Book Description
Mercer Mayer's popular Little Critter enjoys a special day in the city with his mother. Little Critter means well, but he gets himself in trouble all along the way. His mother is oh so patient when Critter loses the train tickets, picks up a dinosaur egg in the natural history museum, and misbehaves at lunch. In spite of his difficulties, Little Critter falls asleep happily on the train going home, exhausted from the big outing with his mother.
Customer Reviews:
Sweet.......2007-08-06
Mercer Mayer always captures the sweet moments in life that we over look as adults. This story shares the fun adventure a Mom can have with her child one on one with a special trip out. He also captures the small mishaps that can come out of a little one's eagerness to help and curiosity about the world around them.
very disappointing.......2007-03-02
We have several other critter books that our daughter just loves. This one however was very disappointing. This book has the little critter acting up and mis-behaving. This is very different from our other Mercer Mayer books where misfortune befalls our hero becuase he is a little boy being clumsy or because he is being 'helpful'. Reading a book which encourages the child to run away from his mom in crowded places, ignore rules and break things is not funny - it is just stupid. After two reads, we traded in our copy at the local used book store.
My Mom.......2006-02-12
When I was three or four years old, I saw this book in the window of a book store and asked my mother to buy it for me. Fifteen years later, the book still brings me incredible joy. Beyond the events in the story itself, it represents the connection between a child and his mother; she is analogous to the giving tree in the Shel Silverstein book. She created me, and with that creation, created the incredible world as I am now able to see it through the eyes and mind that she created. Despite any and all of one's faults (losing a train ticket, making a mess in the museum and the fancy restaurant), mother still lives with unconditional love and dedication to the child (smiling off the faults, buying more train tickets, eating a hot dog from a vendor instead of the fancy restaurant). A wonderful book, truly makes one appreciate the world and its female creator.
Love this book still.......2006-01-02
This is not much of a review, but as an arly 20-something I still give accounts of this book to others as being one of my all time favorites. It's a must read.
Just Me and My Mom- Fabulous!.......2005-09-21
This book is cute, just like all the other Little Critter books. We like to find where the frog is on every page!

Love these books.......2007-08-10
My sons bought this for their grandpa for Fathers day. I love all of these books. They are cute, funny, and have a great message!
Just Grandpa and Me.......2006-12-11
I personally, felt this book was a bit repitive with its main point in the story, but it is a fairly good book. It has its rough edges, but everything itself is good for a children's book.
This book is basically about a young Critter going with his grandfather on a day out to the city to go shopping. He ventures the vast unexplored areas while his grandfather tries to keep track of him as he wanders carelessly at times.
Classic and Cute Little Critter Story.......2006-02-05
"Just Grandpa and Me" is a classic "Little Critter" story about Little Critter spending a day with his Grandpa. They travel on a train, buy a suit, go to the movies and more.
This book has simple and fun humor in Little Critter's cute retelling of the story. For example, he says he held Grandpa's hand so he wouldn't get lost, but he did. Luckily, he found him right away. The illustrations have lots of fun detail and perfectly match the story for visual interest.
A fun little story that anyone can find the humor in and enjoy.
Such a sweet story!.......2003-05-30
My 3 year old got this book "for his grandpa" a year ago and we read it regularly. A very simple but sweet story with adorable pictures. A perfect bedtime read.
Just Grandpa and Me.......2002-12-16
This book like all little critter books was fun to read. It was about a grandpa taking his grandson to go get a new suit. They ride on the train, go through revolving doors, get lost from one anouther and go up and escalator. Then they find the right one he trys it on a perfect fit he says. After they go to a Chinese food place and eat with chopsticks. Then they go see a scary movie. They ride the train back and shows his mom the new suit but it is really dirty from all the fun they had. This is a great book for your children to read to there parents. Almost all kids and read it and will enjoy it. This book is written by Mercer Mayer i suggest you read all the books wrote by him.
Book Description
Mercer Mayer's popular Little Critter has a little-bit-scary adventure in this picture-book tale. When he goes to the busy, crowded mall with his mother, he loses track of her. "My mother is lost!" he tells the nearest security guard, bravely trying not to cry. Little Critter is taken to the security office and watches for his mother on the tv screens that are all around. It isn't long before Little Critter's mother rushes to the office to reclaim her son. His mother has been found! This small, suspenseful tale treats an important subject, and its funny, satisfying ending will be reassuring to children.

