Customer Reviews:
Another great book for anyone in a team environment!.......2007-08-09
I read this book and it opened my eyes! I was doing a lot of things wrong that I thought were correct. This book told me what type of
communicator I am. Being an IT Professional, it's hard to communicate to the average employee or manager(as anyone in IT knows it's always difficult), but with this book, I've been able to relearn the fine art of communication all over again. I picked up some valuable pointers, and it's helped me "reframe" my outlook on situations. I recommend it to anyone...not just managers.
Clear Consice and Effective.......2004-04-26
This is an excellent book. The author stresses the difference in communication styles and the communicatiuon partnership between the sender and reciever. The information on "Making the most of meetings" and "successful presentations" was exceptional. A very good book for anyone who wants to increase their own communication skills, as well as those who teach communication to other.
Garbage.......2002-11-05
This book did not help me at all.....If anything, it should the handbook of how NOT to communicate in business. Just a bunch of hash and rehash I'm sure the author found somewhere else. Save your money and buy something more useful.
Communicating effectively with examples.......2002-02-24
When I first start reading the book I was about to stop reading since it seemed too simple. But I kept reading and see that there are techniques and well chosen examples of how to communicate with your peers and boss. The communication profiles section is a must read. After this section you'll see you can't stop reading the whole...
Have a Sensitive, Effective Boss/Mentor at Your Side.......2001-03-22
In a world that prides itself on "efficiency," Lani's personable, professional treatment of over-all communication is truly EFFECTIVE. My copy of this handy handbook is filled with different colored highlighting, scribbling in the margins, and dog ears. The format is delightful for one who reads many books; the style makes one feel as if the author, Lani Arredondo, is right beside you, encouraging, smiling, touching--always teaching more fine-tuned ways of communicating.
This easy-read is a priceless blend of head and heart, mindset and skills. The play on "p's" makes for easy Practice! The part our perceptions play in our interactions sets the stage. Perceptions, personality profiles and pausing were keys for me. Lani leads the reader by conversational tone to understand how differences can be pluses when managed with understanding and skill. We are reminded to pause when confronted with less than positive folks.
Another strong point in this age of speed is the crisp format and the relevant tips for being brief. And bold. Lani confronts in a warm style the general fear of facing issues--glossing over, backing down, etc. She gives workable ways to help individuals and teams talk through to real solutions. The lively lessons on giving instructions and feedback are helpful for those who hesitate or barge in inappropriately.
"Communicating Effectively" builds logically from laying a foundation of understanding to getting the courage to be real and right on! When every job ad calls for "excellent communication" and "getting along with people," this book should be next to everybody's laptop--and bedside. It's next to mine and I'm still highlighting!
Book Description
Imagine going through your life receiving absolutely no input from colleagues or supervisors, friends or family. No inclusion in decisions, no praise or constructive criticism for the things you do -- in fact, no acknowledgment that you even exist at all. We all take feedback for granted, but it is a reference point without which we become incapable of functioning fully and productively.Tell Me How I'm Doing presents a fable that illustrates what can happen when feedback is denied, and then offers step-by-step guidance for making feedback an integral part of all working and personal relationships. Readers will learn the four distinct types of feedback -- supportive, corrective, abusive, and insignificant -- and how and when to use the first two while avoiding the others.People in all walks of life and all professions rely on human interaction as a touchpoint for self-definition and self-improvement. When we interact fully and constructively with our peers, we help create a positive, productive, and sustainable culture that serves everyone well

People Want to Know How They are Doing.......2006-01-18
This is a business novel or fable which tells you two things up front:
1. The book will be a quick read (I read it in a little over an hour).
2. The book will be an easy read.
For some people that is recommendation enough if the topic is one of interest to them!
I admit that I like the genre because I read so little fiction that it feels like a pleasant change to read prose in more of a story form. While this book has a story, the story itself isn't as compelling as some others like it have been.
But the content is outstanding.
I have taught people and teams about feedback. I have worked hard to get better at it myself. I have read and recommended other books on the topic, but now, my understanding is deeper and broader than it was before. This book has me thinking about very specific situations where I can do a significantly better job giving feedback, and it has given me the desire to make those changes.
If you are a leader, supervisor, teacher, trainer or parent you should read this book. The concepts described aren't rocket science but they are described and explained in a way that you will find very valuable.

Book Description
The prospect of public speaking is daunting and often frightening for many people. Despite this, most students and professionals must make public presentations in one capacity or another over the course of their careers. What makes dealing with their fear difficult is that most have never been taught how to give a professional presentation. The purpose of this book is to provide some guidance in the "how to's" of giving professional presentations in the behavioral sciences and related professions.
The book is written specifically for students and professionals who have little or no experience giving presentations and for those who are particularly anxious about public speaking. It gives concrete advice about designing, delivering, and defending presentations. This advice includes recognizing the appropriate goals of the presentation, using the appropriate fonts, projecting one's voice, and dealing with stage fright. Also included is a chapter on giving persuasive presentations, drawing on recent socialpsychological research on social influence and persuasion.

