Customer Reviews:
VERY DISAPOINTED!.......2001-05-15
Maybe my expectations were too high. The fact is that this book offers you very little unless you really have no clue about how electricity works. The book is also poorly organized. I really couldn't figure out a logical sequence. The book also seems to be very dated. There is virtually no mention of electronic security panels and common programming tasks. In my opinion, it's a book to avoid.

Customer Reviews:
The classic volume for Technicians and Hobbyists.......2004-06-19
This book, which was commonly used as a textbook in technician-level electronics programs and introductory engineering courses, is perhaps the best volume I have seen in explaining the basics of amplitude and frequency modulation and demodulation, basic receiver design, and the concomitant basics of audio amplification and reproduction. It is not an all-around electronics text and you should understand basic AC and DC electricity theory and use of basic test equipment before using it, but it effectively teaches superheterodyne theory and alignment and demodulation, covering both vacuum tubes and semiconductors. All radio hobbyists and audiophiles should own a copy, but I would eschew the facsimile in preference to an actual printed edition.

Compact Disc Player Maintenance and Repair
ASIN: 0750609346 |
Book Description
Written specifically with service technicians and engineers in mind, this book is designed as a bench-side companion and guide to the principles involved in repairing and adjusting CD players. Engineers will find this a helpful companion to the various service manuals. The text takes a problem solving approach with numerous examples, circuit diagrams and line drawings.
Engineers who need to achieve a better understanding of CD technology will find this book an essential tool for fault diagnosis, adjustment and repair. This book not only covers the mechanical design but also the integrated circuits within a CD player. It is written for immediate application and is well illustrated, so it should become a welcome addition to the rack of tools available to the service engineer. Ken Clements has extensive experience of the service industry both as a service manager and later in technical training with Sony and Pioneer. It is his hands-on knowledge that makes the book so valuable, not only as a wide-ranging reference but also as a benchtop manual to be kept within reach at all times when working with CD players.

Review by an electronics instructor.......1999-10-20
This book is an excellent textbook for a college-level TV servicing and repair course. All chapters end with quiz questions. Covers all circuits of a TV in very great depth, including the tuner, IF, sound, sync, luminance, chroma, horizontal, vertical, and power supplies, with many schematic diagrams. Also covers servicing fundamentals, and some information on tube circuits.

Customer Reviews:
Time has made this obsolete. . ........2001-10-01
. . . so why am I rating it 5 stars, you may ask. Oh, that's the easy part--my grandfather wrote it. Not to say I won't give it an honest review, so here goes:
This book was helpful twenty-years ago. The writing style is appropriately technical yet easy-to-read. The illustrations (done by my grandmother) are helpful and could have been put together by a modern-day tech writer. All that said, technology advances sped ahead, and because of that, this book is good only as an electronics primer or an example of what USED to be. Five stars because it fulfilled it's purpose perfectly when it was published. It was never meant to stand the test of time.
Oh, and lets not overlook the other reason for the five stars: nepotism. At least I'm honest.
