Book Description
Afuah and Tucci’s Internet Business Models and Strategies: Text and Cases, 2e draws on research to develop and integrate a framework to help students understand factors that surround a firms performance and the central role that business models play in the face of the Internet. In the first part of the text, Afuah and Tucci explore the concepts on which Internet models rest. The second part offers cases of both Internet firms and Brick and Mortar companies that must formulate and execute successful business models and strategies.
Customer Reviews:
How companies survive in rapid technology sectors.......2005-02-07
Professor Afuah reveals how companies can structure successful Internet business models. He describes buying behavior among early adopters, ways to transfer innovations within a company, ways to reduce uncertainty, and methods of achieving a strong competitive position. The book's case studies give concrete examples that readers can use as a foundation for making business decisions. This is an instructive book for entrepreneurs and product managers who aim to launch products in fast-moving technology arenas. (Note: Bryan Richards is co-author of a case study on Microsoft's X-Box Online that appears in "Internet Business Models and Strategies").
Took Mr. Afuah's class at Michigan ...........2003-02-08
The book is (or was) an excellent primer to understanding the fundamental concepts of e-commerce. But while there are some business concepts thrown in (i.e. the 5 C's), they do not expand on those basic understandings of the Internet and its businesses. Anyone who had been following the Internet years via other publications would already possess the necessary knowledge that this book provides. If you don't have a good understanding, then at [$$$], there are cheaper alternatives.
A great boost to this book would have been including a CD containing even one of Mr. Afuah's lectures. Mr. Afuah is a brilliant and knowledgeable man who challenges his students to think beyond just the basics. We were not able to get away with trite responses not backed up with data. Since this is hard to do through a book, an interactive CD could at least be somewhat useful.
internet business model.......2002-11-21
this book really helpful for all students that really interesting with ecommerce. Not really difficult and easy to understand when you reading.Good Words and conceptual. And off course all reference up to date.
Great book for beginners.......2002-11-21
After reading this book, I found this book was very helpfull for me in understanding kinds of Internet Business. Since I don't have "Internet" background in my education, this book is really recommended by me to be your reference book, whether it is for student use or business implementation. Least but not last, it is resourceful, up-to-date, and comprehensive but not too technical also fill with real case studies.
Good Book!!.......2002-11-21
This book contains a lot of things - conceptual and technical - we need to know about internet. Especially about business models and it's strategies. It is up to date and suits for business on internet nowadays. This book is not so difficult to understand, so to know more about business on the internet, this is the right book to read.
Book Description
Based on the best-selling West's Business Law, this text maintains its most popular features and continues to offer flexibility for different teaching philosophies. While focusing on public law issues such as ethics, government regulation, and administrative law, it also provides a good balance of private law topics such as contracts and sales. Selected cases begin with either a "Historical and Social Setting" or a "Company Profile" and address the AACSB's curriculum requirements by focusing on global, political, ethical, social, environmental, technological, and cultural diversity issues.
Customer Reviews:
Somewhat dry reading.......2006-02-25
This book has some interesting case studies, but it somewhat dry reading. I bought it for an MBA class, and it seems more suited to undergraduate study because there is not a lot of direct application for professionals.
Wests Legal Enviornment Of Business.......2004-08-20
I bought the RIGHT edition and then sent me the WRONG ONE!!
Overpriced garbage!.......2002-01-31
This review is pertaining to the 7th edition, hardcover book. This book is printed in very small print, all in one color (blue), on very thin (cheap) paper. How the publisher justifies the ridiculous price is beyond me!
If you need to buy this book for academic purposes, then at least try to find a cheaper used copy--It's not worth the money!

Internet Business Models and Strategies: Text and Cases
ASIN: 0072508345 |
Book Description
Internet Business Models rigorously analyzes the different business models employed by Internet companies. The book examines eight Internet business models: access providers, portals, content providers, retailers, brokers, market makers, networked utility providers, and application service providers. Each chapter describes the value proposition offered by companies that pursue a given model; the factors that drive their revenues, costs, and profits; and the key strategy decisions that confront companies pursuing the model, e.g., whether to pursue aggressive growth strategies; whether to diversify. Supporting each chapter are case studies (23 total) of Internet companies written during 1999/2000 by professors at the Harvard Business School.

