Magic Tree House series.......2007-10-19
The look of pure rapture and intensity on my 6 year old son's face listening to these stories for the first (and 20th) time is priceless. M.P. Osborne has created a way to learn all about various times in history in such a captivatingly fun way. We all love to listen to the stories when they are read! My son now reads 2 Magic Tree House books a week! We are very glad M.P. Osborne has continued putting her creative writing into these series!
I have not yet received this product.......2007-09-23
I was accidently sent another book in my mailing package. I sent that one back with a note that it was the wrong product. i have not yet received the Magic Tree House book set.
My daughter loves these books.......2007-08-09
My daugther just could not put down these books after she had received them. She finished 12 books in less than a week! I am going to get the rest of this series for her soon.
Great for 1st-3rd Graders.......2007-07-28
While the writing isn't great, the stories are certainly entertaining, and are great reading for 1st-3rd Graders. The stories follow two siblings, Jack and Annie, who are magically transported to various places, and the various settings set the stage for some very fascinating, to the young reader, tales they will come to treasure.
my son loves these books!.......2007-07-07
I've been reading to my son since he was two weeks old. He just had his fourth birthday, and I gave him this Magic Tree House box set. I thought he'd get bored pretty quick since there aren't illustrations on every page, but I was wrong. We read the first book in an afternoon, and he wanted to move straight on to the next one. We've since finished the first four and I've ordered the next box set, and while we wait we're re-reading the first four. Fantastic books!

Magic Tree House Box Set.......2007-10-09
What can I say about Magic Tree House Books? Wow! My eight year old son has been reading them for quite a while now. Our public library does a great job at keeping a variety but doesn't always have the one that he's just dying to read today. I hope that by giving him at least a few of his own favorites that are in this set to keep on hand at home will satisfy his very large reading appetite.
Great Books for a young boy to read.......2007-10-07
It takes a lot for me to get my son to read anything. But with these books he read them with euthusiam and read each one within a week.Magic Tree House Boxed Set 2, Books 5-8: Night of the Ninjas, Afternoon on the Amazon, Sunset of the Sabertooth, and Midnight on the Moon
Great books for little boys................2007-05-13
We read one or two chapters a night to my 5 1/2 yr. old son everynight. He loves all the topics that the books cover....dinosaurs, pirates, ninjas, etc. Great for any little boy!
Great Books.......2007-05-12
My 5 year old son loves the books. They are short enough to keep his attention, but long enough to challenge his imagination.
Great Gift.......2007-05-12
I bought these for my 6 year old grandson for his birthday. He was excited to get them, but they were laid aside for the even more exciting toys that he received. However, as the toys got boring, these books became more entertaining. Currently he is immensely enjoying reading them. They are excellent beginning readers.

Book Description
ECOSOCIALISM OR BARBARISM Ecosocialism or Barbarism explains that the twenty-first century has opened on a catastrophic note, with an unprecedented degree of ecological breakdown and a chaotic world order beset with terror and warfare. In this book, socialists Jane Kelly and Sheila Malone have gathered together articles from some of the world's leading ecologists and Marxists to discuss how the profoundly interrelated crises of ecology and social breakdown should be seen as different manifestations of the same structural forces. Jack Kovel and Michel Löwy's ecosocialist manifesto sets the framework for a discussion which is unfolding around the world. They argue that capitalism cannot regulate, much less overcome, the crises it has set going. It cannot solve the ecological crisis because to do so requires setting limits upon accumulation-an unacceptable option for a system predicated upon the rule: Grow or Die! And it cannot solve the crisis posed by terror and other forms of violent rebellion because this would mean abandoning the logic of empire, imposing unacceptable limits on growth and the "way of life" sustained by empire. In this unique volume, ecologists and socialists discuss how far the capitalist world system is historically bankrupt. Their common conclusion is that it has become an empire unable to adapt, whose very gigantism exposes its underlying weakness. It is profoundly unsustainable and must be replaced. The stark choice posed by Rosa Luxemburg returns: Socialism or Barbarism!
Book Description
István Meszáros's bold new study analyzes the historical choices facing us at the outset of the new millennium. Drawing on the theoretical arguments of his monumental and widely-acclaimed work,
Beyond Capital, Mészáros shows that the economic boom of the 1990s was built not only on the foundation of new, digital technologies but also on a new social and ethical basis. In the global quest for profit, capitalism has abandoned its claims to serve a larger historical cause. Even in the wealthiest capitalist economies, unemployment has become structural and conditions of life have become more onerous for most of the population.
The failure of capitalism's historical mission is most evident in the end of the project of "Third World modernization" so essential to the claims of U.S. global power to represent an advance on old-style imperialism. Mészaros develops an illuminating analysis of the roots and tensions of the politics of U.S. global power from the time of Roosevelt's "Open Door" policy to the present. Against this historical background, he examines the dilemmas which will be faced in the making of U.S. foreign policy towards China
the largest and most rapidly-expanding national market in the global economy and the newly-emerging rival to U.S. global dominance. Mészáros shows how this process is rooted in the historical logic of contemporary capitalism, and is neither accidental nor temporary. In the process, he gives new meaning and urgency to the alternatives posed by Rosa Luxemburg at the beginning of the 20th century: socialism or barbarism.
Mészáros also explores the conditions for the emergence of a radical alternative to capitalism, arguing that a critical re-examination of earlier movements and struggles is an essential task for the emergence of such an alternative. As a sequel to his essay, an extended interview deals with more reflectively with the main categories underlying his analysis and relates it to developments within the broader analysis of modern society.
Customer Reviews:
For students of philosophy and political science.......2002-10-12
Istvan Meszaros is one of the foremost Marxist intellectuals writing and working today. Professor emeritus at the University of Sussex (where he held the chair of Philosophy for fifteen years) his has created an impressive body of erudite scholarship ranging from Marx's Theory Of Alienation and The Work Of Sartre: Search For Freedom to The Power Of Ideology and Beyond Capital. In Socialism Or Barbarism Meszaros analyses the historical choices facing us at the outset of the new millennium. Drawing on the theoretical arguments of his early work, Beyond Capital, Meszaros gives new meaning and urgency to the alternatives posed by Rosa Luxemburg at the beginning of the century. Meszaros also provides a detailed analysis of the roots and development of American global power -- a supremacy that came at the cost of exhausting the universalizing pretensions of capitalism. Meszaros argues persuasively that Capitalism today is potentially more destructive of humankind and the environment than ever before. Socialism Or Barbarism is highly recommended reading for students of philosophy and political science.

