    Book Description

Wired Marketing provides a unique mix of strategic and technical knowledge designed primarily for students on marketing-related courses. It focuses on the Internet as a marketing tool in the context of rapidly changing business and consumer markets, including the emergence of eCommerce on the World Wide Web. Part one of the book deepens the marketing concept, by providing an overall outline of the role and importance of Internet marketing to e-commerce. In particular the first part of the book looks at the technological-driven shift in the marketing paradigm from direct marketing towards interactive marketing on the World Wide Web. Part one also outlines the fundamental Internet based changes in both the consumer and business-to-business markets.

The second part of the book broadens the marketing concept by exploring the move towards new interactive forms of marketing and changing communication processes as a consequence. It proposes, for example, in the chapter on marketing communications an e-based communications mix that illustrates the impact of new technology. This broadening of the marketing concept, by the Internet is extended further through a focus on supply chain management. Here we explore the way the Internet is changing how enterprises interact with their suppliers, partners and customers. It looks at the implications for managing the customer. The music industry is one of a number of examples used.

The final part of the book is intended to provide a marketing and e-commerce "toolkit" for the Internet. Part four will provide useful web-links to marketing sites of importance, offering leading edge marketing information and useful software applications. In particular this section will provide an insight into Advanced Web based marketing technology for the Internet. Finally the book will consider approaches towards strategic Internet marketing planning with a particular focus on flexibility, speed and the customer. The style of the book is to encourage the application of practical knowledge, but it also attempts to offer in-depth understanding of the changing nature of marketing through trading by e-commerce. The main text willl be supplemented with extensive practical case examples and also various web links which illustrate that the Internet is radically altering marketing and e-commerce practices. Supplementary materials for lectures will be provided on a web site.

    Book Description

Modern antitrust law is global antitrust law. Markets are becoming increasingly global, or at least multinational. Mergers between large corporations must typically get approval in both the United States and in the EU, and other nations too. Cartels in one nation affect supply in others, and countries are increasingly entering into treaties with each other about the content or enforcement of competition laws. Thus, businesspeople, lawyers, and lawmakers can no longer content themselves with understanding only the antitrust and competition law of their home country. Modern antitrust law also differs from traditional antitrust law in that it now reflects the dominance of the economic model of analysing antitrust and competition policy. Against this background, this new casebook represents the first comprehensive effort to examine US and EC competition law cases and decisions within a common analytical framework strongly based on economic theory. It is an innovative casebook addressed to all students, not only from the US and Europe, but also from all jurisdictions having competition laws, providing an in-depth analysis of the two major global antitrust regimes in the world, and a summary of the parallel antitrust laws elsewhere in the world. As such it will also serve as a useful reference for practitioners, competition officials, and policy-makers interested in competition law.

5 out of 5 stars I had great success teaching with this book.........2007-04-08

I had great success using the galleys of Global Competition Law & Economics to teach comparative competition/antitrust law at the University of Haifa Law School during the summer of 2006, to both American and Israeli law students.

This textbook is the first and only one on the market that is extremely well suited for use in a comparative competition law or antitrust law class. When I taught comparative antitrust/competition law in Scotland a few years ago I had to put my own material together because there was no comparative textbook on the market suitable for classroom use. It is simply astonishing that, even though knowledge of European competition law has been important for a United States antitrust lawyer for more than a decade - and vice-versa! - until now there was no single volume that bridged these fields comprehensively. But at long last the market has filled this considerable gap - by producing Global Competition Law & Economics.

This is an extraordinarily teachable book that contains everything you might want to present in a comparative competition or antitrust law class. It always contained exactly what I was looking for - the relevant background, and both the similarities and the areas of greatest contrasts between the United States and the European systems. Moreover, it contains so much of each type of material that the instructor gets the pleasure of picking and choosing which of their favorite topics to cover.

Both the law and the economics are extremely clearly and interestingly presented. I used it to teach a class of students who has never before taken a class in antitrust or competition law. For this reason we had to omit much of the book's more sophisticated material. However, I have no doubt that anyone teaching an upper level class for students who already have taken a basic class in United States antitrust law or EU competition law would find this more advanced material extremely useful. Its mix of background material and state-of-the art material should make it similarly valuable for competition/antitrust lawyers who have an international practice.