Just Cute! (And Smart).......2006-03-05
That's how I'd describe this book in the "Little Critter" series, but then again, that's how I'd describe a lot of them.
This book is about Little Critter and his family visiting a shopping mall. There's a "jillion" critters there and Little Critter's Mom encourages him to stay close. But despite his best efforts, Little Critter's Mom gets lots. :D Fortunately, Little Critter knows just what to do and once they've read this book, kids will too.
The power of this book has already been attested to, so there's not really much more I can say about that. This is a story that kids can remember and if they ever get lost, they'll know just what to do.
My review of Just Lost.......2004-09-22
I think the book is very good. I liked reading it. The book gave a lot of information about not getting lost and what to do if you get lost. If you are ever lost in a mall you need to go to an adult and tell them that you are lost or that your mom is lost. I also like the pictures that are in the book. The pictures helped to make the book interesting
Helped my son when he got lost.......2003-02-15
I highly recommend this book! We recently went to a very crowded water park where we got separated from our 4 year old son. We found him, or I should say he found us, about 10 minutes later. He went up to a lifeguard and told them he couldn't find his mommy, then proceeded to give them my name and his name. When we asked him how he knew what to do, he said, it was because of the "Just Lost!" book and what we had talked about if he got lost. This book gives you a great opportunity to discuss a plan with your child if they should, heaven forbid, ever get lost.
Review by a 7-year-old.......2000-05-03
This story is a good one. It is called "Just Lost". It reminded me that I should stay by my mom or dad at the mall. And I learned that I should say "Wait for me" so I won't get lost.
Wonderful.......1998-11-10
I have been reading Mercer Mayer books to my children since they were one year old, and they love everyone of them. Just Lost is now my favourite, because of what took place in the book, actually came true this Spring while vacationing in Florida while we were at a mall. My 6 year old son, who was "just lost", did exactly what Little Critter did in this story. When we finally found him, his actual first words were, "I did just what they said in the Little Critter book Mommy". I was so proud of him, and can't believe that this book would come to his mind at a time like that!

If you practice gentle discipline in your home be advised that the mom in this book threatens a spanking when a child asks for candy in the store.
Great for beginning readers!!.......2002-11-18
Mercer Mayer writes wonderful books for beginning readers. My first grade daughter can read his books with relative easy, which helps her with her confidence. There are enough challenging words to keep her learning. She really enjoyed reading this book and pointing out to me how the sister was misbehaving. Rather than using the story as an excuse to misbehave, we use it as a learning tool. It is a story any parent can relate to!

Just Shopping With Mom Book Review
This story is about three little kids and their mom shopping and they keep asking her for everything. It is by Stan and Jan Berenstain. They can't stop and they keep asking and asking then their mom gets very angry and says to stop. Now the kids get mad and they want to pay for their food and they leave the store. I like the book because it is funny. If you like the Berenstain Bears, you will like it, too!

Not very charming -- and taught my son some bad habits.......2000-08-31
My two-and-a-half-year old son loves the Little Critter books, but his mom and dad aren't nearly so fond of them. The books are fairly short, simply written and cover day-to-day topics (like taking a bath, or sharing with a friend, or in this case, taking a shopping trip with mom) from the young child's perspective, which probably explains why my son enjoys hearing them. But after reading several of these books, my son began mimicking the bad behavior illustrated in them (presumably intended by the author to get the young reader to laugh at and learn from the miscreant). He quickly learned how to whine "I want [fill in the blank]" just like the obnoxious kid sister in this book, having never done it before. Sure, it's probably a phase he would have entered anyway, but the fact that he is quoting, verbatim, bratty dialogue from various Critter books makes me loathe to recommend them to other parents. As an aside, I find the books rather charmless and the illustrations -- bizarre snaggle-toothed characters dressed in 19th-century clothing but depicted in 20th-century America -- bizarre and sometimes unsettling.

