A simple and easy to follow "how to" for financial security.......2000-04-04
Most books on financial planning talk about what the consumer should do, with a lot of theories about how to manage money. The consumer still does not know where to start or what to do next. This book goes beyond theory and provides a road map, with checklists and easy to use forms. The organization of the book allows the buyer to use any section independently to solve a financial problem or to use the whole book to put a game plan in place. It is this versatility that makes it a great resource for the financially confused.
This is also a book written by practicing financial planners, and it shows. The authors used their experience with clients to answer the most commonly asked questions and to provide clear and easy to follow solutions. All in all, this is a book for anyone trying to make sense of the many financial decisions that we all face today.

Book Description
Let's Talk Patents is patent primer. It explains in short order what small business owners, inventors, and entrepreneurs need to know to protect their ideas and leverage them in this information age. Not another "how-to" book, Let's Talk Patents explains in easy-to-read format such issues as who owns the patent rights, patent infringement and enforcement, and how not to compromise your patent rights. The book also includes a table of the costs involved (including attorneys fees), illustrated examples of patent infringement, and a comparison of patents to trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. This book is targeted for businesspeople, written by a registered patent attorney experienced with the trails and tribulations of small businesses. It is clearly and simply written, avoiding legalese and extraneous information typical of books about patents.
Customer Reviews:
With "Let's Talk Patents" you'll be armed and ready.......2003-05-23
Why? Because ignorance of patent law [ignorance: not having knowledge of a certain thing] may lead to unintended forfeiture of patent rights, or worse, being scammed out of money the inventor cannot afford.
Anyone who might be put off by the word "primer" must consider -- where do you get your knowledge of patents now? In High School or College? Not likely. Only a couple conventional colleges in the U.S. even have courses on inventing and patenting. So how does one learn about this vital subject? From TV ads? Advice from a brother-in-law? Some business article or column you read years ago? Unfortunately, the answer is too often, yes. That's a pretty meager education on a subject that may change one's life... Now perhaps a "patent primer" is starting to make more sense? Especially if you would rather not appear too stupid when you do reach that point where you need to talk to a patent attorney.
Let's assume you are a fairly typical problem solver, manager, or free thinker, and maybe even a grasp of the concept of invention -- patent -- money. Most everyone does. But if words or phrases like "intellectual property rights", "prior art", "doctrine of equivalents", "disclosure", or "infringement" are not a part of your vocabulary, you can offer a big Thank You to Ms. Etherton for writing and publishing "Let's Talk Patents." She is a registered patent attorney, but because she avoided writing it in "lawyer-ease," your ignorance is about to dissipate.
Upon opening her book and looking at the list of contents, "WOW" would be an automatic response. You may not have ever pondered questions about "Statutory Invention Registration" or "Direct and Indirect Infringement" but now, all of a sudden, you realize you are holding in your hands not just a book about patent education, but a real reference jewel. "Let's Talk Patents" suddenly becomes a valuable resource for information -- for you!
Before even finishing the first chapter, there's another revelation: "Let's Talk Patents" could easily have created a high intimidation response by being another compendium of dry, factual pages. But oh no, it's not... In fact, Ms. Etheron's style is so direct --so clear -- that her teaching examples make it very easy for us to relate to things we already know. Who could not relate to: "walking into a dark alley unarmed" and "red flat" or "...it's usually the money, who has it and who gets it."
Her straight talk, easy language and understandable examples, such as the problems of two competing bicycle manufactures, pull the reader along so smoothly they may not be aware of how much they're learning. That's talent.
After Etherton's book, when someone says "Let's Talk Patents" you will be armed and ready.

It's impossible to think of the modern conservative movement without the deep influence of William F. Buckley Jr., founder of National Review and host of the television series Firing Line. Yet Buckley's evangelizing didn't just occur on the printed page or go out on the airwaves; he gave countless numbers of speeches during the second half of the 20th century. Several dozen of the most significant are collected in Let Us Talk of Many Things, from a 1950 address at Yale University hinting at themes that would be developed fully in God and Man at Yale to a 1999 talk to the Heritage Foundation (on the meaning of heritage, appropriately enough). In between, there are comments on Joseph McCarthy, Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, the failure of the drug war--and on and on and on.In its way, the book provides a history of American conservative politics, as well as a witty primer on what those politics are all about. One example: "Politics, it has been said, is the preoccupation of the quarter-educated, and I do most solidly endorse that observation, and therefore curse this century above all things for its having given all sentient beings very little alternative than to occupy themselves with politics. It is very well to say we will ignore the Great Society. But will the Great Society repay us our courtesy by ignoring us?" In another speech, delivered shortly after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and at a time when many Americans turned stoutly pessimistic about their own country, Buckley turned matters on their head: "That is the salient datum in America: not that we bred the aberrant assassins of John Kennedy and Martin Luther King, but that we bred the widely shared and the most intensely felt sense of grief: such grief over the loss of Mr. Kennedy and Mr. King as is felt over the loss of one's own sons." The statement is vintage Buckley: the old-fashioned use of the word datum, two colons in a single sentence, and a comforting faith in the United States. There's also an insightful and hilarious essay, which first appeared in The New Yorker, describing a life on the lecture circuit, complete with tips on how to make sure undergraduates driving you to the airport the next morning arrive at your hotel on time. This is a simply wonderful book by one of America's premier public intellectuals. --John J. Miller
Book Description
William F. Buckley Jr. has long been admired for his remarkable gifts as a writer, debater, and orator. The man who helped ignite the modern conservative movement has for the past fifty years played a significant role in the great social debates that have shaped our country and indeed the world. In the course of his long career, he has given hundreds of speeches to generations of listeners.Customer Reviews:

The Man Who Saved Classical Liberalism.......2002-04-10
This is a collection of speeches that Buckley gave over the course of a 40-year career. Because they were meant to be heard instead of read, they are more informal and less intimidating than some of his other work. One can find here a rich slice of recent American history from the perspective of one of the good guys.

If you want a great job, get this book!.......2003-02-11
I am a recent university graduate and I got a hold of this book through a friend. It helped me in so many different ways. The book is an easy read, it is well organized and gets straight to the point on the different steps one should take in the job hunt. This book was a valuable tool for me and I think for anyone who is determined to find that dream job.
The beginning of the book describes many of the emotions one might face if just entering the job market or if one has been laid off for whatever reason. As a recent graduate, I felt that noone was going to hire me and that I would not find anything. This book helped me understand that the most difficult obstacle to overcome before being successful and finding that dream job are your emotions. I got past my self-doubt and began working harder at my job-search.
The next step is how to turn your resume and cover letter into a winner that will get the attention of anyone willing to look at it. The book helps by providing what to do and not to do. Examples are provided. I took the authors' advice and my resume looked more professional and polished.
Once I received a phone call asking for an interview, I turned to the book to find a chapter on various interview methods. I took the advice and aced the first interview. Without taking the advice provided by this book I would not have felt as confident as I did. I was fully prepared and ready for all types of questions.
What I want to say is that this book gets to the point, moves you through step-by-step and helps in preparing you for what to expect with the job-hunt. What you find won't fall into your lap, you have to work hard to get it. What this book did give me was the confidence that I needed to get through the process. Now I am working full-time and I credit the book to my success.