I believe I speak for comparative competition/antitrust teachers everywhere when I say "thank you". Finally, the comparative book we have been waiting for has arrived. Finally, the comparative competition/antitrust field has a standard textbook to use. And what a wonderful standard it is.

      Book Description

Commercial agency, distribution and franchising agreements form the backbone of cross-border commercial activity, and international lawyers are frequently confronted with issues relating to such agreements. This authoritative, practical reference work describes the law of the European Union relating to commercial agency, distribution and franchising, together with a detailed comparative analysis of the legislation and case law of the 15 Member States, Switzerland and Norway. Each country report follows a similar structure and classification system to facilitate quick reference and comparison between jurisdictions. Since the second edition of this work was published in 1993, the Common Market has become a reality and the Treaties of Maastricht and Amsterdam have had a significant impact on European law, making the appearance of this fully revised and updated third edition extremely timely.

      Book Description

The new edition of this book continues to be one of the leading works on competition law for students, and the ideal companion to the author's Introductory Guide to EC Competition Law and Practice (8th edition, 2004), also published by Hart Publishing. The book has been completely updated to take into account recent developments in EC competition law, including the modernisation effected by Regulation 1/2003, the Merger Regulation and changes to the rules on IP and competition law. As such it remains an invaluable work of reference for law students and practitioners seeking a succinct compilation of cases and other materials, accompanied by the author's penetrating and often critical observations and analysis. The bulk of the text is made up of extracts from Commission Decisions, Opinions of the Advocates General at the ECJ, and judgments of the ECJ and CFI. These are supplemented by extracts from EC legislation, and comments, notes and questions prepared by the author. The text is up to date as of June 2006.

I used this book to study for a postgraduate competition law course at Oxford. The book recommend by the professors was Whish. However Whish is outdated and has a tendency to explain the irrelevant rather than the relevant.
This casebook focuses on the relevant cases and gives the relevant pointers and questions to make it clear. I would recommend to combine this book what the book European Competition Law and Economics by R.J. van den Bergh and P.D. Camesasca or EC Competition Law by Goyder.

          Book Description

In the Caribbean Windward Islands, one in three jobs and half of export earnings depend on bananas. But from the end of 2005, the European Union will give up the last non-tariff measures designed to protect this trade. Looming over the islanders are unemployment, poverty, further emigration, and the almost inevitable switch to growing illegal drugs. Banana Wars tells how the US government, answering the grievances of a single American corporation, forced the World Trade Organization to nullify a European Community commitment to protect small Caribbean banana growers. The international trading system lacks the flexibility needed to give states like the Windward Islands the protection that they need to survive, while powerful supermarket chains insist on ever-lower prices, to the short-term benefit of consumers but the serious detriment of growers. This book calls for new EU arrangements to help the Caribbean banana industry beyond 2005 and for the WTO to give greater consideration to the needs of very small states with vulnerable economies.

Patent law is hard for non-lawyers to understand, and is not made much clearer by reading statutes, in the US, or in the UK. This 722-page, 1996 book explains UK patent law in an understandable way. It corresponds to a US patent law book, "Patent Law & Practice" by H.F Schwartz in that the Cornish book explains UK patent law, complete with citations to UK cases, such that it can be applied by Experts assisting in patent litigation.

CE Marking can be regarded as a product's trade passport for Europe. It is a mandatory European marking for certain product groups to indicate conformity with the essential health and safety requirements set out in the European Directive.

The prime aim of the CE Directive is to ensure that "all industrial products that are placed on the market do not compromise the safety and health of users when properly installed, maintained and used in accordance with their intended purpose. Users and third parties should be provided with a high level of protection and the devices should attain the performance levels claimed by the manufacturer."

This book explains the meaning of CE Marking, its history, how the Directive can affect all manufacturers of industrial products, its current status, its associated quality management requirements, and how manufacturers can easily and cost-effectively meet the requirements for CE Conformance.

Essential information for any manufacturer or distributor wishing to trade in the European Union.