Book Description
No amount of patient scholarly probing of Hitlerism can render this grim piece of political pathology intelligible without empathic insight into the deeper workings of mass psychology. Gonen brings just such insight to this task and will leave reader after reader with the sense of a mystery solved.Rudoph Binion, author of Hitler among the Germans
By combining scholarly excellence with a reading style that makes it accessible to the lay public, Gonen has written what could become a bestseller.Lloyd deMause
In a provocative work, Jay Gonen argues that Adolf Hitler reflected the psyche of many Germans of his time. He describes Hitler as similar to any charismatic leader, an expert scanner of the Zeitgeist who had an uncanny ability to read the masses correctly and guide them with new ideas that were in truth borrowed from the masses themselves.
By focusing on the role of ideologies in group psychology, Gonen illustrates the ways in which Hitler's notions were interwoven with the general fabric of German culture in the years following World War I. He sheds light on the underlying dynamics of the German response to the humiliation and defeat of World War I in order to tease out the psychological underpinnings of Nazi Germany's desire to expand its living space and exterminate Jews.
Customer Reviews:
Another great contribution in the fight against Nazism.......2006-10-05
Jay Y. Gonen, retired professor of psychology, has written the book The Roots of Nazi Psychology in order to try to answer the question whether or not Adolf Hitler, the personification of 20th century evil, was mentally ill or simply a man of the people. The answer, which emerges after a little more than 200 pages of heavy academic psycho-analysis, is long and complex and not that easy to interpret.
It's a fascinating book, even though it at times feels almost too heavy, with its super academic formulations and complicated use of the English language. Gonen shows how Hitler was a master of manipulations and interpreter of the desires of the people, skills that enable him to provide "new" ideas that were in actuality reflections of the great majority already believed in. The treaty in Versailles after World War I and the harsh conditions therein (combined with the fact that German politicians to the bitter end had continued lying to the people assuring them that victory was at hand), created a perfect breeding ground for Hitler and followers. Thus it's not entirely incorrect claiming that the "second" Thirty Years' War started when World War I started, not ending until the end of World War II.
One always causes controversy when saying that "sure, I admire Hitler", even though that has nothing to do with believing Nazi ideology to be a good and correct thing. In other words, of course it's possible to admire Hitler and his accomplishments while at the same time rejecting everything that the Nazis stand for. Because we can all agree upon the fact that he did something that few politicians are capable of; in no time at all turning a country in ruins into a superpower with millions and millions of fanatical inhabitants. His explanations as to why the Jews were the root of all evil made sense from the point of view that the people indeed believed him, and the multitude of ways the Nazi ideology permeated every aspect of German society is as fascinating as it is frightening.
If you want to learn more about how the Nazi era came into existence and how it became so large and influential, then Gonen's book is great tool. The war in itself isn't discussed very much, and he doesn't really bother discussing what's right and wrong, even though it's obvious that he's not a Nazi in any way. It's the ideology that's in focus here, along with how Hitler managed to create all those unlikely things that he nonetheless succeeded in. But it's also a useful book regarding the psychology of the majority of the people and large groups of people - how easy it is for a charismatic personality to persuade an unbelievably large number of people, despite the fact that for an outsider the whole thing remains utterly incomprehensible.
Rarely has the power of a strong leader (Hitler), combined with the power of the masses (the German Volk), had such devastating impact on the world. And with the continuous production of books such as The Roots of Nazi Psychology will mankind be armed with a very effective to for preventing something similar from ever happening again.