It's ok to be mad; young children can relate........2006-01-06
Young children often want many things -- and they always want it now! Even everyday tasks such as a trip to the supermarket can give young children reason to get angry and frustrated... especially when they don't get their way immediately.
The book, "I'm So Mad!" tells the story of a trip to the store, through the eyes of a young child. The child goes through different emotions while picking out items with her mother. Shopping can be a fun experience, or it can make a young child angry and disruptive if they don't get their way. In this story, the little girl cannot buy ice cream when she wants...that made her very mad. It also made her mother mad, but their frustration turned to smiles after the young child accidentally knocks down a pile of oranges. They both share an emotional moment and clean up the mess together.
MyParenTime.com highly recommends this book for young children -- they'll enjoy the descriptive and colorful illustrations, and beginning readers will appreciate the easy-to-read text. This book is part of a new series of picture books called, "Just Being Me," which gives a child's-eye view of a child's everyday challenges, triumphs and experiences. Young children are sure to relate to the child in this story. Parents can use this book to help their children better understand their emotions, and explain how to best deal with angry feelings and not being able to get what they want when they want it. In addition, the story is the perfect length for very young children.

Customer Reviews:
A Real Bargain.......2000-09-12
I love bargains, and I've had pretty good luck bargain hunting in the past, so I wasn't sure I'd learn anything new from this book. Happily, I was wrong! The Bargain Hunter's Handbook starts out with the 12 Secrets of the Bargain-Seeker. They're fairly common sense tips, but it never hurts to have a reminder. And within the 12 Secrets, they give some small examples of how to use the tips. The rest of the book is dedicated to big examples in specific areas, like shopping for cars, homes, and medical care (that was a new one on me), or just plain shopping. One of my favorite parts are the sidebars -- called "The Bargain Hunters Journal." They're quick snappy examples of successful bargain hunting, and easy to find, since they're along the outside edge of the right-hand pages. The examples illustrate how the tips can work for you, and, if you're anything like me, they'll get your mind working overtime on where and how you can try out the Bargain-Seekers Secrets. I consider myself a pretty savvy shopper, but if I've got a high school degree in Bargain Hunting, authors Rob and Terry Adams have Ph.Ds. However, with The Bargain Hunter Handbook in tow, I'm on my way to graduation.. and to the mall.

Book Description
Corruption persists as a challenge to the consolidation of Latin American democracies and to their economic development. Contrary to many expectations, policies to reduce the size of government, such as the privitization of state firms, have not proved a cure against corruption. In some cases, economic liberalization seems only to have worsened the problem.
Combating Corruption in Latin America examines the relationship between democratic and market reforms and corruption, including national strategies for its reduction. Authors from across the region, the United States, and Europe, discuss the nature, methods, and historical antecedents of today's corrupt practices, including issues of institutional design, the role of international actors, and culture.
These chapters raise many important questions. Can corruption in some cases be economically efficient? Does the transition to democracy and free markets increase or reduce opportunities and incentives for corruption? What policy responses are in effect at the local, national, and international levels, and are they likely to be effective? How is a growing business culture across Latin America likely to influence efforts for improved government transparency and efficiency?
Contributors come from the worlds of academia, government, journalism, and international financial institutions, and bring a range of economic and political perspectives to bear on the subject. They are Alberto Ades, Fernando Carrillo-Flórez, Carlos Eduardo Lins Da Silva, Rafael Di Tella, Edmundo Jarquin, Luigi Manzetti, Luca Meldolesi, Luis Moreno Ocampo, Stephen Quick, Susan Rose-Ackerman, Mark L. Schneider, Ibrahim F. I. Shihata, and Laurence Whitehead.