Book Description
E-Commerce Management is designed to help the managers of today and tomorrow better direct the E-Commerce process by integrating business models, marketing, and Internet technology. The integration of text and cases helps make this a perfect choice for instructors seeking one primary text for use in both graduate and undergraduate level E-Commerce and E-Marketing courses. Each case study provides readers with an in-depth analysis of well-known companies that have developed into e-successes or e-failures.
Customer Reviews:
A useful text!!.......2005-08-01
My Husband teaches third and fourth year university students, and found this to a valuable resource for an e-commerce management paper. His comments:
This is well written (interesting even!) and informative on business models and relatively current cases, the book avoids getting into technical detail. Excellent for the purpose of getting IT strong students to think about where they fit and how their skills can complement others.
I would suggest that this text be useful for senior IT or Management students alike.
Fantastic book........2004-01-30
I am passionate about E-Commerce. But, I am disappointed with most books on the topic. This is a HUGE exception. This is a great book that captured my imagination and pushed my thinking. This book does a great job explaning the CONCEPTS and IDEAS that drive E-Commerce. I HIGHLY recommend it to anybody whose job involves E-Business or E-Commerce.
Innovative book with in-depth treatment of the subject........2004-01-30
Managing the e-commerce operations of a function effectively is crucial to the long-term success of any company these days. This is one of the rare books that provides an in-depth look at all aspects of e-commerce management. I highly recommend it.
Great book. Highly recommended........2002-12-04
Sandeep was the instructor for our E-commerce MBA class (University of Washington Bothell, Class of 2002), and we had the pleasure of 'revewing' initial drafts of some of the book's chapters. Most e-commerce books have been written by IS professionals and academics, focusing on information architechture and process redesign. A key reason for my preference of this book over other similar books, is the author's big-picture yet detailed focus on business models, maketing and technology (technical overview of the Internet). I suspect the author's background in marketing played an important role in designing this book with this three-pronged, interdisciplinary approach.

Interesting Asian cases but text doesn't resonate.......2003-11-30
As a collection of text and cases, this book is a hotchpotch read. Important subjects are discussed in vague terms with timeworn buzzwords tossed into the mix. Further, it is not firmly established what is meant to be instructional about some of the cases vis-a-vis the chapter contents. One thing I appreciate about Global e-commerce is the use of Asian cases which offer the reader a global perspective. It's good to hear of developments that don't have much coverage in the US, but I only wish the chapters shared this focus.
Good Global Case Studies!.......2003-01-11
It is difficult to find a good textbook for Global E-Commerce course. Ninety percent of the E-commerce books talk about [website],[website],[website] but nothing about companies outside of USA. Everyone treats E-commerce as American business only. This textbook, however, gives good in-depth case studies on E-commerce success stories in Hong Kong, Japan, and UK. It would be better to include more European and South American E-commerce successful war stories. The reader still needs to do his/her own research with Harvard Business Review and Cranfield University cases to gain more info. As a professor, this book allows me to add many of my own research and experience. I am using it in my course Spring 2003 semester.

Book Description
This book examines the manner in which successful firms develop, transfer, protect, and capture value from technological innovation. In essence, it is about "knowledge management", which lies at the foundation of firm level competitive advantage in today's global economy. The essays contain some of the fundamental contributions to the field of knowledge management by one of its best-known thinkers; they also constitute an immensely practical guide for those managers who wish to look below the surface of what is going on in Silicon Valley and elsewhere.

Book Description
This book is the first to provide a comparative review of agrarian land policy and regulation with 'western' developed economies. Twelve chapters cover specific countries: USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, UK, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy and Norway. There is also a chapter providing an overview of relevant European Community law and a concluding chapter comparing issues raised in the country-specific chapters. The book provides a unique overview of the subject, and while not intended as a comprehensive guide to legal practice, is a unique reference for academics and practitioners concerned with agrarian law. It will also provide an accessible introduction to the subject for all those who may not be legally trained, but who are concerned with land use, agricultural policy and rural planning.

Book Description
Environmental Management: Issues and Solutions has grown from a series of seminars on environmental management organized by the UNEP Environmental Education and Training Unit with input from some 25 governments of developing countries. This volume is a compilation of presentations made at these seminars by over 50 specialist authors from all over the world, and by participants who are executives and key cadres in ministries or organizations from a wide range of developing countries concerned with the environment. Looking at the foundations and policies of sustainable development, the book describes the principles and processes of ecosystems and the basic environmental management tools, including funding possibilities, that are required for environmental management, particularly in developing countries. Thus, covering the basic concepts and principles, together with the tools necessary for such management, a wide range of issues of environmental concern are discussed, with an eye on how to operate a sustainable development policy. This resource book will therefore be of interest to all those whose profession it is to plan and manage the environment, and to achieve sustainability in development. Michael Atchia is the Chief of the Environmental Education and Training Unit at UNEP, and Shawna Tropp is a consultant to UNEP in Nairobi.
