunately it has not been revised but then little has changed with the sun and mass and the book will once again be a valued resource.
absolutely indispensable!.......1998-06-08
A seminal reference on the fundamentals of solar design. Easily used, yet thorough and quantitative. Should be required reading for everyone in the architecture & building design fields. Sunfall info given here is relevant to every structure ever designed -- and if you actually use it, the info *will* improve your design!!

Superficial treatment.......1997-04-18
This book provides a few of the basics that you will need to know if you are contemplating a small remodeling project.
If you are planning on contracting your own house, this volume will not help you much. It provides only very superficial coverage of the information needed to intelligently communicate your requirements to subcontractors and evaluate their responses.

Book Description
American feminism has always been about more than the struggle for individual rights and equal treatment with men. There's also a vital and continuing tradition of women's reform that sought social as well as individual rights and argued for the dismantling of the masculine standard. In this much anticipated book, Dorothy Sue Cobble retrieves the forgotten feminism of the previous generations of working women, illuminating the ideas that inspired them and the reforms they secured from employers and the state. This socially and ethnically diverse movement for change emerged first from union halls and factory floors and spread to the "pink collar" domain of telephone operators, secretaries, and airline hostesses. From the 1930s to the 1980s, these women pursued answers to problems that are increasingly pressing today: how to balance work and family and how to address the growing economic inequalities that confront us. The Other Women's Movement traces their impact from the 1940s into the feminist movement of the present.
The labor reformers whose stories are told in The Other Women's Movement wanted equality and "special benefits," and they did not see the two as incompatible. They argued that gender differences must be accommodated and that "equality" could not always be achieved by applying an identical standard of treatment to men and women. The reform agenda they championed--an end to unfair sex discrimination, just compensation for their waged labor, and the right to care for their families and communities--launched a revolution in employment practices that carries on today.
Unique in its range and perspective, this is the first book to link the continuous tradition of social feminism to the leadership of labor women within that movement.
