PREPARATION FOR THE CPS EXAM.......2007-05-29
This book is great to prepare for the CPS exam. This particular book is from the previous edition (4th). The new edition (5th) already came out. You can get from Amazon.com too.
Book Description
This self-study manual is part of the Certified Professional Secretary (CPS®) Examination Review Series which provides valuable assistance to anyone preparing for the CPS Examination. The Series focuses on key topics test-takers must know in order to pass the exam. It is the only examination preparation series produced in conjunction with the International Association of Administration Professionals (IAAP).
KEY TOPCS: Content is based on the current CPS Examination Review Guide published by the IAAP. Each chapter contains: An overview; text, in outline form, with examples highlighted in italics; illustrations; review questions in formats similar to those found on the CPS Examination; solutions to review questions--with some explanation of correct answers, where needed, and references to the portion of the outline that explains the answer more fully; term review; glossary at the end of the manual, with references to the chapter where the terms may be found in context. An accompanying Self-study Guide enhances material in the manual. For professionals preparing for the CPS Examination.

Fine Third Edition and Fourth Will Be Better.......1999-08-17
As co-author I have found the MANAGEMENT text for the CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL SECRETARY EXAMINATION REVIEW SERIES, published by Prentice Hall to be helpful for college students and office professionals who are not necessarily seeking CPS certification. The fourth edition is being published now and should be out within a few weeks.
Excellent progress is being made in updating the fourth edition to include management tips related to electronic communication, e-commerce, and other technological developments. Key business and management concepts are covered in a friendly, understandable manner in both editions.
I have used these chapters with my college students, especially those on leadership, conflict management, and organizational behavior. This is a very useful book to have as a supplement but is not designed as a replacement for excellent management and organizational behavior principles texts written by many authors.
Secretaries, students, and administrative assistants who haven't considered seeking the CPS rating might do so. The three-part examination is administered two times a year, November and May, at various sites throughout the country as well as in overseas education centers.
I am thrilled to have worked with Dr. Betty Schroeder, Northern Illinois University on the Management book. Dr. Schroeder is the series editor and Office Systems and Administration, Finance and Business Law, and Management)published by Prentice Hall and endorsed by the International Association for Administrative Professionals, formerly Professional Secretaries International. Dr. Schroeder is a delightful co-author and superb editor.
Many of my college students and associates have sugested that Management be placed in libraries and other public places. The text is an excellent reference to consult for varied management issues.

Customer Reviews:
A wonderful book that will help the reader train himself or herself to research and write a stellar business plan of their own!.......2007-10-10
VOLUME 11. I love this resource. I cannot say enough positive things about it. I am a SCORE (Senior Corps of Retired Executives) volunteer who provides business coaching services via email and in-person. I have recommended on almost every occasion that my "clients" who are starting a business and need to prepare a business plan search out for this volume and the others that follow it at their public library, community college library, or university library.
A business plan is a 25-35 page written document that includes the following ten sections:
1. Business History and Outlook
2. Description of Product or Services
3. Market Examination (target market)
4. Description and analysis of Competition (competitors serving target market)
5. Marketing (various options and a plan)
6. Operations
7. Administration and Management
8. Key Personnel
9. Potential Problems and Solutions to those Problems
10. Financial Information (BS, IS, Stmt of Cash Flows)
Included in this volume are the following sample business plans:
1. Adventure Travel Lodging Company
2. Brewpub
3. Cigar Company
4. Construction Development and Real Estate Firm
5. Construction and Home Rehabilitation Company
6. Daycare Facility
7. Food Distributor (template)
8. Giftware Company
9. Handmade Greeting Card Company
10. Handyman Service
11. Hardware Store (template)
12. Homeless Shelter
13. Interior Design Company
14. Interior Painting Service
15. Internet Loyalty Program
16. Internet Services Portal
17. Massage Therapists
18. Mentally Disabled Care Facility
19. Motorcycle Dealership and Racetrack
20. Online Mortgage Company
21. Pizza Parlor
22. Private Investigator
None of the above plans are 25-35 pages long. And few if any have good Financial Information. But what they do provide the reader is examples of how business plans are supposed to present information. You will no doubt see big holes in the sample plans. It is those holes you need to be aware of so you can fill them in when you prepare your own business plan.
Read the plans as if you were going to use them to start a similar business. Ask yourself what you still need to know after reading each plan that you must have an answer for in order to use the plan as a blueprint for actually running your own business. As you do this for each of the plans you will become expert at analyzing and critiquing business plans. And that is what you need to be able to do well when you write your own business plan. 5 stars!

Awesome - Quick BP's.......2001-10-27
Excellent quick read for getting quick BP's. See how the experts do it. What I really like was the editing. It made disparate business plans flow as if they were written by one man. The editing was excellent, bravo!