Customer Reviews:
Will improve your ability and confidence in not only public speaking but in any social interaction........2007-10-02
In my quest to become an a first rate facilitator, negotiator and conversationalist, I read The Exceptional Presenter. I found it insightful, applicable and continue to put lessons I learned to practice.
Among the many lessons I learned, three that stood out to me personally were;
1. Kicking off presentations by telling the audience about themselves.
2. Moving towards and away from the audience as you make a specific point.
3. Talking to the audience before the presentation to get a 'pulse' for what they're thinking.
The Exceptional Presenter changed the way I approach and perceive presentations and talking in public. For my improvement in ability and confidence I cant thank the author enough.
The Exceptional Presenter.......2007-10-01
Anyone who speaks must have The Exceptional Presenter. It will assist even the most confident person in projecting more presence.

FROM A SEASONED EXECUTIVE COACH.......2007-09-05
I am an executive coach and HR consultant who has trained thousands of professionals over the past 25 years. My focus is on helping individuals become 'Strategic Partners' in whatever arena they serve. I have worked with international public accounting partners and partner candidates, bank executives, insurance vice presidents of sales, attorneys, small business owners, entrepreneurs, and MBA students from some of America's top business schools. We explore '12 Success Core Competencies' that, if exercised appropriately, ultimately lead individuals to the top of their respective professions. Of the '12 Success Core Competencies,' none is more critical than effective 'Oral Presentation Manner & Style.'
Because of the impact oral presentation effectiveness has on the credibility of an individual I have read almost all printed material on the subject. NONE address oral presentation effectiveness as well as Tim Koegel's The Exceptional Presenter.
His concept, and the way he presents it, is so concise and substantive I have invited him to personally address groups of executives I coach. If you like his book...you will love his presentation style and message. He entertains and enlightens audiences simultaneously.
Tim Koegel is the master of this subject. Read his The Exceptional Presenter...and keep it close by as a 'ready reference.' No skill will ever serve you better.
Mandatory reading!.......2007-09-04
This book is mandatory reading for every professional in our company. My business is incredibly competitive - lots at stake. Everyone, from our seniormost rainmaker to our newest Associate has benefited. I have read this book twice, and contemplate Koegel's suggestions before every presentation I make. This book makes one a better presenter both by instructing what is effective, but also by pointing out things that can negatively impact a presention or communication of a message. I can't imagine a better book of presentation "do's and don'ts"!!
Top Notch Advice.......2007-09-04
Tim Koegel's "The Exceptional Presenter" gives a lot of useful advice. Perhaps the most important is this: We are all presenters--in meetings, when leaving voice mails, talking to the boss, etc.
This is a proven way to improve communication skills. This books has been spotlighted in The Washington Times, The Baltimore Sun, US News & World Report and many other publications.

Lively lessons on public speaking.......2006-08-08
To deliver a memorable speech you need a combination of the right words and a great performance. Both are crucial, but performance often makes the difference between a mediocre presentation and an exceptional one. Author Tony Carlson has written a useful book on how to prepare and deliver a speech to achieve maximum impact on your audience. He covers all the details, from manuscript preparation to rehearsal techniques to post-speech follow-up. He writes in a witty, flowing style, and he includes invaluable anecdotes, useful checklists and a section on dealing with speechwriters. While "wowing" today's skeptical audiences is no easy task, Carlson's tips will help you get listeners on your side. We recommend this book to professionals who want to sharpen their speaking skills, speechwriters and anyone involved in corporate communication.
Unconventional Helper for Memorable Speeches.......2005-08-25
As a regular trade speaker, I found Tony's book to be a powerful helper in the crafting and delivery of speeches that will create lasting impressions. Breaking the boundaries of PowerPoint-constrained presentations, The How of Wow will help apprentice speakers as well as seasoned orators to better connect with their audience. People crave for stories they can relate to, and Tony's experience will help most speakers deliver them in the most engaging ways.
Light, valuable reading for corporate speechmakers.......2005-07-23
As an active professional speaker, I have far too many opportunities to witness well-meaning corporate executives damage their reputations by delivering speeches that are lame and embarrassing, using presentation styles that are as inappropriate as their talking about the topic to begin with. As I shake my head in wonder, I contemplate whether any of these people ever read a book on what speech-making is all about.
If they were to search for such a book, The How of Wow would certainly meet their needs. The author has written speeches, delivered speeches, critiqued speeches, and enjoyed the journey of coaching executives how to present their ideas-and their ideals-in public.
This book is not quite what you might expect it to be. It is not a rah-rah volume, nor it is a step-by-step handbook for writing and delivering a speech. Rather, Carlson's book is a lighthearted look at one of the biggest fears harbored by men and women in today's business world.
In an unusual approach for a book on this topic, Carlson begins by asking why the reader should even care about giving a blow `em away speech. Then, part two challenges whether you should even accept the invitation. Not all opportunities are right, so be careful. In the third section of the book, Carlson digs into how to think about what you will say...and why. Preparation gives you strength, as in part four you settle into the writing phase. Craft the story, make the connection, Carlson advises repeatedly. Then, to demonstrate, he does exactly that in these pages. You'll learn more about hooks to connect with your audience than you ever thought existed.
The writing section explores ways to build simplicity-much more effective in speechmaking than complexity. You'll learn about language, quotations, and words and phrases that detract from, rather than contribute to, the positive influence of the speech.
The last section of the book takes us into the actual presentation, with a follow-up emphasis on going beyond merely the basic strength of the speech itself. The supplemental questions at the end of the chapters is exceeded only by appendices that take you deeper into the knowledge base of speech-writing.
Well-directed toward executives; value for professional speakers, as well.

