Partners In Prosperity: The Changing Geography Of The Transatlantic Economy (Center for Transatlantic Relations)
Daniel S. Hamilton , and Joseph P. Quinlan Manufacturer: Brookings Institution Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback ASIN: 0975332554 |
Book Description
One of the most dangerous deficits facing transatlantic relations today is not in trade, payments, or military capabilities. It is a deficit in understanding the vital stake Americans and Europeans have developed in the health of their economic relationship. Globalization is happening faster and reaching deeper between Europe and America than between any other two continents. The transatlantic economy generates roughly $3.5 trillion in total commercial sales a year and employs over 12 million workers in mutually "insourced" jobs. This book maps the increasingly dense web of investment, trade, and jobs that connects Europe's regions to America's states. It traces the impact of NAFTA and EU enlargement on transatlantic economic flows. It tracks intercontinental "connectivity" in the new knowledge economy, and it sets forth areas in which Europe and America continue to be global pathfinders.
In the context of today's debates about globalization and transatlantic drift, this book offers some unanticipated and counterintuitive connections that have important policy implications.

"Empire" by Integration: The United States and European Integration, 1945-1997
Geir Lundestad Manufacturer: Oxford University Press, USA ProductGroup: Book Binding: Paperback Similar Items:
ASIN: 019878211X |
Book Description
"Empire" by Integration is the first comprehensive survey of the American policy towards European integration from 1945 to the present day. Geir Lundestad argues that, unlike other Great Powers, the United States strongly supported the integration of the most important area under its influence: Western Europe. This integration was, however, to take place within an American-dominated Atlantic framework. In the provocative words of the author this was a policy of "empire" by integration. Professor Lundestad takes a clear, chronological approach to the subject, from the beginnings of European integration after the Second World War, the challenge to American policy on European integration by President Charles de Gaulle, and the modified support for European integration in the Nixon-Kissinger years through to the present revived support for European integration under the Clinton administration. "Empire" by Integration provides a succinct, provocative, and highly readable account of this crucial aspect of American-Western European relations. It will be an ideal textbook for use on courses including International Relations, US Modern History, and European Integration.Customer Reviews:
Ambivalence.......2003-11-26
However, the book raises important points about the history of American policy towards Europe since World War II. Particulary important in this time of heightened anti-American sentiment is the fact that after WWII the Europeans actually wanted the U.S. to remain in their countries militarily, as only the Americans were in a position to provide security against the Soviets and a possibly aggressive Germany.
I would only recommend this book for those seriously interested in foreign policy. It is not for those with a passing fancy in politics.

The United States and the Nuclear Dimension of European Integration
Gunnar Skogmar Manufacturer: Palgrave Macmillan ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1403938997 Release Date: 2004-11-04 |
Book Description
The US was a dominant actor in the European integration game in the 1950s, although not always formally present at the negotiation table. The Americans promoted integration based on Franco-German reconciliation and sought to prevent the emergence of nationally controlled nuclear weapons in Germany and France and developments toward an independent European "Third Force". Based on material from American, British, French and German archives the book covers the negotiations about the European Defence Community, the Western European Union and Euratom/the Common Market.

Citizens of the World: London Merchants and the Integration of the British Atlantic Community, 17351785
David Hancock Manufacturer: Cambridge University Press ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover Similar Items:
ASIN: 0521474302 |
Book Description
Citizens of the World examines the business and social strategies of the men who developed the British empire in the eighteenth century. This book focuses on twenty-three London merchants who traded with America in an age of imperial expansion. These "associates" started their careers as marginal people, sought and took advantage of opportunities around the world, and approached their business and social lives with the improving ideals of the practical Enlightenment. This activity is placed in the context of the developing institutions of Britain's colonies in America and the social world of polite and industrious men and women at home.Customer Reviews:

Domestic Structures and International Trade: The Unfair Trade Instruments of the United States and the European Union (Studies in European Law and Integration)
Candido Tomas Garcia Molyneux , and Candido Tomas Garcia Molyneux Manufacturer: Hart Publishing (UK) ProductGroup: Book Binding: Hardcover ASIN: 1841131326 |
Book Description
This book places international trade law within an economic, political and sociological context, contending that globalisation is characterised by both homogeneity and diversity. The book focuses on the US and the EC, analysing different institutional and substantive aspects of unfair trade instruments, such as anti-dumping and countervailing measures and market access instruments. The book considers political action prescribed by formal constitutions in a wider socio-economic context, rejecting the a-historical and structurally blind normative idea of free trade.
