    Book Description

My intention is to create a book on the organizational and psychological ramifications of transforming traditional hierarchical organizations into flatter, team-based structures.

This is not a new theme, in fact, much has been written on the subject by several authors. What differentiates this work from that of previous publications is that is written from the perspective of someone that has been "in the trenches" as both an operational CEO and a Business Consultant.

Previous attempts at "how to" books on this subject have dealt largely with the structural/organizational aspects of this transformation and have not effectively addressed the human behavioral component.

In fact, in a recent edition of the Wall Street Journal, an interview was conducted with the authors of Re-engineering the Corporation, Michael Hammer and James Champy in which The Journal stated "But the book, for all of its theoretical elegance, glossed over the massive career disruptions caused by the process. Re-engineering work usually required fewer workers and far fewer managers. Managers resisted, stymieing many re-engineering efforts."

Both Hammer and Champy have agreed that they missed the significant component --- the people. This is the exact area that my book will address.

5 out of 5 stars Should be required reading for Undergrad Business.......2006-07-18

Definitely worth reading, even if not required for a class. A very accessible introduction to the field of Risk Management along with useful, practical information about the kinds of insurance contracts that will be encountered by consumers and businesses alike.

This, and introductory business law should be taught to all undergraduate b-school students. A great book, much better and more useful than a certain black-and-yellow book about insurance that you might be tempted to order.

      Book Description

Revisions and additions make the second edition an even better teaching and learning tool of the basic principles of insurance and risk with their special application to the aviation industry. A foundation of general knowledge is provided in a subject matter that plays a significant role in any aviation-related business. A number of the chapters have been completely updated to reflect the many industry, market, and legislative changes during the 1900s. The chapter on hull and liability contracts includes "Insurance Considerations for Business Aircraft Owners." This new section covers insurance requirements for companies operating aircraft under various arrangements including joint ownership, interchange agreement, time-sharing agreement, exclusive dry lease, management company, and fractional ownership. Appendixes include current aviation policies, endorsements, and applications as well as self-tests. College students, corporate pilots or fixed base operators, and individuals in the insurance business will gain a broad understanding of insurance and risk management applicable to the aviation enterprise.

4 out of 5 stars Alexander Wells is Without Peer in his Knowledge.......2004-01-27

Anyone who has read any of Alexander Well's texts on the aviation industry knows that he is without peer in his knowledge of the management and operations of the airline industry. He teaches what I believe is still the only course on airline management at any college in the nation and is highly respected for his work.

In this volume, he focuses specifically on the problems of risk and insurance as it applies to the airline industry. Although the book is relatively new, published in 2000, given the events in the industry in the past few years it may already be ripe for a revision. Regardless, the text provides a broad, yet concise, understanding of insurance and risk management as it applies to the aviation industry, both commerical and otherwise.

This book should be required reading for anyone considering a career in aviation management or working in the insurance industry with airlines.

This textbook is an excellent resource for those students interested in developing a knowledge base in aviation insurance and risk management. The text descibes the various policies available for pilots, and aviation related companies. It also outlines the many types of risk management techniques used to ensure company solvency. The authors have made a very large and complicated subject into something more understandable.

Exploring the psychology, philosophy, and professionalism of the modern close personal protection agent, the author discusses the successes, failures, improvements, and adaptations of veterans in the field. He gives practical, common sense advice for the day-to-day habits of the professional as well as instructing in the necessary interpersonal skills that are crucial to the job.

            Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent book on executive protection.......2007-07-16

As the leading civilian authority on the U.S. Secret Service, I highly recommend this book from distinguished former agent Dale June. It is well written and very informative. Simply put, you cannot go wrong in purchasing this volume. I was a little disappointed with the 11/22/63 "whitewash", but that was to be expected, quite frankly (what is Mr. June going to say : "My colleagues screwed up in Dallas?"). Get this!

5 out of 5 stars A must read for protection specialists.......2006-10-20

This book is the quintessential guide for the executive and personal protection professional. Newcomers to the field as well as veterans will find the book very readable and thorough in its coverage of all aspects of executive and personal protection. While providing a solid overview of the basics of the profession, the book also covers some advanced topics such as motorcade tactics, advances, and working the principal in different scenarios. The only drawback to this text is that it is over-priced. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it for anyone considering entering the field of personal protection or already working in it.

            5 out of 5 stars Excellent Reading.......2005-11-08

            To Those Interested:

Having had the opportunity to read Introduction to Executive Protection by Dale June, I can state the following.

This book is well thought out and well written. The author does an exemplary job of combining the basics of executive protection along with personal insight. And though not technical in nature, which is not its intended purpose according to its title, it provides a clear and uncluttered look at the responsibilities of an executive protection agent.

It's an excellent starting point for anyone interested in exploring a career in executive protection, especially those who do not have any formal government training.

I believe this book accomplishes its intended purpose with distinction.