An easy, smart guide to giving a successful presentation
Book Description
A showcase collection of 178 outstanding resume samples with a bonus section that includes 16 sample resumes printed on special papers. Plus, the book includes a whole chapter of best-resume tips from David Noble, one of the most well-known names in the resume business.
Customer Reviews:
HIghly Recommended.......2007-05-19
I found this to be an excellent source of various types of resumes to use for various careers. If you are wanting ideas on how to write your resume...this is a great investment. A great reference tool and up to date !!
Not a how-to book.......2007-04-03
Not exactly a how-to book for the novice. If you have decent writing skills and a pretty good idea what you are doing already, then this is an excellent resource for ideas and templates. I would highly recommend it for someone like me, a long-time front line employee that has moved into management and seriosly needed to upgrade his resume. For those type of people it is definitely 5 stars.
Get the Third Edition.......2004-02-11
This is a fantastic book, but don't lose your money buying the 2nd edition when the 3rd edition is out there (somewhere)!
Noble's Gallery Is Noble!.......2003-09-25
David Noble's second edition (I look forward to his third edition) is comprehensive indeed with over 400 pages of sample resumes and cover letters, encompassing a broad spectrum of occupations. Footnote comments are especially helpful to job-seekers who wish to develop their own documents, and the ample gallery of sample works offers even seasoned resume writers fresh ideas in creating form diversity and distinctiveness when considering a client's unique values, personality, and accomplishments in the developmental process.
"Before" and "after" resume comments are helpful and reveal flaws that may not be readily apparent to the novice, and even subtle errors could sink the candidate when found before a seasoned recruiter's eyes.
While most samples are combination style formats, perhaps a few more samples of chronological and functional styles would be helpful to those whose backgrounds fit these categories.
Noble's "Gallery of Best Resumes" is excellent, and I recommend that serious resume writers keep a current desk copy available for ready reference, and be sure to order a copy for your resource library.

Customer Reviews:
Solid, good information.......2000-07-16
As a Certified Professional Resume Writer, I am always keen to keep abreast of new trends in the job-search industry. David F. Noble's Gallery of Best Resumes for People Without a Four-Year Degree is an excellent resource for both professionals like myself and the serious job hunter who needs direction on how to handle the specialized requirements of people who chose training that took less than four years to complete.
These people encompass a vast range of occupations from healthcare, paralegals, military, sales & marketing - and a host of others.
The book is well laid out and provides extensive, easy to read information for the person embarking upon the difficult task of putting pen to paper. It touches upon writing tips, job search strategies, grammar, spelling, design and layouts. "The Gallery" ventures into Part 2 of the book. Resume samples produced for "real life" people by leading professional resume writers, are grouped in categories. At the end of each resume, notes regarding style, margins, font use and reasons behind the layout and wording selection are provided.
While you won't find 50 examples of your particular job discipline, you will find a range of styles, approaches and formats that will appeal to you, and that you'll be easily able to adapt to your own particular situation. Looking at the examples (over 200) you should be able to learn the art of communicating your strengths in a variety of ways.
Cover letters, a vital part of a application process have not been forgotten. Towards the conclusion, the author provides excellent assistance in helping you produce a cover letter that speaks volumes of your ambition and strengths. 30 samples are included from cold approaches, networking and responses to newspaper advertisements - once again, allowing you to choose the type of approach that fits your situation comfortably.
The Contents page is a vast improvement over the previous offering "Gallery of Best Resumes", now ensuring quick and easy location of the samples needed.
All in all, a solid informational resource mirroring up to the minute trends, that I can highly recommend. A must for the job seeker's bookshelf.
